Sorry for the delayed response! I'm pregnant and over on the Babyfit boards these days!
Personally, I would opt for the practice 30 minute run. I think it will make you feel more mentally prepared. Then hop back on the program after your race.
As for eating, that's a tough one. What a late race! I would plan on eating a good breakfast and then grazing all day if it we me. Don't want to be bogged down by anything too heavy.
