I also miss a few things that I donated.
After a while I forget about those things and am grateful for my organized way of life.

I need to due clutter. We moved up to ak 2 years ago, and i still have things in boxes. Was thinking i was about ready to do it, then i got audited for 2011, and found that some obscure documents i needed, i had literally just gotten rid of (vehicle registration from that year, insurance plan explanation). Now I'm scared to get rid of a bunch of the papers...

Way to go ladies. I too have had a declutter fairly recently and it does feel good. My only problem is that very soon after getting rid of a whole lot of stuff I think I will never need again - I want it. Guess I am a born hoarder by nature. The garage will testify to that. At least the house is much less cluttered than it was.

Have a happy and additcion free day, whatever the addictions are. emoticon

Getting rid of clutter is so freeing.
When I moved back into my condo I purged!
I feel so free now and have plenty of room to enjoy.

I'm dealing with a lot of clutter this month. School has calmed down a bit so now it's time to dig into the house.

Veg - Way to go, you sure were motivated.
That is a great list of motivation and an inspiration on getting up and doing things.

I am so grateful to be sober and that I no longer need to drink to cope with my emotional problems. So many anonymous programmes now to help with all sorts of addictions and other life challenges.

Thank God for all 12 step programmes and above all sobriety.

Good to see you Cetanistawi. It is great to see this chat thread being used again.

Sharing with one another in whatever way is helpful is a blessing in Spark people too. Just to know we are not alone and that others understand.

Went to an awesome meeting this morning.
It really motivated me to accomplish something today.
It worked.
Meals are made for the week.
Outside plant trimming done.
Kitchen cleaned.
Garbage emptied.
Purged household papers.
Remained grateful and am planning to go to another meeting tonite.

My brother is deployed right now, though at the moment he's still training stateside and planning to see family this weekend. My mom's on the east coast and my in-laws didn't set plans, so we're just celebrating with our kids today.

Thank you! I am not sure what I weighed then, I may be around 5 pounds up but I think I actually look a little better now. (edit: nope, just 1 pound up.)

Getting into the swing of summer semester, just taking 2 classes but they are both on campus and have labs so that's a lot of driving back and forth.

I think my grad school app is about ready to go. I was telling my husband I don't know if I can fix the essay anymore until it starts coming back around from the other side.

Hey Y'all!!!! Been thinking about y'all off and on…wondering how everyone's doing. Life has been hectic lately! (ck out blog--I think it covers everything-ish). 15 hrs overtime this week. Next week will be some relief!. I'll pop back in when I can. I'm working on simplifying and getting rid of some of the gazillion irons I've got in the fire….

Well, I took 4 practice exams from past years that the instructor linked me to. I was feeling a lot better about it by exam time. I won't know till I know, though. Stupid patience. ;) My other grades were good. I gotta get thinking about applying to grad school. I'm kind of anxious about contacting a former boss about a letter of reference.

I'm so sorry Tricia. I have testified in court, and it shouldn't be stressful but it is. Maybe it's the setting with all eyes on you. It looks so easy on TV, but real life never seems to work out like TV.

Hi girls, just popped in to see if anything was happening here. I have had no notifications from this team. It seems I have lost it for some of them.

I am sorry to hear that Tricia, it must be upsetting, especially when you thought you were doing well. I am hoping it is something you can get help with from the tutor.

I have never had to testify - do not think it is something I would enjoy.

I am getting all the autumn planting done for winter flowering. Cant wait to see all the blossoms ahead. Just love seeing all the little seedlings sprouting.

I got 61% on an inferential statistics exam this week. The part that really worries me is I felt I was doing well. My numbers were mostly right, but I reversed at least one logical operator (or otherwise misinterpreted the problem) practically everywhere it was possible to do so.

I testified in court that day (never done this before) so that was stressful. But it's scary that I didn't know how much it was affecting me.

I hope you're still having success with the flare-ups, Jen.

This semester of 4 classes is nearly over, and hopefully I will have more time for daily sparking. Though if things go the way I want them to, I'll be at least this busy starting summer of 2015. But that's a ways off.

Hi, all.

Just thought I'd peek in and say "hello". I'm still looking for work, but I am now signed up with three temp agencies. The way the one with whom I interviewed this morning was talking, I think they might put me to work soon. Unemployment has not kicked in yet. I think that will be in May. I'm still waiting for my last paycheck, which will be a partial, and then my vacation pay, and THEN I think unemployment will kick in. If all goes well, though, I may be back working before that happens. Glad to have it as a safety net, though.

My state tax refund came in, but that may get eaten up by bills. If it does not, I'll put some into savings.

Four months or so into unemployment, I have to say that, although I am staying busy and productive, it does not feel good. I don't feel good about myself. I also know that the longer I am out of work, the harder it will be to get a job. Employers with permanent jobs are not responding to my resumes at all. It's all been recruiters and agencies.

My mother is having a good bit of trouble. She still is independent and lives alone, but right now, she is staying with my sister. She has had CT scans of her head and neck, and the ENT saw something, so she's been referred to, of all things, an oncologist. My sister and I were a bit shocked, but we are all hoping for a good outcome. She also will be seeing a neurologist, we think. The issue is that she has balance problems and is slurring her words so badly that sometimes, you can't understand her. So a bit tense right now. I'm dealing with it OK, but I'm worried.

I performed for my second time (stand up comedy) on April 3. It went pretty well, but I was nervous, so I rushed my set. I got consistent laughs, though, and the host has invited me back. It's a venue I like. They are very professional. People are not allowed to act like jerks. I will probably go back.

D is having headaches almost every day, but he finally got a diagnosis. They are migraines. He is on medication for them, and it helps, but I still am concerned that he's having them so often. It's the weather. We finally are having Spring weather, but it's still up and down a lot. As for myself, my health is OK. The flare ups are greatly reduced. I don't think what I have is fibro. I think it's vitamin D deficiency. My doctor put me on vitamin D, and when I take that and the B12 consistently, I don't have pain, and my energy stays pretty consistent.

I am still struggling with depression, and even NOW, I catch myself slipping back into my codependent behaviors and patterns. It's crazy! When I know I'm getting caught up in that, I go to my Beattie material. I have a book of daily meditation. It really helps.

I hope you all are well!
Jen M.

Hi, Nell.

You may already know this, but you can get moisture beads/moisture packs to put in with his hearing aids. My boyfriend is deaf. He has gone from using hearing aids to having bilateral cochlear implants, and he uses a dry pack. Hope that helps.

Hubby's hearing aids seem to have survived. We got the ones with the recharger, which provides a little heat. I guess that heat was enough to dry them out. We'll see.

Hi team,
Life is good. Sobriety is allowing me to take care of business with my husband's family in the aftermath of my father-in-law's passing with some grace and propriety. Tomorrow is another day where discretion on my part will be vital, as will restraint of tongue.

Wispy, I'm glad you are having great fall weather and that you are doing well with your computer. It is challenging for us "more mature" folks to keep current with today's technology.

Nell, I'm sorry that hubby drowned his hearing aide. Did it survive after being dried out? And congratulations on making it through another meeting.

Have a great weekend team. I'm planning to enjoy despite the challenge tomorrow. Woo Hoo!!!!

The condo board meeting wasn't too bad, just long.

My hubby wore his hearing aids into the shower and dropped one on the shower floor. Very wet.

Happy Thursday Team,
Trisha I'm glad you took a break from studying to check in. You are one busy lady. So much on your plate.
I'm babysitting my grand babies today (every Tues. and Thurs.). The 9 month old is down for a nap and the 3 year old is following soon. So I'm checking my computer and Sparking quickly.

Hope everyone is feeling healthy and enjoying spring or fall depending where you are.
Hug,
Leslie

Hope everyone is doing well. Just taking a little spark break this morning. I've been studying my buns off this term. I had thought about taking 3 classes this summer but I feel pretty good saying I'll just do the 2, which have weekly labs. I took the GRE last week and submitted a paper to the school science symposium, but that means I won't have to write it (well, not as much of it) for a class next week. I guess before things got so busy we had some scary medical stuff going on. Fortunately, I forget/adapt easily.

Tricia hope this week turns out better for you.

I bit my tongue rather badly and haven't been able to talk or chew for a week.
Its beginning to come right. I will be happy to back on solids again.

Hi there everyone

Great going on Day 8 Jazziy. So pleased you are in AA and have a sponsor.

Step 4 was a process for me. I did not know faults I had really - I kind of thought I was a pretty good person and other people were at fault for the way they treated me.
Under that I discovered once I began to take a deeper look that I blamed everyone for everything - they call it self-justification. :o)

Happy to say I personally had to do the 4th step many times and it got easier as time went on and I became more honest with myself.

True, for a while I asked myself why I was still here? What was my purpose. Then for some reason began to wake up and seeing I had made it another night and saw the sunrise I began thanking God for another day and ask what his plan for me this day was. Even if its writing another chapter in a book I am writing, or another blog on here or my personal blog, I ask that what I have to offer will help someone else at some point.

I don't know what going thru step 4 will uncover but I am hoping it uncovers something wonderful. Sorry to hear that your new sponseree tried to end it, I pray she will continue to get better.

Congratulations on 8 days, one day at a time, Jazzy. In my experience trusting myself and trusting my gut came as a result of working the steps; taking right action, and trusting God. The more honest I become, the more I trust God, the more confident I am that my life is on the right track, day by day.
In 8 days I will have 12 years of sobriety. But, the years are only minutes that turned into hours, that turned into days, and weeks, and months and years. I still wake up, pray, meditate and know that today is the only day I have. I still count my days........today I have 4,375 days. Each one is a blessing. God bless you on your journey.

Leslie how long have you been sober? Today is day 8 I believe. The one thing I am trying to get my arms around is Trust. Not so much in others as much as with myself.

I'm glad you found a new sponsor!!! Each step is so vital to build a strong foundation.

I just took on a new sponsee this afternoon. She has 5 years of sobriety but tried to commit suicide a month ago. Her former sponsor let her go. We will start the steps over again and start from the beginning. Each step plays an important part in healthy recovery.

Good luck to you, Jazzy.

Tricia I hope you can find answers to your stressful situations.

Yes I have found a sponsor, we are on step 4, since steps 1-3 were fairly easy.. The forth step is the hardest.

I've been having a lot of interpersonal stress lately, mostly with my spouse but it involves the kids too. Need to remember one day at a time.

In my codependency I worked so hard at seeming like normal, or at least what I could gather it meant to be normal.

I've been kind of ill for close to a week now. Very strange. Very low appetite. Probably going to a doctor Thursday. The symptoms have diminished a lot, but still there. I've had stabbing pain with a truly empty stomach (like at 4 a.m.) so I don't go without food but eating very bland, simple things.

Nell you cant see the attraction of getting up before the brake of dawn to go to a lake. Grab a worm from a container of dirt and stick it to a hook, that oftentimes gets you if your not careful, just to see a rod react when something ( namely a fish) who is minding his own business is tricked to thinking that wiggly piece of worm is safe to eat? I can't understand that, hehe

Thanks for the welcome back

Welcome back Jazzy. Good luck with your books and your recovery work. I agree that the twelve step program and the people in it provide us with the structure to recover and the people who really understand our addiction. There is a life beyond the bondage of self and I am grateful to have that daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition and my right actions.

I have never understood codependence, and I have to remember as I go out in the world as a recovering alcoholic, that addictions are totally opaque to those who don't have them. That's the wonder of all of the 12 Step programs. You can get help from those who really do understand.

I also don't understand the attraction of fishing, but people do that, too, and boy can they talk when they find each other!

Thank you. This is the chance of a lifetime, as I work to create a series of stories of a lifetime- my lifetime. So far there are two, each possessing parts of my addictions I need to control. Not really sure how many will emerge as I write, but I'm hoping the last story is my autobio which I have already written. The first story deals with struggles with disabilities and my wheel chair, the second is my need for approval so much I work to be what others want just to be liked.... I am reading how to create characters so the story is believable. The third story is about child abuse, physical, mental and sexual.

Hi Jazzy and welcome back.

Desperation sure was my motive to get my life on track. Wishing you all the best with your writing.

I sure used to share in your addiction. Melody Beattie - Co-dependent No More was an eye opener for me and I also joined a 12 step programme called CODA. Co-dependents Anonymous.

Hey all, I have been absent for a long while. It seems you only seek out a support group when you need one. I guess I need one now. I am a writer and find myself embarking on a series of short stories called " Strength from within". ( I may add "turning struggles into strengths" as a subtitle) however. The second story in this short collection ( all mostly fictional with a dash of my reality sprinkled in) is about a woman who is struggling with anger issues. That's when I began looking for the 12 steps and how to use them not only for the story but in my life. My addiction that tops them all is approval addiction.

Funny way of coming back and saying hi, but I didn't know any other way to say hi and briefly say what I've been up too.

The first story for the record if anyone is interested is called Charlee and is about a man who finds himself in a wheel chair now seeing the world from their eyes and works to solve the issues they often are challenged with.

Hope all are safe and warm.

P.s this is not a book promoting post, just letting you know why I've been absent

I haven't been able to do my taxes, because I'm still at my mom's. We had a big snow storm Wednesday. Now, we are waiting for a neighbor to dig us out.

I will be here for a THIRD week, because Mom's doctor sprang on us Tuesday the fact that her other eye (cataract surgery) is to be done NEXT Tuesday. I'm going home Sunday, though, and coming back Monday afternoon/evening. This time, D will come back with me. I recently had a small windfall, so we're paying a friend to watch the cats next week. It will be nice. I miss D and my cats!

I'm the only one in the family who is unemployed and doesn't have kids, so I have time to be here. It's fine.

Tricia, I need to prepare my taxes, too. It only takes one miserable hour, but I keep finding ways to put it off. Uncle Sam's deadline may be April 15, but my CPA wants them by Feb 20.

Glad you're finding an upside to the confinement, Jen. And better to prepare for something that doesn't happen, then not prepare and wish you had. Within reason.

I got my taxes done! I wanted to be done because my kid is applying to colleges. I waited until June last year.

I'm going to be at Mom's for another week. Her follow up got pushed back due to weather last week and is now supposed to happen on Tuesday. The other thing is we keep being told there's going to be a massive snow storm, but it keeps not hitting, so I don't want her to end up snowed in here alone. I'm planning to be here until NEXT Sunday.

D did not make it out to visit, because he has the flu. I'm disappointed. I really miss him. I also miss my cats and being in my own house. Mom and I are doing OK, though. Last night, I reunited with a friend from junior high! It was fun. She lives close to my mom, so we'll see each other again, I'm sure. :)

I hope everyone is doing well!

Love going out to you and your Mom Jen and hope she has a speedy recovery. I m sure she will be delighted to have you with her.

I am hoping you get some kind of government support while you are unemployed and that the temping works out well.

Stress sure does cause a lot of exhaustion when we have these health issues.

Enjoy the Olympics, how lovely that it makes you feel close to your Dad Tricia.

Thanks, everyone. Leslie, I'm doing it, because it's required by the state of Maryland (I signed up for unemployment right away, but it will not kick in until mid-late April. I'm still required to job search, though.) I job search about three days a week, and I track it in a spreadsheet. I'm being very picky.

I've signed up with several temp agencies, but only two have responded to me so far. I hope to start taking on short assignments in March.

I'm at my mom's this week, because she had cataract surgery today. I'll be here until Sunday, as she can't drive for I don't know how long. She has as follow up with her doctor tomorrow, and we'll know more then. I'm kind of taking this as a mini-vacation. My boyfriend (D) is at home taking care of the cats. He has an appointment back home tomorrow, and we can't afford to pay our friend to pet sit (I pay her the same as I'd pay a professional, unless we're just gone overnight. She lives right up the road from us and loves cats.) He'll come back on Saturday, barring any more snow.

I have some sewing projects with me, so I'm going to settle in and work on that this evening.

I think I'm losing weight, but not much. Exercise is a challenge for me, because I've been flaring a lot--mostly with fatigue, not pain--since the first of the year. There are aerobics classes Tuesday and Thursday nights not far from home, though. I'm going to try and drop in on them at least a couple of times a month. Next Thursday, I might--MIGHT--be performing for the 2nd time! :) (Stand up comedy.)

Trying to keep busy.

Hi, all.

Just a quick note to say that I'm doing OK. I'm having issues with the fibro, because of our yo-yo weather here in the DC area. I'm in a lot of pain, and I'm tired.

I'm also dealing with the emotions around being unemployed. I've interviewed with a temp agency, though. I told them I will be available March 3 and that I'm NOT looking for permanent work right now. After what I've been through, I don't want to commit to anything for a while. I like the freedom of temping.

More later. I'm trying to get myself tired enough to go to bed. I'm at my mom's, and I don't sleep well when I'm here. :(

It really made me think specificially about how grateful I am that I no longer have to deal with stuff that I did as a result of my addiction like waking up and wondering what I might have said or done the night before to upset friends or family.

I can remember one specific day when no one was talking to me and I had no idea of what I might have done at the party on the preceding night. They were all disgusted and I had no knowledge of what had happened. The last thing I remembered was three of us hiding a bottle of spirits in the washing machine so we would have our own special stash. At the time it seemed hilarious and there were three of us involved in this plan.

I remember nothing after that but what ever happened subsequently everyone there was absolutely disgusted with me and could not even meet my eyes. Either they did no believe I could not remember or were not willing to actually tell me what I had done.

I can still remember the shame and horror I felt and saying how sorry I was with absolutly no knowledge of what I was apologising for.

For Martin Luther King Jr. Day I like to think of how the world is completely different from how it used to be, and that he was a pioneer that helped create that. I wish we'd done something more specific to memorialize that with the kids. I have a book signed by his daughter I should dig out, if I can, and show them.

Three of my grandparents died very young and both my parents died young as well. My mother at 60 and my father at 62. I also have a very short and broken life line.

Even if I were to die to day at 74 I consider my life is a long one and every day is a gift really. With my drinking and other emotional stuff it is amazing I have made it to this age in the state of health that I currently enjoy.

Have a good weekend ladies. It is Saturday early afternoon here.

My prayers are with you, Nell. My husband honestly doesn't expect to be around at 75 because he had a grandparent on each side that died fairly young, 50's and 60's. Of the others one passed in the 70's and one made it to mid 80's. All my grandparents saw their 90's. I don't even plan to retire by 75! (My husband and I are the same age). While I'm frustrated that he doesn't take care of himself, that was me until a couple years ago.

Not a problem, Wispy. From the outside looking in he DOES seem hard to handle. Only those of us who know him well can see what is really going on.

Happy Sunday Team,
Thank you Nell for being honest about your husband's choices. It is a stark reminder to us all to utilize the tools we learned when we got sober so that denial does not seep into other areas of our lives. I will keep your husband and you in my prayers. Your experience, strength, and hope give me the courage and faith to stay teachable. Thank you!

Wispy, thank you for being a great example of how the program works. When can do a spot check inventory and make any amends we deem necessary, our lives can be open to new possibilities. You are a loving and kind role model. Thank you!

Sending hugs to you all!

That is so sad Nell. I am sorry that both your hubby and yourself have such a difficult road to hoe. Loving thoughts and prayers going out to you both.
Please forgive me, my remark was thoughtless. I intended no disrespect.

It isn't that my hubby is hard to handle, he isn't well. After 3 big strokes and a million little ones, he has become cranky and slow. The MRI doesn't lie. We have an appointment with his neurologist on Monday to see what the latest MRI means. At one time I would have been irritated at having to work around him, but now I am just sad. He is only 76. He refused to deal with his diabetes these last 15 years and now this is the price. It's not that it wasn't all explained to him, it was. My son is a registered dietician and went through the whole thing with him many times. The cardiologist and the neurologist and the endocrinologist explained after each of the big strokes, but his denial is such that he doesn't believe it relates to him. He is still the only person who doesn't see his decline. Even 36 years of sobriety after years of denial of alcoholism hasn't dented his ability to deny reality.

Hi there girls. Again Leslie I take my hat off to you my friend. All those years with one man is just wonderful.

Tricia you sure do have a lot on your plate. Good thinking to wait until you have a built in baby sitter. :) Keep up the great work you are doing on life in general and your maintenance.
That is awesome.

Nell, sounds like DH is not so easy to handle as some men. I am sorry you have to kind of work round him and keep silence in the house. That cannot be easy.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and contented weekend. It is a mild and overcast Sunday morning here and very quiet except for the birds who are serenading me with their melodies.

What a yucky day out, pouring rain. Which is better than snow or ice, but still. Usually my hubby goes to an AA men's breakfast on Saturday mornings so I can run the vacuum (he doesn't like me to make noise when he is in the house) but he decided at the last minute to go back to bed. So there goes at least that part of the cleaning. I can't call anyone in case they end up calling me back; he doesn't like the phone to ring if he is sleeping, even in the middle of the day. I'm heading down to Woodbridge (45 minute drive) to meet up with some Sparkfriends this afternoon, then get back in time for the first game and to put dinner on. These days not drinking is the easiest part of my life.

Congrats Leslie and Nell!

My toddler still has a runny nose, though really it was understanding that I'd pay $800 over the course of the semester that persuaded me to wait on those daytime classes until summer, when my teen can watch him. I'll have classes on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, but it was 3 nights a week last term so hopefully we'll all adapt.

Thanks Wispy! We are still a work in progress after all these years, but I wouldn't have it any other way............it's like any journey, you are never "done" or "there". So we are grateful for each other and know who we are now. 44 years ago when we met we were still teenagers and thought we knew it all. Yeesh!

I hope everyone is having a good week and ready for a great weekend.

Wow, Nell. Happy Anniversary to you and your husband! Congratulations!

It's my wedding anniversary too, today!!! Aurlie just clued me into the coincidence!
My husband and I have been married for 42 years. We chose a healthy celebration this year. Hubby is getting healthy too. Woo Hoo. We took our bikes to our local Regional Park and rode around the lakes and had a sub sandwich. The weather is in the mid 70's here and it was a gorgeous day.

Have a great rest of your week team!!!
Sending Hugs!
