I'm so sorry about your mother. That is pretty recent still, isn't it?

That is a great acronym for F.E.A.R.

Maybe you can try to think of this as the time you DON'T KNOW what the lumps are? In the future you will know one way or the other, but now you don't. If it's good news, you won't have made yourself miserable for nothing, and if it's bad news, you will have had these days to enjoy in blissful ignorance.
Easy for me to say, right?
God bless you. Be well.

Dyanne, God bless you and keep you. You are doing the right thing to try not to get ahead of what you know. The worst case is usually NOT what happens.

90% of lumps and most biopsies are non-cancerous. My MIL had a biopsy recently. It was negative.

Keep taking extra care of yourself, use your supporters, your tools and place yourself in the loving care of God. ODAAT.

I'm practicing acceptance and staying in the moment. I am working to avoid fear and fear based thinking.

Dr found 3 masses in left breast and 2 in the right. I am waiting for an ultrasound and mammogram to be scheduled for diagnosis. Then possibly a biopsy.

I am scared. But my faith in God and His plan is greater. I have told my children and my sponsor. But no one else. My fiance was present when they told me. He is being so supportive and loving.

You have to sniff out joy, keep your nose to the joy-trail.
--Buffy Sainte-Marie

Newcomer

I heard an old-timer say, "You can be right, or you can be happy." What does that mean? When something is wrong, am I supposed to deny what I can see with my own eyes?

Sponsor

This program saying is not meant to encourage stupidity or moral laziness. It's an affectionate way of suggesting that when we obsess about our own point of view or insist on having our own way, we may have our priorities mixed up. It suggests that we be open-minded and tolerant of people with whom we may disagree. It reminds us that self-will is not the path to serenity.

It also suggests that we have a choice about where to focus our mental energies. There is nothing wrong with having our own particular point of view and confidently and persuasively expressing it that's part of our self-esteem. But we don't have to win arguments and attempt to force people and situations to conform to our own ideas. We can detach from the argument, instead of reacting. We can experience the peace that comes from letting go, as we cultivate mental relaxation and serenity as tools of our recovery.

Today, I don't have to be right. I'm happy, as I live and let live.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Dyanne,
That is such devastatingly sad news. I'm so sorry for all of your family. It is a tragic loss and you are so right, mental illness is very real!!!

My oldest step grandson committed suicide on Sunday. He was 23. I suspect he was battling substance abuse. He also had depression issues. My daughter is devastated.

I'm sad.

He was a talented actor and was in the Broadway play - Les Misrables for a short time, and had a small role in the most recent Star Trek Movie. His goal was to become an actor.

Mental illness is very real.

So live that you wouldn't be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
--Will Rogers

It is a challenge to live in the present, but Step Ten gives us a way to do just that. It is a maintenance step, a way to stay true to ourselves. As we continue to take inventory of our attitudes and behavior, we find ourselves growing in self-acceptance and self-love. In the past, the last thing we wanted to do was be honest. Now, possessing serenity and faith, we can see that our shortcomings are only that: shortcomings. They are part of who we are, and every part of ourselves is important.

Taking a personal inventory is not a way to sit in judgment of ourselves. Rather, it enables us to examine our behavior with honesty and gentleness. It is an affirmation that growth is a process; we do it throughout our lives. Taking time for a personal inventory is a way to say that our needs are important, our good points are important, and our character defects are important. We are whole people, lovable just as we are.

I will take time for an inventory today. I will admit my wrongs, give myself credit for my accomplishments, and give the day to God with gratitude.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Laughter, by definition, is healthy.
--Doris Lessing

A hearty laugh can warm a cold room and make our spirits soar. But many of us are afraid to laugh, especially when we make mistakes. We think we're supposed to be perfect, and we don't allow ourselves to make mistakes. However, we're not a mold punched out by a machine. We're human beings, with all our wonderful flaws. It is those flaws that make our lives interesting and surprising. Who knows when we might accidentally bump into a chair or catch our sweater on a doorknob? We needn't feel self-conscious, it happens to many of us.

The ability to laugh at ourselves is a gift from God. All we need to do is grab it and use it. Then we will see how healthy and powerful laughter can be.

Serenity

Your body is tense. Your face is somber and serious, ready to deliver the news. You may be slightly breathless. There's a crisis. It may be real. Or it may be self-created.

Like an audience in a sports arena, we watch the events of life or even The Weather Channel drumming up reactive responses. Fear. Sometimes panic. Oh my God, what if.

I called my daughter in this frame of mind one morning, ready to report on the latest current event in my life. I barely had three words out of my mouth when she interrupted me. "You're talking in your drama-addiction tone."

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." I've probably said this prayer out loud a thousand times, and silently twice that amount. It's called the Serenity Prayer, not the Courage Prayer, not the Wisdom Prayer. That is because, no matter what we're doing, before we receive courage or wisdom, serenity needs to come first.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

We begin to pray only for God’s will for us. That way, we get only what we are capable of handling.”

Basic Text, p. 49

––––=––––

Imagine what might happen if God gave us everything we wanted. A fabulous new car, straight As, a triple salary raise—all ours without effort, just for the asking.

Now imagine the problems that come along with unearned riches, new luxury cars, and unmerited scholastic recognition. What would we do with a huge salary raise that had been granted for no reason? How would we handle our new financial responsibilities? And how would we live up to that raise? Could we ever make it appear that we deserve such pay when we know we don’t?

What about that fantastic new car? Most come with expensive insurance premiums and hefty maintenance costs. Are we prepared to care for what we’ve asked for?

Academic honors? Could we perform like A students after we’d been given high marks we hadn’t earned? What would we do if we were exposed as frauds?

When we talk to God, we need to remember that we live in the real world. We earn rewards and learn to handle them as we do. Confining our prayers to requests for knowledge of God’s will, the power to carry it out, and the ability to live with the consequences will ensure that we get no more than we can handle.

––––=––––

Just for today: I will pray only for knowledge of God’s will and the power to carry that out in the real world.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Hey y'all!!!! I think life if finally settling down a bit. Woohoo!!!

The 12 traditions are really helping me get through work and my home group (especially the principles over personality). There are definitely some personalities that I'd like to just chew out.

I'm doing good with avoiding added sugars/artificial sweeteners. I've been keeping it to a minimum of honey, pure maple syrup, and organic evaporated cane juice when I absolutely need to add something. 7 months so far.

I do have a problem with stress eating and with bread. My daily caloric intake is about twice what it should be on my "bad days" and I haven't been getting enough exercise either. I think staying hydrated and getting my backside to the Y on a more regular basis will help the eating.

I've missed y'all over the past several months.

Inventories are so important. Good for you Tricia. I just met with my sponsor last week to review a written inventory of recent concerns/issues. The tenth step is so valuable for keeping our behavior in check and taking stock of our own motives and responsibilities for our actions.

Thanks for your honesty. Self appraisal and sharing with another alcoholic is so important to our sobriety!

Sending all the Friends in Recovery peace today.

I've been thinking more about trying to inventory my hoarding behavior. Seems like it is a lot about avoidance, which is a tough thing to get a handle on.

Enjoying a kind of lazy sunday morning. I got up and baked something for my mom's party tonight, and watered the lawn. It's been a really wet spring and this is the first time we've had to water. So I was dragging the little sprinkler around, like 7 different spots. It was kind of humorous. I woke up at 5, and am about ready to fall back asleep (it's 9:45 now.)

Hi, all. Just doing my occasional fly-by.

Lots going on right now. We are preparing to have an apartment built in my mom's basement. My boyfriend and I and our cats will be living in that apartment. We expect the build to begin sometime in early June. There's a LOT that needs to get done before that build can start, so we are hussling! I have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

My own house will be rented out for a year, and then we will revisit selling. According to my real estate agent, the market in the DC area is weaker than it was in 2014! :( I'm hoping and praying for good tenants. The agent is coming over on Monday the 8th to look at our house and go over everything with us (we are also using him as our property manager--I prefer to stick with what/who I know. He's a decent guy.)

It's getting harder to get Mom and myself to the doctor, due to my work schedule and due to all that's happening with the house in WV (Mom's house.) I'm going to start just making appointments and asking my brother to help me, if he can. I'm due for some doctor appointments, too. Craziness!

Meanwhile, I have lost about 8 pounds, but I still don't have an exercise regimen. I am really trying to get there! I stay generally active, but I don't think it's enough.

I hope you all are well!

Ha Ha! That's very cute. I don't have anything to complain about either. There are plenty of things going on in my family and around me that are not pleasant, but complaining about it doesn't make it better. I'm glad to stay in gratitude.

Good to see you Trish! Hope you have some normalcy back. You have been missed.

Wispy, so glad your adventure/vacation was better than you expected. Unplanned joy is so refreshing for the soul.

Yes, two awesome meetings in one day is so wonderful.

I went to a very emotional and spiritual meeting on Sunday night. Just happened that everyone had something powerful to share. Meetings are always best when no one plans the agenda, it just unfolds through honesty and authenticity.

Cool sharing. Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone just popping in to say hello and catch up with the chat.

Just got back from a short and lovely vacation.
I am just realising how much difference it makes in my life when I look for good in every situation. This is something I learned since joining the programme. It is interesting because I was a very negative person and always seemed to see the problems in everything.

These days my life is so much happier. It is not that the other stuff is not there, but my days and memories are full of all the good stuff. Our trip was an adventure and a rather eventful one as it turned out. But everything that went awry, every single thing turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It turned out to be so much better than we could ever have planned it.

Blessings Wispy

The semester is over, so hopefully I will be able to get back into balance for a bit. I haven't completely figured out what I'm doing this summer. My kid who went to college isn't coming home except for a week or two in August. So that's kind of sad.

Head and neck pain are almost gone.
Plan to do my morning workout, stretch and then a short walk before physical therapy.
Just for today I will face life with a great attitude!

Janael glad your dishwasher is up and running. And thanks about your kinds words about my son.

Jen, walking in the mall is a great idea.

Leslie, you are so right about the Twelve Steps. There is something I just learned in both Al-Anon and AA meetings......something like don't talk and listen more.....love it. It is really what I did at the beginning. I am leading the Al-Anon meeting on Wednesday. I am excited.

The presidency is just what I needed. I love it. I have already got a lot done with more to do. I love helping our neighborhood.

I am trying to reinstate or reactivate Tebow's Fans for Christ , a group I created. If I am chosen as leader I am going to go with this. I was gifted a NFL Tebow jersey from the Jets from my son who works for Nike. And....maybe he will have the same number and the colors are the same. God works in mysterious ways. LOL! Anyway, God has this situation. I LOVE emoticon !!!!

Speaking of sports, Grandma just has to show you a picture of my youngest athlete, playing the same position I played in softball.....catcher! Here's Kellen.....

Okay.....time for me to get some sleep. Blessings to all today! emoticon

Hi Team,
Jen, I'm glad you have the dishwasher in and running. That makes life nice.

Jenae, I'm sorry you are tired, but sometimes we have to honor our bodies. You are very consistent with your meetings.

Lynda, I'm so glad to hear your son made amends to you and your husband. He is certainly a wonderful example of how to work the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous slowly and thoroughly with the help of a good sponsor and meetings. It is always good to hear a success story of recovery and healing. Now he's ready for Step 10, the beginning of the maintenance steps. Congratulations to him!!!

I met yesterday with my new sponsee. She has been slow and meticulous about completing her 4th step writing. Next week she will share with herself, with me, and with God "the exact nature of her wrongs". She is looking forward to Step 5.

Very recently my neighbor of 39 years, my middle son, my best friend, and my sister have all been in various "life challenges" and have needed a listening and compassionate ear. I have been so grateful to be able to empathetically listen and give feedback when asked, without it being about me. The 12 Steps have been a blessing in my life and have helped me become "right sized" and "a worker among workers", as the literature says.

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know. AS BILL SEES IT

That's great news about your son.

Good luck with the presidency!

The dishwasher was delivered, and my boyfriend installed it yesterday. It washes very well, but on the eco setting, the dishes don't get dry. I don't care about that. I just pop them in the dish drainer. We won't be running it every, single day.

I just want to send BIG emoticon to everyone today.

I am attending my Al-Anon meeting today. I am so blessed to be able to do so. This really helps me with DH and other family members who still have addictions. At the same time last Saturday brings me to tears of joy. Our oldest son came up to our house and beautifully Step Nine for me. Yes he made amends with both of us. DH was completely speechless and is still amazed at how our son has really got his act together. What a beautiful experience. Just wanted to share this personal moment.

I blogged today about an empowering moment i experienced yesterday which really prepared me for the business lunch which indeed went extremely well and resulted in a very good action plan for our neighborhood. Prior to becoming president, I sought my Higher Power for guidance. He will direct my path in this undertaking. Keep it simple. Let go and let God.

Yes, a meeting can really help strengthen us as we deal with day to day situations. I really need to focus on Step 12 and figure out how to reach out more to members of our Fellowship.

Have a Wonderful Wedndesay! emoticon

Hi Team,
Jen, I'm glad you found a dishwasher to help with the chores. You are very busy!!!

Jenae, I'm so sorry that your physical therapy went so poorly. That can be very frustrating. A meeting was the perfect answer to combat frustration and resentment. We recovering alcoholics are truly blessed to have a solution and a place to share.

Lynda, I hope the HOA presidency goes well. That is a very big responsibility.

I'm staying in prayer today about a family situation that has come to light. I, too, am grateful for meetings, a sponsor, and good friends who allow me to share and give me valuable feedback and meaningful solutions.

God is good and sobriety is such a blessing and a gift.

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know. AS BILL SEES IT

Veg, wow! Can you ask for a new PT? That's unacceptable! Some pain is to be expected, but not like what you're describing. The attitude doesn't help either. Yikes!

Lynda, we DID find and buy one last night! I'm so excited! It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I'm awaiting a phone call.

Busy at work today. Going to see my mom after and pick up her laundry, etc. She has an appointment Friday morning, to which I will be taking her, then Saturday, it's off to check on her house in WV. *whew*

Jen, I hope you find a dishwasher. I use mine all the time....it keeps the clutter away. LOL!

Physical therapy is supposed to help you. Good grief.......therapists are supposed to have positive personalities who inspire us to do more. I am so very proud of you, VEGGIE, for sticking in there and and going to a meeting as well. YOU ROCK!

I am heading for a lunch with a real estate sales person today to build as relationship between the real estate company and our HOA. I became the new president on Saturday. I need prayers as I compose a very strong assertive letter to an ex-resident who refuses to pay the annual HOA dues....her lot is up for sale. Whew......I do need prayer for this. I am not jumping into action immediately.......the old Lynda.....I am doing the Let Go and Let God.....and making sure I have all the information I need prior to composing and sending this letter.

Wow.....I see sun. It will probably be overcast, but it doesn't bother me......one of my favorite blue grass songs is emoticon God Put a Rainbow in the Cloud....we hava a lot of rainbows in Washington state.

Blessings and hugs!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Physical therapy was a disaster today.
The therapist had an attitude as big as Texas and it wasn't a positive one.
The result was lots of pain and left in agony.
A few cold packs and Motrin later the pain was tolerable.
Went to a great meeting tonite.
Relaxing the rest of the evening.

Happy Monday, folks!

Had to back out on another comedy show last night, because I did too much and ran out of spoons. I was able to let the hosts know in advance, though, and they offered me a spot on April 26, so hopefully I can budget my spoons better!

Beautiful day outside today, but I have not gotten out in it yet. I try to keep myself busy all day, as I am a temp. ;)

My guy and I are buying a dishwasher, hopefully, tonight. We have the money together, but we've had trouble finding one that we like, that gets good ratings and will fit in our cubby hole. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We did OK without one, but as soon as we hit a busy batch or one of us got sick, the dishes would pile up. Yuck! Hopefully, we'll be back up and running in the next week or so!

I hope you all have a great evening!

Welcome to Marvelous Monday. We have a chance of sunshine and warm temps this week! emoticon i hope all is well with all of you.

I have to admit that I also have to work very hard to try to find balance in my life. It is a challenge. I have to let God be in control and put the harness on when needed. I can see how the meetings I attend help me reflect on my life as others share and it really helps to put everything in perspective. I love walking the Broad Highway together in Fellowship. emoticon And to be able to SPARK too is so awesome! emoticon

I am wishing everyone a MARVELOUS MONDAY! emoticon

Happy Sunday evening.
Good topic!!! Balance and moderation are two things I've continued to work on throughout my sobriety. I am prone to over doing almost anything I become involved with if I'm not vigilant and extremely honest with myself, my loved one, and my sponsor. I rely on the honest feedback of others I trust to keep me out of excessive behavior of any type.

Thank you, Vege, for bringing up the topic.

Hi Friends,
I'm back from another yoga class. That's 3 days in a row. It feels really good.
Today I have to hit the house cleaning really hard. My husband has been doing tractor work and weed eating so the place is really dusty and dirty. Tomorrow my kids and grand kids are coming home for a visit. I'm so looking forward to it.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the wonderful benefits of a sober life.

Hi Team,
I've been out of town more than in since last Thursday. All fun stuff. But, it has meant less Sparking.
Thank you for the link 10 toes. It did bring a smile to my face.
Jen, I'm sorry you fell. I'm glad you are okay. You have a lot on your plate, and a fall is definitely not helpful.
Wispy, good to see you here. I'm so glad we share so many teams. You are always an uplift.
Lynda, I'm sure you are filled with joy.

Have a sober, healthy, and peace filled week, everyone.
