I have never heard of Fred Jones.... I plan to look up articles about him...although I share a classroom with another teacher. We teach all HS subjects to tudents that for some reason have fallen behind. We are not SPED, our students for the most part have attendance and /or behavior problems.I am the assistant teacher, the teacher has been teaching for 16 years to my 3. But this does sound interesting!

We are currently in the middle of a book study with this book. It's really full of great solid advice for all teachers.

i think i saw some of his stuff a few years ago. i like wong and we all got his tools for teaching book when doing internship, but something more adept to high school would definitely be better.

thanks for the info, i'm definitely gonna check it out. funny how i love wong and rafe esquith and ron carter, but they're with the younger grades, so less kiddos and classes to deal with, so its not the same (and the main reason why i'm glad we started this group--more issues we can help each other on that relates to us more)

thanks again. wish i'd known he'd been in houston, i would've made time to go--i need to get back on track with that sort of thing, especially now that the school year's coming back

Does anyone use the Fred Jones method in their classes? I went to a conference in Houston about 3 weeks ago. I have to say I was impressed. He talked about meaning business and sticking to your guns and not buying into arguing with the kids. Our whole school is going to implement his strategies and methods. I really think it will make a difference but I was wondering if anyone else has tried him out in their classes. If you have never heard of him, he is like Harry Wong but for high school. I highly recommend you go and get his book "Tools for Teaching".
