I cleaned out my kids' old playroom...which is now my hobby/workout room.
So spacious and clean! Yay!

Snap, I cleaned my pantry too, and kitchen cupboards. Rearranged my frozen foods. Stocked my pantry and emergency supples.
Arranged to sell some stuff on TradeMe.
Put away some bedding.
Added some clothes to the give away bag.
It must be spring fever!

Gosh everybody has been so busy this month! I cleaned out my closet yet again. It is getting tidier each time as I declutter clothes that no longer fit me. All too big, thank goodness!
I threw away some clothes that I was keepng just in case. When just in case comes they are going to be far too big to wear.
Anyway, even in just in cases, I deserve to look my best.
Took some good clothes to the Goodwill, they are too big, and someone else can enjoy them. Stashed a set of big clothes for just in case I have a rebound, only a few items as I really don't plan to even visit Twoterville again.
Straightened out two dresser drawers. They are too full but soon the big clothes will be falling off me and out they will go too. Glad I saved some good undies from my smaller days as I don't want to shop for undies until I drop another size or two.
I need to purge my shoes, but I'm still hanging on to some thinking they might get more comfortable as my feet get smaller. It,s already happened with some!
The hall linen press got a quick tidy up, as did the office which is doing double duty as a guest bedroom for the next week.
I,ll spend more time tidying the kitchen in August, I have been staying out of the kitchen this month to help me stay on track with my food. Phew!
I might just schedule another closet purge for November and see where I get to. I am beginning to glimpse a future in which my closet is lean and hardworking...

My cleaning lady came today - so the house looks sparkling.
Then I mowed the lawns front and back, raked, watered.
Had help from the 5yr old twins next door - they are always so excited to
help with whatever I am doing. I have to laugh about how excited they are to
do stuff at my house - but not at their own.

July was actually a pretty good month for me. I reupped my commitment to taking off the pounds-- especially the ones I put back on in the months before. argh.

I found this easy and simple approach to making my home and life more organized and really feel good about not feeling bad letting people into my home AND walking into it myself.

While I still have several corners in my tiny apartment that need organizing, it seems doable now rather than overwhelming as it was before.

;;; past 24 hours:
Woke in night so did my bills-- on time
woke early again so did some laundry to take advantage of night almost cool.
Made a dent in my bathroom clutter, too

... CAR wouldn't start so spent rest of morning and part of my evening taking care of getting to work, back again, and getting car to garage. DID IT all and did not give up.

...
Evening
Made huge salad, washed up after it all. Set another load of laundry in to soak, put away dried stuff.

...
I think I earned a tv program or two. but do not really feel like snacking, YAY!

.....

Travelbug-- I sure know about that dance!

GREAT job everyone for being mindful of what we do do! Giving credit and moving on to next.

July was a great month for me on so many levels. Planning to repeat that again for August.

Per my weekly chore list, today we dusted the furniture, appliances, and window seals. Per my ongoing project calendar, we cleaned garage shelf 4 of 40. Planning to spend the rest of the day making messes instead of cleaning them up.

15 minutes: REally there is so much that can be done during that time.
Today was exhausted and had to sleep AND talk to friend on the phone, so i just stayed with maintenance cleaning up after a great dinner of salad and taking all the garbage stuff out and putting garbage bin back and recycling, too. AND a few little things. haha they are all little if we let them be.

Feels so good to be able to tall my landlady that she and the workers can come in this week. i know i will not be embarrassed. And that weight is lifted. Gonna keep up thanks to this team.

cheers,

Good evening team,
Today, with assistance I cleaned the bath shower, sink, toilet, floors, and scrubbed down the fridge as listed on my weekly chore calendar and cleaned garage shelf 3 of 40 as listed on my project calendar.

I keep my mail in a large covered wicker box near the front door and sort it at the end of the month so I can pay the bills the first of each month. Today I sorted the mail in the wicker box, shredding sensitive info, discarding trash, filing insurance information, and putting the actual bills back in the box to be paid on Thursday.

I also cooked a vegetable noodle soup & cleaned up another art mess Iíd made which included putting away the following items: square hole punch, round hole punch, corner punch, awl, stencil, bubble wrap, drywall mesh tape, cutting mat, guillotine paper cutter, brad jar, crochet lace, assorted scrapbook papers, book page scraps, Golden black and white gesso, Golden Matte Medium, Golden Absorbent ground, Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid, Liquitex Gel medium, Liquitex Professional Heavy Body Acrylic Paint (Cad yellow Light, Burnt Siena, Burnt Umber), Golden Titanium Buff Paint, Adirondack Color Wash (Espresso), Stewart Gill Colourise (Ochre), Distress Stain (Wild Honey), Inktense Pencil (Sienna Gold), Plaid Craft Paint (Antique Parchment), Portfolio Water Soluble Oil Pastels (Black, Rust, Golden Brown, Medium Brown). They all have a home on a shelf or in a labeled box inside a cabinet.

I also cleaned my paint water bucket and brushes but my craft mat and glass table need to be scraped and cleaned.
Have a good night.
Letha

Wow 2 of 40.. you are smart and brave both.

Daily routines and timers.... hmm will have to think about that-- it might just save me lots.

I've got work people coming in to replace an ac unit and do some othter things so I got determined to make my little garden apartment look as good as I could today by the time my friend and dog sitter brought my dog back from a couple days with her. Well was she nicely surprised at how lovely it looked -- she said even though it is little it is prettttty and much nicer than when we were neighbors at the last apt/condo. It made me feel good and really didn't take me long.

and now I feel terrific that my next 15 minutes will be organizing some things I had to just put away. Then the next 15 will be maintenance.

I think that is how I will work it. 15 for organizing and 15 for clean/maintenance. I get so overwhelmed by those last bits that I want to make just perrrrrrrrrrfect. argh.

keep taking care of yourselves and your needs yall,

Cleaned off garage shelf 2 of 40. Also cleaned up the art room after my last two art journal pages which meant putting away paint, ink pads, stencils, tissue paper, matte mediums, gesso, gel pens, brush pens, scrap paper, collage images, markers, washi tape, glue sticks, glue, cleaning brushes, paint water containers, & craft mat.

Now Iím free to make a new mess.

Glad to be able to check-in again and to read you!

@Mandy: do not be ashamed. I have too much time on my hands lately, and I came to realize these daily routines are keeping me busy and prevent me from feeling depressed.
I set a timer, and move to something else every 10, 15, 20 or 30 min. Could be work or fitness or even relax.

Well done indeed! So much good 'doing!'

i wanted to come back and say what else i just got myself to do. Once the rugs were all out and stuff, it made sense to dust and then vacuum and sweep and i even mopped the bathroom floor. The kitchen mopping will have to wait---had a date and had to get going.

i probably would have had more fun cleaning the rest of the house. Oh well. Gotta try sometimes, right? riiiiiiiiight.

Now to get more done tomorrow after work to take advantage of the dog being gone.

Making more soup today (Refried bean and barley) which included chopping onion, carrots, red bell pepper, celery, and potato. Also swept the pine needles off the deck, and cleaned shelf 1 of 40 in the garage. Took one of my huge tarps and rolled it up small and tied it with twine so it would take up less space.

I'm chasing dust bunnies for fun and enjoyment today! I found a bunch of them hiding in some boxes under the piano. Amazingly enough there were books under those bunnies! I'm rooting through them (the books) and booting out the bunnies as well as some of the books. The keepers are going to be shelved and enjoyed later.

I'm loading recycling and hauling it away tomorrow.

Have a great day doing whatever you are doing!

Good morning team! I could've sworn I posted here yesterday. Must've missed the "post message" button.

After several lazy days, I got busy yesterday. 75 minutes of laundry, sweeping and mopping. Will probably do the guest bath today.

423/500 minutes completed. Almost there! Think I may up my goal to 600 minutes next month.

DDAWN - I have another battle with AT&T cable/internet.
3 days ago I spoke to a person who went over my bill and told me exactly what it will
be each month. It is more than I was quoted on day-1, but then today I get
my bill and it is even higher than the amt from 3 days ago.
I am so disgusted with this company !!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Good luck with PT Travelbug and yes that is an important thing TODO!

Letha sounds like you are on a roll!

me? I went to work today despite feeling really shot still after stomach problems early in week. Not reacting well to some junk food I ate for dinner tonight. Maybe I will learn?

But I did get the dog out for walk and got the refrigerator cleaned out some and garbage out to curb. Also organized some clothes and made some appointments I needed.
Washed up dishes and got some lunch ready for tomorrow.

All I can do today. But it feels good to have done something. emoticon

Cleaned garage workbench 4 of 4. Organized the vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping of all the floors in the house per my weekly chore list. Divided up a can of Baked beans in to 10 1/4 cup condiment serving cups with lids to eat for meals and snacks. Will save time trying to measure each time I have a serving.

I started cleaning out my coupon drawer. I found coupons that expired in 2004. lol That must have been when I stopped using the coupons. I found a note from a dear friend who has since passed away on how to Can Sausage. I helped my daughter shampoo her area rug, and she moved a desk and chair out of her bedroom to take home for my granddaughter. Granddaughter got her hair cut in a pixie this afternoon and I got my nails done for the first time in a long time. It was a good day.

MIKIIO Ė I love Google spreadsheets. I use them to organize my emergency supplies and to catalog my art supplies. This week I used Google draw to make a map of the cleaning zones in my garage. Iíve made the doc public so you can try to follow the link and look at it if you want.

Made a pot of low calorie curried vegetable soup. The recipe makes six servings which will work out to 2 dinners for two people plus two additional snacks for myself. Hereís a link to the recipe if anyone is interested.

I cleaned out my Sparkpeople food tracker food groupings and favorite foods. I got rid of duplicates and things I havenít eaten in more than 2 months to make it easier to quickly find the things I eat regularly.

I updated my Spark Friend feed to only show new blog post so that I can more quickly and easily find the information Iím interested in without skimming through all of the activities of my spark friends.

Yesterday, I got through my Pick 3 and bonus items: Finalized appointment with gutter and window cleaner, prepared mailing for homeowners association, stopped at rec center to sign up for swim lessons with a personal trainer (so I don't have to take lessons with people who have to be taught how to put their faces in the water), balanced checkbook and paid bills, got with walking club secretary to sign annual financial report, did a little decluttering, and tidied up the kitchen with MIL.

So far today, I've done a little decluttering, mailed out the homeowners association letters, and submitted the walking club report. Now to deal with the budget crisis du jour at work and head out for an offsite for the rest of the day.

Great thread! I agree Letha!

I cam home exhausted and got myself some more soup and a nap. So far that is an accomplishment. Now to see if I can get my garbages all collected and get out the recycling along with a short dog walk-- she goes with me to get garbage in the bin so gets excited when I start to gather. so cute. Better do now before dark.

Knuckles-- sorry about the doctor-ridiculous and important stuff. it is too bad that doctors don't really care enough to have their staff go through the trouble that is govt insurance. My son is dealing with similar problem-- trying to find docs who accept what he needs and he needs some serious help.

Everybody else. congrats. emoticon

@Letha: I've been using Google for Excel spreasheet (my To Do List, Food, Planning, etc..), and it was not totally satisfying.
I had totally forgotten that there was a Calendar on Google. Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to use it for Planning my day.

Good morning teammates,
I really like this thread. Thank you everyone for sharing. Todayís accomplishments:

Cleaned off workbench 2 of 4 in the garage from my ongoing project list.
Cleaned out fridge & scrubbed toilet, sink, and shower as listed on my weekly chore list.
Reviewed food plan for tomorrow and made a grocery list.
Cleaned up my Pandora Radio stations, deleting the ones I havenít listened to for over a month.
Cleaned out my Foxfire Internet Favorites taking them down from about 75 to just 8.

I discovered the agenda view of Google calendar. Now that Iíve added more calendars to organize things not everything will fit in the box on the monthly view if all of the calendars are turned on. But the 3 day agenda makes it easy to view items from all calendars for the day. Currently I have three shared Google calendars (home calendar for appointments and such, a weekly chore calendar, & a menu calendar) plus I have a personal calendar thatís not shared where I make medical notes, personal reminders, etc. The purpose of having multiple calendars is so that you can decide which calendars to share and so you can turn calendars on and off when you are looking at your month.

Yes, I'm working for minutes. Just an eye-opener to see how many minutes it takes me per week. I use my iPod to set up a timer or a countdown. I find it quite motivating, and less bothering than usual.

July - Week 4:
Sunday: Kitchen (40 min), Office (50 min), Bathroom (35 min), Bedroom (45 min), Entrance (15 min), Living room (15 min)
Total: 200 min

Monday: Recycling, Sort Papers (10 min), Bedroom (30 min), Bathroom (15 min), Kitchen (25 min), Office (15 min), Living room (15 min), Entrance (10 min)
Total: 120 min

Tuesday: Recycling, Grocery, Sort Papers (15 min), Terrace (30 min. My Today's Goal), Bedroom (25 min), Bathroom (15 min), Kitchen (10 min), Office (15 min), Living room (25 min),
Total: 135 min

Knuckles, sorry about the med insurance fiasco. Hope you find a good doctor soon.

I see Mikiio is also working for minutes, Mandy!

Got through my Pick 3 and my bonus yesterday, so that feels good. Several of today's tasks follow on from yesterday, using Letha_'s example of breaking down a job into smaller pieces.

Winding up prep to get son to college. Need a menu plan for the week because we have guests arriving from the west coast on Wednesday. Will go to the grocery store for a major supply load.

Cooked a healthy dinner last night (Chicken Posole) and that felt great.

did deal with a bunch of emails this morning though

I sympathize with you all dealing with phone/cable crap. I'm having to deal with my son's doctors deciding they are no longer taking government type insurance. (he is severely physically disabled) Then trying to find a new one who will take it.

Thanks for reminder that I am not the only sufferer in the great phone and cable debacle, Celia. Sorry you are having trouble though.

wow how smart is that to break down big job like garage Letha.

Thanks for the idea of pill container as a decluttering! It really helps to have a place to put all bottles and just have little week containers for meds. It is an organization task.

NOt feeling well and so I did a nother sit down task =detangling my necklaces which led to one more swipe at my vanity table thing-- It is getting there! And once I am up to hammering, I will hang the necklaces up on a hat rack thing next to other jewelry thingee so I don't waste what I have. Amongst the necklaces, I found a lovely earring I won awhile back and was sure I had lost before I moved! Thrilled to have it 'back'.

Oh and changed bed and washed bedclothes--feels so much better to feel yucky in crisp clean sheets.

AND will get recycled and today's trash out when temp goes down a bit.

Thanks for this group-- it really has changed my outlook on all the things that can weigh me down.

Cheers,
dDawn emoticon

Ddesertdawn, ugh to dealing with cable/internet/phone companies. We have Comcast for internet and cable and Verizon for phone. We'd like to do a bundle with Comcast to save money, but Verizon won't release our numbers to Comcast. I thought that was illegal, but that's our status. I still need to do what you did and contact Comcast to get our bill lower.

Moonglowsnana, thanks for the popsicle recipe!

Way to break down a huge task, Letha_!

Very busy weekend. With MIL showing up pretty much unannounced, my plans to do massive decluttering before the carpet cleaner arrives went out the window, so I will probably be dumping piles into boxes instead of dealing with the mess, just to get the crap off the floor. Sigh. Anyway, I did get a lot done this weekend. Saturday, in addition to washing bed linens and towels, I drafted the homeowners association summer assessment package and got buy-in from the Board, so I will get that out this week. Sunday, I spent way too much of the day on quarterly and annual reports (including the annual financial report and the IRS Form 990) for our walking club. Got them done and just need to get with the club secretary for her signature. In addition, I did all the rest of the laundry. Also did grocery shopping and cooked dinner from scratch with LOTS of veggie prep, which took more time out of the day. One annoyance was that MIL grabbed stuff from surfaces I haven't decluttered yet and plunked it on my nice, clean kitchen counter that I decluttered Saturday...GRRRR!!

Welcome Letha - that is an excellent idea to set up a calendar and also to have the garage
divided into sections. I've needed to clear out my garage for several years and think I will try that idea.
Welcome to our team for getting organized.

Hi team,
Iím new. Today I set up a new Google calendar, divided my garage up into sections, and schedule cleaning each section between now and the end of summer. I also set up a separate calendar for menus, and I set up the Google task list for things I do daily so I can check them through the day. The calendar is shared to coordinate with my partner which is helpful. I wish you could share the task list too. Iím not that busy but I want to stay focused on my goals.

Cleaned up after storm outside --- in my little outdoor room/garden--still needs some prettying but it is so hot out there.

Got new phone number started and all that.

Started last of workweek laundry-- afraid to hang outside as it might rain yet again. So living room will look like a laundry room yet again.

TRAVELBUG - I just had one of my watermelon popsicles and it was good, but I'm going to play with the recipe to make it better. I think next time I will add a little more salt or lemon juice and a little less honey because the watermelon was sweet already. You can substitute blueberries or strawberries. I think blueberries would be good with blueberry pomegranate juice and they would be sweet too so I would use less, if any, honey. You could use stevia or other artificial sweetener I suppose. Here's what I did though:

Watermelon Popsicles

In the blender:
2 c. seedless watermelon
1/4 c. apple juice
2 T. lemon juice
2 T. local honey
Pinch of salt
Blend and pour into 10 Tupperware popsicles containers. Freeze.

Today I plan to go for a bike ride, prep the fruit we bought yesterday, declutter the kitchen table.

I already did the bike ride. I also cleaned up after a coffeemaker disaster and a sick dog so I'm a bit behind the eight ball today.

DDAWN - I can sympathize with dealing with AT&T.
I just moved to their service in May (got rid of Time Warner) and I am so disappointed with
what I have had to go thru.
I heard that you have to watch the billing all the time - they are very sloppy with billing and
your rates are not what you were originally promised.
I was told mine would be $90 and it is $111...............When I ask about it they just
detail out what each service is and say it is $111.
I have only been with them about 3 months and have paid well over $400 -
I'm counting the months until I can look for another provider.......SIGH.....

Not feeling well enough to do 'all' I had planned for today, but I am going to go out this evening and so want to be careful with my energy.

I did:
put some laundry away--hanging is a physical pain but did it!
put out the clothes I will wear later so there is no panic involved.

Called and spent 27 minutes on the phone with att to get my tv and internet bill cheaper. I may have to call a different provider to bring bill down even further but for now i am not wasting as much as I was anyway. ... Making calls and that sort of thing really makes a difference in my cluttered life-- I put off doing this for 2 month and it cost me about 70 dollars and lots of guilt and frustration with myself. That was energy I could have put toward decluttering the physical. Trying to learn from success!

....
So many people making so many strides here.. I am happy that I am not the only person that this stuff does not come naturally to! AND who is working to make sure to do what we can rather than giving up because we are not perfect. Whew! What a relief.

Cheers,

Mandy, you're doing great!

Thanks for the good words and the Spark goodie, Toni! Yesterday was one to forget. Non-stop at work, DH got stuck in Detroit with a broken plane and couldn't get home, and a late telcon made me miss my train by less than 5 seconds, which, with the next train breaking down, added 30 minutes to my commute on a day I was frantic to get home in time to crisis clean for MIL's arrival today. Managed to get the guest room and bath in shape, and just when I thought I could rest and finish cleaning this morning, guess who called from less than 10 miles away and lost (Garmin died)? Sigh. Broke my no wine streak.

Anyway, this morning, I'm still waiting at mid-morning for MIL to come downstairs. May have to check on her soon, because she is usually up and about before we are on the weekends. So far I've washed our bed linens and decluttered two spots...including that archaeological dig on the kitchen counter. It's not perfect, in that I consolidated like items in folders on a shelf over my desk, so the final disposition of the papers is not complete, but the counter looks good!

Ah Knuckles. I know you will put Outback behind you and move back into "Sparkback" today! Celia - ugh, you had to be a whirling durbish to get all done for your unexpected mil visit/houseguest. I hope it is at least "short and sweet" when it happens.

Lots of plan changes this week so my son and I are organizing today for his departure in a week. My part is to make sure his kitchen and bedding is in order and to help him sort clothes. Maybe I can redo his training too. I was not one of those mothers who had her son fold at 3--now he doesn't seem to know how!! Any advice, mothers?

Have a great day.

emoticon It sounds like lots of productive things are happening with you all. Keep up the good work! I'll just stand over here out of the way and cheer you on from the sidelines!

I had a productive day today too. Really! I went to my brown bag lunch at the library book club meeting and enjoyed it very much. I took in my Spark books and we talked about Spark People for quite a while. emoticon

Then I paid some bills and went to the grocery, came home and put it all away. I'm going to make some watermelon popsicles when I get off the computer and freeze some blueberries for winter while they are so good.It was way to hot and humid here to work outside! But for those of you who did, emoticon It's supposed to be cooler here by Sunday. Until then I'm staying in the AC so I don't melt! Have a good weekend everyone!

Major yard work accomplished today...... and still more to do....
I trimmed all the shrubs and trees in my back yard, and outside my fence in the canyon - branches were hanging in or too close to my yard and dropping all kinds of "junk"
bagged up all the trimmings and have them ready for trash collection on Tuesday.
TO DO:
Still need to do the front yard (mow, rake, water.......)
BUT,
the backyard looks great.

PS went to Costco to buy more "leaf and lawn" bags and discovered that I had
a twig from the canyon pepper tree in my hair (embarrassing....)

Got container to keep dog food in--both types! Will make one flat space better! Took care of errands that take a lot out of me.

Now I have needle and thread to hem 'new' pants that have been waiting for me to find my little sewing kit. Watch me find it after I hem these pants-- they are clutter if I cannot wear them, right? Hope to be out of them soon, but want to wear them beforehand.

brought in and put away all of shopping!

Called for medication refills

I spent 2 hours (and $300) at the vets this morning. the foster dog has an ear infection and had scratched her ears so bad that they were bleeding. Now to go clean up the drops of blood that she flung everywhere with shaking her head.

moved my book selves in my bedroom, brought in the new 5 shelve bookcase what a difference this is making to getting organized now I have a permanent place for charging my Nook, cell phone and have my binoculars at the ready with my purse there too - such satisfaction not having everything haphazardly thrown on a chair or night stand not so messy.

Do or do not. There is no try. YODA

First a rant: DH will FINALLY come home tonight after being gone for a week to take care of his daughter and then fly with no time to even come home for a clean uniform shirt. But just when I thought we would get some time together to pick up the house before the carpet cleaner comes next week, MIL announced a Saturday arrival. Sheesh! I know when you're retired your time is your own, but my time and DH's time is really limited, and we had plans. She was supposed to come in May, canceled until September, then thought she might come the end of July (giving us time to get the house ready), and then BOOM, tomorrow! She's a great lady, but I'm feeling put out. All my decluttering planned for tonight will be replaced with crisis cleaning to get the guest room and bath ready, and alone time with DH will be almost nonexistent. Thanks for letting me rant.

Now, yesterday I didn't get through much of my Pick 3. On the plus side, I washed towels, shopped for groceries, did some decluttering, triaged the mail, got the trash and recycling collected and to the curb, hauled a bag of junk out of the basement, cooked myself a healthy dinner, and cleaned up the kitchen.
