Oh boy! This past week I went through many of clothes and tubs in basement 6 of them along with drawers and shelves to compile yard sale items . Had around 8 to 10 boxes and 150 clothes items and made 185.00 in one day (sat. from 8 till 7) only put 2 signs. However I had planed to join my friend at her yard sale on the 1st & 2nd of august , im really glad my daughter talked me into having it one day here as well. Still have plenty of stuff to sell at my friends in two weeks. Will go through and find some more stuff as well! ( THIN IT OUT ) great feeling!

Cleaned the drawer holding my computer stuff, checkbooks, old calendars saved for posterity, phone chargers, note pads, one passport (one is still missing!), and eye glass cleaners. Now I know where to look for this stuff!

Today I ran the vaccume , mopped and moved 2 more plants from front room window and put out on front porch , cleaned off sofa table where they've sat since last Oct. and cleaned blind and washed curtains in that window.less cluttered area , with more view of front yard , and more light comming in. Feels refreshing! I like this message board , being able to accomplish tasks and then brag about it is somewhat satisfying emoticon

Amandabanana, don't you just love your shark steamer. I really like mine.
Travelbug 2 -great job and you too Starfish1961.
Yesterday, I painted the accent wall in my bedroom-which has a vaulted ceiling. I moved the furniture back after I finished, then I made dinner for my DIL who is a new mom and having difficulty dealing with her husband being gone on National Guard duty. Erik and I took the dinner to their house, ate with DIL and 2 yr old granddaughter, played with DGD, held the baby so mommy could get a few things done, then came home-they live about an hour away.
Today, I hope to get to knitting club for a bit and work on my office. I need to clean it up so I can paint in there too.

Packed up 4 lg. boxes for garage sale my friend and I will be having in a couple weeks , what doesn't sell will go to goodwill , however I usually earn at least 100 $ for my efforts and several (more ) boxes of stuff sitting around not being used
Then I'll treat myself to a new (smaller) outfit or two emoticon

Very HOT and HUMID here - again.
I watered plants in the yard, crushed an old plastic patio chair with a hammer so it would fit in the recycle bin.
Changed bed linens, did 3 loads of laundry and all is put away.
Went thru cupboards and kitchen area......filled 2 large boxes of stuff and took it to the
goodwill drop-off. Including 2 more plastic patio chairs that were still usable.
Took all my plastic bottles to the recycle center, took all the empty plastic bags to the
drop-off at the supermarket...........
Feels wonderful to have all that stuff out of the yard, garage and house !!!!
Now I'm going to relax for a while WHEW!!!!!

I'm working on writing my final paper ever for college but I am taking time for breaks and doing laundry. I'm going to finish up the paper and then clean the floors in my kitchen, laundry room, dining room, and bathroom with my amazing Shark steamer. And then I plan to vacuum the living room and bedroom. Hopefully I can get that all accomplished this afternoon!

Our lives can change with every breath we take.

I'm feeling pretty much like a slug, even though I've gone through some cleaning spurts. Finally got myself to turn on the timer for 15 minutes to work on the kitchen counter. I'll admit it made a difference...several days ago. Now the clean area is covered with other junk.

Moonglowsnana and Toni, thanks for the encouraging words after the cat had his medical emergency. Almost done forcing the meds down his throat. Glad you liked "diddly-squat." :-D I turned back to this thread looking for motivation, and you two certainly are providing it, along with all the others who are keeping cool, getting good exercise, and finding time to do everything from deep cleaning to decluttering hot spots. DH is going to visit his daughter today, so I plan to use the time finishing laundry and filling up garbage bags and donation bags with stuff to go.

Very Very HOT here - but I did manage to do a little bit in the yard and bought 2 new chairs
for the yard (just plastic) to put under my new Palm Umbrella....
Some watering and put on some wild bird seed that the rabbits just love.

Got 2 pillowcases made - birthday gifts for later in the week.
Will need to clean the whole house (put stuff away) the cleaning lady comes on Wednesday.

Hadn't cleaned the porch off in almost a year. Took everything down and washed it , threw out old planters and porch deco along with an oldchair and stool. Put up new wind chimes ,new porch rug , new used chair and new porch plants from inside till frost then back inside. Very cozy on the porch now for these hot summer days and muggy evenings. emoticon

I finally finished the yard. I work on it over three days to avoid heat exhaustion. This week it only took me 2 hours and 40 minutes. It had been taking me 3 hours and 40 minutes. I'm going to clean up a bit today and prepare a dinner for my DIL-the new mommy with a toddler.

Good morning all! I spent some time in the flowers yesterday weeding and taking the seed heads off of the columbine. We have columbine everywhere and they will probably be coming up through the cracks in the sidewalk with all the seeds I scattered as I was pulling them out and off, trying to eliminate the jungle look. Everything has gotten away from us! We have such healthy looking weeds!

Wonderful, Knuckles. Sounds so gratifying.

I have my garden weeds on the run. I was literally crawling under a bank of forsythia yesterday pulling big stalks and vines out of the bed. Sort of like one of those mud run obstacle courses, right in my back yard!

Sure hope the cat is okay, Celia, and boy I agree, MOONGLOWSNANA, have not heard "diddly squat" in a long time AND some days keeping up with everything is about out of the question.

I'm taming shrubbery in "tropical" Northern Virginia. The rain has made everything explode and grow, including weeds. So I will be pulling and hacking away this weekend trying to find my yard! LOL

Have a good weekend!

Your opening phrase made me smile. emoticon I haven't heard that one for awhile. I hope the cat is feeling better, and agreeing to take the meds the vet ordered. Emergencies take over and then exhaustion sets in. Some days it's just plain hard to keep up with everything. I hope you slept well and had the energy to get up and go this morning! I had a long day yesterday and just finished triaging our mail this morning. The cats and dog are napping and it is so quiet here I want to nap too! But I have things to do so I'm up and at it! Hope you have a good day!

Pretty much diddly-squat at home yesterday, though I made major progress on a work project. Once home, I didn't even clean up the kitchen or finish triaging the mail. When I saw the kitty had thrown up blood, I called my vet, who said to bring him right away. I bagged the bloody paper towels and made a stop at the litter box, because, hey, they always ask for poo. Then I tricked the cat into his carrier, searched for five minutes for my keys, and headed out. The vet thought he had an ulcer in his esophagus, so they gave him fluids with meds and sent him home with more meds to take. By the time I got home, there was just time for dinner and a little web surfing before bed.

My mom and I cleaned out an unused bathroom and part of an unused bedroom we used for a while as a den. (We have a big house, lol... but that means getting rid of a LOT because we're moving to a much smaller one.) We separated a lot to go to the trash and a lot to go to Goodwill... and we went ahead and took the stuff to Goodwill so it wouldn't sit around! Still a long way to go in that bedroom, but the bathroom is done at least.

Got the hummingbird feeders replenished and did the major litter box cleaning and ALL the laundry yesterday. Could not face the teetering piles of stuff on the kitchen counter, so that task waits for another day. Today at work, I got a lot done on a project, so that makes me feel good.

Thanks, 4_My_Girlz and Moonglowsnana! Now I don't feel so alone with my tidy hidey-holes and messy open spaces.

Yesterday I elected to stay inside and declutter. Got that linen closet tidied up...for now at least. Also spent 30 minutes in the bedroom on some hot spots, and while it's not perfect, it looks better. Finally, after cleaning up the kitchen, I worked on the piles on the coffee table. Again, not perfect, but it looks better.

Hit the oil and vinegar shelf in my cupboards. Was in total disarray! Also got some weeding done--whew. Both things felt great to get done. Looking for my next project...

Thanks to this group, I bagged up three trash bags worth of clothes today. They're ready to be taken to Good Will. Sometime this week I plan to head to Good Will and the recycle center and actually get some of this stuff out of the house and garage!

I put away receipts and deposit slips this morning after scrubbing the toaster oven. I'm going
to take a look at the checkbooks and make sure they are in order. We have property taxes next month. The come due here after Christmas and then in the middle of summer. It's always something!

Yesterday, the first day of summer, I started working on cutting back some plants. I also mowed part of my yard and some of the community space behind my property. I mowed for 90 minutes for two days and had kept the power drive off for 15 minutes each time.
I'm tired but have nearly completed a task. Today I'm buying a hedge clipper to make my job easier. I know the hand clippers are more exercise, but it's too hot out and I want to work on cleaning up my office too.

Decluttering is such an energy booster. I pulled weeds in my garden yesterday and it felt great. Picking another plot in the yard today (little by little). Grilled chicken and tried a recipe for watermelon and feta salad (there are many). Decided watermelon by itself is terrific (-:

Happy First Day of Summer.....
I'll be out enjoying most of the day.....lunch with friends and then to the Zoo for
Summer Nights. The zoo is open until about 10:00 and the animals are much more
active at night.....I'm going with my lunch bunch, so it should be lots of fun.

I live in San Diego and wear the same clothes all year long, so I don't have to put way
seasonal clothes......my only put away are the clothes that don't fit so well any more.
I really need to focus on my food, eating and portion control.
I've been doing badly as of late..... emoticon

Celia - My daughter has never understood why my cupboards are more organized than my table tops either. I think I keep the cupboards organized because it is a small space and confined and I can accomplish the task of arranging things there fairly quickly and easily if I stick with it! Once it's done I seem to be able to keep them neat for a long while. But my bedroom closet is a different ball game. If onlyI could get the seasonal clothes changed before the season changes the next time. Now I'm juggling changing sizes and changing seasons and my piles are teetering on those top shelves! I need to emoticon until I "get 'er done!"

I like the suggestion somebody had of doing "mail triage" so all the mail goes in a wooden box in my office and a couple times a week I sit down and go through it. have boxes for shredding and recycling by my desk. I try to adhere to the "one touch" rule. every piece of paper has to be dealt with once you touch it. either trashed, recycled, in shredding box or put in bills to pay file or filed

All the so called "secrets of success"will not work ... unless you do.

@Celiaminer - I hear you on the teetering piles on the kitchen table and coffee table. I come from a long line of pilers in my family. Need to break this cycle. UGH!!!

How to figure out a better way to deal with all the paper? Anyone have any good suggestions?

Again another day of doing little, not even my Pick 3. The only accomplishments were tidying the kitchen (including the dirty dishes DH left), getting out the trash and recycling, and being interviewed for SparkRadio.
emoticon

Giant Panda is back to decluttering and posting her successes, the most recent one being a total bathroom cleanout. I am hoping her energy will rub off on me, since the linen closet in the master bath looks like Big Nate's locker (if you read that comic strip). Of course today I'm feeling all excited about cleaning that closet out, but I'm away until tomorrow, so who knows if that excitement will dissolve into inertia by then. I also have to wonder why I get excited about cleaning a place I can close and hide, while teetering piles adorn my kitchen counter, coffee table, and desk.

I have more than one tabletop covered with clutter, and it was suggested to me that i should take a box and fill it. Then take the box elswhere to go through it, decide what to keep and what to discard. Then put the "keep" pile away, and start over. Doing it this way keeps me from becoming overwhelmed at the size of the task at hand, and allows me to accomplish smaller goals ubtil the table is finally cleared. I'm going to try it!

Did a few more minor clean-up and improvements to the yard (seems like I have to keep at it all the time.)
The house is picked up and the laundry is all done. I should run the vacuum - but I think I'll put that off until tomorrow. or later tonight.

After a wonderfully relaxing weekend at an inn and spa with a fabulous restaurant, I managed to unpack and stow my suitcase and do about 80% of the laundry. Then DH and I cooked a yummy, healthy dinner (except for the oversized piece of leftover birthday ice cream cake) and cleaned up the kitchen.

I was pleased this weekend that I took my Girl Scouts to deliver the pop can tabs that we've been collecting for the past year to the Ronald McDonald House here in Cleveland. I also did two additional delivery's of Girl Scout stuff that just needed out of my house and to it's rightful owners.

My laundry is caught up and put away. Doesn't it feel good! I pulled out everything from my desk cupboard though and am giving away some of the stationary. Email has made me need less and less as the years have gone by so my granddaughters can have some to take to camp with them. I'm hoping that the coloring books and crayons can take the place of the stationary and get those boxes out of the corner in the dining room.

I am so behind at the moment, Organised Buddies. I am going away in a week for a work trip/holiday, and I haven't even finished planning the trip or writing my talks for the conference, let alone all the things I need to do before I go.

My sister is housesitting for me, so I need to leave the place in a reasonable state. And I'm having people over three times between now and when I go away. It seemed like a good time.

Anyway, things I've done between now and when I last posted:
-Brought over a few more boxes from my parents'. There is still more stuff there too - it's just never-ending!
-Went through one or two more boxes (I've forgotten). One box was a mixture of small items I could throw away or donate to charity, and highly meaningful things like the order of service from the funeral of one of my youth leaders in high school (he was 23. I had a good cry just finding that, and immediately filed it in a safe place).
-Cleaned and rehung the sort-of-horrible light fitting the painters took down when they painted my place in January, which I'd shoved into a cupboard. Now I have a free shelf for other stuff. On the other hand, when I rehung it, there were two bits of it left over. Hm...
-Put away a bunch of stuff from the dining room table, where I'd been sorting boxes (I'm bad about actually finding homes for the sorted piles).
-Washed my sheets and towels. And two more loads of laundry.
-Ran an event, a catered dinner for my musical society. This involved putting my systems to use by actually being able to find various items I needed for decorations etc. Not bad, actually. Although I still haven't quite finished unpacking from it...

I did manage to wash, dry and put away all the dog towels, and to get some more of the mid month bills paid. I ran out of checks while I was doing it and had to call the bank to get some to tide me over until the order comes in. That will take about ten days, and then I'll b back in business. I haven't ever forgotten to send in the bank order for checks, but I used a book of checks out of sequence and that messed me up! I HAVE TO GET MORE ORGANIZED. So I am cleaning out the drawers where I keep business papers and finding a new place to keep my checks so they don't get mixed up again, and I will pay more attention when loading the checkbook to keep the checks in order. I now have a goal of being mindful of what I'm doing when I'm doing it! That will cover a lot of things and hopefully help me clean up my cluttered path to organization.

Wow, Giniemie, your activities of daily living make me tired just reading them! I need that kind of exercise, but my knees won't let me do it. I did aqua aerobics this morning and struggled getting in and out of the pool, but I'll keep at it. I don't seem to have all the motivation or energy that you have, I had surgery in February and am still recovering, but I don't think I ever had that much energy. Could you bottle some of yours ad send it to me? lol emoticon

Yesterday I mowed 70 + percent of my yard, but I couldn't finish because I was getting dizzy from the heat. Forgot my hat and didn't take enough breaks.
I also made chicken enchiladas & spanish rice and drove the dinner 45 minutes away to my youngest sons. Finally got to see my littlest Angel-Elenore Rose.
Today I'm knitting.
This coming week I need to: devote 30 minutes a day to my office.
finish my granddaughters dresses
go to a funeral
finish my great niece's blanket
go swimming 5 X
and close the HOA pool each day
mow the lawn Weds or Thurs.
paint my accent wall in my bedroom
Whew, I'm tired already and didn't mention house cleaning, cooking, laundry and volunteering on Thursday.......

Been going through the toys I have for when friends bring their kids over, as well as some other items that might appeal to kids, like small picture frames, fans, etc. Some are things no one seems to play with. So boxed them up and brought them to Bible class, then let the kids go through them and take what they wanted. The kids were thrilled and I got half the box emptied!

Looks like everyone is busy on this beautiful weekend.
I got the yard work done, mowing, edging, re-seeding, re-potting etc.
Front and back yards - now it looks nice.
I had put too much turf builder on my lawns and had several dead spots where it
was too much of the stuff....so I re-seeded those spots and have my fingers crossed.
The house is pretty organized and tidy - I can't always say that LOL.
Enjoy the weekend.

went to a bunch of garage sales and only came home with one item, a revere ware soup stock pot. its a bit smaller than my current one (which tends to burn on the bottom) so I'm hoping it works better and I can donate my current one.

I so managed to get in some walking and socialized my new foster dog. (she is on the timid side, but we only brought her home yesterday)

on the plan for today is: give dog a bath, take file boxes to storage, and clean rats cage.

All the so called "secrets of success"will not work ... unless you do.

I bought lemonade and fruit punch for the grandkids and put the cartons in the freezer. I opened each one and poured out a bit to allow for expansion.

Stocking summer supplies. This year less soda for the masses, more healthy drinks on hand.

I cleaned out the fridge and am sorting through one of the 15 boxes in my room. It is my goal to have them sorted by 7/1/13, so one a day should do it.

I did laundry all morning and got three baskets not only folded, but also put away! I still need to get to all the horizontal surfaces that are stacked full of stuff!

I posted this on the wrong Spark Team before I posted it here! How's that for distracted disorganization!!!

Thursday:
Swimming, straightened the house for company, 2 different doctors appt miles apart, taking Erik shopping and making dinner for a guest who canceled last minute. So I called some friends and invited them over.
Life gives you lemons-make lemonade. We had a good time until the storm struck.

Didn't do much today - just made my bed....LOL

But had a lot on my plate 2 exercise classes, car to dealer for a safety recall item, taking care of my brother's dog who can no longer walk (poor thing... it is so sad and I think her days are numbered.)

Then a brisk 80 minute walk with friends...........now I'm home and totally pooped.

OMG My make up bag! Time to toss and make sure everything in there is not old or un-needed.
