Good advice!

For all receipts, if the store has a policy that if an item goes on sale within 2 weeks of purchase (or it is on sale at another store within a week or so after purchase), they will give you back the difference, then I would keep all receipts for that period of time, same as if there was an item I might need to return.
Otherwise, I would treat debit card receipts the same as charge card receipts - keep them until your statement comes in and check them off. If it is for a large ticket item then you may want to hang on to it for insurance purposes, noting what the item was that the receipt is for, and saving those somewhere other than your home.

On cards - I have a box or maybe a shrine - the size is a double shoe box and I have card, letters and photos I really love in it. Once a year - "memorial day," my birthday I look through it all, otice that soe things does not seem important anymore and throw it away and keep the stuff I still love... I am sixty and there is still room in that shrine. I started this fifteen years ago or so when I noticed that I kept a lot of "Memories" that I never looked at.

I found this: True Dye Fixatives, an all-purpose solution
There is only one type of product that you can buy that will actually set dye regardless of its type. A product called Retayne, sold by local quilter's supply shops as well as by most mail-order dye supply houses (see Sources for Dyeing Supplies),

Retayne is a cationic dye fixative.
Retayne and other commercial dye fixatives are the only real solution to commercial clothing that bleeds.
is recommended for fixing dyes in commercially purchased cotton fabrics or clothing to prevent color bleeding during washing. This product is a cationic bulking agent, which acts to seal in the dye by physical means, rather than the chemical bonds which are so dependant on the type of dye. It seems that the particles of Retayne adhere to the dye molecules, effectively making them larger, so they do not come out of the fabric as easily. Note that Retayne is washed in as a laundry additive, and thus can be used only on things that can be immersed at least once without the dye immediately floating off and ruining other parts of the same item. Retayne may be removed by washing with overly hot water, and thus treated items must be washed in cool water. (Unfortunately, the one situation Retayne cannot help with is the dry crocking of indigo, in which improperly applied dye rubs off of the fabric even when dry.)

Instead of Retayne, G&S Dye sells a similar product called Raycafix, which they say is stronger; another advantage of Raycafix is that it can be laundered in warm water without losing strength. Dharma Trading Company sells Retayne and also a product called "Dharma Dye Fixative", which they claim increases the washfastness, wetfastness, resistance to perspiration staining, and resistance to seawater fading of several different kinds of dye. I don't know how it compares to Retayne; it may be a generic version of the same product, or a related product, instead. Aljo Dyes strongly suggests the use of their equivalent product, Aljo Pro-fix PCD after-treatment, after using direct dyes, which would otherwise run too much to be at all desirable. (See Sources for supplies for contact information for all companies mentioned.)

Note that the use of any such aftertreatment, while improving washfastness, may adversely affect lightfastness; dry garments indoors, and store them in darkness when they are not being worn or displayed. www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/settingdye

Hope this is the right spot to ask this......

I have 3 new pairs of jeans that are very dark. I really like the colour and have been washing them inside out in cold water. ( there is no hot hooked to my machine for some reason). While this keeps the colour looking great, it also holds the dye in. After a day of wearing a pair, my hands are blue and so are my thighs. Any ideas for keeping the colour but not the excess dye?

Thanks,

Karla

I do not usually keep cards. I have a few from my children when they were young. However, when cleaning out my mother's house before she moved to a care center, I was deeply touched to find that she had kept every card we kids had sent her. They don't take up much space, so it made me think.

I do wish I had kept old letters from friends. Mom had also kept letters I sent her from camp, school, etc. and it was really interesting to read them 40 some years later.

posting this from my sparkmail because even though this issue has been solved, this information might be beneficial for others.

This might help. I was just reading my April 2013 REALSIMPLE yesterday, and on page 58 they mention a website manualslib.com this is what it says
Can't remember how to operate your electric mixer? Inherited a disassembled hand-me-down crib? No need to wing it -- just head to this database. The site contains a million free user guides uploaded by consumers who (miraculously!) held on to the instruction booklets. Search by brand name or product type. You'll be in the know in no time.

Perhaps someone has uploaded the booklet to her oven/range. She can get the info on how to clean the broiler. ????? Perhaps. Hope this helps.

My Sister says she takes the blinds down and soaks them in their bathtub. She uses Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water.

Recently I have cleaned three of my blinds. I let them all of the way down and closed them with the rounded side toward me. I dusted and wiped them down first. Then I sprayed them with a spray cleaner and wiped them. I came back with a dry cloth and wiped down.

This takes a lot of effort, but they looked so good when I was done.

Good luck.

I gave it a google.....some of the links make good sense and sound much simpler than taking the broilers out....with gas, that would definitely be more dangerous than electric.

Why not simply burn it off? Open windows....put on the vent-fan and click BROIL.....

I've never collected dust on my burners as I use them frequently.

Do let us know what you come up with.....

If you have an appliance that you no longer have the booklet to, REALSIMPLE magazine just posted in their April, 2013 issue on page 58 a web site that you can go to to search if someone else has uploaded it.
The site is manualslib.com

You search by brand name or product type and there are supposed to be more than a million booklets uploaded.

My suggestion for the broiler question would be to see if the manufacturer's website lists a customer service number. I'd call and ask about the safest way to clean the broiler area.
