I'm still sooo behind! After I cooked dinner last night I really didn't have long, and I was sooo tired and generally unmotivated. I kept looking at the mess and getting overwhelmed! Then I'd say to myself, just do ONE THING at a time. But I still don't really feel like I made a dent.
What did I do? -Put all my files away in my filing cabinet. -Found a new box for my spare Christmas cards etc -Put some of the empty boxes (which I want to keep or at least give to someone else) in the tops of cupboards. -Unpacked another box of "stationery" which amounted to empty filing trays and blank paper (and fairy lights and a music stand, weirdly enough. My packing skills aren't the best.) -Put away some piles of sorted stuff into the boxes they were supposed to go in. -Laundry, in the morning. It hadn't dried by the end of the day though so it's hanging up inside making everything look worse.
My sister's staying tonight! I need to clear SO MUCH more stuff before she comes over. And yet, I somehow don't think I will have any time tonight, between going to the gym, eating dinner (even if I use one of my pre-prepared meals), revising the stuff I'm supposed to do tonight at rehearsal, and rehearsal itself. I really need to learn to make the most of every bit of time I do have, because even ten minutes - say in the morning - would add up and make a big difference.
I'm glad it's not tax time in my country! Then again, I'm pretty good at getting it done (and I usually get a refund, which is awesome too).
yes I did find the number!! Had wonderful morning took ten minutes with a bowl of oatmeal and hot "chocky" looking in my backyard with snow on the trees and shrubs..big plump snow flakes... my reward for a morning routine that I established in February...well gotta go clean up the dishes from supper

Wow, do I need to focus. I've checked a lot off my to-do list today, but only the towels count as cleaning. On the other hand, I finished a couple of work projects, got the trash & recycling collected and to the curb, ran errands (blood work, hardware store, pet store, grocery store), did ST with my trainer, and went to my chiro appointment. Still have some things to do this evening (bills, finish [yay!] last bit of will paperwork, clean up kitchen).

I dusted the living room and my computer area and vacuumed all the carpets. Sorted through library books to return also.

I love catching up on this site...I imagine all of you whisking around your houses getting organized..and then I know I have to get something done so I can post it! great motivation...last 2 nights I was looking for a phone number and ended up filing papers, getting all my paperwork organized...I've been working on organizing it for several months. I then organized our built in bookcase in the living room.."neatonized it" that's my new word for the year..I think I have my husband trained to put things away where I've indicated,,but we'll see

Tomorrow is our last day of February...... did you accomplish your goals??? I did pretty well. Currently the tax papers are all organized and ready to meet with the CPA. The laundry is done and put away......the kitchen is all picked up. I need to clear off the papers and junk on the dining table.....but that is a daily battle.....
So, how did you do?
PS: forgot to add that the pantry cabinet is all cleaned and I got rid of old items and things that I should not have in there LOL

Mylla, sounds as if we had similar days (though I didn't cut myself). Hope you get more free time today and tomorrow.
Travelbug and Nancy, I am envious. We have gotten as far as getting the tax organizer out. DH normally handles the taxes, but it takes him forEVER to get started. I think I will have to jump in this year and do it myself. Last year, we ended up owing the Feds and getting a pittance back from the state. We had to file an extension, and things didn't get sorted out till September. I. Want. Those. Taxes. Done. Now!

Wahoo - the tax paperwork is all organized and forms filled out for the accountant. I have a meeting scheduled with her at 10:00AM on Friday and then the taxes for this year are done done done. I sure hope I get a little bit back....... it would help.
Tomorrow I have my to-do list ready and will have a full day getting things done at home. I have started another bag for the goodwill and I think I will have it filled tomorrow.

So much for "I should have an hour at home tonight". I guess I did have that - exactly that before I had to be leaving again - and I had to eat and do some preparation for my rehearsal in that time too. Ended up with about five minutes, so I figured I'd chop up all my veggies for lunches, and that probably wasn't the wisest chore to choose to do in a hurry, because I ended up cutting my thumb!! Not badly, though.
Anyway, I did manage to get a bunch of sandwiches made and frozen after I got home, too. And this morning I put a box away? But I don't know how I'm going to manage to get the place ready for the weekend! Guess it'll have to be some really intensive work on Thursday night!

What a day! I managed to get one load of towels washed. Period. Not even mail triage. I've been on the run for work since 6:30 this morning. Finally getting dinner at 9 pm.

I am housebound at present so been doing more cooking , putting meals in portion sizes in freezer, it's showed me I need more plastic lidded boxes ,a lot of mine are scratched or the lids are not so good. So as soon as I am fit I will restock on storage boxes in all sizes. Irene

Mylla_R - Having your sister and friends in will surely make your place home. That's the best! And like you, I'd be fixing things fast knowing people were coming so you've got your motivation plan in place too. Well done!
I got washer repairs done yesterday and the carpet estimator came to measure. So my basement project is moving along. Just realized what an opportunity there will be to once again declutter that space and make it more useable. Feeling optimistic about that.
Setting a goal to pack at least one box down there today...

Well I had just about NO time at home last weekend (like, I slept there, that was it) so I've made no progress, and started the week without having made any lunches or done any groceries. Sigh.
I did manage to get some laundry done on Sunday morning. Haven't managed to put it away though. At least not even eating at home means I'm not creating dirty dishes!
And this weekend I'm going away - but I invited my sister to stay the night on Friday night, because she's going as well, so we can leave at the crack of dawn on Saturday together. And I have friends coming over for dessert on Sunday. So I have to fix my living space before then! I should have Thursday night, and I should have at least an hour tonight and tomorrow night after work and before I go out again, so I'm just going to have to start using that time to make a dent in the chaos. It's sooo much better than before, anyway, it actually shouldn't take too long.
And at least I've got several meals in the freezer, so dinners will be sorted in a second!
Just found out that I have a appt to have my taxes done on Friday. I keep everything in a large plastic envelope - so I just need to sort thru it and make sure I have everything.
It pays to be so organized with all my papers and stuff.....
I hope I get some money back.......

Did a little bit here and a little there work yesterday. I picked up all of my boots off the floor of the guest room and put them in the closet. I put the kitchen counters back in order and and picked up a few things in the living room. Nothing is still completely clean and its making me lose my motivation but I'm not giving up. I keep feeling like its a never ending battle. My sewing room project starts on Friday so I need to get all the rest of the little things down in the house so I can give it my full concentration.

Get well soon, Irene!
Toni, your basement is really going to come together. DH actually mentioned an equity loan this weekend, which is huge, since that will be the only way we get our basement finished. First I want to get a structural person to take a look at the walls, since it just feels to me like the house is slipping downhill toward the rapidly eroding creek. Also, we need to find and seal the holes the mice and snakes and lizards are using to get in. Anybody ever deal with those issues? I really don't know where to start.

Sorry you are sick, Irene and hope you are better real soon. Bed rest and one of those books might do the trick!

I had high hopes for the week ahead but now have a bad cold and cough. Have little energy but yesterday I did tackle a set of book shelves , I emptied each shelf, put books in order and put some aside to donate, I found a few I had which I want to read , so that was a bonus ,

Gave myself a lazy day yesterday and was rewarded with a burst of energy and productivity today. Did laundry (last load almost done), got the will paperwork almost ready to go to the attorney, started assembling tax paperwork, decluttered (partly in a frenzy to find one important piece of paper for taxes), and collected/bagged recycling. Time to get ready for Yoga for Winers!

finally got 3 of my 4 bathroom projects done..raised the mirror 2 inches up and 2 inches over, fixed the screws in the shutter that were lose, and then put that expanding insulation around the drain pipe..we've been procrastinating for months, made a list for the rest of the winter.
I was feeling low until I got the bathroom going, then cleaned the bathroom even behind the toilet..how does dust get behind there? Cleaned the toilet brush holder and the plunger caddy
measured new sewing area.. going to put sewing machine and items in the space and then figure out how I want to keep it all organized I'm feeling more organized...woohoo

Finally installed a deadbolt on my side garage door. I have had the package with the bolt for several months. So, it is in and works just fine.....but I need to get another strike plate, and some screws for the frame side................then it is all done. Whew - something else off my list - and off the washing machine where the package had been sitting for a looooooooooooong time. LOL

Toni, really glad you don't have mold after the flood!
Mylla, you are going great guns! Have you considered shelves that hang from the garage ceiling for your storage? At least the boxes would be off the floor and leave room for your car.
Got quite a bit done yesterday, but nowhere near the end of my to-do list: laundered towels and bed linens (including the mattress pad), took care of some administrative tasks, ran errands, paid bills, got the trash and recycling collected and to the curb, and did a teensy bit of decluttering.

Ordered basement carpet yesterday. They are coming to measure on Monday. Yay, progress. Then I will really have a big task ahead: putting everything back together in the basement. Really disorganized after a flood in late fall. No mold though, and no damage except carpet. We were lucky.

Haha, TORTISE110, I often think of things in that way! I got myself into the habit of making my bed each day by telling myself it was a present for myself when I got home - because I love the feeling of coming home and regardless of how messy everything else is, seeing a beautifully made bed. And yeah, now it's habit.
Last night I had a rare night off from all my commitments, but I didn't get home till 7 because I went via the gym and the shops. Then I spent the next two hours cooking a big batch of bolognese sauce (and now I have about six meals in the freezer - woohoo!) and while it was simmering, I attacked some of my mess. I put away a bunch of stuff that I'd already created homes for (like linen), started finding the rest of my stationery (file folders and stuff) and more worryingly, finding "in use" notes and "memories" boxes and sorting them in piles. Oh gosh, I have soo much to organise (and cull, although I shudder to even think that). And I happen to know there are still a bunch of similar boxes in my parents' garage!
Also, I collapsed a bunch of empty boxes, so the room is starting to look a lot better. I tried again to find a home for the Christmas boxes, but it's going to have to be the garage (moved one box down there on my way out this morning). I put a couple of other boxes away at the top of my wardrobe. They may not live there permanently, but they're out of the way for now. I also did all the washing up after I finished cooking - and there was HEAPS of it.
I'm going to be out most of the weekend, so I'm not sure how much progress I'll get to make.

What a great thing to do, Tortise! I regret memory things I got rid of when I was younger, and I wish I knew where a lot of things were today.
Got through some of my Pick 3 items yesterday but ran out of steam before cleaning up the kitchen. Will do that today, since DH is coming home tonight. Teleworking today, and laundry is humming in the background.

MYLLA_R, love the idea of leaving something for the FUTURE ME!!! Hilarious, and so fun. Thank you.
Going to tackle the box of my son's momentos/photos in my office today. I want to put it together in an organized way for him because I know he would toss these things now, and that they will mean something to him in the future. Things like his HS diploma, for example! I've raised him to be independent, in the moment and forward looking. Oops, forgot to teach him to savor memories...

So much great progress being made! I have had an insanely busy week so far, I have barely touched my GIGANTIC MESS. But I have kept on top of doing the dishes at least, and last night I created a box for the last of my Christmas stuff, since it didn't all fit in last year's boxes. (Then I tried to find somewhere to keep all the boxes, to no avail. I guess they will have to live in my garage.)
Also, this morning, I knocked my peg basket over, in the space between the washing machine and the wall. Sigh, how boring. I was going to leave them for Future Me to clean up, but managed to force myself to go back and pick them all up before I left for work. I've been pretty good about putting my stuff away at the end of each day, as well. Building good habits!
BRRRRRRR it is cold down here. We had lots of rain last night and there are cold winds blowing today............even though the sun is shining. I'll be staying inside today.....
I need to get off my duff and get a load of laundry going and pick up more of my sewing "stuff" that continually appears all over the house.

Nancy, congrats on getting the taxes done! We haven't even started.
Toni, you continue to amaze me with all you are getting done!
Finished the laundry last night but did little else except clean up the kitchen with DH before NCIS came on, halting all other activity.

Finally selected carpet for basement and am going to place the order today. Spent 10 minutes beginning to sort "stuff" in basement to get ready for carpet folks to measure. Down to two boxes of photos in my office on their way to the special table I have set aside for work on photos. My office is beginning to be inviting!!

I was going to pass on by, thinking I hadn't cleaned or organized anything so far this week, but then I REMEMBERED!!!!! I got the income taxes done, and the final rough draft looks ok, so waiting for DH to review then will e-file.

Mylla and Mandy, you need another long weekend to recover from the long weekend!
I didn't get as much done as I had hoped, but I DID go for that retail therapy. I have a trip coming up to hot areas, so I needed some light but modest (for Indonesia) clothes.

Like Celia, I come to this thread for inspiration and am never disappointed! Cooked dinner for friends we hadn't seen for a long time and felt organized about that because I caught up on a relationship I'd been too busy to prioritize. We had a great time.
Have some more office stuff to get on top of today. Moving more photos to my photo work space. I know that's going to feel great.

I felt so good today. I had worked on kitchen cabinets over the weekend. My house keeper was going to finish a few shelves for me. We worked on the area under the sink last week. Alas, much to our surprise, the pipe under the sink let go. Water went everywhere. We called the plumbers. i redid the sink storage a few minutes ago.

Oh, my goodness, what a weekend! I made a lot of progress, but basically what that looks like is a LOT of mess.
-Pulled ALL the boxes out of my spare room, plus the few boxes that were left in my bedroom, out into the living room.
-Worked out the layout of the spare room/study.
-Put all my books (and not any paperwork, photo albums etc) into the wardrobe in the study to be out of the way.
-Sorted ALL my stationery (well, except the paper etc, which I haven't quite found all of yet) and threw out a plastic bag FULL of broken pens etc)
-Went through a small set of drawers which contains hair stuff, makeup etc - mostly stuff I haven't touched in 10 years. Sorted, but not yet culled.
-Pulled all my plastic drawers out of my wardrobe and reorganised them to be most efficient.
-Unpacked the boxes of shoes and put them away.
-Rearranged my clothes into a logical order.
-Chose homes for a few things, like sleeping bags and carry bags, towels, and games, and put those things away.
-Found a better cupboard to house my wine glasses, and put them all away.
There might be more things, I've lost track. The mess is incredible. I've been taking before and after photos, and really they just look like a bunch of worsening "before" photos - but really, there's progress! And I feel like it's getting manageable. I might post the photos on my blog if I have time today.
Plus, I got a Mahjong set for the birthday before last (16 months ago), and it's stored in this beautiful box which is not exactly the right size for it. I've been meaning to put foam or something into the box so it can be packed in such that the pieces don't shift around when you pick up the box. This weekend, finally, I did it!
Plus, I did laundry and a ridiculous amount of washing up (been trying to do that daily, regardless of how few dishes there are, because otherwise it suddenly gets out of control).
I got so much done today! Loads of laundry (bad pun intended), bathroom, freezer cleaned and organized, fridge wiped out. Not to mention meals planned and groceries bought. Feels good.
~Mandy~ I'll make it to the moon, if I have to crawl.

Came here for inspiration and am not disappointed!
Spent the weekend at a yoga retreat where the most we had to do was tidy up our couples yoga space at the end of each session. Came home and unpacked everything right away...felt good! Today, I'm working on the laundry and will go out for some retail therapy before a doctor appointment and my regular yoga class.

Still excited about having dived in to my photo project. I have been putting it off for a LONG time. Cooking dinner for friends tonight and am looking forward to setting a pretty table and preparing some healthy food as well. Essay is done and off for feedback.

Did all my "big" grocery shopping for the big things that last for ages....I had run out of several things. I got all the stuff put away in the proper containers in the pantry and the fridge. Found in just 1 day - more papers and stuff had accumulated and I got rid of that stuff. I'm off to Home Depot to get some things I need for my yardwork.....feels like spring is here and I want to start getting the yard fixed up and thinking about what veggies I want to plant. At least I feel organized.....

ALSO got some new tennis, so purged the closet, ridding to Goodwill what is not working any more ............... and a bag to boot! ............ Getting clothes ready for the week and menu plan is made ............ NOT cleaning, but made a huge pot of veggie soup and froze some for Friday when we are both too tired to cook ................... Utilizing ways to save time and energy. Have a good week all .................. 2B

Photo workspace defined. Just a small step... Got all involved with essay I have been working on and enjoyed the focus. The most organized thing I did was do the laundry!

cleaned book shelves in den today, sorted more paper work. Yesterday when I was at my daughters taking care of my granddaughter, I cleaned two shelves of her refrigerator because a sweet pickle bottle had been knocked over and all the juice had been spilt. She really appreciated it.
