We are looking after our granddaughter, 5 mths, but my husband continues to sort through all of his scouting things, and has taken several loads of things to donate this week.

Me too, Travelbug!

Today I took down the rest of the Christmas decorations (and put a few in the donate pile). We also took the trash (a huge load!) and I washed my Christmas bedspread to put it away.

Oh, and I put away all the laundry I did yesterday. Whew!

Irene, I can identify with your "safe place" dilemma. I, too, have a problem finding things I have put in a safe place. I like your solution to the problem.

I am getting back to organizing my bedroom. After my son and granddaughter leave for home, I will attack my kitchen cupboards of which there are many. I am excited about getting my house downsized, simplified and organized.

With MIL still with us, I have not been doing much. We love having her visit, but I'll still be glad to get my house (and TV) back ;-)

Hit my pantry shelves and boy did they need it! Made cup cakes from almost expired box and then tossed them. Silly, I guess, but no one wanted to eat cake! Made a decision not to buy a mix ahead of time again. So waste, but wisdom too! Lol

I feel pleased I have made a good start on organising a shelf unit in the small bedroom ,I have out things in boxes, I have labelled them ! But I still lose things , I get so annoyed with myself when I can not find an item which I have put in a safe place! I shall have to make a designated safe place! Or write down where I put things , it's temporary placing I mean !
Best wishes for New Year.

I took my old tree to the road today, and someone picked it up within a few hours :)

Then my mom and I took down our family tree. We had been storing a box full of ornament boxes, so we took the time to put their ornaments in their correct boxes. Now we have one less box to store, and we threw out a bunch of ornament boxes that we no longer had the ornaments to. AND we purged a few ornaments.

I also did my laundry, so I'm tired! All the trips I made up and down the stairs gave my legs a good workout :D

Tee hee, Knuckles! My dishwasher was out of town for a few days, so MIL and I split the duty. Laundry about 3/4 done, the kitchen is tidy, and the dining room table is partially preset for dinner. I do need to declutter a surface or two and check the bill basket, being so close to the end of the month.

we are playing "catch up" with dishes, since the dishwasher wasn't working for a couple of days. My goal for today is the fold and put up laundry, clean up the flat surfaces in my office (it is amazing how fast I clutter them up).

Reading this string is so inspiring. Thank you, Team. I hit the refrigerator and freezer yesterday and now we can find things! I organized what was left of holiday clutter and also threw out a few things with those surprising expire dates. Pickles that bit the dust last summer: who knew?!!! Clear that no one eats many pickles in this house. LOL

Meanwhile I found two ham hocks in the freezer that I will make soup out of this week AND free one heck of a lot of freezer space. Who besides me buys ham hocks on a whim? You'd think I live on a homestead instead of in a city!

Put up another plastic storm window today, worked on another window latch, shoveled sidewalks and cleared off the car. Then I made the linings for a set of drapes. Made the fabric for the tabs of a set of tab curtains. I should be ready to begin sewing the curtains tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.

Today I took down my two personal Christmas trees and vacuumed. The older tree is falling apart (losing needles and the lights don't work anymore), so I'm taking it to the curb tomorrow. Normally I'd replace it now while there are trees on clearance, but I'm moving this summer... so it will be easier in the long run just to buy one next year in my new place.

Happy Saturday - Today I am going to my final Holiday Party - Sooooo many parties this
year (caused me to overeat way too much).

I look forward to next week when I can get things back in order, my exercise classes start again (after the holiday break) and back to my regular eating....

Today I mowed the lawns and raked up lots of leaves from my yard, and my neighbor's yard (my tree).

House is back in order after Christmas. Am using vacation time to sew new drapes for the windows in the living room. Made the sheers, hung the rods and put up plastic storm windows yesterday. Today I hope to sew the curtains themselves. I have the fabric prewashed and draped over the back of the sofa.

I have this great plan to sort my entire house out and make a register where everythin is... the thing I need to remember is to write that register as I progress because if I don΄t I will have nothing if the project fails before its comleted. So far I did a closet that was crammed with "handy" things and now I know exactly what is in there and yesterday I did one shelf in my big closet... and I do wonder why I keep about 30 timers...

a couple years ago when our last child moved out we cleaned out asll the rooms upstairs and to do so we put boxes and boxes of things in the extra bathroom. My husband has been helping me this week to sort through all of that stuff and decide what to get rid of and what to keep and where to put it.

He has also started going through all of his Scouting things and deciding the same, and sorting them out. I have wanted him to do that for quite a while. Very much needed to be done. And quite helpful

Still not doing much beyond keeping up with daily cleaning (and that's not much). I did get the recycling collected and to the curb...two overflowing bins, because DH "forgot" his promise to take it out last week. My back is complaining. Also washed the towels yesterday. Nothing really planned for today except throwing together an overnight kit to take to the hotel. MIL and I will stay over after the champagne dinner, which DH has to miss due to work.

I m using these few free days between 2 holidays to sort out my craft stocks, just bought new bright files plus punched plastic pockets to go on files, I have made a start on putting cross stitch charts in some kind of order to go in files. I m enjoying this and feel spending a bit of time now will save much more time spent searching for a particular type of chart.
Best wishes to all. Irene emoticon

I haven't stored any decorations, yet. In fact, when I got up before dawn to start teleworking, I plugged in the tree, since I can see it from my desk. We decorate simply, so taking things down won't be a big deal. We'll probably take the tree down before Jan. 6 this year, because we have some travel planned.

With MIL here and work/long commute yesterday, I didn't do much but dishes. Today, I'll toss in a load of towels later. I did empty food-laden gift baskets for the SparkCoach daily challenge and discovered a second layer of fruit at the bottom of one. We will try to salvage the poor, over-ripe pears.

Saved some holiday boxes to pack up the decorations. Putting my holiday doll display away today. Old vintage dolls....really pretty. They live in a showcase though, so I don't have to say good bye! But their holiday sleigh is getting stowed. It's fun to play a little at holiday time.

Here's a new one... I cleaned out my eyeball collection! emoticon Yes, I actually collect things with eyeballs on them. (No, they aren't real eyeballs!) I'm moving next summer, so I purged the duplicate collectibles and packed up what I was keeping.

I'm working on cleaning my home office/TV room out, deep cleaning as I go, and packing what can already be packed. I have lots of collectibles, my teaching books, and my hoard of craft supplies all in that room, so it's a big job... I'm doing one small area a day. One annoyance though is that it takes me a while to actually move the purged stuff out of the room: I have one pile of donations to take to the thrift store/Goodwill, and another pile of stuff to sell on eBay. For the rest of this week, I need to work on just getting that stuff out of the house.

I can't wait to get all the decorations put away.
I really want to get the lights down off the house - every time I go out,
I see several more places have burned out.
I'm going to throw the "dead" strands in the trash......

I have most of the house cleaned up - the dishwasher is running....
I still need to do laundry and run the vacuum.

Sending cookies to my husband's office and putting away a single decoration a day for a week. I keep our tree up until December 6, but I'm going to pace my "packing up," so it's easy and organized. Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

I cleaned up all after my small family celebration last night and now I'm packing up all the
cookies and sweets to take to the BIG BIG family party to day.
I don't need all those sweets in my house - too dangerous for me.

I always look forward to the clean up after Christmas. As much as I love the festive and "fullness" of Christmas abundance, I also love the sparer look when it all comes down. But today there won't be much organizing going on!

LOL - I got a laugh out of Ree's comment about not being able to find things that she put away for the cleaners.....I have done that so many times.
Now I have a big basket and put everything into is and put it in the garage - so I know all
the bills, papers, important stuff I had out - is all in that basket.

Merry Christmas to all of you - we have had a great year of friendship and organizing haven't we?????

I cleaned up a pile of wrapping paper after the cats finished playing with it.

Christmas Eve, and all I've done so far is the dishes from brunch. When DH and MIL go out in a bit, I will get off my duff and get moving. Need to wash towels today and declutter the little spots that have picked up junk (I think the junk fairy comes at night and dumps stuff).

I have 2 cleaners come here every two weeks , they work well together and know what to do now. I trust them so can go out if I want to then come home to a sparkling clean home .i do not expect them to put things away , so it's made me more organised . On cleaners day I go round tidying up all my clutter. Ideally everything would be in its rightful place ,but. Sometimes I quickly stuff things out if sight . Then waste time later wondering where did I put so and so.?

Happy Christmas Ree emoticon

Looking forward to un-stuffing my fridge tonight. It is completely stocked with food for tonight's holiday dinner (for 13) at our house. Have a wonderful holiday, organized sparkers!

I hired a Rug Doctor and cleaned my carpets. They have come up really fresh and though they are still a little damp and smell of wet wool, the clean carpet lifts the whole place. I have put a Christmas aromatherapy mix on the oil burner and thelace is beginning to smell like the season.

Years (decades) ago, when we lived in Bermuda, I had a lovely little Bermudian lady come in once a week and clean my house for $15. She even cleaned windows. We still exchange Christmas cards. I know someone today would charge much more than that! I like the once a month idea.

I like the concept of having a professional cleaner come in, but like Carol, I don't feel comfortable having strangers in with the place a mess. I tell myself they won't be judgmental, but the brief time I did have help years (decades) ago, the woman actually was a bit judgmental.

Anyway, focused on fitness today, and the only cleaning was laundry.

I love your ideas to have a cleaning lady come once a month ..........
( I however, with my idiosyncrasies, would probably light into the place before she came!! emoticon

My husband is a wonderful helper for me in the kitchen. I keep up with the laundry. I have gotten the main parts of the house clean for my kids and their families coming for Christmas dinner and the gifts exchange tomorrow. My grandson is almost three this year, and it will be such fun to have Christmas gifts with him.

I like your idea of hiring a cleaning lady for once a month, and starting in January, I think that I will do that. I think that it is worth it.

I'm with knuckles - I have someone come once a month and she cleans until everything sparkles and I just have to keep up with the daily stuff. I'm retired - much lower income,
and I still won't give her up emoticon

I've thought about hiring a cleaning lady, but I never get my house clean enough that I'd invite a stranger in to look at it. I'm getting there, though. Now that I'm retired, I'm working on one area at a time. Once it's all clean, I might get some help to keep it that way. I don't think cleaning ladies tackle kitchen cabinets and linen closets, but maybe she could vacuum and clean the toilets.

I got a lot of "junk" put away....it is stuff that usually lands on the Kitchen counters, or the
dining area table as I pass through.......tough habit to break.

But it is clear for now...

Math, while Carol is deep cleaning my cabinets, I invite you to work on my cooktop.

Another day of getting little more than the dishes done. It may be quiet in the office, but it is busy. Add to that the even longer commutes because of all the accidents. Seems that more people who don't normally drive during rush hour are out on the road, making life miserable for the rest of the rush-hour commuters.

Apparently I caught the kitchen cleaning bug today. I was planning on starting working on the kitchen after the holidays. Earlier, I asked my husband to clean up the mess he left on the stovetop. He said something about the cooked-on stains being impossible to remove and I took it as a challenge. LOL I spayed some strong cleanser on one of the burner pans to demonstrate that it could be cleaned. Once I got that one done, however, it looked so good that I kept going. Three and a half hours later, I had taken the range apar, thoroughly cleaned it and put it back together. I'm a little embarrassed that it had gotten that bad! I can guarantee that won't happen again now that I've worked so hard on it!
