Yesterday I got those splice pieces installed and used three tubes of calk sealing the edges of trims to the walls to get rid of any out of plumb gaps.

Today I did a 30 minute pickup and floor sweep as I put the room back together. Did two loads of laundry. Went to work for two hours to get prepped for the week to come. Ran the dishwasher. Am making steak, peppers and onions for dinner. A very nice relaxed day that was also productive.

Did a 40 minute "muck out." Then installed shoeplate in the living room. It has been cut for about a month. Finally got it installed so I won't have to look at it stashed along one of the walls any more.

My hope is to install two short splices in the crown molding and work on several nails that didn't go in properly in the initial install. Then I can start puttying the nailheads. Also hope to get some laundry done and carry trash out to the can.

Celia I always push too hard. You would think I would exercise but I hate it. It is a dirty word to me so I hide it in other things like yard work. Organized exercise is torture. We do have a lot to do but feel we are actually getting somewhere on the houses. Sounds like you got a lot done. I love getting a lot of things marked off my list!

ANNA WOW! I wish I were as close to being organized as you are! The photo thing is one of those things we all need to do and seems to be the last we tackle. Civil War stuff? I love that era. Have fun doing windows. My 100 year old home has 25 windows!

LHLADY you sound busy with technical stuff.

CBRINKLEY way to go. Planning your compost. You should have some good soil.

LQUEST I bet it feels good to be prepared for the school year. Plus now you can enjoy your organization time at home.

Today I weeded two houses and helped mow four yards. Not organizing but working toward goals.

Have a great weekend all.

Stayed after school and got classroom organized for Tuesday AND wrote personal goals for the year to turn in by deadline today. Then I assembled a substitute folder for the office which was also due today. As a special education teacher it takes a bit of extra time to put a sub folder together. Now I will not receive any email to remind me to do either of those tasks.

Completing those tasks will give me the whole weekend to clean, organize and work on my home remodel project at home!

Took 2 days but I cleaned out the compost bin (has to be done twice a year). Now I have 30 gallons of compost to spread around my plants, and plenty of room for the fall garden scraps.

Today, I did grocery shopping, then we prepared (and I still have more to do on this) for the forecasted heavy rain. I am continuing the work on my laptop. Today, I'm trying to get some of the videos burned onto DVD's so I can clean them out.

Kitchen is completely deep cleaned, purged, organized, and I have just a few cosmetic things left to do.

All the closets are in good shape. I cleaned the walk-in closet in the den and completely organized it and purged a lot of stuff.

I organized all the "stuff" we cannot toss and put it all neatly in Banker Boxes. I have all of the pictures together and my next project is scanning and purging a lot of them. I may have some professionally scanned in case I ever want physical copies. Then I will put a few of them in albums and some photo storage boxes that I have. I am not planning on buying anything more for storing them.

DH has been tasked to go through some of his Civil War books and papers and when we finishes I will box up what he wants to keep.

When this project is finished, I will be well-organized throughout the house and the next task will be Fall Cleaning with Window Washing. Sounds like fun, right?

Knuckles, I hope the pain is gone today. Like Diana, I often work to the point of pain and beyond instead of listening to my body. Glad you are listening to yours.

Diana, you deserve that vacation! It's hard to imagine how much is left for you to do even after all the hard work you've put in.

I felt better yesterday and managed to clean out some e-mails, tidy up the kitchen, collect and bag recycling, and declutter the mess around the coffee table.

Celia yoga sounds interesting. Iím glad to hear you feel better after doing the inversion. Sometimes I only do one thing a day. Iíve been known to do nothing on occasion. If you need a break from the to do list there is probably a reason.

Knuckles I hope you feel better soon. As I age I find I have aches and pains and need to take breaks. I usually work until I hurt. Not the brightest tack in the drawer!

Today we worked on our newest house. We hauled off trash, took items to charity and cut the nasty rugs out and hauled them away. We also picked up boards that were left in the yard. It was a fruitful day.

Tomorrow I think we will be tearing down a ceiling in another house and hauling the sheetrock away. Canít wait for vacation on Sunday.

Diana, glad you could sit back and relax with DH! You've been going great guns for a long time now.

I had an off day yesterday, feeling blue. Although I spent a few minutes cleaning out some work e-mail, I didn't get to anything else, not the bills, not the pile of papers and mags that fell off the coffee table, not even the dishes.

About the only thing I did was a little mail triage, and I set up and tried the inversion device we got from Gaiam. My yoga studio has one, but there's never enough time to ask an instructor for help, so we got our own. I found I needed a folding chair to start my feet from, but I made it up to vertical on my shoulders! Due to arthritis in my neck, I won't do head stands, so shoulder stands will be my only inversion. And it was amazing that my neck pain actually lessened after the inversion!

Celia how great your DH helped make the hummus! It is fun to cook together. Thatís much better than decluttering! Also if you get even one small thing done some days you are lucky!
TRAVELBUG I bet you are enjoying your vacation. You sure get around!

CBrinkley good job on the garage sale. You got a lot done and helped the kids out. I have started to go through my emails and make folders so that if I havenít the time to look at BHG or whatever I plop it in the folder and look when I have the time. Kind of like having the trash can near the mail!

LH I hope your computer works better now. We really rely on the darned things now! No sharp words after that long in my house would be a miracle. LOL

Yogagirl I figure if you are improving your house it falls under decluttering!

Ree going through photos is very time consuming. Iím sure you will be identifying all those in the photos for the next generation? I know there are many that can go in my house too. I remember when the kids were little and they had a package deal and you got about 100 small photos! I have given a set to the kids and got rid of the rest. It is hard to throw them away but in this day and age you can scan them into the computer. I like an old photo though. Something more personal about it.

Today I cleaned the area near my stove in the corner that ends up with clutter from buying in bulk or my DH puts his tools. I bought a temporary (since we are remodeling) $15 shelf and had him put it together and we stacked the Kleenex, TP and Paper towels on it. I had him put them together and help me organize the area. Now I donít have to step around things to get to the stove. I also have been packing about 2 dozen canning jars that I had throughout the kitchen. Funny how when you get busy doing something like remodeling you donít pay attention to other things. I couldnít believe how much room I had after I boxed the jars. I guess they came from us emptying jelly jars for the past two years!
Well off to watch a movie with DH.

Today: I moved and cleaned under the desk area for the laptop, moved the dresser from downstairs to up--it didn't work where I wanted to put it but with a couple of other moves, it's now set and ready to receive my crochet projects.

I hear you. I am thinking about getting one of those scanners advertised on an infomercial that you run through and it organizes it by type and category then I could throw most paper away except for warranties. Anyone know about those, are they worth it? Maybe it would be one more item to add to my clutter.

Virtual clutter and the paper monster...you all have been great at these tasks, and they remain tough chores for me. In tackling virtual clutter, I'm lucky if I set aside a few minutes to delete some e-mails. Hard for me to imagine devoting hours to cleaning out old files (I mean, honestly, that PowerPoint briefing from six years ago on a now defunct project?)

As for paper, nothing sends me running away screaming faster than the paper monster.

Yesterday was my long day, and I set a few office tasks in my Pick 3 that I didn't get to. However, I did get a project organized. At home, I decluttered a table, tidied the kitchen, and got the trash collected and out.

LHLADY - you cleaned out your computer! Virtual clutter is as mentally draining as physical clutter, and takes just as long to sort through and clear out. Getting rid of the things on your computer that you don't need frees up memory and makes your computer run faster and more efficiently. I'd say that counts for a lot!!
I've been trying to reduce the amount of emails in my inbox. Lots there that I just haven't dealt with yet or sorted. Over 200 in fact. It used to be over 600, and I get about 200 more emails a day, so if I don't keep at it, it quickly piles up and adds a big weight on my mind. Would like to get below 200, then reduce that amount by 25 a day until I get below 100 once again and hopefully this time keep it that way, but it is very time consuming as I can't just delete most of it. And that doesn't even take into account my old mail, nor the other folders I have sorted email into that also need to be cleared out.

Today was spent trying to get the laptop computer to work. For some time now, it would no longer allow me to access it through our network. DH decided today was the day to fix it. In addition to that, he also used what he considers the best uninstaller there is out there. So we cleaned out things from computer I no longer need or want. It took from 10 this morning until almost 4 to get everything done. Needless to say, not much else got accomplished. However, even with all the frustrations that occurred, we didn't even exchange a single (or more) sharp words. So for now, laptop is working, supper is finished and the day is almost over.

Had a garage sale, mainly so daughter and son could get clear out some of the things they no longer need/duplicates, now that one is married and the other will be in 5 weeks. Gave them some extra money as well to go towards paying off a school loan/honeymoon.
Dropped off what I could at local charity organizations that benefit needy residents and the women's shelter. Posted the rest on Freecycle for whoever was interested to come and take away for free (including the hangers we had been saving for the clothes).
Recycled the newspapers we had saved to wrap everything in, as well as the now-empty boxes.
Now that it is over, I got caught up on all my laundry and am working on tackling the pile of papers waiting to be sorted/dealt with.

Yesterday I did all my yard work (front and back) mowed, raked, trimmed, watered, and all that fun stuff.
It will have to take care of itself while I'm on vacation.

I'm almost packed - I have a list, but seem to get sidetracked a lot.
I should have finished yesterday..............ha ha
I leave very very early tomorrow AM.

Irene, good for you! Right behind my paperwork monster lurks boxes of unsorted photos as yet another source of stress and clutter.

I've been down on myself this morning because I felt I did nothing and ate everything this weekend. Then I started thinking that, while some parts were less-than-stellar, I did get the laundry done, cleaned up the kitchen, and set up my backpack for the new week. Not a lot, but not a total waste.

Have been busy starting a new school year so didn't post on this thread. Today I did two loads of laundry from start to finish, planned math for the week, picked up a lot of misc. items, etc. I will be filing a couple months of receipts and paying end of the month bills. I think that will do it!

Tiling works for me Yogagirl. Anything that makes you happier about your home is good.

Still being a bit lazy, but the last two weekends were jammed with decluttering, so it feels good to have a weekend off to enjoy DH's company before he takes off on a trip this afternoon. Maybe I'll feel a little more energetic after that. So far today, I have the laundry on autopilot and have cleaned up the kitchen and collected the recycling.

LH, I wish we had kept up our composting efforts. Good for you!

Travelbug, hope you have a great vacay. Same to you Diana!

Mandy, praying for your DH to find work, but I have to say I admire you for starting yours young learning how to contribute to the family. My mother did that, and it was a constant issue in my marriage after stepdaughter came to live with us. She could not be bothered to help, and as much as I tried, DH gave me no support. Her moving away was the greatest gift.

Today was not a day to clean, except to clean up the messes we made as we experimented with recipes. I loved Chef Meg's hummus blog this week, so DH and I decided to recreate the edamame hummus we had at the Hilton Hawaiian Village last fall. The chef was too busy (and maybe a bit reluctant) to part with the recipe, so he told the server the ingredients. Using Chef Meg's recipes as a start, we guessed at the proportions and came up with an acceptable hummus that we can improve upon (I think the chef may have left out an ingredient or two, so we added what we thought it needed). Anyway, it was our first hummus experiment, so we'll be trying again (and again, probably). Tonight we made a soup that starts with a rice/lentil/spice mix that we picked up on vacay, and we teamed that up with a salad and small rosemary roll. Decluttering can wait a day.

Travelbug we are supposed to go to MO and see the Cardinals game this week. Weíll be staying in Branson. We plan to see some shows and take walks. Swimming or kayaking may happen but Iím not thrilled about that. We are beginning our quest to see all MLB fields. I plan to buy a tshirt locally and make a quilt when we are through seeing them all. Have fun on your trip.

Mandy I hope your DH finds work soon. It can be stressful living with others. Sounds like you are doing a lot of work and being a good houseguest. Teaching children to clean up is great!

LHLADY thank you for all your support.

Today we changed all we planned to do and did very little. Guess after this week we needed a break. I did get off 25 letters for my Dadís birthday party and went to get milk, bread and eggs. Made dinner and took a nap. I guess Iíll work hard tomorrow.

cleaned the toliet down stairs and the sink and swiffered the bathroom floor and kitchen floor. I made laundry soap and started to wash all the towles they are now all dry folded and put away. my step daughter and her friend spent a week so their clothes are now in the dryer my oldest step son and youngest step son put their clothes in the machine together cause you know how boys will live in the same clothes for days if you let them. so step daughter and step son both need their blankets washed. they both asked me to wash them. I told them just put them in the machine after your loads are done with and I'll set it but your washing them.
we clean up after our selfs so there never really is much mess. other then my 5 year old who decided to eat at the table after I cleaned the kitchen floor last night and left her noodles all over the floor. uggg. made her clean it up never to young to start learning and pitching in especially at the independant stage where she's willing to help I'll take what I can get.
that's what we did this saturday. not much but something is better then nothing. oh and the dish washer is loaded and started. one more small load to put in the dish washer after it's unloaded again we all take turns.
the area we got to work on before school starts is mine and hubbys bedrom. were staying with friends so we have to get it together. two of my step kids go to their mothers on sunday until the weekend after school starts. then my oldest step son 18 goes back to his aunts as he lives there. then after tuesday it's just my daughter hubby myself the couple we live with and their daughter and we all clean up after our selfs. hubby is awful in the bedroom about cleaning. I have to moviate him to do his fair share he will organize it then trash it then organize it again it's a cycle. I can't seem to break him out of it. he's the toughest. so I got to tackle this issue before we get our own place. he's been looking for work and is depressed from not being able to find work. so I know it will change once he starts to get to working again. then he's not home to make messes lol

I need to get busy and pick up the house. I'm also in the process of packing for vacation, that is always so stressful for me..........don't know why.
I think that I will be forgetting something. But I know that what I forget, I can buy another one
where I travel (sometimes a nice souvenir??? ha ha)

Sorry I have been gone since Sunday. I was in Texas all week. I managed to buy some things I needed for the house. We helped my MIL to unclog a drain, buy some batteries she needed and help my DD with a crisis.

I'm home now and hoping to get back to normal.

Yesterday, after the donation bags went on the truck, I did two loads of laundry. Last night I cleaned up the kitchen.

Today: vacuumed main level and broke the wheel off the vacuum. (DH has made an attempt to fix it, we'll know tomorrow if it is fixed). shredded papers--overheated shredder, 2 loads of laundry, 1 still on line, the other put away.

Last night, I finished logging and bagging donation items...or so I thought. This morning I remembered a very heavy bag I pulled from a closet and forgot to bring downstairs, so DH graciously carted it down for me. On top was a favorite LL Bean winter parka that I had long ago outgrown (in girth). Tried it on this morning and it fit perfectly! Didn't give that away. The rest of the bag contained shoes stepdaughter left behind. I bagged what I thought was still in good enough shape and tossed the rest. Then...drum roll...11 bags of items we no longer use or need went out the door to the Vietnam Veterans of America truck. In Flylady terms, we are blessing others with our abundance.

Yesterday I almost finished logging and bagging items for Thursday's donation pick-up. Now just walking around looking for stray items to fill up the 10th and last bag (unless DH comes down with another load). The cat should be afraid...very afraid.

Today is a mixed bag for me. I've already done 90min. of hot yoga, planned my menu for the week, and got groceries from four different places. (My mom always just went to one grocery store. That just doesn't seem possible for me since DH is vegan, DS and I are wheat free, and DS is also dairy free.) I've got lunch on the go, and I'm about to do a 15min. tidy and laundry.

I have to do some gardening yet today, and hopefully take DS' violin somewhere to have it tuned, so he can continue practicing. Oh, I also need to bake muffins, but that may happen tomorrow. I'm so glad I have two days off in a row this week. emoticon

Okay, this is a BIG one! DS is currently on a cruise with his GF and her family. I told him before he starts college next week, he needs to clean out his room and we were going to move some furniture and make it more "young adult" rather than HS. Anyway, he only got partially through cleaning it out before he left, SO...(you see where I am going with this?) DH and I EMPTIED his entire room! Yes, we were able to move the furniture and DH is going to paint it this week. We are planning to have everything done by the end of the week before DS comes home. He will either be grateful or angry at us for doing it!! But it really, really needed it!!!

Yesterday I finished cleaning out my end table by tackling the book shelf underneath. I'm still so amazed by the transformation of this little corner. Now that my drawer is not stuffed with clutter, it actually opens and closes just fine. I always found it sticky, so I just left it open all the time. I guess it was just sticky with crap. Now that the drawer is closed, I can actually access the book shelf underneath. I always found it so inaccessible before. It was a place to put books to die. Now it's useful.

I received a new, well old, dresser from my Aunt Edie yesterday, and cleaned it out. We think it's going in the boys closet, but it may end up in the living room to hold puzzles. I also got a large end table with a shelf. It's in the hall now filled with overflow pantry items that were sitting in cardboard boxes on the floor of the hallway. My entryway is a real challenge, but this has made a big improvement, and I now finally have a launchpad for items for the day. Yea!

We also spent the day retrieving my car with the flat tire, and playing Carcassone with the boy. It was a very full day.

Go, Becca, corner that evil paper monster! LQuest, I love doing Flylady tasks...makes the work more like a game, doesn't it? Knuckles, I need to load my CDs, too.

Yesterday, I finished out the day sweeping/mopping the kitchen floor, cleaning out the pantry floor (it was gross...mouse got into the cat food), cleaning and refilling the hummingbird feeders, balancing checkbooks, taking care of an HOA task, clearing the last of the "big" clothes out of my dresser, bagging/logging items for donation, scheduling donation pick-up, and cleaning up the kitchen. Whew!

I rebooted the laundry, did a 27 fling, watered the outdoor plants and went to school. There I was able to print and copy work for the majority of the first week. I wanted to get done on the copier before the rush tomorrow when everyone is in! Getting ready to clean my purse and to write some checks before students arrive at school Tuesday. Also plan to work on my living room project for a few minutes.

As I read through the posts, I have to say I'm envious of those of you who have successfully tamed the paper monster. Paperwork is my worst nightmare. I can scrub the filthiest toilets; just don't ask me to organize my papers. But organize I must. It WILL become a goal. For now, I have plenty to keep me busy.

So far today, I've finished about half the laundry, fed the birds, prepared new hummingbird nectar, vacuumed the rugs in the workout area to get the rug cleaner from yesterday up, vacuumed the stairs, gone through two Mr. Clean erasers getting scuff marks off walls, cleaned toilets, swept/mopped the master bath floor, and done some minor decluttering.

I had some work done in my kitchen. The countertops were resurfaced and a new sink was installed. So I have been deep cleaning everything. Moved the appliances and cleaned under and behind them and also cleaned them inside and out. I removed everything from the cabinets, purged, reorganized, and cleaned the cabinets inside and out. I have most of the work done but still have a few things that I will get done soon

We are having a community yard sale the first Saturday in October so beginning today I am going to go through things and put some things aside for the sale. While I am doing that I will clean, purge, and reorganize.

One of my goals for this year was to do my filing regularly. In the past I just put it all in a drawer and did the filing after I organized all the tax return stuff in January. I do have a very small stack of filing that I am going to do the minute I finish here at SP. It is nice to know that I can find things because they are filed.

I am continuing to clean and organize my front room and my den. There is so much paperwork to attend to! I've done a lot, but need to do a lot more. However, I am pleased to say that it is a lot more organized and cleaner.

I just got a cross cut shredder to help me with the final push.

After I do these two rooms, I need to finish a back bedroom, and then start the front bedroom. The front bedroom is overwhelming, but my whole house used to be overwhelming.

Then I'll do the garage-whew! But I am getting stuff done finally!

Didn't really clean and organize anything today! It was great. Took my 83 year old Mom and went to the movies and shopping. I did make pictoral schedules for several of my students who are nonreaders. it makes the year easier for them.
