Love the title of this post and the creativity to write about your victory!

I, too, tackled the closets this summer. With a major bed and bathroom remodel, absolutely everything in the bedrooms closets (three), the three beds, and four dressers had to be removed so that the rooms were empty. We moved a door, enclosed a small porch to make a walk-in closet, covered old, ugly ceiling tiles with sheet rock, replaced the old, worn out and broken carpet, wall paper, toilet, shower, faucet, sink, vanity cabinet and lighting. The entire spaces are totally transformed.

But I still had boxes of clothes, many of which I had not worn in many years! While it all came out, it is not all going back in. Most is already sorted with many boxes already gone to the Thrift and Consignment Stores. As a side note, I got $150 at the consignment store last year, and that much so far this year.

I have more sorting to go as I return items to their old and new places. The question becomes how many turtlenecks do I need? I counted 60, but sometimes I wear three at once when it gets really cold. How about swim suits? I love to swim, but have not done it in a year! Sandals? Shoes? Socks? Scarves? Keep the best, toss the rest. Some of all of it has to go.

Best to you organizers.

Madeline, it's easy to declutter when you have no choice! Much harder when you have to make the decision yourself. I must admit it was embarrassing to see the amount of clothes I had! So glad to donate them to people who will need them.

I just did the same to my closet, but not by choice! On opening my closet one morning a month ago, I found that one of the racks had pulled loose from the wall and fallen. What a mess! I had to get all the hang up clothes off that rack and into another room, plus clean the floor of my closet so my husband could fix it. By the time I finished moving my clothes (which was only half the clothes in the closet) I realized I had way too many clothes.

I filled five bags of clothes that were two or more sizes too small for me (I haven't fit into those clothes in over 10 years!) and donated them. I decided that when I get back down to those sizes I will need newer clothes. My closet looks so much better now, and I have room to comfortably hang up my clothes without cramming them in like I had to do before.

Totally stealing this, because it is the best description yet I've seen for my closet. I can't do it all at once, so I'm using this month to concentrate on it. Did a little this morning, and it looks a teensy bit better.

Well done, I bet you feel great for having achieved that. It's frightening how clutter builds up isn't it. Thanks for sharing in such an amusing way - now makes me think I should attack a few areas myself!

You made my day.. (with a laugh!).. and have inspired me to face my own 'demon' space. All other 'to do' items are off my list for tomorrow.. I will persevere!

Armed with a broom, duster, and jumbo trashbag, I descended into the sprawling cave that once resembled a simple closet, but now resembled a clothing massacre. Clouds of dust puffed underfoot, wrappers of many breeds were multiplying like rabbits under mildewing towels, and something green was growing in the bottom of my vase. But I remained stalwart, cleaning mercilessly.

Three trash bags, two give-away bags, and one hundred sneezes later, my clothes were hung, my college stockpile was stacked, and my shoes were aligned. The floor was not only visible, I could WALK on it.

Victory was mine.
