I agree with Flylady at flylady.net She has wonderful ideas. She does talk alot about how wonderful her tools are: Many of them are good, but you don't have to buy anything ini order to use the system. Just use what you have.
I also like what Karrie said, and I have found it to be true. One thing I learned early on was to fix my bed: it is a lrge piece in the room, and if it's messy the whole room looks messy. I also like a sold cover, as one with many patterns just makes the place look overcrowded, especially if there's plenty of clutter already.
For clothes, what I do with my children is ask them: Do you like it? Does it fit? Will you wear it?
If the answer to any of those three questions is no, I get rid of it, by passing it to the next child or by giving it away usually. I do the same thing with my husband and myself, giving me leeway for pregnancies, etc. This has helped keep the clothes down, which in turn keeps the laundry down.
