I totally agree with you MFLEETING, it is all about what you can afford. We bought all our game systems on sale and in different years so it wasn't as much of a hit to the pocket book.

We have both an Xbox with Kinect and Wii. Both the Kinect and Wii take their hits of being left behind for a point of time but in the end they both get used about the same. The kids love the Kinect for certain games and so do we but our rooms are not kinect friendly so its hard for sometimes even 2 people to play together. The Wii gets used a lot on family game nights by playing mario party or something similar. The kids and my husband even enjoy the wii playing time wasting games when they are bored (like mario kart or smash brothers). They use the xbox for their more intense longer games. If a family has to choose one over the other I would agree Xbox with Kinect would be the best way to go. But they both serve a good purpose and are worth buying if a family can have both.

That's a good tip Dawnfire...my room could use more light. I will see if that makes a difference!

I find that getting adequate lighting for the Xbox to recognize me on the Kinect is difficult at times. If your face is not well lit and visible you will "disappear" on the game. I am going to see if having my tree down now helps because for most of December my Kinect hasn't been playing nice. I may have to get another floor lamp and find a spot for it so the 4 corners of the room are lit up not just 3.

Forgot to mention don't wear black as workout gear. The lighter colours you wear the better the Kinect seems to behave.

We have PS2, Wii and now the Xbox with Kinect. Although I do enjoy the ability to play with no controller, I find that navigating the menus on the Kinect is not as simple as on the Wii. Sometimes I just turn the whole system off to start all over. Through reading other posts, I see that voice command may be helpful and I figured out how to use the main button on the controller too...hopefully it gets easier, lol.

I mainly wanted to upgrade to Xbox because I found that the Wii was often inaccurate in tracking movements on the dancing games...but sometimes I feel the Xbox is off a little too. I'm not sure if the room is not big enough or what but sometimes it will add random ppl to the game or if you're playing you mysteriously disappear. Not sure what that's all about either. So right now I'm not fully enjoying the Kinect but am willing to reserve judgment for a few weeks until I master the system. Hopefully I can get this wonderful experience that I hear from others.

I love the Kinect. Have to agree with my big sister, the little sister has the Wii for her boy and I have to say the Kinect is better. You move around more. She is even thinking of getting the Kinect this year.

Well we have both and I like them both. I do enjoy the Kinect and not having to hold the controller. I use on Kinect Dance Central 1 and I just got Dance Central 2 and have not even opened it yet been busy busy. I also recently got Your Shape Fitness Evolved and have just entered basic information so far. I feel I should have waited for the newer one on that. When my son is here we do the sports one together and I also enjoy the Adventures one a lot. He is getting Sports 2 for Christmas. Now for Wii I use the Dance Central 1 and 2, Wii Fit Plus, and I just got Zumba 2 for it tonight. I accidentally ordered 1 from Amazon so I returned it I wanted the newer one with updated music and such. My son recently moved to dad's and took his Wii so I just bought me one online on Thanksgiving and it arrived yesterday. I had a water leak in my kitchen and bathroom so between maintenance being in here and the mess I just tonight set it all up. I plan to try it out. I like having both systems and different type games. I chose to buy the Wii because I already had these games I love and nothing to play it on and the newer Zumba is only out for Wii right now. I am sure as much as I love Zumba I will purchase the new one for Kinect when it comes out in a couple of months. The Zumba has the belt so it is still hands free and I really do not mind holding the controller just to use the different games. Mario and Nintendo and I go way back. I got Super Mario with my Wii so I am excited to even play that. My goal is to buy different type games for each system based on my needs and ratings.

My daughter loves the Wii, but the Kinect-capability of our Xbox and the right choice of games has really sparked her interest in that system.

Still, having both is definitely the way to go. ;-)

I admit I am a bit of a console hog as we have all 3 major systems (Wii, PS3 and XBox360). Personally each system is great for what they are. For fitness games the Kinect is defiantly the better system. As far as child or family friendlier games I still say Nintendo is better right now for games that use controllers. I also find that unless you have a LARGE area to play the XBox is strictly one player at a time for the Kinect. I did notice that they have a new sensor for the Kinect that is supposed to fix this problem but really you need a dedicated clutter free room for maximum enjoyment. For what it's worth we also have the "Move" for the PS3 not a great investment in my opinion PS3 is still for the serious gamer who wants lots of action and likes the controller.

I have hardly used our wii since hubby bought the Kinect. I like the no controllers freedom. I also notice that I am more into it. Its seems easier to stay dedicated to use the Kinect vs wii.

@Arntbebe that is awesome that you gave away your wii to someone who could and is willing to use it.....I applaud you and just might do that same

I think your article is spot on. All the additional add-ons is what has kept us from adding to our Wii collection. I think the Wii is great for what it is - a gaming device for the infrequent user, user with a specific purpose or as an alternate device for watching movies. However, we will continue to be Xbox users. After experiencing their support desk in action, we couldn't be happier with the device or the continued support they offer to create a positive gaming experience for all involved.

My experience was exactly the same as -SHE-WOLF- I even shake my head when I see commericals for the wii. I don't know why anyone would chose to be restricted by a controller (or two). I boxed up all of my wii stuff (over $1000 worth) and gave it away to a guy I work with when he told me that his wife was saving up for wii fit. I'd much rather they use it than let it collect dust n my house.

I started off with the Wii with EA Active Sports and thought it was amazing, i was really happy with it. Hubby has always had Xbox360 and decided to get the kinect when it came out, secretly he bought it for me because he knew how much i enjoyed the Wii for fitness.

Have to say as soon as i started using the Kinect i have never looked back, apart from the obvious, no controls, i found that i could also use free weights..ect. It is soooo much better and a lot easier to use, also, you can not cheat with the kinect as it uses your scanned body and if you slack off it lets you know..lol LOVE IT!!!

I have both and when we use the Kinect a lot more, but I still love my Wii for certain games. I love many on the strictly Nintendo games. I do not see us every getting rid of it. I will admit though that when people consider buying a new system I recommend the Kinect because the movement games are a blast.

We have a Wii and we really liked it. I have EA Active 2, the Wii Fit board and several other games. I especially liked playing Wii Sports and Mario Kart. Then we got the Kinect (*wow*). Now the Wii sits and collects dust. Which is really sad considering that for the longest time we only had *one* Kinect game (Dance Central).

I've tried both, my sister has a Wii for her kids. We tried it out at Christmas the year she got it and we are totally Kinect people.

hahaha, you might just be right Tema! Here is the article: wp.me/p1PZ0u-5T

A lot of people have been thinking about getting the Wii because they think it is cheaper and more family friendly. I don't think that is true and I explain why in the article.
