This thread is me trying to drum up some traffic on another caregiver team,
SUPPORTING CAREGIVERS OF MENTAL ILLNESS SUFFERERS.
My ol' Sweetie has Borderline Personality Disorder, which cause problems from the get-go and lead to our divorce after less than a year of marriage, back 30 years ago.
I have a lot of anger at the mental heath field that diagnosed him and then refused to treat him properly or even tell me what on earth Borderline is (I'd never heard of it before).
I had to do all the work myself, educate myself all by myself, figure out what to do all by myself.
Now this man is old and sick and getting into dementia. Once again it's really up to me to do the doing, and figure out what is going on.
I hope there are people who will be able to benefit from both teams.
My husband has vascular dementia resulting from a stroke. That's not technically a mental illness. I myself suffer from depression, which wasn't helped by becoming a caregiver. Between us, we do have one mental illness :-)
Sorry, Mom had dementia but not mental illness. Unless alcoholism is a mental illness.
No one ever got up in the morning wishing she'd eaten more the night before.
Original Goal: 114. Current old lady goal: 106.
We have dementia secondary to lack of oxygen in circulation in the blood to the brain. No actual diagnosis of mental illness.

Hey! Is there anyone here who is a caregiver to someone with a mental illness? There's a Spark Team for us:
SUPPORTING CAREGIVERS OF MENTAL ILLNESS SUFFERERS
Right now there are only two of us there who are posting. This little group needs more active members.
I'm a caregiver to a sick old man who also has Borderline Personality Disorder. Surely there must be other caregivers who take care of someone with not only elder issues, health issues, but also mental illnesses as well.
Are you out there?
Will you join us?
