What a glorious spectacle is that of the labor of man upon the earth! It includes everything in it that is glorious. Look around and tell me what you see, that is worth seeing, that is not the work of your hands and the hands of your fellow, — the multitude of all ages.

Today my son attended services with me and then I took him out to the western part of the county to visit his "crazy" girlfriend.

From there I traveled up the road and went to visit my sister who lives about an 1:15 minutes away. She was showing me all the clothes she was taking on the trip and I felt like my wardrobe was sparse compared to hers. But no matter, I can wear many of the evening things twice or just go to the buffet on the nights I don't feel like dressing up. I think I have more than enough and probably will never get to wear some of those dresses more than twice if I don't wear them on the ship twice. I am not a "dress" or "dressy" person. Pants and a top are more my style.

DS has "moved" out technically, but is sticking around for the holiday tomorrow. It's not like he has anyplace to go tomorrow , it being a holiday. But I will not be BBQ-ing as we can't have grills in the condos (fire hazard). Told my friend to come over tomorrow night for shrimp. Now, what will I make with them? It will have to be low calorie.

Have a nice holiday!

Knowledge, in truth, is the great sun in the firmament. Life and power are scattered with its beams.
Daniel Webster,

Good morning, Another hot one, two dogs need walked and my feet are killing me.

Yes Duke was DD's dog, but when she relived how much I was doing with the dog and saying I just didn't have the time to give Duke what he needs and wants, she said that she didn't realized she wasn't being the doggy parent Duke needed and decided that I was right he needed someone that could spend more time with him.

God be thanked for books. They are the voices of the distant and the dead, and make us heirs of the spiritual life of past ages
William Ellery Channing

Good morning. Yesterday I took Duke to the vet. His appt was at 1:30, we didn't see the vet till 3 and gt out at 3:30 That is why I prefer morning appt, but right after I got there a lady came in with a yorkypoo puppy she didn't think was very sick, but her grandchildren thought should go to the vet and as I left I heard them tell her the puppy had come though surgery fine and was in recovery. If it saved the children their puppy I have no problems.

Duke did fine. There where times he sat so close to me he felt like he was trying to push into my body. He made me proud. he walked up to people, sat down in front of them and waited for them to hold out their hand before going up to them. No jumping.

DH is afraid of Duke and has begged me to get rid of him. I do have a problem with 2 big dogs, so I told the vet I needed to find him a new home. She said he was the kind of dog lab rescue loved and got me in touch with 2. Lab rescue was glad Duke was neutered, had all his shots, was on heart worm meds and I had him in a safe, if not ideal place. I can't let him in the house. They said prospective owner would love that he was learning to walk on a leash, he still pulls some, but knows beside me, ok it isn't heal but that is what I learned, and knows the basic doggy manners.

Good morning:
The end of the month already? Well, even though we had a very pleasant summer with only one 90's-100's hot spell in July the summer just seems to have slipped by.

I donated blood yesterday then ended up at the mall. I never got past JC Penney's because they had a sale. Got a bathing suit for $3.74. Everything was marked way down to sell.

I will have to spend some time there walking in AC comfort today. Am supposed to go to KC Prime tonight with an acquaintance. Gotta watch the calorie intake. Have no plans whatsoever for the holiday weekend. No a very social person, am I?

“Real courage is when you know youre licked before you begin, but you begin anyway.”

Good morning, Yesterday I gave up and told my DH I needed to go to Best Buy. DH loves Best Buy and took me right away. My new phone is made by Samsung and Samsung has a store in Best Buy. The said when the phone company moved my info from the from the old phone to the new phone they only half did their job, and that is why I couldn't do the things I want to do or find the thinks I was looking for.

I'm Duke to the vet this afternoon. The 1st I give Mutt his heart worm meds and got to thinking, I don't know when Duke got his. I called and he should have had his the 26th, but she was out of his meds, had an appt for the 28th, but was moving and didn't take him. She said he was to get his 1 year shots then. She didn't know where she had packed his records, and couldn't even remember the name of the clinic.

More progress is made by attacking problems than by attacking people.
Harry Scholefield

Good morning. I woke with all kinds of plans for the day, walking the dogs, Duke needs a bath he is a muddy mess. Then they went down the drain. My feet are killing me and I don't want to move.

I talked to DS last night. Beka was already in bed, but I asked him how she was doing. He said that his wife keeps asking her if she wants to call me and Beka get all emotional and runs out of the room. He said Beka might not be answering my letters but even if it is just a post card, she gets all excited. DS says he is seeing some of the things I had spoken about and he just couldn't under stand. One is she has no attachment to things, does't take care of things and thinks nothing about leaving them. He said they are moving to a larger apt, and said she thinks you move by just throwing a bunch of stuff in the car and if it got lost or left behind you just got another. She doesn't understand packing at all and her mother moved her often.

I took my phone in yesterday. They said my phone was working fine at the time, but what I was describing was the beginning of the end. They said it might completely die in a week or so and might hang on for 6 months, but wouldn't be reliable.I get off work at 11P and have to drive country roads with no street lights home and there aren't even any pay phones. I wouldn't feel safe. I wanted another stupid phone, but I had a choice between a flip phone and a smart phone. I can't text my son on a flip phone so got a smart phone and spent an hour trying to figure out how to make a call on the stupid thing. I will admit that when I figured out how to text my son it was easier. One of the ladies at work said she wanted to get a phone so her middle school son could call her after football practice and didn't even have the option of a flip phone, They kept telling her they could sell her the data plan so her son could get the full befit of a smart phone.

I'm going to have to use that "stupid phone" phrase, MA. My contract runs out Sept 3 and I think I will just let it ride until I leave on the 12th, then cancel service while away. Ditto while away in SA. I think January will be a fine time to phone shop.

We have been having gentle showers here all morning...just enough to keep me off the bike.

Tonight I am going to see GWTW. Read the book earlier this summer...but I know that the movie leaves a lot of things out...like Scarlett's sister, her children by first and second marriages, lots of characters as well as events.

Good morning, Last night my phone went nuts. First it wouldn't turn on. I took the battery out to reset it thinking it needed rebooted. It turned on and seamed to be fine, so I put it on my pocket and took the dogs for a walk. I heard it clicking while I was walking, but when I called DH it worked. This morning it said my memory was full. I checked my pictures and there where 30 some pictures of the inside of my pocket. I'm taking my phone into T-Mobile today. I think I know what they will tell me. They have been telling me for years that I need to update. I kept telling them "it works why do I need to update" well I guess I need to get a new phone. They still won't be that happy. I want a phone that rings, you answer it. I need to be able to text the teen age grandchildren, they don't know how to talk on a phone. That's it. A stupid phone is fine, I don't need or want a smart one.

Last night while I was walking DH called and said the power went out and would i check with the neighbors to see if everyone had no power or if it was us. It was about 8. I checked around and no one had power. I was told someone ran into a power pole and it would be 10:30 before the power came on. The temps were still in the 90's, I was out walking, since we have a well no water for a shower and I wanted to go to bed early. The power didn't come on till 11:30 and I was asleep in my chair.

Got in some gardening, dog walking and a bike ride before going to the Free Library of Philadelphia to see the Jerry Pinckney biogtaphy exhibit and then to the Perelmann Center of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see the Pickney art exhibit. So I am slowly but surely learning to incoprpoate more activity into my life, even when it requires getting up early.

Tomorrow I have to pick up son from work, at 2 pm so that will cut into my day. Maybe I can find a place nearby where I can get in a bike ride.

Good morning. I'm off today, but work tomorrow so trying to get up and get something done. Last night we had a mess in customer service. Yesterday was the first day of school and last night I had all the parents returning school supplies they thought they needed, but really they got the wrong thing. I saw that when I had a buggy full to go back on the floor and rolled it to the front of CS to be picked up the parents were all gathered around it to see if I had what they needed, so I started rolling half full buggies out of CS where they could go though the buggies and not block CS. Management doesn't want me to roll them out till 8 but when the bank next door closed at 6, I started rolling them out in front of the bank. I guess management saw what was happening because no one complained.

Mutt shades but is a short haired dog.

Fur management is the name of the game at my house. Shiba sheds copious amounts everyday, so keeping her off of the furniture and especially out of the living room is a must. She has the run of the rest of the house but the LR is off base unless we have guests and she is tolerated/welcomed by the guests. My sister, who has an aversion to dogs (she was bit by a dog when little and had to get rabies shots) is beginning (at age 72) to tolerate dogs. She liked my old Lab Atticus because he was so gentle, but his size scared her. She welcomes her niece's dog and Shiba now. I think she has finally figured out that there are sweet docile/gentle dogs like Shiba and mean SOB's.

Blessings to you for caring for the Chalice children. That must surely be a fun job. When i have volunteered in RE it has been with the school age children who are to say the lest, entitled and precocious. Maybe I should try the nursery. Right now the RE director is looking for volunteers but I will be gone all of the fall season with just two weeks at home between trips, so I have not volunteered, but perhaps I should do this come January. Thank you for the idea Mary Alice.

Good morning, no walks yet today it is RAINING, yes there is wet stuff coming out of the sky.

Last night was a first for me. A lady came into the store to pick up a $2,000 money order. I called a manager to get the money, didn't have that much in my register, and went over her paper work while I was waiting. 2 red flags that this was a scam went up, but they weren't biggies. Then just before the manager got there there was a really big one and there was no way I could legally give her the money without a whole lot of paper work and 2 forms of ID. I sure didn't want to be the one to tell this lady I couldn't give her the money without the ID and was glad to see the manager. When the lady saw me talking to the manager, she grabbed the paper work and took off. The manager said I made a good catch, but was glad she took off and we didn't have to file reports with the government. I've had to explain to people that if they are receiving large amounts of money I need two forms of ID, and I have questioned people about who they are sending large amounts of money to, but this is the first one that said scam all over it and it wasn't from one of the countries I'm suppose to look out for, it was from Tenn.

Mutt is almost 6, he has never jumped on the furniture. He just doesn't jump. If I put a laundry basket in the doorway, he will stop and wait for me to move it. Well he figured out he can climb into my recliner. I got up one morning and my recliner was warm. The next night I got up during the night and Mutt was in the recliner. He just looked at me as if to ask if i was mad at him. I was surprised to see him there. Mutt was the only explanation to who had been in the recliner, but he had never do it before. DH isn't happy about that, but I told him it is the only piece of furniture he gets on, it is mine, Mutt only gets on it at night and I don't care. If Mutt decides to get in DH recliner I'll do something about it. Yes we have special chairs. DH has CP and has problems getting up and down. When we go shopping he has to try and get in and out of everything. When we get home any piece of furniture he could get in and out of easy is his and no one else uses it.

When I can go to church, I help in either the nursery or Chalice Children, 3 and 4 year olds. The Chalice Children teacher said it was too bad I had to work yesterday. Yesterday was blessing of the animals and they had more pets then children in Chalice Children. she could have used me.

Went to UU today, always refreshing and informative.

This afternoon I will be heading out to the lake with my bike for the 6 mile trip around the lake.I would love to kayak but I just added up all the money I put on my charge card this past month and I have got to find some free activities!

Glad you found someone to dog sit. When we lived in town DH house sat and that often involved taking care of dogs, but because of his CP he couldn't walk them. He started with a few people at church and it grew from there. Most of the people that hired him simple wanted him to show up at different times everyday and stay for an hour or so, so anyone casing the neighborhood would never know when someone would be coming by.

I took Shiba over to a new acquaintance's house who had offered to dog sit while I am away. She has two huge Bernese Mountain Dogs. Shiba wasn't scared of them (they are both friendly) but I think she was spooked by the cat. (She only saw one, there are five of them) But she should not be spooked by cats, because Shiba Inu's are the most cat-like of the canine species. Anyway the lady has a nice yard, she walks her dogs daily and is a real animal lover so I would feel better with her taking care of her than depending on my son or his friend Gary who have very bachelor habits when it comes to carousing and sleeping. I am almost sure that she will be caring for the dog rather than my son or Gary.

Good morning. I go in at 11 this morning so I'm watching the clock. I know it is early but changing when I go in messes with my routine and I loss all track of time.

Duke did well enough last night that I walked him for 30 min. He still has problems with other dogs weather they are loss or behind fences, but he is still a puppy and has never been around other dogs before.

Good Morning:

I was up early today. Had a bowl of fruit for breakfast to keep the weight loss going. I really want to have shed 10 lbs before I leave for this cruise. I plan on processing laundry today, and hopefully gettting in a bike ride or two before it rains.

Do not condemn self. Condemning of self is as much of an error as condemning others.

Good morning.

Good morning America is on and they are interviewing a boy band from England. They asked besides missing your family what is the hardest thing to get get use to in the US. The portion size, we haven't figured out how to eat that much.

Thanks to all that made suggestions on getting Duke to eat. I combined several, filled his food bowl 1/2 way with water and poured his kibble in. He dives in and eats every bit. DH says it is because he loves water so much. I think maybe he just doesn't like dry kibble. Either way he is eating. Mutt eats his kibble then empties the water bowl. Maybe kibble and water go together.

The book was suggesting that you ask questions and then answer them with something you can do easily and you feel comfortable with. The question would be different for each of us and if some how we asked the same question each of us would have a different answer.

Yes, an apple in the purse is well worth its weight in gold when it comes to weight loss. But other fruits are just as good. The trick is to carry healthy, no fat, snack foods that are filling. A pear in your purse is gonna be a candidate for the trashcan, and yuck, the mess if it gets mushy.

I took Shiba for a long walk (for her) this morning. I find when I take different routes she determines when to turn around and head for home or the car...I don't have to pull her.

A true life must be simple in all its elements…Simplicity in taste, in appetite, in habits of life, with a corresponding indifference to worldly honors and aggrandizement, is the natural result of the predominance of a divine and unselfish idea
Horace Greeley

Good morning, We had a quick shower. Duke has learned to deal with Mutt without getting nasty and Mutt runs to the door to come in if Duke gets to frisky. I have to stay close and keep an eye on them but can let the dogs out together more.

I walked the dogs together last night. It wasn't a long walk for 1 Mutt walked on my left and Duke on my right so I couldn't use a staff and for 2 we walked at night when the dogs were tired. The night sounds and smells where too much Duke, he wanted to go home.

I'm reading a book about fitness tips. Fitness being all the things it takes to be fit. Most of what they have to say I've read here. One ting I read that made sense that I haven't read before is to ask questions to come up with goals. They are your questions and your answers. an example is how can I change my diet to eat healthy without giving up everything. Answer I can eat an apple for my afternoon snack. OK small, but easy to stick to, will get you on the right track and give you the motivation to take the next step.

Does Duke drink, I had to get a stainless steel tub for his water bowl. he thinks you stand with your front feet in the water bowl and stick your head in to your eye balls. His favorite game is catch the water when I'm watering, so I squirt him or off to another part of the yard. He will face the water with his mouth open till he gages if I let him.

Walgreen's has this neat program in which you can earn balance rewards points by walking or bike riding , running, etc. There is a nifty map router so it can mark the exact mileage, so I know exactly the mileage (as I don't have an odometer on the bike). The points can be used toward $ off of items you buy at Walgreens. It is strictly an honor system, but at least I get a real reward and not a virtual one when I track with Walgreens as opposed to Spark.

I bought a pair of comfy walking sandals for my trip, a sort of silver bronze color that I think will coordinate with most of the things I want to take on the cruise. (I wore out the ones I bought last year for the trip out west). Most days we will be in some port or another, but on those we will be at sea there is a pool, gymnasium, and walking around the deck program (I'll take my pedometer) to keep up with the mileage.

It will be hard resisting the temptation of the food, that I am sure will be excellent, minding my portions, and limiting the wine. I hope I come home healthier than when I leave.

Good Morning. I'm off today. I'm worn out and in pain so am having problems getting started.

Mutt maybe having problems with Duke and water, but Duke can't understand Mutt having to walk the fence line checking every inch, And with us having 3/4 acre fenced, Mutt has a lot of fence to check. Duke just wants him to run.

Dogs, especially those to whom the "exchange" vacation for a week or two process has not been explained (with visits to your house to prepare him to become familiar with the territory) may suffer, eat less while grieving the "family" and wondering what is happening to them. It will take a while for Duke to adjust, and right when he does, he'll be back home. I wouldn't worry about it unless he just refuses to eat. The heat could be affecting him, too. Dogs are smarter than humans and know not to eat alot in the heat. Is Duke drinking water?

Would you believe that when I got copies of my passport made last week I left the passport in the copy machine at Staples? When I called to see if they had it (and they did) I got on my bike to run over there and retrieve it.

Coming home I jammed the gears and now I have a bike problem. Got to go out and see what I can do to rearrange the chain on the gear.

Son had a seizure at work today and I had to go and pick him up. He is stressed right now, and that brings on more frequent seizures. I am not sure how I can help him without enabling him.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

Good Morning. Another hot one. Mutt and I have already been for a walk. I worked till 11:30 last night and go in at noon today. I became enough of a B---- that they aren't doing work till 11 one night and go in at 7 the next morning.

Duke has developed a fondness for walks. When I walk Duke, Mutt stands at the fence wanting to come along. I took Mutt for a walk and as we passed the fence saw Duke at the fence wondering why he was left at home. I'm off tomorrow and will try walking them together.

Question, Duke isn't eating right, just a few bites. A 75 pound dog is eating less then a cup of dry kibbles a day. He was a backyard dog in the with city, keep behind a privacy fence with no contact with other dogs, limited human contact. Now he lives in the country with a chain link fence, goes for several walks a day, gets pets, and has a doggy friend. I know he is going though shock, but when should I get worried about him. Duke is a little over weight, seams happy and has no signs of illness. Duke had been fed a store brand food, so that is what I got him so I wouldn't change his food while he is adjusting. I feed Mutt one of the better name brands.

That Duke is one smart dog, figuring out how to stay cool in Texas.

Today I met the "grandmother' of my little dog. She owns a very ritzy dress shop and she helped me select two pieces for my cruise. I will probably never wear the dress anywhere else, ever again, but it was the perfect dress to go with my mother's beaded collar. And where else would I wear that but on a cruise? It is one of those drop dead pieces that mother was known for and I inherited it. It was too beautiful to donate to the thrift shop, but I have never worn it and she's been gone six years.

Anyhow, we talked "dog" talk for a while and I learned a little more about the past life of my dog and why she doesn't play or do anything. I hope that while I am away and she is in the care of friends with dogs, that she will learn some good dog behaviors and maybe how to play and interact with other dogs.

Came home from shopping at 4 pm and was famished. Ate a salad to tide me over until dinner tonight.

It takes two to speak the truth — one to speak, and another to hear.
Henry David Thoreau

Good morning, Walking and caring for 2 big dogs is taking a big bit out of my day. I'm getting plenty of exercise, but strength is out unless you count the first 2 min of Dukes walk. Mutt never played with toys, but I thought Duke might like some, so I got a few different toys. He picked out a small yellow squeaky toy. He carried it around, didn't chew it, pull it apart, just carried it. A couple times he closed his jaw enough so the toy squeaked, he dropped the toy, licked the toy like he was upset he hurt it, then picked the toy up and carried it around some more.

Mutt and Duke have been playing chase. Duke chases Mutt then Mutt chases Duke. It surprised me but when Duke stopped, worn out and needing a spray to cool off, Mutt was hardly panting. Duke is showing he is a city slicker. No cows, horses, roosters or peacocks. I haven't tried walking the dogs together. Duke still gets stubborn. Both dogs had problems with a little 6 pound mutt with big bat ears. Like most little dogs he came running out at the dogs, but when I let the dogs turn around the little dog didn't want to met a big dog, but unlike most of the time, this little dog came running right back.

Mutt still has a problem with Duke and water. I have gone to a stainless steel tub for Dukes water. Mutt wants to know why Duke needs to put both front feet in the water bowl and stick his face in to his eyes. I will say that being able to water him sure helps is cooling him off.

Good morning. It is pretty nice out. Life has changed with Duke around. I get up and walk Mutt since I can't put him in the back yard.

Mutt may think Duke has outstayed his welcome. but Duke isn't helping his cause. Duke is only 1 and a big puppy. Mutt is 5 and never has been much of a player. Yesterday it looked like Mutt was trying to tell Duke to take a chill pill. It was funny, Mutt doesn't like water so I had the hose when I let the dogs run. The Mutt started getting a little rough, I turned the hose on him. Mutt ran off and Duke started jumping and bitting the water. I had turn it to spray because he would let the water squirt straight in his mouth till he started chocking on the water and even then he didn't want to stop, Mutt couldn't understand all this excitement at all. I was able to get some energy out of him.

Last night was a mess, the customers kept coming, fine thats what we do. The baskets to be sorted kept coming and no one was sorting them. Yes we have the totes and if you bring up a basket you are to sort it out. I told one of the managers I wanted to be out of there by midnight because I bad to be back at 11 this morning. She stayed had helped me so we wee out of there at 11:30.

I think dogs are easiest to train when you have them as puppies. Mine I got at 10 years and she is having a difficult time training me.

“You can't keep blaming yourself. Just blame yourself once, and move on.”

- Homer Simpson

Good morning, I survived yesterday. I loved having the boys, but was glad to see their mother. Tony was still on the floor playing with trains, but Alex was falling over things, screaming at the top of his lungs every time he fell. Then when I would pick him up scream for mommy.

I took Duke for a walk last night. It should have been a 5 min walk. I don't know how long it was but we walked in a zig zag and turned around a lot to keep him from pulling. I wasn't happy with the walk at all, but after it was over I thought about it. He was't really all that bad. I'm pretty fussy about how a dog walks with me. They walk be side me, close enough I can feel there body. He is a 75 pound 1 year old that has never been on a leash and there were frogs every where that he thought needed chased. So it wasn't the best time to start training.

This morning I saw the halti I got Mutt when I was training him. It was too big for him and I couldn't get it to fit him right so went and got a gentle leader. I put the halti on Duke and it fit great. Duke fought it about 30 sec and we walked about 5 min with little problem then Duke saw a cat. Good start. Now for jumping. Duke put his paws on my shoulders this morning. DH wants to help me with Duke, DH has CP and falls easy so there is no way I want him getting near a dog that jumps like that.

Frustration is not having anyone to blame but yourself.
Alice Thinks Sometimes Maybe Perhaps

Good morning, It is almost lunch time and this is the first time I could sit down. DD called and asked me to take the boys for the day. Just fine except that Tony is 4 and Alex is 1 and it has been a long time since I baby proofed my house.

DD got her with the two boys and a 75 pound dog. I tied Duke in the front yard, put Mutt in the back yard, settled Tony with the train set and took Alex to give Duke water. Duke say Alex, lunged, broke his lead, Alex took off running, before I could grab him he stepped in the pond, well over his head, followed by a dog.

Now Mutt is in his crate, Duke is in the back yard, Tony has train tracks all over the living room, and Alex is doing curls with my 2 pound weights.

Duke has no idea how to walk on a leash and I don't know how up to working a lunging 75 pound dog I am. I'm thinking about putting a harness on him, letting him pull Mutts scooter till he tires and then working with him. The scooter is meant for the dog to pull it. Mutt never would, maybe I'm riding with Duke. No regular exercise yet.

The habit of charitable judgment of others is a source of personal blessedness.
Francis Greenwood Peabody,

Good morning, It started raining about 9 last night, was raining went I went to bed, not when i got up, but started again about 9:30 this morning. Good thing Mutt and I got a short walk while DH fixed breakfast.

DD's land lord gave her 30 days to move, no reason except she was tired of being a land lord. She found an apt, but they had a 30 pound weight limit on dogs and she has a 75 pound lab. Guess who spent the morning getting ready for a new room mate. The problem is Mutt. The last time I took Duke while DD went on vacation, Mutt thought it was great to have a room mate, then after a couple days decided Duke had out stayed his welcome. So I'm setting things up so the dogs can see and smell each other but are separated till I can feel good about them being together.

Went for a massage early this morning.

Then swept and washed (three times) the entryway, laundry room, kithen, bathroom and diningroom. My dog leaves so much hair that everyday sweeping is a necessity, but scrubbing, rinsing and bleaching is not something I do everyday. I keep a gate across the entrance to the livingroom so that I can keep the hair-loss to a minimum there. I do not want guests to have to breathe or sit in dog hair.

Tonight is the last of my Landmark seminar courses. Usually I ride the train into town and that cuts into my dinner hour. Sometimes I just pick up a salad for dinner as that is the easiest and least caloric choices I have. Then, too, the walking (all aerobic) from the station to the school and visa versa helps a lot with the weight loss.

It has been unseasonably cool here today. Think I'll bring some wood in for the fireplace (LOL).

I'll look into that book. I just completed Keep me Ghosted. An easy read romance a man, a woman, 2 exs and 2 ghost.

Went to WW this morning, down 2.8 lbs for the week. When I got the bike rack I got serious.
Now it appears Shiba has a growth on her underbelly. A visit to the vet$ is warranted.

Got a lot of cleaning up to do around the house...getting things in boxes and baskets where they belong. Also must do some filing and paperwork...it never ends.

I would rather sit back and eat bon bons and watch a video!

Reading a fun book right now, "Dairy Queen" about a girl who lives on a farm in Wisconsin and who is totally into football. Normally I would not choose a book like this, (I know next to zilch about football) but this one is written in the first person venacular and quite alluring.

When Rianha was 3, I went to visit her. She didn't know me and like most 3 year olds wanted nothing to do with me. I got down on the floor and just lay there. After a bit she got a book and sat down beside me. I looked over and she had a book so big I surprised a little girl could carry it. I went to turn the book over so I could see what it was, when her mother said "if you start that book, she will never let you stop, she knows all the poem and better not skip a word. I turned the book over It was the Children's Garden of Verse. I hadn't seen that book in years. Mom says she got so tired of me reciting the poems when I was growing up. You could just see her little brain work as she tried to find one I couldn't recite. Very few pictures.

Hello:

Have 347 chores to do today, most of which will never get done. But it is good to have chores that will keep me motivated.

This weekend I found another box of children's books in Spanish that I intend to take to Cartagena with me in October. Not all are appropriate for 1 to 5 year-olds, who have the attention span of a toaster oven. So I will have to sort through these and just pack the simple books with lots of briight pictures, night time chores.

I gave notice to my son David and his friend Gary who has been living with us (rent free) since February that I will be closing up the house come October, and want them in their own places by then.

David has found a house to share that is less than a half-mile from here. He will be 34 this week, and although I know he still has problems with the epilepsy, it is time that he was on his own again and has plans to take care of that aspect of his life. That, and his love life with the crazy woman who was climbing up on the roof and knocking on the neighbor's doors at 1:30 in the morning is a liability I am not willing to participate in.

I will have to find a bording kennel/ dog sitter for Shiba, but there is a friend of a friend who does that and so I may be introducing Shiba to her and her dogs sooner than later.

Today Shiba was walking llike a zombie when I took her out for a walk. She may be ill, or still tired. When she came to the weed that she loves to eat I just let her feed. Animals have a better sense about what is good for them than humans have.

Holy Spirit, Peace divine!

Good morning. it rain enough yesterday to make a steam bath. The heat is getting to my body My weight is going up and down 5 pounds a day. I've checked my salt intake not there. Then I remembered hot muddy summers do this to me, so not worrying about the scales for the next 2 months. I'll just do what I should and worry about the scales some other time. When I see that my weekly weight has gone way up, I weigh myself everyday to see if that is a real weight or is it something else.

Last night I was on a belted register for several hours. One of the customers commented on it being tax free weekend and all the school supplies and how it must be effecting my job. I told her scanning was scanning. She looked at my pendent and said no wonder you feel like that.

Just laying low. . I have two Dr appts this week, one routine eye exam and another with a rheumatologist who I guess will be looking for signs of arthtitus. Since I had the massage a few weeks ago the back pain has disappeared, so I am thinking do I really want to see the rheumatologist and pay the copay for a specialist when I don't have any aches or pains. I think the massage therapist is worth two appts with a rheumatologist.

My cousin brought me lots of corm and tomatoes last week and I am still eating them. Had a juicy BLT this afternoon that was delish.

Large weather we're having.

Went to a non-exixtant street fair today and ended up shopping for some things to take on the cruise. My sister is expecting me to "dress" for the dinner seating each night. I am not a "dress" or "dressy" person, so I came home with some gauzy tops and two long dresses (the only kind I'll wear). I have some other long dresses and a "formal" pantsuit (if it still fits) that will get a workout. Now what do I wear on land tours? If I could lose some more weight (it's going very slowly at WW) I might fit into some older clothes that still lurk and dare me to lose that are in my closet.

Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you want and let the food fight it out inside.
Mark Twain

Good morning. It is thundering outside and there is no heat advisory in effect. The weather man says maybe 1/4 inch of rain with overcast skies a good part of the day. I'll take it. When they showed the radar I saw there was a counter clockwise swirl to the clouds. Hurricane is from the 1st of June till the 1st of November, but 80% of hurricanes, at least in this area, are in August and September.

In the larger city with its varied interests, one event rapidly chases the other. Life-boats are stranded on the shores of time, pitiful wrecks of humanity are dashed amid the rocks and reefs of existence. Old faces disappear and new ones take their places and the stream of life ever hurries on to empty where death’s waters meet.
Frances Ellen Watkins Harper

Good morning. I've been told we won't brake 100 today, but still no rain in sight. The wether man is real optimistic, he says our best bet is a hurricane. Not something I'm wishing for.

Believe it or not, there are places that use dog fur to make things like coin purses. Mostly they do it for people that save their dogs hair and after the dog passes on make the purses to remember the dog. real short hair can't be used and the loner the hair the better it works.

MA: When computers do the scheduling you get screw-ups; when humans do it you get screwed.

My little shiba inu is the strangest dog. She only goes out by necessity twice a day. All other times I have to coax, cajole and bribe her to go outside. Most dogs wait at the door with the leash in their mouths...nose prints on the storm door are their contributions to the art world. My dog does little besides grow fur all day. If only there were a market for it! As a matter of fact dog hair has become a condiment in my house.

Which brings me to my next thought, I will have to sweep up before my cousin comes for dinner tonight. (Not that he would see or mind the dog fur). Recently I learned that if I point the floor fan toward the back wall the air currents will cause the dog hair to form little dust "doggies" that will congregate along the far wall. Makes cleaning the wood floors a little easier.

Good morning. Another hot one, I'm off today. Last night was interesting. We had 2 closers. This is so strange we both checked our schedule. We had Customer Service clean by 10 and started on the night shifts sorting. A manager said she didn't know why they did it because they didn't have anyone mid shift to give the CS brakes and lunch.

Got in over 4 miles yesterday, punding the pavement in downtown Philly. Going back into center city tonight for the penultimate seminar.

Very little weight loss this week. The scales looked fine before breakfast which consisted of a peach, shredded wheat and skim milk and 4 C of coffee. Forget the calories, these must be "heavy" foods.

good morning, another hot one. Today the temp will be over 100. My feet hurt, I ca't say anything else hurts, but everything just feels worn out. Between that and the heat I doubt if Mutt will get a walk. I think it is floor exercises. I'm off the next 2 days so some night time walks are in or near future. I love to walk in the dark and am really looking forward to it.

When I lived in a subdivision there was an HOA and they drove us bonkers. We mover 30 miles to the country, the people on one side of us have chickens the people on the other horses. The only people that don't hang cloths on the cloths line, hang them on the fence. Everyone has a garden. Well we don't because everyone gives us their excess. It is the kind of place where people know everyone and everyone's rules. A place where they would stop Beka and remind her she had gone to far from home or was out too late. A place where everyone watches out for a 71 year old man with walking problems, DH. Our house is a hot spot and and we have no download limit. It doesn't bother me to come home and find someone on my porch. There is a bench on the porch for the neighbors that need internet. Don't look for big fancy homes or all the modern convenances. No one has cable, few have internet. Most of us are just making ends met, but we like it out here.

Getting to Forest Green, instead of just lime or pale-yellow is a difficult thing to do. The problem is the place where I live often sets limitations. Living in a condo there are all kinds of rules and fines if you break them. I guess the ultimate would be to live where there are no rules, only those that nature implies. I'll bet living in Belize was like that.

My sister is coming later and we are going to the Philadelphia main library to do some research on the small chapel where we went to Sunday School when we lived on a farm in Philadelphia back in the 40's. It's no longer there, torn down along with our acreage, house and greenhouses to make way for a shopping mall. Later in the night we will attend a lecture on writing memoirs. That is what she is doing, trying to prepare something that her family will have as a lasting memory of her memories. My sister is a decent writer, but is spelling challenged. It take a knowledge of phonics or lots of creative imagination to know what she is writing. Hopefully she will do this memoir on the computer where she can access spell check.

Nature is too thin a screen; the glory of the One breaks in everywhere.

Good morning, they just said on the TV that the heat index will be over 108 for the next few days.

I always remember beka coming home from school after a day of going green and told me I was so green. I told her there was nothing green about this old mobile home. She told me how green it was that I hang my laundry on the line. I told her I saved lots of green using the cheapest dryer there is.

Hello:

Yesterday I took my mentee's little sister to the Art as a obstacle program at PAFA. Lots of fun creating abstract collages, like drawings and assemblages.

The program on sustainability went well yeaterday. Glad that is over. I do not mind presenting, but I am weary of writing speeches and lectures...and me a former writer...guess I would just rather do other things now.

Good morning, Another hot dry day. I need to wash Mutt. Mutt doesn't like water but likes the walk to dry off. We will have it stay calm, the wasp will gather round to land on anything wet. They only want water. Stay calm and they will just go for the water, but sometimes they get in the way.

Good morning. I left Customer Service a mess last night and am sure to hear about it this morning. Yesterday was one of those day, it started when my car didn't start. I'm very allergic to clorox and 2 people dropped a jug of clorox that busted and I had to stop every thing to clean it up, made the lines long. Then when I got the lines down someone dropped a 24 pack of beer and the cans exploded. I still had hopes for the day. I keep CS open till 11, but hope my last customer will be about 10 so I can clean, last night it was steady and my last customer was 10:59. Then I has 4 carts of claims to go to the back, I can only take 2 at a time and each cart takes 5 min to sort. 11:05 me a manager told me to hurry my husband was waiting outside. I clocked out at 11:20 and told DH now you know why I give myself a window when I'll be home.

Then come, my love, to the shady wood;
It is good to worship apart
From the crowded world, and in solemn mood
Commune with an humbled heart.
The spirit is purer and better far,
For its moments of silent prayer;
Its light grows clearer, like some dim star
When seen through the midnight air.

Good Morning, I took Mutt and went for a walk early. It was so nice we kept walking. The problem with that is then you have to go home. I was sweeting so bad my eyes stung. Mutt just collapsed on the linoleum at the front door. Some doggie ice cream perked him up and he felt up to emptying his water bowl. When a dog is really hot he won't drink and you need to cool him off. He went back to the linoleum.

I tried the cardio kick and punch on the cardio blast yesterday and no, the first exercise is jumping jacks with your legs and punching with you hands. The next exercise is jump rope so it is out and the last one is extreme cardio, and the extreme cardio video is high impact, so it looks like I can do 2 exercise videos. I need low impact.

Good Morning:

It poured yesterday and we decided not to go to the outdoor concert because the forecast promised more thunderstorms in the evening. Instead we went to a theater to see a classic Harold Lloyd film "Safety Last." The theater was packed with folks wanting to see this old silent film. The last time I saw it there was an organist to accompany the film; this modern version had a musical soundtrack (written for the film). Lots of laughs; the audience left with grinning faces.

Today I just signed up to volunteer two months in Cartagena Colombia at a children's day-care center. I have only visited Cartagena as a tourist, never lived there, so this will be a new experience, and I am sure that I will get to see many sides of the city that tourists never see. Can't wait for all that fresh seafood and that great Caribbean cooking. I can taste the arepas right now (though I will have to limit those.) Once I get my placement I will make my plane reservations. I was online this morning but couldn't lock into any really low fares because I will be traveling home in mid-December which is tourist season.

Good morning, Another hot day I took Mutt out while i hung laundry, he didn't do anything. I clicked his leash to the fence in the shade and when we came in he emptied his water bowl. I can't let Mutt off leash, he likes to run in the horse pasture. Some of the horses just look up and go back to what grazing, but there is always at least one that spooks. No he doesn't chase the horses, he just runs in the pasture weather the horses are out or not.

Yesterday I did the 80's cardio on Cardio Blast. There were a few times I had to modify for my ankle and I never did figure out the pony, but on the whole it was a good work out. Yes my DVD came with a request to tell everyone what I thought.

We receive fragments of holiness, glimpses of eternity, brief moments of insight. Let us gather them up for the precious gifts that they are and, renewed by their grace, move boldly into the unknown.

Good morning, I'm a little late getting on because DH got me a Nook HD and I've spent all morning trying to get me Nook books. I could get my Kindle books just fine, but not my nook books. I ended up calling Nook to find out how to read Nook Books on a Nook tablet. Talk about feeling stupid. Turns out I was doing it right, I just couldn't tell because they put 2 pages of recommends before my books so I didn't know my books where there.

Yesterday I tried out the SP Cardio Blast DVD I won on a wheel spin. I did the walking exercise first since it was first on the DVD. It is 5 min of walking warm up, 10 min cardio walking and 5 min walking cool down. A good 20 min indoor walk.

I let my children run around with no dippers to dry out, but that seams to be a taboo now a days.

Hello UU's:

MaryAlice: sorry to hear about baby Tony's diaper rash. Sounds radical, but the best thing to counteract it is leaving him out of diapers and exposing his bottom to the sun. No moisture, diaper rash disappears.
