Does anyone know how to be sure that the fruits and vegetables they buy in the stores are pesticide free? And how do you know where the food comes from? I want to eat more fruits and vegetables, more importantly I want to eat healthy ones, but there are very few labels on produce in our grocery stores.

I've always eaten a lot of fruits and vegetables, so this part is easy for me. I have to concentrate on cutting way back on the bread, rice, cereal. Even whole grains are very high in calories and my serving sizes tend to be much too large if I'm not careful of my portions.

I just ordered some Juice Plus gummy supplements from a friend of mine who is a distributer. I can't seem to get all the whole foods & fruit/veggies I need so I am looking forward to feeling better with those. I did cut up a bunch of pears today though so that felt great! Maybe i'll have a kale green smoothie later.

Just had some collard greens for lunch. I had been leaving them in the fridge too many days. I am thankful that they keep well. I had them all cleaned and cut up in a container. So I browned onions and added the greens and some pre-made vegetable broth. I started with a tsp. of coconut oil. Very good! Chris

Strawberry Goodie Smoothie for lunch, 1/4 cantaloupe for morning snack and bowl full of fresh celery, grape tomatoes and green pepper strips for afternoon snack. Plus 8 oz. prune juice to finish up bottle in fridge (make room for my low sodium V8). We are going out to eat tonight and I will have the rest of my veggies (probably steamed broccoli if they have it) and protein. The Nutrition Tracker really helps because I know I have about 800 calories left and am way low on protein.

Life isn't about chance so don't wish me luck. Life is about choice, so wish me courage.

I am hooked on cabbage ...be it shredded and sauteed with a little chicken broth, balsamic vinegar, and a dash of chili powder.....or cut up in bite size piece raw and made into kimchi.
Doesn't matter if it's Nappa, Regular, or Savoy. I love it.

Kale chips! Sounds odd, but they were really good! We've had those a few times in the past couple of weeks, since we first tired them.

I also tried collard greens last night for the first time. I never made those before, and didn't really know what to do with them, so searched Spark Recipes and found a few vegetarian versions. The one I tried, which my husband and I both loved, was "Collard Greens w/ White Beans". Truly amazing!

A twist on tomatoes.

I microwaved a can of diced tomatoes with Jarlsberg cheese to melt on top. Then I had some Portuguese sweet bread cut sort of in cubes to put on top. Fantastic. I like the taste of sugar with tomatoes an d this worked really well. emoticon Chris

I try to eat 7 different fruits and veggies a day, plus some sort of legume every day, plus whole grains. Today I had 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, 1 cup frozen spinach, and one large carrot in my morning smoothie. I had 1.75 cups cauliflower with dinner, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries in my Fage 0% greek yogurt (high protein) for a snack, and about 1/2 cup grapes for dessert. That's 7.

I find it fast and easy to eat 4 servings a day in a smoothie. Frozen spinach works particularly well, as does carrot and zucchini. Beets are a bit strong, but I use them sometimes. Mostly I eat them shredded (raw) in salads though. I halve bananas and freeze them for convenience and cold-factor in smoothies and use a half at a time. Other fruits I use: a whole small orange, a half an apple, 1/2 or 1 cup frozen blueberries, organic strawberries when I will afford them (never eat unorganic -- tons of pesticides).

We keep many bags of frozen blueberries, organic spinach, peas, and broccoli around all the time -- from Trader Joe's. From Costco we buy fresh organic carrots in 5 lb bags, bananas, Clementine cuties, grapes, organic cherry tomatoes, organic kale and lettuces, and mini-portabella mushrooms regularly. From our local Farmer Joe's market (like Whole foods, but a local 2-store operation) we buy oranges, organic apples, onions, garlic, squashes, organic greens, peppers, zucchini, beets, etc.

When I fall into bad eating, that means I stop eating most fruits and veggies and start eating more cheese and crackers!

It's a blessing to have access to such a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables all year round. I do keep frozen veggies in my freezer, for those times when I'm getting low on fresh. That way I can add them to my recipes. Yesterday I added about 2 cups to a spaghetti recipe. It really bulked it up. It was filling and nutritious. I would have eaten more pasta if I hadn't added those veggies to the recipe.

No matter how slow you go, you are STILL lapping everybody on the couch.

Good job everyone! Keep it up! Spring vegetables are ....right around the corner.....

Keep that citrus coming in the meantime! I'm finding roasted root veggies are a staple nowadays too.

I am so lucky to have a Whole foods right down the street, and for the first time I tried one of their all natural smoothies, it was called peachy green which blended spinach, mango, peaches, and apple juice and it was so tasty! emoticon

For the winter here, I'm eating bananas, apples, frozen berries, pineapple. I love salads, we buy prepackaged dark greens and spinach, and prepackaged carrots, cauliflower and broccoli.
I actually love alot of fruits and veggies.
