I tried Kabocha. It's very sweet like acorn squash and you can eat the rind too. It looks a little like acorn squash too. This is a big step coming from someone who won't touch acorn squash. My Mom was pretty impressed. emoticon

I try to stay away from flour now so I tried spinach fettucine made with Jerusalem Artichoke "flour" from Whole Foods. It totally satisfied my pasta craving!

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to come & applaud you for trying new foods! emoticon So many people eat the same things & there really are so many wonderful foods out there. My new favorite is the Greek Yogurt. I tried the vanilla one & I LOVE it! It has a creamier texture than the other yogurts - not as runny & less sugar. Give it a try.

We've been participating in a CSA (community supported agriculture) this summer and this has been bringing us many new foods. We've eaten fennel, which I am not super fond of, but steamed, braised in white wine and with some freshly grated parmesan, it is not bad. We had Savoy cabbage and purple cabbage. Savoy cabbage is amazing. Our most recent new food, though is celery. Yes, celery. I don't like celery. I'm willing to use it as an ingredient in things when it is chopped small or cooked, but I would never eat it on purpose for its own sake. I think it is mostly a texture thing. And that it usually doesn't taste like much. The celery from the CSA though was amazing. It was bright green and tasty. I still think it is kind of stringy, but besides mixing it with tuna for sandwiches today, I ate and more or less enjoyed a couple of sticks of this stuff. Local, seasonal vegetables have just been rocking for me this summer.

Well, I liked it. It had sort of the texture of an apricot, the skin of a plum, and a taste that was right in the middle. They were too expensive to be buying another one any time soon though. Not THAT good.

Tonight, I'm trying a sweet pluot tonight. I have absolutely no idea what it is, but I guess I'll find out.

Ah...just Wiki'd. It's a half-plum, half-apricot. Hmmm...let's see how this turns out.

Yeah, I hear you on the napa cabbage!! I just tried some a couple weeks ago too, made an AWESOME salad with it.

Before that I tried Opo - it's a summer squash but it tastes like a cross between cucumber and zucchini.

Next I want to try sinqua. I was thinking to also try bitter melon, but apparently that has GOT to be cooked or it's too bitter to eat, and as I'm primarily raw vegan that's not an option.

I tried Napa Cabbage from our local farmers market. I wish someone had turned me onto it years ago. I am allergic to lettuce, so I eat a lot of spinach. This has a lot of the same texture of lettuce!

BTW, I love Quinoa too!

Quinoa is one of my faves. It has such a great flavor and texture. It's tasty in soups, too.

I tried two new items this week: pepino melon and quinoa.

According to the label, the melon was a cross between a cantelope and and honeydew melon and the shape resembled a pear. I wasn't too crazy about the taste.

The quinoa was very good and easy to cook. I've been eating it for lunch mixed with ground seasoned turkey and plan to experiment with adding raisins and sweetening with maple syrup for breakfast.

I made the parsnips with dinner last night...yummy! I cooked them with carrots, and I made a recipe I have for carrots vichy...basically candied carrots. Put the carrots and parsnips in water, bring to boil, add butter and honey and simmer till liquid is nice and thick. The parsnips were very tasty this way!!

I always check the 'true' RAW FOODS section within my local health food store for what's "new". Goji berries are the current new family favorite (if two 5 year olds will eat them over gummies you know they are a hit! LOL)

Hope you have a Happy & Healthy week Eating Whole Foods and trying new ones,

Well, I read through this thread briefly last week and was inspired to try some new things. We eat tons of fruit in our house, but not enough veggies. I just don't really like a lot of them. I juice lots of veggies so I can still get some of the great benefits, but I can drink it in a hurry!! Anyway, I have tried several new things. I read a lot about greek yogurt, so I tried it. I had it for lunch today....I was amazed at how GREAT it was! I added a bit of honey and flaxseed..wow was it good!! I also tried a hybrid variety of fruit called a black velvet apricot, a cross of a plum and apricot...it was delicious! And, in an effort to broaden our veggie horizons I picked up a couple parsnips at the store. My mom and sis say they are delish, so I thought I would give it a try, haven't made them yet, but will let you know when I do. Please keep posting here...I love to read all the new things people are trying and get new ideas for my family, too!!

Whenever I find a new fruit at the store I pick it up. One per trip of course...
The last few I've tried are the Ugli fruit from Jamaica - surprisingly delicious, kind of a sweeter version of the grapefruit. I also tried that star fruit - also very good. And the Kiwano, it was a prickly fruit, yellow rind, and green jell-like substance around seeds; you sucked the jell bubble that was surrounding each seed and ate that and spit out the seed, it was a lot of work and tasted like kiwi - i might just stick with kiwi :)

I have added chia seeds to my diet. I have made them into a jell and then added the jell to my almond butter. I have also added them to juice to make jelly.. I use it with the almond butter and Ezekial english muffins.. great stuff!

You can just add it to water or juice and drink it also.. so many things you can do with it..I am anxious for more time to experiment with it now.

Have a nice day, debbie emoticon

I have been eating Kefir lately. It is kind of like yogurt with all those good bacterias. I either drink it in a smoothie, or eat it over fruit topped with flax and chopped nuts!

I challenged myself to trying a new veggie every week last month. I found out I loved red and yellow sweet peppers, chayote, jeruselum artichokes were "interesting"...and I still hate beets regardless of the color or how they are cooked...lol.

So I finally got around to trying Greek yogurt (I tried the Fage 2% with honey for breakfast this morning). Wow! It was terrific! I'm trying to broaden my food horizons by trying new/healthier foods. How about you all - tried anything new lately that you just loved???
