Hi, Tofu really doesn't have a taste. It kind of soaks up the taste of the foods around it, such as in Chinese Hot & Sour Soup. I keep buying it in the hopes of using it in something, but it just sits in the refrigerator becoming a Science project.

I have been trying to think of something that I haven't tried that wouldn't be totally disgusting. I have tried most veggies and fruits. I have tried to like brussel sprouts and liver, to no avail.

I would appreciate some suggestions and I will go to the store tomorrow and try something new.

Jamknitter - I gotta ask because I've never tried it but what does Tofu taste like? Does it have taste? I've seen it at stores, etc. but haven't got the nerve to try it. I'm such a picky eater (I blame my mom - she never made us eat veggies as a child and now when I try something it's always "ack" to me.)

I am a big meat eater - farmer's daughter. I think I'd be kicked out of the will if I didn't eat beef!

The only time I eat meat is if I am eating at mom's. I get my protein through Tuna (I do eat fish), tofu, cottage cheese, beans & rice. I used to use flavored protein powder in smoothies. But now I put silken, soft tofu in them instead. I try to eat 1 serving or non-meat protein with every meal & healthy snack. I've been able to get enough protein each day this way. emoticon

I know what you are talking about. Yeah the protein powder. Some are like a shake and you mix it with milk maybe even water too. My dads a triathete and he used to use that stuff when he started training. If you are going good with it for now, then i'd wait on it.

Good for you staying on top of the protein.

Thanks! I was thinking of those powder...things, but I'm not entirely sure of what I do with it...do you mix it in your drink??? or....food lol
I've been doing pretty super with my protein this week-I was surprised so I don't think I will need the protein powder/whatever thing after all.

That's so true!! I went up to the office to pay my rent and the lady there had tamales that her family makes. She forced me to eat one so I could try it and see how good they were and maybe get some from her later. I couldn't say "no" to someone wanting my opinion. And it was just 1. But, nowhere in Spark does it say "pork tamale" so I had to go with Shoney's beef tamale as a roundabout close item for the log. But, still... I should've just said no thanks!! Grrr..

Hello everybody! It's been a while since I posted here lol. I've been busy at work and at home with sick kids and then myself being sick that I have been doing the bare minimum that I can do to get by.

I'm so excited!!!! 4 more sleeps until my fitness club opens its doors! emoticon I can't wait to get in there and sign up for some exercise classes.

I know. :) That's something we can keep our minds busy with so we don't think of "other" stuff. :) What our rewards can be. I mean, for me, it's reward enough to go down a clothing size, or to hear a compliment, or just to have my wii one day tell me I'm no longer "obese" but simply "overweight". I think I'll cry when it does. :P

Laurel, you are so right. We shouldn't dismiss even a 1 lb. loss. The only way to get to our ultimate goal, is to take those pounds off; one at a time. I keep reminding myself that I cannot get to 150 without being 170 something and then 160 something. I have a hard time with thinking of rewards too. Possibly because we know it shouldn't be sinful food, and partly because I don't want it to cost a lot of $$$. I think that when I reach the 20 lb. mark, I might but myself a new workout outfit.... on sale, of course. Something that politely shows off my thinning!!! lol emoticon

Good morning sweet girls! I was just sitting here thinking about my weight. I know weight loss takes time and it's a journey! But, I know, too, that we all need motivation and it's baby steps that add up to a hike! :P So, I was sitting here trying to remember back to when I weighed less than 230 and I can't recall! It was AGES ago. So, when I hit 229 I think I'll celebrate with something special. NON-FOOD special. I don't know what it'll be yet, but I think we ALL need to really cheer ourselves onward to even the baby steps! Lost only a pound? YES IT IS A HUGE DEAL!! It's a pound GONE! And YOU dismissed it!!

Just thoughts running through my mind. :) I hope you all are still on track with your new year's resolutions!!

Happy New Year everyone! Today was a great day! Stayed within my calorie range and tracked all my food. No cardio today, though. My bum is so sore from yesterday's workout and this day was a much needed rest. I am excited for the challenge! emoticon

Well, only a little over 10 hours until we ring in 2011 here. I can't believe how quickly the year has flown by. Last year at this time, I was preparing to enter my final term at school. This year, I am now a working mother of two and am busier than ever.

This year is the year that I am going to make myself a focus. I want to take better care of myself so I can set the correct example for my family.

Enough rambling. I just want to wish everybody a safe and Happy New Year celebration. See you in 2011!

Well it's back to work today. I packed myself a lunch and snacks so hopefully, I won't go off track. Of course it helps that my work is off the beaten path and has no stores in close proximity. Its a 40 minute round trip walk to the nearest coffee shop and my lunch isn't that long so I should be safe emoticon . Have to go finish getting ready for work. Everybody have a great day!

I hope everybody had a safe and happy holiday!

It's been a while since I've posted anything. Over the holidays, I have done the bare minimum of everything but today I am getting myself back on track. In my past struggles to lose weight I always gave up this week and started the new year. WHY? because of the wonderful holiday food and family members who say, "Oh a little piece wouldn't hurt." OUCH 2 days later. So this year I am going to eat that tiny piece of pie and try the real good looking holiday cookie, but not feel guilty. I know how calories work. I will track what ever I eat on December 25th. I will also add my cardio minutes that day too. Taking a short walk around the block with Nana, or your brother would help you and them. Put on the holiday music and rock around the christmas tree. Change it up this year, add a new tradition.

I come from a family that's a mixed bag of Jews, Christians, and Atheists...but it's all good, and we all show up for any old excuse to get together. Presents & food are a good incentive, also!
I think it's gonna be Turkey for Christmas. Did the briskets for Hanukkah.

Michelle - roast beef? I know that's tradition in some countries rather than ham or turkey. But I love both ham and turkey. I think we're doing a ham. I just hope my step-dad doesn't over cook it. He tries so hard but he's about to be 87 and sometimes I'm not sure his eyes can tell when it's done! But it's more about him wanting to cook than rather it tastes good. I'm just thankful he's active and wants to do things.

Just think at this time next week Christmas will have come and gone. Can't believe how fast the year has gone.

As hard as it is, focus on making healthy decisions this week. But let yourself enjoy. If you eat something you shouldn't - calculate the calories and do that many more minutes in cardio!

Good afternoon everyone and all I can say is TGIF! It has been a long week. Diet and exercise are going ok but work right now is just dragging. LOL I guess I'm getting excited for Christmas. Any ideas for Christmas dinner? I have two children, one hates turkey and the other hates ham. I don't want to have to buy and cook two separate meals.

I know the feeling. I always have to remind myself that any loss is good. Even little losses add up over time. I can report that l am now under 210. I can see a weight starting with a one soon. I see my dr tomorrow morning. I hope to report good news tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. I got on the scale this morning and lost 1-pound in the past week. I was glad I lost something--but ONLY one pound? Then I thought about how heavy my 5-pound dumbbell is. Then I went into the kitchen, opened my pantry door and grabbed a 15 and a half oz. can of tomatoes, felt it's weight and said "Hey, I lost a whole pound, very cool !!". That is one pound I no longer have to push through the atmosphere. Yeah!!

Michelle - it sounds like you're setting a good course. Slow and steady is the best way to go, I know we hear that all the time. In today's world we seem to want instant gratification, when sometimes the most rewarding things are the things we have to work hard to achieve. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to wake up tomorrow and be 20 pounds lighter! Cuz I'd take that in a heartbeat! But there is a feeling of accomplishment when you lay out your plan, you track that plan and the results start to show. You can look at yourself with pride and say "I did this!" You are doing great - keep it up!

Laura - B.M.I. - I did this for a challenge I'm in - and I about cried when I saw what it was. For the first time that word "obese" was there in front of me. And I was very disappointed in myself that I had let my weight get to be what is has. And yes muscle weighs more than fat. I'm trying to find an article on it and once I do I'll post it to your page. Also - I'll leave you a message on SparkPage about that menopause thing!

Hi All. I'm still here. My first weigh in wasn't so great... didn't lose a pound, depsite faithfully tracking and exercising. My BMI did drop though (I have one of those scales that measures weight and BMI) by a full percentage point. So, I'm thinking that muscle weighs more than fat, and perhaps there's a shift in fat v. muscle going on inside me. I am not going to give up this time, no matter what. I have to keep trying. I tend to think I may be entering menopause, which is also probably making things hard. Anyone gone through any of this?

Hey! Where is everyone?! It's a busy time of year and so it's even more important to take care of yourself. Remember what they say if you're in an airplane and the oxygen masks drop down.....put your's on before you assist anyone else. So make sure you are planning some "YOU" time.

I'm fortunate - every day is me time - I just need to learn to make better use of it!

It's Sunday - a new day to a new week. What will you do to make a difference in this healthy journey we are on?

I found this quote today and I really like it and am going to implement this in my daily life. We are so occupied with losing weight and being at that goal we sometimes forget to enjoy each day:

“Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.” ~~Greg Anderson

Even though we do need to look toward the goal, that's the purpose in setting a goal, we need to remember to celebrate the small victories along the way, whether it be a half pound loss, 100 extra steps a day, 5 more minutes on the elliptical, saying no to chocolate (which I believe is a sin but that's just me!). Whatever it is - celebrate!

Good morning all! Uggh, just looking at our forecast for the next few days and its giving rain yet again emoticon ! Now I'm not saying I want snow but come on, enough with the rain. It seems every 2nd or 3rd day, we have more rain.

I guess I better get out and get things done today as I'm not going to want to get out in the rain tomorrow. Bad enough I have to go to work in it. Going to be busy day as I have to get to store, clean house, cook supper and try to meet up with an old buddy from school. Oh and fit in that exercise. I'll probably go for 10 minute bursts throughout the day.

Have a great day! It's cold and blustery here in Nebraska. A good day to stay in and do some exercise DVDs and finally get the Christmas tree up but I just gotta venture outside and see what things are like out there. Sometimes I don't use the sense God gave me!

I use to weigh myself every morning but I was too much of an emotional ride with the scale going down one day and up the next. So, I have now begun to weigh myself only once a week and now I feel an anticipation , an excitement, as to what the scale will read when I finally get on it.

Hey girlie, I weigh myself once a week. I weighed myself the day I started SP and that was on a Sunday, so that's the day I weigh every week.

Anita, Great job on tracking. That's always the toughest commitment for me, but I am trying to be completely faithful to my tracker too!

Michelle, I am hoping for a great day for you! Make that exercise a priority! You can do it!

Debbie, so here's my question. I did an exercise tape yesterday, Boot Camp - Biggest loser. Lots of squating. What I have discovered is that there exists a muscle in my butt, running vertically on both cheeks, and boy are they sore!!!! Any idea what muscle that is? It's not my whole butt that hurts, just this vertical patch running across both cheeks..... oh, on to the ice pack!

Good morning!
I am tracking everything that goes in...even if I go over...and that is a big achievement for me...and I'm feeling great!

Michelle, I hope the day goes by fast for you. Is there anyway you could do some cardio while the kiddos are at gymnastics? Maybe walking around the perimeter of the area they are working in? That would definitely help the time go by faster AND get your cardio out of the way at the same time! Good luck! :o)

Good morning everyone! Today is going to be a super long day for me. Work until 4:30 and then on to the gymnastics club where my ds is there until 7:00 and dd until 7:30 then come home and try to fit in some cardio and strength exercise. Oh and make sure the children get their reading and homework done. Wish me luck!

Uggh, what a way to start my weight loss again! I ended up being sick Wed & Thur so did not meet any of my goals/challenges. Couldn't even eat much feeling so lousy. I'm starting to feel better today so will probably begin some light cardio tonight and see how that goes. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Well, on my first day back, I did well. Exercised, stayed within my calorie range and logged all food in. I do, however, have a splitting headache! Yuck... Seven months ago, I fell off the bandwagon. Headache or not, I am back to stay. Please keep me accountable team! We can do this together! emoticon

Just 4 Today ... I just want to stay in the moments I am in. Doing one thing at a time so to speak. ENJOYING what I am doing NOW, which is saying hello to others starting/restarting Spark the same time as me this time around.

But I also want to stay in the moments later today that I find myself in even if I do not enjoy them. To feel the discomfort if I overeat. To recognize there is too much outside "noise" around me and I dislike it. To know my body needs exercise and wants me to try something sometime soon.

Just for today I want to stay in the moments I am in. I hope all of you find a way to stay in the moments you are in today, too.

Hi Olivia,
Today is my 4th day and I think it's a great place to be for support and motivation.

I joined a bunch of Spark Groups and realized it's difficult and time consuming to keep up.

I decided that this is a good group to keep up with because we all started around the same time, better than age and interest really, it's an instant bond, beginning something together.

Anyway, I have had a stressful week so far and my scale is going in the wrong direction! They say you should only weigh yourself once a week so I am not going to stress about it until I weigh myself on Monday. Today I have renewed determination, no stress eating!

My daughters name is Olivia, beautiful name...

Hi folks,
It is nice to know that we are all trying new behaviors to get us where we want to be. I haven't made it to 8 glasses of water either, but getting closer and thinking about drinking more often. Exercise is happening but slowly. My big success so far is not eating between meals and not eating in front of the TV. That is DIFFICULT, but one helps with the other. emoticon

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Stopping by briefly before heading to work. How is everyone doing?

Barbara - good job on starting with the water. I always drink a glass of orange juice right after I shower then the next drink is a 24 oz bottle of water. So good start to the day!

Good morning everyone! Staying home with a sick son today so should be able to get my exercise in early :) Already started on my water consumption for the day.
