Good for you! What a great idea, wearing the pedometer. 6600 steps is kind of good for a day you didn't think you could get any exercise in. That's about 2 and 1/2 or 3 miles, depending on your stride length. It sounds like you're doing pretty good! I have problems with my ankles sometimes. You just have to be patient, and start doing strengthening exercises as soon as you can. I found an excellent article on how many walking steps are in a mile, how that varies from person to person:
Thanks everyone for the positive words! it really helps. Today was the first day of the conference. I wore a pedometer and only reached about 6600 steps. My ankle is doing better though without the brace so I hope I can go back to Jazzercise Thursday. I am supposed to weigh tomorrow. I don't anticipate a weight loss but I hope I didn't gain! The conference is about an hour away so I am coming home each night. Had a fairly healthy stir fry for dinner. Thanks for all the encouragement.
Hey there! Looks like you've had a couple bumps, but I'm impressed with your weight loss! I know how it feels to be limited by an old injury. Keep up the icing and the brace--don't forget your self care. Good job on getting back to tracking your calories. Are you going away for the conference and staying at a hotel? Is there a small gym you could do some weights at? Will you be able to track your calories?

Hey T_Mag! I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated right now. I can get that way sometimes and it almost feels like you'll never bust out of that rut!! However, you can do it, girl!!! Sit down, close your eyes and take a deep breath! Realize that this is a long journey and that you can't be perfect all the time!!
I am sorry to hear about your ankle as well!! Try using this time to really focus on your nutrition. Just because one side of the fitness/nutrition scale is off limits, doesn't mean the other has to fall by the wayside.
So get back up, brush yourself off and start with today!! What are your goals for today to stay on track? Once you've figured that out, take some time to plan out what you're going to do at the conference! These gals gave some great tips....get some healthy snacks!! It will probably motivate you to eat well the whole time!!!

Hi T_MAGNOLIA, I'm a newbie too, 2 and half weeks. What I like about spark is cardio is just one aspect to work on in addition to strength training and nutrition. If one goes out of whack for a bit as long as I work on the other two I still progress. I have found even if I was limited to just the nutrition I would still be able to set goals and see progress.
Don't beat yourself up over what you have no control over, your ankle will get better. Do what you can - a bit of strength training, salads or heart healthy meals at restaurants, bring a small cooler with veggies and fruit snacks for your conference. If you have time check in here for a few minutes and read a success story or motivational blog.
Do the best you can and the rest will fall into place.

Hi! Your allowed to have a bad week even at the start of a journey!Take Care of your ankle. When I started I remember my feet hurting real bad. I did days of strenghth training. Got some 5 lb weights and did some upper body exercise. That gave my feet a chance to rest a bit. On your conference days are they are out of town, remember food wise veggie snacks are good. I once was leading a session for a weekend conferance and made everyone in room get up and do a couple of stretch exercises for about 5 minutes. It worked! Everyone was so happy just to get some exercise and movement going. Just take it easy.

I'm so frustrated. I was so motivated and ready to get this weight off; I had a great first week, burning extra calories and counting everything. The second week, I had a busier schedule and couldn't burn as much. Now, over halfway into my 3rd week and I haven't been able to work out at all. My ankle is bothering me. I was on my feet a lot over the weekend and by Sunday night it was swollen. I had to ice it and wear a brace all week (old injury). The swelling has gone down but I'm afraid to stress it because it is still sensitive. I have a 3 day conference next week and won't be able to do much until Thursday. The problem is, since I can't exercise I have lost motivation to eat right and track my calories. I ate out with a group of friends yesterday and that just blew the whole day so I didn't write anything down. Tracking calories again today and making a sparkpeople recipe for tonight... But, I don't have much confidence for the weekend and for that conference Mon-Wed. Help! Any advice to help me stay on track or motivated?
