I am so happy to be on break since I've been so stressed out over my class. Time to recuperate and regroup.

As a long-term sub, I was not expecting any Christmas presents - especially not chocolate! Bad day, ate the chocolate!

Friday is party time in classroom! Still finalizing details.

Overall, this Holiday Season is going well. Even with all the goodies in the Staff Lounge, I am doing well with not overeating. Yesterday was a bad day - out-of-control eating but today is much better. My students are looking forward to break and so am I. I would like to get some reading and cross-stitch done as well as catching up on my grading. Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

I have been really struggling to get back on track since Thanksgiving. I have been subbing, and every day I go to a different school. There are potlucks, holiday goodies, tins of caramel popcorn, etc. in the teachers' lounges. Is anyone else having a hard time with this? It has really been throwing me off!

I have been working on a huge school project about Super-Powers.... I am so excited about this idea and how I can start attaching it to Standards and Children earn the super power of Dividing by 2 digit numbers and how to earn energy to build up strength to conquer their kryptonite.

Once you earn the super power and become a "Master" you must as a good master or superhero share this power with others. Don't abuse it and use it unwisely to think you are better than others.... Anyway... you're welcome to read my blog. I am super excited about this huge concept. It will be my project over the Winter Break.

make sure you are logging your food intake every day...it really helps me keep on track...just work on focusing on one meal at a time....make that meal happen every single day! Even if it is only breakfast. It is one meal every single day you can be in control of, then go from there, you can build from there on....hope that helps. emoticon

I have not being doing well in the last two months at all, but I continue to walk and am just shooting to meet my goal of 1300 miles walked this year. I am not sure why I can't seem to get my eating under control lately. I know in reality it's what I need to do, but I keep getting swayed in a variety of ways. My pants are tight and I hate that too. I just need to find that reason why I need to keep it in high gear.

My cactus has LARGE buds and I want to see when it actually opens. I usually stop watering during Oct. (just a tiny bit) and start back up in Nov. Sometimes that watering restart just kick starts it and other times it just does its own thing! LOL Beautiful whenever though!

Lily, I agree! Kinder is one of my favorites anyway!

I have a Christmas cactus; however it seldom knows that what it is! LOL Sometimes it blooms for Thanksgiving. The blooms are getting big; if it will wait a little longer is a guess. Sometimes it is just a December cactus! Does anyone else have one of these?

I start a Bible study online w/ Good Morning girls w/ the Advent as the concentration. I must say I am enjoying it so far. I am trying to make time for it every day just as I do w/ walking. Today I went back to work and I ran 1/2 mile and I walked 3.5 miles. I also tracked everything that I ate and I believe I am within my calorie range. I also tutored but my little guy was not cooperative tonight, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I will be subbing in Kindergarten the whole month of December, so the diabetes nutritionist might have to wait depending if they see people later in the day.

Had a great week with the Grandson and tried to be careful of what I ate on Thanksgiving; first year ever I didn't gain a little weight! YEA!!

By the way, no writing/typing, etc. police here! My keyboard is not the best speller either. LOL

Oh Dee, I definitely hear you! I was just saying to my husband this morning. I feel so lethargic. I am sure it is because my diet had more food and more rich food than i am used to.. SO I feel the same way.. I am going to reign in the eating habits and jump start my back to losing ways..

Happy December! I've decided not to let this December be like all the ones before. My weight is already up. I can't afford to wait until the new year to start getting serious about losing weight. Besides, I wind up overeating and feeling horrible physically, emotionally and mentally. Instead I'm too full to enjoy the holiday fully! I spend the last week of the month disappointed in myself, defeated and ashamed that I've let another year come & go without losing weight. So I want to make this a December to remember! I am going to jump-start my weight loss right now. It's my present to myself! emoticon

Abundant Blessings, Dee

WOW!! I am going to have to take time to read all these messages. We have some amazing people on here! Question: Do we have typing and writing police on here? I am not the greatest typist and I know that I get lazy with my writing while I am typing ( my mind just works faster) So I apologize ahead of time! LOLOLOL

I like the idea of walking in the school early. I certainly go in early and I could walk a bit before. I mean I walk a lot during the day but this would be different. At least until the snow melts.

One thing I have noticed is there is so much stress this year and everyone is feeling it. I eat.. Has anyone come up with some ways they conquer this at school? Also, water.. i love water , but since i have been working I don't seem to have time to drink as much as usual! Thanks so much for listening!!

It has been a few days since I posted! I have gained weight, yuck but such is life. Tomorrow is a new month and alas I shall set some manageable goals. I walked 5 miles today in 85 minutes! Go me! I was motivated. I have 121 miles to go by Dec. 31, 2013 to meet my goal of walking 1300 miles. I am struggling but I am concentrating on the positive and reasons to be thankful right now. I wrote a blog feel free to check it out!

Got lab results from dr. yesterday and it was not good news. My glucose level was quite high and she says I'm on the wrong side of the fence for being diabetic. I'll be doing some major research as to what all this entails. I thought I was eating pretty healthy and exercising; so not sure how this came about.

Stopping by for a quick hello. Meet with the contractor tomorrow to finalize plans for the bathroom remodeling. Got all the paperwork at the bank done. It won't start until January so we don't have a mess over the holidays and then will take about 6-8 weeks to get done. Hope it turns out as pretty as I envision it!

BOMBCHELL - you are amazing! You have come a long way and are a great role model with all your healthy choices!!

This will be short and sweet I walked 4 miles on the ramps at work and then came home to still run 1/2 a mile b/c I promised myself. I am determined to get in 1300 miles this year! I only have a short amount of time throughout this year. I had a rough day at work but still made good food choices actually stayed within my range again. I am praying tomorrow is a better day at work though.

I walked 4.5 miles today and ran 1/2 mile and stayed within my calorie range for the third day in a row. I have honestly tracked my food as well. I know if I stick with I might start losing weight again, which is my goal. I asked God to help me get back to losing weight and to nudge me in the right direction. I just need to have confidence in myself. I also took the girls to church, cleaned mom's, took a nap, read for a bit, went to a PR meeting and won a PR bingo and earned a $279 toy. Woohoo I am super excited about that, well worth the $7 I spent to play Bingo.

Thanks! My 15 minutes of fame for the year. LOL Still not sure how they decide these things; but it was a fun day. One more week of school before Thanksgiving holidays begin here. Have a job for the month of Dec. but not sure about anything for this coming week. Didn't have one call this past week. Got a lot of cleaning done though!

emoticon Way to go Chell, on getting your fitness and staying in range today!! I hear you about going into school early to get your walking done. I stay late and climb stairs - it's a 4 story school!

I walked 4.5 miles today and ran 1/2 a mile as well! I also stayed within my calorie range! Go Me! I also went Christmas shopping w/ my Mom and my girls. I did not make good lunch choices, but made an excellent dinner choice and good snack choices. Either way I stayed within my calorie range today. I am excited about that. I also started wrapping Christmas presents as well.

I work in a public school and I go in early to squeeze in my 2 miles before work starts at 7:30 AM on the ramps b/c it is indoors and I start my day walking!

I was excited today to get an email from Spark saying I was the Motivator of the Day. Not sure how that came about, but it was a nice gesture. I put a "thank-you" to all concerned in a blog.

Chell - Are you teaching in a public school? 7:00 am - 6:00 pm is an unusually long day, even though you're working an extra 3 hours at the end watching the kids who have detention. Do you go in earlier than expected to get work done or is 7:00 am your normal start time?

I know sleep is SO important. I think what is equally important is having a consistent bedtime and waking up time, whether it's 6 hours of sleep a night, 7, or 8 hours. Some people don't need 8 hours of sleep. Maybe a regular bedtime ritual would help you.

Last year for lunch I brought essentially the same thing every day. We only have 40 minutes for lunch. My lunch was 14 baby carrots, 2 Mini Babybel Light cheeses, a Kashi protein bar, and an apple. It worked for me. If I knew I was staying late, I'd bring some almonds with me also. BUT, you need to figure out something that works with your schedule.

I do take my leftovers for lunch but I can't track that stuff until late at night. I track my breakfast before leaving for work. I cannot eat the same thing 5 days in a row. I keep thinking about it and not sure why I cannot seem to get enough sleep either. I did track my food today and stayed within my calorie range.

Today I walked 4 miles on the ramps at work in 72 min, but then I had a meeting before and after work. I stayed until 6 PM to start my lesson plans and then still had to pick up my girls. I am not getting home until 8 PM at night and just wiped out. Tomorrow I work from 7 AM until 6 PM b/c I get to watch the kids in trouble from 3 PM to 6 PM. During that time I make every effort to finish up my lesson plans for the next week.

Chell - I would "Spark" during my lunchtime at work. It helps if you eat the same thing for lunch every day and save the food to your favorites. Make tracking your food a priority, like you've done with your walking!!

I have not posted lately but I have been getting my walks in on a daily basis. Some days I am hitting my calories and other days I am so tired when I get home, I lose the motivation to track my food. Any suggestions?

Stopping by to say hi as well. Second day in a row that there is no listing for a sub. I think the schools have their preferred list and I'm not on those.

BOMBCHELL - you impress me with all your walking! How did the party go? (what is PR?)

Karen - sounds like you have crazy weather like we do! We will be in the 70's until Wed. and then boom - drops down to 40's! Thanks for the info about the chiropractor, I may just have to look into finding one.

DS9KIE - what age group is the recital?

Have been very busy substitute teaching and trying to fit in all the dr. appointments I didn't go to when I was long-term teaching that 3rd grade. Having a sub for the sub just didn't make sense. I'll be long-term again in Dec. for a Kindergarten teacher so this month is it!

I walked 4 miles on the ramps, got my plates transferred for my new car, worked on my lesson plans (I have math to finish), I came home and ate a salad and resisted pizza and ice cream b/c I promised to stay within my calorie range today which I accomplished. Tomorrow I help out at my church for Coats for Kids which gives out coats to kids that have none for the winter. Then I have a PR party tomorrow night to earn money to pay bills, I am praying it goes well.

I went and got my hair cut today, then went out for lunch, then took the car in to be serviced. It was a nice outing. The weather was beautiful, and then you could see a front approaching really fast, and it got cloudy and sprinkled for about 10 minutes, then the sun came back out. Yesterday was rainy and warmer, almost 65. Today it was blustery and closer to 50.

Krys - Yes, I feel that the chiropractor helps me. I've been going to them for over 7 years now, and when I originally went it was for severe lower back pain, which I don't have any longer!

I walked 4 miles at work on the ramps at work. It was a decent day at work but I am always relieved to see the weekend come so I can find a few minutes to relax. Tonight I tutored after working all day. Then I had to wait for the girls to be finished w/ Girl Scouts and then drive home 25 minutes. I was relieved to walk in about 7:30 PM.

Subbed in a sweet 5th grade classroom today. They were just a delight to work with. Friday I jump to Kindergarten, which should be fun. Meeting with contractor tomorrow about bath remodel. Wish me luck in having what I want doable and economically feasible!

I walked 4 miles at work on the ramps, then walked 1.5 miles with trick or treating. I did not make good food choices but it's okay there is tomorrow. It was a pretty good day at work too. It was nice seeing my grandparents as well tonight. I will attempt to go to bed early.

The time change really messed with me today...i was awake before the alarm and couldn't go back to sleep. (Did use the time to do some core exercises on the ball, though.) Had a hair appt. right after school, and it was already dark and cold when I got home, so i didn't walk. Recovering from a nasty cold, so I cut myself some slack. I need to adjust my routine to get back to the gym, though it just doesn't boost my mood like being outdoors. When I retire I'm going to winter somewhere warm and sunny!

I'm excited! Got a kindergarten subbing job for the month of December while the teacher recuperates from surgery. I love that age group!

BOMBCHELL23 - you were a busy lady today! I have faith in you - remember we are all cheering for your success.

HEALTHYNEWPAIGE - good use of that extra hour, in my opinion!

ALIIDA - go at the pace you are comfortable with; those goals from Spark are just suggestions. You can tweak them to whatever works best for you!

Karen - did the chiropractor help as much as you hoped? We are cooling off down here in the South as well; not as cool as you (yet!)

Hi everyone. I went to the chiropractor today. Sometimes I feel like you have to get worse before it gets better emoticon It's all on my right side: my right thigh, my right shoulder, and my right hand. My hand I know it's carpal tunnel, but the chiropractor helped in the past, so I'm hoping it will help again.

It definitely feels like the end of Fall today! Although it was sunny, I don't think it made 40 degrees here today, and it was 30 when I woke up this morning. Good thing I got a new winter coat!!

SP recommends goals but I'm scared of not reaching them, so I hesitate to make them in case I discourage myself. You can see on my ticker that I take things in small bites. Ideally I could lose another nine kilos from where I am now.

So I'll go against the grain and set myself a one kilo goal for November. emoticon
Just thought of another one which is achievable, necessary, but not TOO easy - turn out the lights by midnight.

Just went to a baby shower for a coworker this afternoon. Somehow even though I should appreciate the team building opportunity, I felt as though I was shorted part of my weekend to spend a Sunday afternoon with coworkers.

On the bright side, I used my extra hour from the time change sleeping and feel better than I have for the past couple of months.

I am determined to make a difference in my life and to really lose the weight that I gained back. I can do this with the support of my team.

I walked 3 miles in 54 min. w/ my daughter
Completed 100 wall push ups
Completed a 22 min. video w/ Nicole that incorporated strength training.

I vacuumed my car, cleaned my desk, took a nap, made dinner, and bought a few groceries too.

How nice to hear from our members all over the world! We are so glad you are here.

Just dropping by to say hi. Spent the afternoon getting ideas for the master bath we want remodeled. Found a nice layout for our bathroom remodeling project; just hope it is doable in the space we actually have.

We had teacher work days on Halloween and the day after. It was so nice to not have to deal with trying to keep tired kids on task the day after Halloween! The in-service presentations were very interactive, productive, and helpful. Now I'm going for a walk in the nice fall evening with my husband. emoticon

I haven't been interacting on the website so much for the last couple of days and I don't want to let go of the high of the first couple of weeks.

So.... I posted about a "best" and a "worst" a few days ago. The worst turned out fine. I missed a deadline for signing up for a meeting, but it didn't matter in the end. It was for an emergency drill for disasters like fire or earthquake. (I'm in Japan). We have to bribe the students with a bottle of water and a Soy Joy, otherwise when we take them to the evacuation area, they'll just head home instead emoticon . I'm supposed to dive under my desk to avoid falling objects (pretend). I've never done that before. I'm going to feel like an idiot, but the students are used to it because they're trained to do it in elementary school. The teachers were bribed to go to the meeting with a lunchbox. I have no idea how many calories that is, but it feels like too many. emoticon I'm heading home from school now, walking fast so I can burn it off emoticon .

It has been a struggle on different levels lately and I feel like I have dropped out of most of my groups including this one. Thank you for the continued support it is greatly needed and appreciated. I have continued to walk every day though which is a positive. I am struggling with tracking my food but I truly need to if I want to lose weight. I would ask for continued support and love.

I have been sick and barely got the Halloween party set up...it was October 26...now on to the recital (I have a felling the Halloween stuff will still be up in November)

Welcome DS9!

Yes Krys!! I've already been shopping and knitting for the holidays! I have to mail a number of packages, so I have to be well prepared. One of the things I bought at Costco the other day was holiday tissue paper...lol!!

I had a restful day yesterday, but I did get my pantry cleaned out and reorganized. A dear friend stopped yesterday afternoon for a visit, and that was wonderful! Today another friend and I are going to go get a mani-pedi, and then go out for lunch.

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Had a busy, busy day yesterday. Had 3 doctor's appts: one at 9:30, one at 12 noon, and one at 2:30. All went well. The pulmonologist was impressed with my bouncing back. He cleared me to go to the gym - yay!! He also said I could get a flu shot, and I'll get that Monday. After all the drs visits, I met a friend at Costco and we went shopping there for a couple of hours. Was in bed by 9:30 and slept like a rock. A quiet day is planned for today! Hope everyone else has a good day-Happy Friday!

Went to the chiropractor today. I'm having an issue with what I think may be a pinched nerve affecting my upper thigh muscle. Before the hospitalization, I was going once a month. Now I'll go 3 x a week for a couple of weeks to get squared away.

Bombchell - what's the status with your car? I was thinking of you today. Sometimes your local union works out deals with local car dealerships - anything like that in your area??

Thanks, I've missed everyone here. It felt strange to be home today instead of teaching! LOL Didn't take long for me to get back in that routine. Have a sub job lined up for Thursday, but nothing else this week (yet.)

I'm having a good day, although I was up way too late last night with the football game, but I did sleep in this morning. I haven't knitted today yet; saving that for the football game tonight!

That's a lot of walking at work Chell!!

I've had a good day. I've been officially discharged from the PT. I've made dr.'s appt's for next week. I called the hospital to make an appt to get a chest xray, and was told, "Oh hon, you don't need an appt! Just come on in and we'll take care of you!" Excellent! I'm having my heating duct work cleaned tomorrow, and hopefully that will help with my winter allergies. Going with a girlfriend tomorrow afternoon to get my nails done, and there's a craft show on Sunday. Lot's to do! I'm feeling SO much better!!

Walked 3.5 miles at work

Finished my IEP and put in 1.5 miles before my students got there. Both my students were in trouble and did not arrive into my classroom an hour late. I worked on putting grades into the grade book for that time. I found out both my students were in trouble for fighting the day before so they split their time in In School Suspension. After all that it was a good day, very productive as I got to work w/ students one on one. Get this they are both suspended tomorrow so I'll be working on IEP tomorrow, lesson plans for my sub, and checking on my other students that are main streamed. I am very excited about a day at work where I can get things accomplished. I also tutored tonight, and got half of my Mom's cleaned too. It was a very productive day, but honestly I am tired.

Organizing stuff: If you can organize by topic, then binders work well. I'd invest in those clear page protectors that you can just slip the page in and out of. A less expensive solution is file folders. The biggest expense there would be for a filing cabinet, but many times you can get them at yard sales, or if you have a coupon that helps too. I have 2 tall filing cabinets in my classroom, and 2 short ones at home. I organize my folders by the year, starting (for me) in September and going through June. This way I can easily locate what I need.

Thanks, SCOOBY! That is helpful!

Are there any HS teachers out there? I am just wondering how much homework you assign. My daughter is a sophomore. She is in 3 advanced placement classes, plus one regular level class, Driver's Ed, and Band. She has been getting 4-5 hours of HW a night. She and her friends are all very smart and are "achievers", but all of them are very stressed. I am not sure if this is a normal amount of homework for 10th grade or if I should say something. Would I address a concern to the principal, department supervisors, or school board?

Binders are really helpful in the long run...by unit or topic usually. They can be time consuming but in the long run they make planning much quicker down the road. Also any online stuff, try "livebinders.com" and for any websites I recommend organizing with symbaloo.com Hope this helps!

Walked 3.5 miles today

I feel like I had a great day today! My one student was in school suspension and that was hairy getting him there but it's okay we did it. I finished typing my pre-conference observation during our assembly, it was 6 pages. (Not happy w/ all the time it requires (OTES)) Anyway I digress my principal liked it and is looking forward to observing me teach this Friday. Then I feel like my other student really learned today and I was able to finish typing my IEP that is due tomorrow. Then I headed to tutor my student but the parent cancelled after I was half way there, but I changed directions and headed to the next student I tutored. He was struggling today so I cut it short and then picked up my girls but still did not get home until 7:45 PM. Tomorrow my daughter has a dentist appt. then I must hurry back to work to keep score for volleyball until 8:30-9 PM. Just a busy week, but aren't they all?

Walked 3 miles at work today but my muscles are sore from strength training yesterday. I tried to make it a great day, I almost finished my lesson plans, will tomorrow, worked on the IEP but not completed yet, must finish my pre-observation tomorrow it is due Wed. Then my students were bickering and ended up pushing one another, I had to write referrals for both. It bothers me more than I can say, I lost my patience too. I just want to teach and allow them to grow and develop like strong young men that they can be. I had a meeting after work that lasted longer than I thought and pushed me to be late for tutoring, ah such is life. I tutored and grabbed the girls and finally walked into the house about 8:15 PM.

Strength training 20 min
Wii Tennis 25 min
Walking 2.5 mi in 55 min

Total 96 min

It was a fairly relaxing day. I started working on my pre-observation forms which is 4 pages long, it is due before Wed. I have an IEP due on Thur. I have a meeting after work tomorrow and tutoring too. I took my daughter around for her fundraiser as well! I managed to take the girls to church, clean my Mom's, and finish a bit of grocery shopping today as well. Yesterday I kept score for volleyball for 7 hours on sat too.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for how to organize all your teaching "stuff". I am a certified elementary teacher, but don't have a regular classroom yet. I have been subbing and collecting poster ideas, neat worksheets, etc. from the different classrooms I go to. All these papers are spilling out all over my home office. Since I don't know what grade I'll eventually be teaching, I also have tubs and tubs of children's books at all levels. How do you organize your resources - file folders, binders, etc.? Thanks for any help!
