Thank you, thank you all! [waving vigorously]

It really is good to be back. I was just telling somebody the other day that the Sarcastics Unlimited group was what I've missed most about SP.

The healthy eating and weight loss are in there, too, but having a group of people who "get" me...well, that's priceless.

Ahhhhh...this group...

I haven't gotten on the threads here for far too long, and I'm so glad I got the opportunity today. My gut is hurting from laughter.

Yes, Diane, I occasionally do research on things I post. If it happens that I am being a contributing member of Sarcastics Unlimited, what isn't true will have logical support, some of it real. Remember, the best lies are those which contain at least a kernel of the truth.

I am currently attempting to write a Christian fantasy book and I have names of Angels I've never heard before. Not only that, but I have a number for the "fallen" angels. It's rationally sound and is found in Revelations, however, the number itself is mathematically irrational because it has no upper boundary and the lower boundary is greater then what we can physically prove.

Now that you know that, and you know that I know that, it's probably not apparent that I had difficulties with differential equations, but I did. Stopped my career as a physicist flat in it's tracks. It was probably, no, undoubtedly, best that I didn't become a physicist. I know I would have been much more shy and introverted than I turned out to be. If that had happened, just think of how much so many people would have been deprived.

That one snicker I didn't cause; that one belly-laugh or snort that didn't happen; that one grin over morning coffee while reading Spark posts - all of those things that wouldn't have happened had I become a physicist could have changed the world.

Oh.....oh.....OH! My Gosh! It's my fault! I caused Obamacare!

I remember it well. I had just landed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport coming from Vietnam. That young girl who flinched when I started towards the crowd of booing, hissing, spitting mostly young people, before the AP's and MP's re-directed me. That was Barry Sotero's mother!

I can see why she was so frightened. Just looking at me in jungle fatigues, boots still smudged from stomping around in rice paddies, big, bushy, non-standard mustache, unshaven for the nearly two days it took us to fly from Vietnam. The snarling look on my face when I thought the crowd was going to attack MY men.

It's no wonder. The shock must have been felt down to her DNA level and an evil mutation, the mutation I caused, resulted later and expressed as Barry Sotero, AKA Barack Hussein Obama.

[Side note. Did you know that scientists have shown by experiment that all mutations result in an end that is terminal for the expressed mutant - disproving Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection completely? Giraffes have always had long necks.]

I'm So SORRY! I am devastated - I'm sure I'll never get over it. It's my fault insurance premiums have gone up and people can no longer see their old doctor. Me! I'm responsible.

I apologize; down on my knees at your feet. PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!!!!

I promise.....I promise I will do everything in my power to avert this monstrous boondoggle that has been perpetrated on the American people. Please? Just give me a chance!

Pleas.....wait a minute. Wait Just One Darn Minute! Maybe it was John Kerry's lying testimony before Congress that she saw on television. His lies were so enormous, I'm not sure how he got them out without choking. That's it!

John Kerry's lies WERE so big that Mrs. Sotero choked when she heard them! Which caused an air bubble to form in her bloodstream that wandered through her body until Barry was conceived. That same air bubble that might have stopped her heart was lodged in what later came to be Barry's brain - and THAT'S What Caused OBAMACARE. Well, that and the fact that Obama and Romney are cousins.

That even makes sense. Romneycare for the state he was Governor of was the inspiration. Barry took his older cousin's idea, copied from it extensively, added some legal mumbo-jumbo, tucked in a bunch of taxes, made it so the IRS could take your money even if you didn't want insurance and re-published it as His Own.

Plagiarism. Look everybody, PLAGIARISM! PLAGIARISM!

Remember, I did tell you I'd find a way to get my letter count back up. Only 0.63 remains to be made up.

I am always pleased when you make my point Popeye. Saves me the trouble of trying to word things nicely. I don't always do that well. I have even been known to go to your posts for fact gathering, They may be long but they are shorter than the number of entries you get if you ask Google. I trust you have always done your research so I have no fear in the facts.

I missed another reply to Maggie.

I'm proud to be known as the Champion of Shaggy Dog Soliloquies.

Sometimes, more than occasionally, when I post on a political website, I am accused by debaters who have chosen the opposite side, of verbosity.

I rejoice.

I have won.

I have flooded them with too many facts (with references) they can not overcome

I trace that ability back to when I was much younger and compassionate to the point I was concerned with swatting files. I overcame that weakness very early in my life. I was getting off a plane and the other debaters started slinging mortar round onto the runway.

When the Sargent who was directing the plane-load of newbies pointed out the shelters, I was in about 95th position (I sat at the rear of the plane). I was third into the bunker.

The first and second men into the bunker retrieved their cigarettes and lit up, as did the fourth person. Having been a non-smoker for over two years, I had neither the cigarettes or the means to light one. I bummed a cigarette off of #2 and a light from #4.

I was a pragmatic smoker from 1969 until the Spring of 1980.

I was encouraged to discontinue the habit in June of 1980 when I had a heart attack that required four bypasses. I've now been a non-smoker longer than my entire life, BHA (Before Heart Attack).

I did, however, maintain my pragmatism.

When I am reminded of the length of my replies on some threads (this is one of them) I try to be understanding and cognizant of the fact that others wish to add their comments, but first have to get through mine. Sometimes, I have received a SparkMail thanking me for covering the point they were going to address. I occasionally get the feeling that there might be an equal, or even larger, group that wished I hadn't made their point for them.

What can I say? There are times when I lapse into the habits of my youth and am more compassionate then I should have been.

I apologize.

Maggie, what you mean, "probably"?

Oh crap. my average post length just dropped an average of 1.43 letters. I'll figure out how to make up for it!

Yes, well, that's the long and the short of it. The rest of us fall somewhere in between.

I know Popeye and Mookie have been here longer than I. Neither fails to get a genuine emoticon from me when they post. (Yes, often to the point of tears.)

Mookball is short and snappy with her quips, and Popeye would probably win a longest average post prize. (Sal? She's ALWAYS coming up with the best prizes to give away.)

Never started a Popeye piece I didn't finish. He is usually right and always informative. I would say always right, but I don't want it to go to his head. I am sure I have deep dark thinks buried in my brain, but so far nothing has come to the surface that matters a hill of beans. I did remember the other day for one of my birthdays I got a toy called the hip flip. No idea where that came from lol. Maybe my hurting hip sent that message. Thanks Popeye

Blogging is something I do when I find something I feel that's worth sharing. Sometimes something I blog about reminds me of a time in my life, usually a step or two over the faint outline of the path of life.

I used to think that I was a pretty boring fellow, that nothing beyond the pale ever happened to me. That was before my sons told me they were reminded of Uncle Rusty (who passed away last Sunday night at 96 and less than two months after our Aunt Ione had passed. This year would have been their 74th Wedding Anniversary) whose stories about working in the oilfields and on the original pipelines in the 20's and 30's were absolutely fascinating. Relating to those things and remembering the history of those day's were totally unequaled.

I still occasionally curse that dam Chinese guy who told me, "May you live in interesting times". I can say that I have lived in interesting times and was very rarely have been bored. Bloodied, yes. Battered, yes. Scared spitless, oh yeah - once for 13 straight months. But it has been very rarely boring.

I have battled Clinical (sometimes called Chronic) Depression now for nine years (since I was diagnosed) and serious symptoms from more than 5 years prior that. For those five years, I still believed what I had been told when I was a youngster (that a mental health disease was the sign of weakness in men), and that had been reinforced since then. I used to have the speech from Patton, you know, the one at the start of the movie where he was ranting at an invisible audience about making the "other poor b@stard die for his country". He also addressed the cowardly cur who couldn't go back to the fight.

I've deleted that speech from my computer because I've found that there are a number of many small organs in my brain have been burned by adrenaline. The chemicals in my brain are measurable outside the range of normal. I no longer feel ashamed about this phase of my life (as others can tell you). I'm still as brave as I need to be in personal situations (and I've always been recognized as a bulldog [and sometimes the references have hinted I was actually closer to a pit bull]).

So I sometimes blog about things that I can remember, that at one time I couldn't remember because it was blocked. Occasionally when I respond to a talk with a friend - on the way home my wife of 42 years has told me, "I never knew that about you" or "I didn't know that ever happened to you". I pause and think, "Now why did that just pop back into my head after all of those years. Usually I can track it to something that wounded me emotionally at the time, but at other times I can find no reason why I would ever have wanted to block that particular memory.

For painful things (for me and at that point in my life) it was because I had put the hurtful memory into a safety deposit box in my head, locked it up in a stainless steel bank vault 6" of steel over, around and below the boxes inside, then a locked brick building. Occasionally I put something there that had attachments to another memory and it had inadvertently followed the painful memory into the brick building - or the vault.

So, my advice is that when you blog, if you can think of something you might have been hiding in the depths of your soul, pull it out and examine it in the hot bright lights of sunlight. It might help you as it has me. Chances are that that which you found so terrifying is shared by more than one of your Spark friends. Even if they haven't experienced it, they can empathize because it's something that happened to a family member or friend.

Emotions are never minutia or trivial.

"So, I woke up this morning after a dreamless night and I didn't feel rested at all. I got up, walked into the bathroom and (nope, that's TMI). I put on my big boy pants and stuffed my feet into my 12 year old "Jesus" boots and walked into the kitchen. I thought about which type of coffee I wanted this morning and finally decided on the vanilla flavored coffee. I took the coffee pot to the sink and filled it with water ........"

That's minutia. Or it could be a lead-in to a novel.

I've already got to the fifth chapter in writing a book, so that is totally not necessary.

But ....... whether you decide to blog or not - it's all your choice and we respect it.

Just FYI, sometimes my blogs are really short stories and humorous comments on something going on in society (that's a lie, my blogs are rarely very short - neither are my posts). Sometimes it's something that I just happened to stumble upon. such as that Santa had 10 reindeer on his Christmas ride (the one that was written about with Rudolph). I started checking to see how many other reindeer I could find, and I've gotten up to 27 with more references to search. There is one that Ray Stevens has named, Clyde. However I have a sneaky suspicion that upon deeper searching I will find a camel with fake antlers.

Anyway, those things are what get me started on a blog - maybe they'll help someone else realize there some serious things in their life they can talk about, or that there are things that will make other people laugh. As we all know, laughter is one of those things that is one of the best ways to strengthen your core.

I want to blog, really I do. But I am pretty sure the world can live without my tales of firewood, laundry and an occasional craft project. It makes me crazy that people feel the need to share the smallest details of their lives. So I will continue to not blog unless something monumental happens in my life, which means I will continue to not blog. If you see one from me you will know I have probably had some sort of break down and forgotten who I am

I agree with you guys--my life is pretty boring, saying I overate is getting (lately anyway)repetitious, or when I put the mind to the computer to compose, the words just fluff away, LOL. Ah well, just an observation.

our sarcasm doesn't lend itself to blog a lot ..... the spoken word is how we communicate the best....but feel free to let your heart blog away! and i haven't had my first cup of tea and I'm dealing with a leaky bathroom faucet right now emoticon

You know, as Sarcastics, we don't blog very much. Was looking at the scrolling list of blogs this morning, waiting for the coffee to actually start working and it hit me--not many people on the team do blog. Not saying it's bad, just an observation. Maybe I'd better go back to my emoticon !
