So, the stupid thing I witness constantly. I register patients and I have to list the reason that they are being seen. When I ask them what kind of symptoms they are having they say
"sick", again, I repeat the question telling them to be more specific. Once again, they tell me to list "sick"
emoticon In my head, I'm thinking Ummm, is stupid a symptom?

I thought that WAS the definition of Stupid: A condition that DENIES all logic.

It's like Darwin's Theory of Evolution which he even claimed would be disproved if just one error was found.

Using Darwin's own theory, a species change is made because of a need so that the species survives. The modified species moves on and the old species dies out, thus the prime branch carries on.

Humans are supposedly descended from Apes and chimpanzees.

It the Darwinian theory is correct, why are there still chimpanzees and apes?

During his life, Darwin did find the one thing that he said blew his theory into smoking pieces. It is the Human eye. There is no predecessor in either chimps or apes. The human eye is unique to ..... humans.

Then there are the odds. The chance that humans developed due to a random strike of lightning in the primordial ooze that produced a one celled organism is approximately the number of H2O atoms in the sea divided by the number of lighting strikes in any period over a short distance, multiplied by the chance of that one cell organism turning into a two cell organism, multiplied by how many times a cell had to be added to an organism before it developed a unique extremity designed to do one or two specific things, divide that by the number of cells in the organism and multiply that by the number of cells in an average body.

That's to get one human of one sex. To achieve another human similar enough to the first, but different enough to be sexually complementary are all of those multiples, times the square of 2.

Then, when you consider the odds involved that these two beings were close enough on the primordially earth to find each other, you must multiply the total sum by the square of the numbers of meters encompassing the earth.

I could buy that, with one exception. They claim this all happened by accident.

If you believe in logic, the a fore described could have been the process, but the end result must have been that the process was designed to produce a specific, distinct result - thus, Divine Intervention.

I have to stop and consider how hard it was for me to find my wife. Just looking at the odds of the last 10 random things for each of us that led us to meet, was unthinkable.

If anyone is interested, I'll tell that story at a later time, but I think I can stop here.

I'm pretty sure I answered on the MTV thread about horror movies.

Actually, I'm positive I did.

I don't think you will be disappointed. It includes videos and drums.

It doesn't usually happen every single day, but today I had the topper before noon.
We have had our concrete porch replaced and today they are sanding it so they can apply a special finish to the sides. They are using a gasoline powered sander to do the job.

At 10:45, the doorbell and I went to answer at the door.

The worker at the door looked at me (rather pleadingly I thought) and asked, "Do you have gas"?

I cocked my head (don't say a thing!), looked over my glasses and said, "No. As a matter of fact my stomach is perfectly fine".

He furrowed his brow and had that "deer in the headlights" look, then said, "Oh! No. Gasoline, I meant do you have any gasoline, you know, for our sander".

At that, I said, "In that case, sure - out in my gardening shed. I'll go get it for you".

When I handed him the gasoline can, I could tell by the look on his face he still hadn't been able to put two and two together to get anything closer than "more than three".

Wow Popeye, I didn't realize you have ties to up here. But it still is hickville. When my 2nd daughter went to prom, some of the teacher acted as valets and parked cars for the kids. One of the boys drove his tractor to prom. I feel sorry for whoever had to park that! But I thought that was kinda cool.

Actually I ignore most of the stupid stuff up here anymore.

the guys on this team are always good for interesting reads! Popeye is there a reason we missed the first post .... so you made sure we reread it? LOL It was quaint ... I may regret asking was is a Humongous ranch??

The dumbest thing today was a regional manager, that gave me a bad review because he was po'd at me! (previously we had a good relationship). Well I went off on him and ripped him a new one picking apart his whole unprofessional report! When I was done with him he asked for it back redid it and It was much improved and I signed it! It was rather funny! At one point my manager went to print the new one off and this manager said don't leave her alone with me! She's still mad at me! I told him next time your having your period and having a hissy fit talk to me about it don't stab me in the back ! I only got away with it because I'd filed a complaint about it and he wanted it gone because I could prove how unprofessional it was, and I am a chief union steward.

All this on my first day back from a 2 week vacation! now I need another vacation.

I'm late to this discussion - I was wandering around in the Ozarks totally in awe of the people(?) I met there.

Debbie, I must take exception to your claim that Lewistown is hickville. Hickville is a town you cannot find with a GPS, but is Definitely south of the Mason-Dixon line.

In the real Hickville, showing up to a graduation in cammo is a sign of great respect and Patriotism. If it is REAL cammo that has been worn in Iraq, or Afghanistan, regardless of its current condition, some people will actually salute the veteran as a sign of respect.

In the few cases where the person wearing real cammo is a single female, she will have at least five marriage proposals within 24 hours.

My dad's best friend owned a Humongous ranch outside of Lewistown and we visited him over three consecutive summers when I was 10, 11 and 12. He had two daughters - one a year older than I was and the second a year older than my younger brother. The thing is, they were girls, but they didn't act like girls. They seemed to be boys with braids and would climb trees, jump out the second story of a barn on to stacks of hay, go shooting prairie dogs for a whole day or ride across the ranch (part of it) and go skinny dipping in the river. I recognized girls were different back then, I was curios enough but my hormones hadn't started to fire up by then so it was just four buddies out doing what kids do ... did. I think kids today probably hit puberty around 7 or so.

Their mom was the 1st through 6th grade teacher and she taught in a real, clapboard schoolhouse with a big Ben Franklin stove for heat in the winter. It was a bit smaller than the school house on Little House on the Prairie, but it was a long time before the TV series.

I would describe Lewistown as ..... quaint. At the time, if we went into "town", there would be as many horse and buggies or wagons as cars parked around town. I can't remember if the guys with the cool black hats and beards were Mennonites or some other religion. I do remember their kids not wanting to talk much to a couple of California boys - we probably represented the devil to them, or something equally horrendous.

Each of the summers we spent there, my brother and I were really sad to have to go back to California and school. I wanted to go the the little schoolhouse for at least a semester. Mr and Mrs Seavers said it was O.K., but sadly, I couldn't talk my folks into letting me stay.

The only concern I have about Montana - totally a gorgeous state, is that winter seemed to run from the middle of September to the beginning of April, and that might be optimistic.

The dumbest I've seen today are kids who would rather be on a computer or texting instead of out enjoying our beautiful world.

I really enjoyed the discussion about a lug wrench and the link to understanding posted by Tomothy.

Wow! What a mix here ........... First that new aid to the Doctor ............. Kinda reminds me of when someone tries to relate about their Brother's neighbors second cousin's twin and step-child to Uncle Fred's first-born ............ member him? ................

Tim ................. Unwilling to move from his 'vegetative' state on the couch, my DH will say........... when I ask him where something is that is missing. (like today-the salt shaker had gone missing! ............ His reply:
"It's in the kitchen" ...........
Mine............ "WHERE in the kitchen?"
His: In the cupboard."
Mine: "No, it's not!"
His: "Yeh, last time I saw it it was in the cupboard in the kitchen."
Mine: "In OUR kitchen?"
His: "Well not the neighbors kitchen"
Mine: "Don't get smart!"
His: "I AM smart!"
suddenly .................
emoticon comes illuminating my already brilliant mind ............
"I think I MIGHT know where the salt shaker is."
"Where?" .......... (he asks)
"Right there UNDER the coffee table!" ....... (it was)
His: "Well I could have sworn I put it in the kitchen"..................
Mine: "WHERE in the kitchen??" ..................

emoticon

Mine was embarrassing Bob while I question a new aide of my doctor. He is so upset about this. I found out he was from Ottawa, has duel citizenship in Canada & the US. Single but his girlfriend has a tight hold on him. He was born in Russia and then his parents went to Canada.
I am sure I made him feel more comfortable and he was happy to share with me.

Ah yes, the tire iron/lug wrench. The name was familiar, but the description Chris gave was for 'adjustable,' correct?

I am in awe of this lengthy conversation between Timothy and She(WMBO). I am surprised at your questioning attitude! You should have just gone to the store and bought another 'whatever it was,' and cut your loses. That was just a temptation of fate, and you lucked out.

When I am missing something I ask a She(WMBO) if she's seen it. "I left it right here."

"Well, I put it away."
"But I left it here so I knew where it was."
"I got tired of looking at it so I put it away."
"OK. Please define 'away.'"
"Away! Out of sight. Where it is supposed to be."
"And where would that be?"
"If you had a place for your things and you would put them away there, we wouldn't need to have this conversation."
"On my desk was away. Why don't you tell me the real answer to my question?"
"What was your question?"
"Where did you put my stuff away to?"
"Um ..."
"You don't remember."
"I don't have a clue."

See, now, this may be a regional difference or your old man may just have his own peculiar names for things, but a lug wrench is the big bar you use to take the nuts off the wheel so you can change your tire.:

just got my hair done and now it's blonde, dark blonde and red. All chemical, none of the 3 colors are mine.

And my husband has a big one! (lug-wrench)

Chris, you are an exception to the female race (as am I).

He could have given a better clue...like calling it an "adjustable wrench."

It just reminds me of the times I ask my husband where 'blah-blah-blah' is, and he tells me, "It's in the garage." Well, he has at least eliminated the other seven rooms of the house. Thanks guy.

I am a chemically dependent blonde (for the moment). Haircolor has nothing to do with knowing tools. By the way what is an orange stick? Is it one of them little thingamabobbies that you use to push your cuticles back? Or is it something green colored that you use for scraping the zest out of oranges?

It is used to take off bolts it is shapped.like part if a hexagon and is adjustable. I am blond and I know what and how to use it! It comes indifferent sizes and they also make then so they come in sets and are not adjustable, mostly for working in tighter spaces as they are smaller.so there!

Let me clarify ............ I DO know what a Phillips screwdriver is .............. :) That is a 'no-brainer' and if he had asked for that, I would have retrieved it in a nano-second! ...... ..
(On the OTHER hand, no pun intended) .......... (Just sarcasm) ....... HE would not know if I asked him to fetch my 'orange-stick' ................... ...............

My husband sent me out to thge garage to "fetch" his "Lug-wrench" .......... (I will admit to being blonde--but refrain from saying I am also STUPID!!!! ........... I went thru every stinken tool in his box ............... Carefully examining and asking myself: "Could THIS be the one??" .............. After time passed, he finally got off his duff and found the silly thing .................. Moral of the story: DON'T ASK A BLONDE TO FIND A TOOL!!! ...........

I, a claustrophobe, was under the sink trying to get a nut off so I could change a broken faucet. Mike came in and asked if there was anything he could help me with.

"Sure, Mom wants the toilet seat in the little bathroom replaced."
"I don't know if I can do that."
"Two little nylon screws. Not rocket science."
"This better not take too long, I have to get Jackson from school in an hours." He babysits.
(If it takes and hour ...)

He take the seat with him. "How do I take the old one off?"
(With your f.u.c.k.i.n.g phaser.) "Just undo the two nylon screws in the back."

Next: "I opened the box. There aren't any instructions."
(Jesus Christ on a pogo stick!) "It's just two nylon screws on the back."
"Oh. But why no instructions?"
(Because not everyone is a dumb as a pile of pebbles.) "I suppose they figured just two nylon screws in the back was self explanatory."
"Oh look! Dad, this is funny. They have instruction on the outside of the box. It was really pretty easy. I didn't need any instructions. It was just two nylons screws in the back."
(Somebody ought to you two nylon scr ... never mind.)

I suppose the had to cover even the option that a pile of pebbles WOULD be replacing a toilet seat.

Once talked to a young couple who were having trouble keeping up with their bills and their phone had been disconnected. I felt sorry for them, but the next time we talked they had gone to the fair where I'm sure they spent a lot of money. They were so happy they had both gotten pagers at the fair. (This was before everyone had cell phones). I didn't even bother to ask them how they were supposed to call someone when they got paged! But I didn't feel sorry for them anymore.
