Tips on staying with it? ........... Plain old VANITY works .......... Suck it up whenever you get a compliment ............. And don't tell anyone I said this ............. cos it is old and maybe even a little lame ............ BUT negative self talk never works for the good, so when you look in the mirror, find what is GOOD and tell yourself positive things that reinforce your wanting to stay with it .............. yada yada .............. Yu get the drift? .............. emoticon Ok try this first thing in the morning ........... (Bed hair, and all)

"Wow!! Am I ever beautiful!"
"I can see BEAUTY SLEEP REALLY DOES work!"
"Those peeps weren't kidding at work when they said they see a change."

No...seriously???

Did I really say that just a short 23 months ago? Dis-gus-ting! I was so peppy and hopeful.

Notice nobody cared.

Confession time...which one of these sappy things are you guilty of? I do eat Skinny Cow on occasion.

The best motivator I've found is looking at the results so far and not wanting to mess it up. It really makes me think twice about what I eat.

Duncted.... for motivation... call on a buddy or two.

A walk outdoors with a buddy in the morning... one in the evening.. which ever works for you...I personally prefer mornings...cause after I get my heart going...and my muscles woke up... I'm more motivated to workout even if I'm alone after my walk.

But having that buddy system is the best for me!

TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

I am lucky in that part of what I do for a living is fitness. It makes it easier but, I still push myself to workout beyond work. We get in our pool late in the day and besides swimming, I waterjog...it's a great low impact workout.

You have a lot more on your plate than I do at this point in my life. Still, it's a choice you have to make. Who is going to take care of your animals and teach wonderful things to your niece if you become debilitated? You are important too because, you are important to those in your life that need and depend on you.

My kids are older now but I use to volunteer with school & scouts and get involved in all sorts of large projects in our town. Now I am way more selfish with my time...as you say there are only so many hours in the day. And there are only so many years in your life.

Thanks for the great ideas, guys!

Penny-Yes, I do bike, but the bike's broke right now :( I opened the pool yesterday, so it'll be ready to start swimming by tomorrow! That'll help because my nice LOVES to swim (she's part fish, I'm convinced!)

I also got a lot of really great ideas from another list. One of them, which I never thought of, was to mix sugar free Jello with fat free whipped cream & then pour into popicle moulds in the freezer! I used to LOVE the Jello pops when I was a kid, I never thought to do this! This would also be a great project for my niece to do too! She's interested in cooking already & since her parents don't, Grandma & I will be the ones to teach her! Great opportunity!

Motivation is really the key for me. I don't like when it's REALLY hot out. Mid-70's and I'm happy. Anything more & forget it. I'm in the a/c. (asthma acts up in the wonderful humid Michigan weather).

Ok, here's another question for you all:
HOW do you make time for yourself? We're all pretty busy & though I don't have children to chase after, I do have 5 dogs at home. 1 is young, so he requires a lot of attention, one is a foster dog that I'm trying to train & find a home for & one is sick with cancer & is on chemo...so he requires a lot of attention. I'm finding it harder & harder for me to actually find time for MYSELF. I've tried to schedule "ME TIME" in, but it's hard. I'm also trying to fit in a lot after work & it's to the point that I'm only getting the minimual done before I pass out!

For example, I worked until 6 last night, didn't get home until 7. By the time I let the dogs out, fed them, put away dishes, tossed in a load of laundry, changed out of my dress clothes & went thru the mail, it was already 8pm. Then I went outside, cleaned up the yard, started to get the pool ready & then let the dogs back out to play for a bit, it was 9pm. I went back in, started dinner, switched out laundry, vaccumed the house, gave the one dog his chemo treatment & I looked it was 10pm. I ate dinner at 10 pm! That's terrible! I jumped in the shower & was in bed by 11, stayed awake until 12 watching tv. No wonder I can't get up at 6 for work & was late this morning!!!

So, with all of that, how do you find ME time. That's a normal day for me, unfortunately. See, Rose, that's why I'm not meeting you on Thursday's to walk! It's not YOU, really (vbg), but I'm THAT busy every night! If it's not the pool, it's dog training class (like tonight & tomorrow). I won't be home from class until 11 tonight & tomorrow. Thursday, it'll be picking up where I left off (laundry, dishes, house work, etc). There's only so many hours a day.

What gets me...and I know many of you might be thinking the same...is that everything I do counts as exercises. I get that, but the weight's not coming off. It's frustrating!

Thanks for listening to me, guys :)

Although not a cone, I like the breyers light ice cream too. I put either blueberries or bananas on top. I'm not giving it up either! lol! Another thing-Popsicles-if you can afford them-the ones that are made out of juice instead of just sugar water or even better-get some Popsicle sticks from Michael's and have your neice help you "make" popsicles. Pour juice into small dixie cups and pop them in the freezer. Seems more like a treat than healthy! Also, bananas and blueberries are good frozen...You get the idea! lol!

As far as exercise-I try to enjoy the weather and take advantage of it being in Michigan we gotta do that! lol Sparks has the feature under the fitness button that if you walk you can put in your route, how long it took you and they will tell you how much you've walked and the calories you've burned. So, take different routes and it should spice up the workout routine. You would be amazed at the stuff you see that you normally wouldn't if you drove the route instead of walked it!

I'm on a low-crap diet and a get-off-your-butt exercise plan.

I was gonna suggest the Skinny Cow treats in the freezer section too. I haven't had a chance to try them but I get Hungry Girl emails most days and those folks there sing Skinny Cow praises.

Try using WW popsicle or surghar free ones. Skinny Cow also makes some great products, delicious and calorie controlled. Not as bad as having a lot of ice cream in the house.

Try eating some fruit before eating the ice cream....something that will fill you up. And then some fruit ON the ice cream. I wouldn't give it up either.

Do you like to bike?

Ok so it's week 3 of my "Biggest Loser Challenge" from another team and I've kinda lost a bit of motivation. I'm doing some cardio throughout the week, but it's things that I have to do normally: Laundry in the basement, mowing the lawn, gardening, walking the dogs, teaching class, running the dogs in class...but I've kinds slacked off doing actual planned exercise sessions.

I know that it all counts, but I've slacked off on my weight training & walking on my treadmill (which happens to be in the basement.) for doing things outdoors. Can you blame me?

When I get my pool opened, I'll be swimming, so that'll help; but how do you guys stay motivated to keep with your routine? I get bored easily & whenever I find myself plodding aimlessly thru a pattern, I usually stop.

Also-what are your tips for eating healthier during the summer? I know that cool salads are a mainstay for me during the summer (I'm vegetarian), but I'm finding it really difficult not to just eat ice cream for dinner! LOL

My niece was over this weekend (she's almost 4) and I always keep a stash of popicles & ice cream for her at my house since her mom's finicky with things like that. So, this weekend, we had a good dinner of salad & I made her some chicken, then we had ice cream. After that she wanted popicles while outside playing with the dogs. Then she wanted MORE ice cream. I don't want to deny the kid of anything at my house & I know that she won't wind up with bad eating habits since it's rare that she gets the 'treats'. She also chooses to eat salad, yogurt, cheese, fruit & veggies vs. chips, candy & crap. She really does. She LOVES coming to my house because I've always got watermelon or grapes or strawberries for her to snack on. I also have raspberry bushes & veggie plants for her to pick cherry tomatoes & cucumbers from.

So, any good ideas to help quelch the ice cream demons? (That's one thing that I WON'T give up on my diet-Ice Cream. Problem is, it's hard to stop!)
