What probably happened, just going by the "structure" and "tone" of the apologies, it came as a distinct shook the the massive Silent Majority growled back.

I can't remember when a late night host has had to so deeply acknowledge that what he did/said was totally out of line - and since I was born in the first half of the last century, I've seen a lot (starting with Edward R. Murrow).

Letterman's "attack dog" proclivities towards conservatives of any type found that there is always a bigger dog.

Sarcasm is definitely funny. Some people may not get it, but it's funny.

At this point in time, Mr. Letterman has provided the country with a full apology and has publicly stated that suggesting a child be raped was a stupid thing to do.

Regardless of how you fell about politics (all of it makes me sick - the Dems are just Repubs in fake fur and vice versa), Letterman went way beyond the attack dog he was during the election.

Putting shoes on the feet of others makes me wonder how good ole Dave would react if someone publicly suggested his child be raped.

He should at least have done his homework before he fired off the comment.

Hehe...I actually did meet Obama while he was on the campaign trail. I told him one of the most embarrassing things I had ever done politically is walk around neighborhood shouting Reagan slogans. He asked when that happened and I told him I only did it because all my friends were doing it...I was eight. We talked about some real issues to, but I remember all someone had to do was tell me Reagan was a Republican and I started to cry. This was maybe three days before he was elected to office and I'm not sure of my age, I was in the third grade.

AHHHH Good ol' Ronnie Raygun... the man who began the deregulation of banks; the man who gave tax breaks to the rich and raised middle income taxes 3 times; the man who de-funded the infrastructure of the U.S.; the man who took money away from education and health services; the man who busted up unions.
I don't miss him at all and consider him one of the worst Presidents we ever had, but, that's just me.
