BlackHeart (She who must be obeyed) has requested (nicely I might add) that we discontinue this thread.

As a full time scuzzy wumpus, I was having so much fun I didn't detect the slight shift from sarcasm to bitterness.

I completely apologize and will fight to their death anyone whose rights I have trampled on - and at no point was I trying to be mean or vinegary.

Blackheart, you should know by now that of all people here, I enjoy tap dancing on third rail type of issues, but you did ask us to drop it so I'll drop the topic, but first...

A small story to highlight that we can respect and follow a leader and at the same time, talk all sorts of crepe about him:

This came from PBS: In WW II on a a long forgotten island, the American and Japanese forces were locked in a stand off. Battle lines were drawn with no progress either way for days. One day, someone on the American side, grabbed a loudspeaker and handed it to a Japanese speaking soldier. He started telling the Japanese all sorts of vile things that basically translated down to Emperor Hirohito was at home bedding their women while they fought and died here. This enraged the Japanese who charged straight into machine gun fire and died. The next day, the Americans did it again. Same result, a bunch of really angry soldiers incensed at their leader's honor being questioned, running out of cover dead. The third day the Japanese thought they would try the same thing so they got their own loudspeaker and said "Americans were fools because FDR was bedding all of their girls while they fought here." From the American side no charge but a lot of laughter. Finally a private yelled out, "We knew that. Why else do you think he sent us here?"

The point is respect for our leaders and lampooning them are part and parcel to American life.

If I remember correctly, and I'm so old I might not, but the Queen and her heirs have nothing inherently political in the happenings of great Britain.

I'm a hard core Republican, but when someone does something stupid, I think he/she deserves some scathing sarcasm.

I'm a combat vet who would give my dying breath for our country or our Commander in Chief - that doesn't mean I can't laugh at him or Senator Obama.

As far as "badmouthing" our country and its policies, you only have to look at the Dixie Chicks and the hammering they took and the money they lost when they spouted off - in Great Britain I believe.

Has anyone seen the article today about the last joke that our good friend, George Carlin, has pulled on us?

I've got a few things to tell them myself!

Sarcatics Anonymous is not a team to be airing our political differences. We all have varying degrees of opinions regarding our political state.

SparkPeople was not set up for this type of debate and discussion.

I think there are a few teams on SP specifically for this type of conversations but I don't believe it belongs on the SA team.

SA was set up for people to come here and have a fun time without the pressure of challenges and potentially heated debates.

I don't want to lose anymore members because of offensive comments made about our President or these United States.

So please, I humbly ask that we let this thread die out.

I am not fond of President Bush's policies, or of the job that he has done.

That being said, I think that everyone should respect the POSITION, the OFFICE, and not bad mouth our politicians to other countries. It's inappropriate. As is this post. This is a health and wellness site, not a political arena.

I don't hink the Brit's would think too highly of us posting rude notes about their queen or princes!

Russ,

With that attitude, you must be one of the most conservative people in Northern California.

I bet you have them so confused they burn pink crosses in front of your place.

P.S., and serious. I came across a limited edition sunshade celebrating San Diego Padres Triple AAA days in the PCL. I'm in the process of finding out just how "limited" the limited edition was.

If it's evenly moderately rare, would you be interested? My charge to you would be postage only, none of that handling, and I got it at a good price - $0 - which I would pass on to you, plus 10%.

The Bridge to Nowhere was a Republican project. The Big Dig was a Democrat project. The major similarity between them is they both spent a boatload of money for no reason. I don't think either side truly has the people's interests at heart which is why we should change them early and often, like diapers.

The first time I think people were tired of Clinton.

The second time, Kerry allowed himself to be caught up in swiftboat politics.

What I think of Bush would take far too much time to write here and would involve a fair amount of swearing.

Oh,

JUSTCAT, do you think the Democratic party gives a rat's ass about their constituency?

I can show you a bridge in Alaska, funding for which was pushed through by the Democrats. Unfortunately, it goes nowhere.

Most likely, if he were tried for treason. he would be declared innocent by reason if insanity,

As to how he won, read the U.S. Constitution. The popular vote means not a whit. It's the Electoral College who decides the Presidency and that's where he won.

Re-counting votes in Florida meant absolutely nothing. After appointed to the Electoral College, the members can vote any way they like and are NOT bound by the popular vote of their constituency.

Start a movement to change the Constitution if you want the popular vote to count (just don't expect 2/3 of the States to ratify it - they'd be giving away even more power than Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court have taken from them.

Just FYI, as a Republican, Bush has been the greatest disappointment since Nixon - who was definitely a crook. Actually, he has spent more money on pork barrel projects then most Democrats.

Just sayin' . . .

Speaking of the government, why should someone who serves only one term in Congress be allowed to draw a salary for life? I never could understand that retirement plan.

Personally, I think he is guilty of betraying his oath of office, therefore he is a traitor and should be impeached at the very least.
