The living food lifestyle worked so well for me last year and getting away from it in the fall has illustrated it superiority to what I practiced from September 2011 to today. I went back on to cooked foods, stopped being 100% vegetarian, and stopped my long distance rowing program. Forty pounds later, I and moving back to what worked: raw food and more exercise. This time I won't row for long distance, but do a combination of HIIT rowing, strength training, walking and gardening.

The following is from Dr. Gabriel Cousens' website, I give a link at the bottom of the page. It is shared here for your information and to inspire you to read further and better understand the many approaches to a health with the Live Organic Vegan Energy Lifestyle.

"ABOUT LIVE FOOD CUISINE:

"The live-food dietary approach promoted by the Culture of Life and prepared at the Tree of Life Cafe is a sattvic/kedusha, vegan, organic, live-food, high-mineralized, low-sugar, individualized diet, eaten in moderation, with adequate pure living water hydration, and intermittent Spiritual Fasting. Now that's a mouthful! Want to know more?

"A sattvic/kedusha diet is a holy diet. Sattva is a Sanskrit word for calm, peaceful, and steady. Kedusha is a Hebrew word for holiness. Holy food is prepared with love and consumed mindfully. The chef prays or chants or is silent while making the meal. The food is blessed before being served. The enjoyer of the meal does so with gratitude, humility, and proper chewing. This mental attention to the meal imbues it with Divine energy, and ensures that it will be used to draw the one eating it toward God.

"Vegan nutrition is plant-source only. It is the diet prescribed to man in Genesis 1:29, "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food." Vegan food is essentially fruit, leaves, and nuts and seeds. Vegan food is not meat, dairy, eggs, or any animal products.

"Organic food is grown without herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, synthetic fertilizers, and genetically modified organisms. Organic food is grown naturally using natural fertilizers such as compost. Organic farms utilize beneficial insects and birds to control pests and disease. Organic farms rotate crops, till, hand weed, or mulch to manage weeds.

"Live-food is literally ALIVE. Live-food has never been heated over 105 degrees. That means all the enzymes, vitamins, and minerals are completely in tact and ready to be used by the body. Live-food are bio-genic and bio-active foods. Biogenic foods are raw or sprouted seeds, nuts, grains, and grasses, and are the most potent life-force foods. Bioactive foods are vegetables, fruits, mature seeds, nuts, grains, beans, legumes, sea vegetables, and algaes.

"A highly mineralized diet is a diet containing ample quantities of high quality minerals. Foods like wheatgrass, grown in diluted sea water solution, contain all known minerals necessary for sustaining life. Sea vegetables contain many trace minerals that aid in basic biological functions. The body is made of minerals, so it is important to consume enough mineral-rich food to build a healthy body.

"The Tree of Life promotes a low-glycemic diet. Research has shown that a diet low in sugar promotes clean, healthy blood. According to Dr. Dan Engle, the Tree of Life's resident physician, "A low sugar diet is the basis for healing diets and protocols. It assists in lessening inflammation and offers the body the opportunity to maximize the effectiveness of the immune system, rebalance and strengthen the hormonal system, and quiet the mind.”

"An individualized diet is the diet that works for you. Within the context of a low-glycemic, live-food, vegan diet, it is important to consider your dosha (genetic predisposition), rate of oxidation, and level of activity. We are all unique, and we each must eat to support our special needs.

"Moderate eating means under-eating. Research has shown that a degree of caloric restriction adds years to one's life. Being mindful what we need to eat verses what we want to eat out of habit or attachment, promotes abundant energy and robust health, as well as peaceful emotions, and a quiet mind.

"Adequate hydration with pure living water is vital for health. Pure spring water is ideal, but distilled water, vitalized and re-activated with ionic minerals, prayers, and starlight is great if a clean spring is too far away. Sufficient water cleanses the body, supports the kidneys, and provides substance for intra- and extra-cellular fluids.

"Finally, for optimal physical and spiritual health, Gabriel recommends regular Spiritual Fasting. Fasting for a week to ten days, at the change of each season purifies the body, mind, and spirit. It can be a powerful catalyst for reversing aging, clarifying intentions, and communing with the Divine.

RESOURCES FOR MORE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE FOUND HELPFUL:

When I decided to set restoring my health as my primary goal almost 5 years ago, by using Brian Tracy's book, Goals, I investigated many approaches. I have been interested in health and nutrition for many years and had started and stopped many diets. My problem and the problem with many approaches is that it and they are not holistic. Our health is a combination of food, exercise, psychology, and spiritual approaches, bundled into a what we call a total lifestyle change, not a temporary change. Making short term changes and going back to what has always failed us before is the reason that many of us have health problems that are based on making poor lifestyle choices.

The resources that I have found to be the most helpful are:

Brian Clement, the Co-Director of the Hippocrates Health Institute has written many good books. The Hippocrates Health Institute is located in West Palm Beach, Fl and offers a program of medical testing, psychological evaluation, and a short term residential program to educate people about their health, show them how to prepare great raw food, and exercise. They also do follow ups on all of their clients as part of an ongoing research into the optimum health approach.
http://www.hippocratesinst.org/

Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, a endocrinologist in Santa Barbara who now devotes her time to teaching other medical practitioners and writing books; The Schwarzbein Principle series, cookbooks, and CD's on exercise. http://www.schwarzbeinprinciple.com/pgs/dr
_schw/schwarz_bio.html

Dr. Joe Mercola, he has been in the forefront of doing research on alternative approaches to restoring our health and maximizing the quality of our lives. When you join his free site, he makes available a large number of downloadable free reports that are very informative. He is not a 100% Live Organic Vegan, but promotes eating 80% of our diet from Live Organic Vegan food, has a great program for maximizing the benefits of exercise, why some so called health foods are really not that healthy, etc. http://www.mercola.com/

Dr. Gabriel Cousens, a psychiatrist who is a 100% Live Organic Vegan who teaches and does research on the benefits of this dietary approach. I have not read his books, but I have watched a lot of his talks on YouTube.
http://www.gabrielcousens.com/HOME/tabid
/1804/language/en-US/Default.aspx

Paul Nison, he is a Live Organic Vegan who writes and lectures on optimum health. He has a unique scriptural based approach to healthy living in addition to interviewing and writing about many approaches to healthy living. He has an online show called The Raw Life Health Show.
http://paulnison.com/health-show/

Kevin Gianni who has an online site called The Renegade Health Show. He interviews many guest who present different view points on health and nutrition. http://renegadehealth.com/blog/

Mike Adams has a newsletter called NaturalNews in which he presents articles on health and nutrition. I successfully followed his recommendations in his e-book called How to Halt Diabetes in 25 Days. He has very strong opinions and is passionate about presenting them.
http://www.naturalnews.com/

Most of these sites sell some products and I believe that all of them are ethical and they believe in what they sell and it is a way to pay for the expense of having great informational sites. I don't buy from them or have any affiliate connection to any of them, but I have learned a lot from their various presentation.

Most of these experts have lecture on YouTube, some in a series of 10-12 10 minute segments that are very informative.

Brian Clement Lecture - Notes

4/27/96 Notes by Tom Billings

Brian Clement, Director of Hippocrates Health Institute, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, gave a talk on Saturday April 27, 1996 at the San Francisco Whole Life Expo. The talk was titled "Anti-Oxidants in Whole Living Foods"; however it was really a more general talk on living foods lifestyles.

Brian speaks quickly, and my notes contain only a portion of his excellent talk. If you have the chance to her him speak, it is certainly worthwhile! There was little redundancy with his talk last year, so I am typing up my notes so they are available to others. Also, the notes are given here without any editorial notes/comments from me. I hope you find this of interest!

Notes.

Brian began in his usual style - by asking the group to sing along with him. He then discussed the early days of Hippocrates, with Viktoras and Dr. Ann. Although Hippocrates is best known for helping critically ill people regain their health through diet and lifestyle, the current customer base is approx. 50% healthy people who want to stay healthy, and live better quality lives.

Brian has a new book in progress; the topic is increasing personal energy levels; also a new recipe book is in progress.

Brian defined living foods, (for those in audience who didn't know), as foods that are vegetarian and raw. Each food has a different energy vibration level. Hippocrates is working on developing ways to match an individual`s energy needs with the energy levels of foods. In a new book to be published in June, "Living Food", there are (color) Kirlian photos of food, showing their energy levels. A piece of raw romaine lettuce has a small aura, 0.5 inches around it, of green color - a moderate quality living food. The same lettuce, when cooked, has no aura = no energy. Raw sunflower greens, and wheatgrass, have large auras, 2 feet around them, and the aura has the colors gold, white, and purple. The same items, after being cooked, have no aura. Raw meat shows brown energy, going in; cooked meat has a black aura - it sucks energy from you. This shows that you don't have to eat meat for it to drain your energy!

Generation X is sicker, on a per-capita basis, than people 65+ years of age. The 65+ group has more life threatening disease, but generation X has more general disease - things like AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc. Brian then briefly discussed the rise of new diseases; he said that AIDS might mutate into an air-borne disease at some time in the future.

Today people want to go beyond health, to find happiness. If you are ill, you should be on a 100% raw food diet, for 1.5+ years. Approx. 97% of people who go on the Hippocrates diet get well within 1.5 years, 3% need longer. Hippocrates has blood profiles done, at beginning and end of their stay at Hippocrates, for all visitors. They are building a data base for study.

If you are well, you can eat 75% by weight raw foods, mostly greens and sprouts, and a maximum of 25% *clean* cooked foods (steamed veggies, pasta). You should consume, twice daily, two green drinks (12 ounces); the drink should be 50% green veggies (NO carrot juice - too much sugar), and 50% sprouts. Thus at a meal, you can drink 16 oz. green drink, eat 0.5 lb. salad, and then you can eat 0.5 lb. clean cooked food if you want; this gives 25% cooked by weight.

There are lots of benefits from wheatgrass; similar benefits come from kamut grass, spelt, barley, rye; might get same benefits from lambsquarters, other bitter weeds such as dandelion greens. A recent Israeli study found certain anti-oxidants in wheatgrass that attack and kill cancer cells, while promoting red blood cells and hemoglobin. Wheatgrass and sunflower greens provide complete protein.

Vitamins are not important. Even on a junk food veggie diet, you will get all the vitamins you need. Minerals are important. You should consume sea veggies 3-5 days per week. If you don't like the taste, take them in tablet form. The most important element is oxygen, as you will quickly die without it. You get this from breathing; oxygen levels are down 50% from 100 years ago. Also, you stop breathing when under stress - and there is a lot of stress in modern life.

You need enzymes! Enzymes give food the aura, the electrical field. Raw foods are charged, and can attract enzymes. (A Nobel Prize was awarded early this century for research that showed that the electrical charge attraction of enzymes enables digestion.) Why do we age? Cells die every day but if you are healthy, you grow new cells. After 20, you are in trouble if you don't eat raw food. Aging = cells die and are not replaced. What you create in the body = your attitude, your faith (not necessarily religious faith). Recovery is first and foremost a spiritual process; the physical matters are secondary!

Fruit. Fruit is NOT the ideal diet. We learned this the hard way. We noticed that people with certain diseases - diabetes, candida, hormonal cancers, and others, did *not* get well when on a diet that was high in fruit. We had to abandon fruit, and it created political problems for us, as we foolishly recommended it for years.

Modern fruit has 30 times the sugar level of its wild ancestors. This is because fruit is hybridized for sugar content; we are all addicted to sugar. The 2nd problem with fruit is the pancreas. 100 years ago, we consumed 2.5 pounds of sugar per year; now we consume 124 pounds per year. There is no difference between fructose from an orange, and from a sugar beet. California carrot juice is too high in sugar also; 1 quart has 0.5 cups of sugar in it.

Get off fruit! If you are *very* healthy, both physically and emotionally, you can eat a maximum of 15% fruit. That means 1 apple juiced, with 1 cup water added, not 6 apples juiced to make 1 cup of pure juice.

Rejuvelac. We used to call it rejuve-rot. It is not a Hippocrates invention, it is a traditional drink from the Baltic countries. We used it in the past because we thought it had lacto-bacteria. We paid for a study on rejuvelac; we naively thought the fermentation would always be good bacteria. The study found that this was not the case; 40% of the batches tested were good, 60% were bad. Also, you cannot tell by the smell if the bacteria are good or bad. Instead, you can use acidophilus supplements, and they can be taken as implants also.

Q: Are there any veggies you cannot eat raw? A: No. You should eat spinach raw. Don't eat raw rhubarb or white potatoes (hard to digest). All other veggies should be eaten raw, not cooked.

Q: What about meat? A: In cooked meat, the fat molecules burst and are carcinogenic. That is true for vegetable oil also, including olive oil. Meat is not a complete protein. There are 8 times the protein deficiencies among meat eaters compared to vegetarians.

Q: Are sunflower sprouts/greens toxic? A: No, that is complete nonsense. People eat sunflower greens and recover from serious diseases.

One of the best sources that I have found for information about raw food is the Raw Life Health Show with Paul Nison. He has written many books on eating raw food and has a daily show that you can get access to for free for a limited time as a free subscriber or get permanent access as a paid subscriber. The web site is at: http://www.Rawlifehealthshow.com Paul Nison travels a lot with his wife, Andrea, and daughter and lectures widely on eating raw life. You can find many older videos on YouTube also.

Non-Human Molecule Is Absorbed By Eating Red Meat According To Study By UCSD Researchers
ScienceDaily (Sep. 30, 2003) — A non-human, cellular molecule is absorbed into human tissues as a result of eating red meat and milk products, according to a study by researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, published online the week of September 29, 2003 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers also showed that the same foreign molecule generates an immune response that could potentially lead to inflammation in human tissues.
Several previous studies have linked ingestion of red meat to cancer and heart disease, and possibly to some disorders involving inflammation. However, that research has primarily focused on the role of red-meat saturated fats and on products that arise from cooking. The UCSD study is the first to investigate human dietary absorption of a cell-surface molecular sugar called N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc), which is found in non-human mammals. Not produced in humans, Neu5Gc occurs naturally in lamb, pork and beef, the so-called "red meats". Levels are very low or undetectable in fruits, vegetables, hen's eggs, poultry and fish. (see * below)
Conducting laboratory studies with human tissue, followed by tests in three adult subjects, the UCSD team provided the first proof that people who ingest Neu5Gc absorb some of it into their tissues. In addition, they demonstrated that many humans generate an immune response against the molecule, which the body sees as a foreign invader.
The study's senior author, Ajit Varki, M.D., UCSD professor of medicine and cellular and molecular medicine, and co-director of the UCSD Glycobiology Research and Training Center, said that although it is unlikely that the ingestion of Neu5Gc alone would be primarily responsible for any specific disease, "it is conceivable that gradual Neu5Gc incorporation into the cells of the body over a lifetime, with subsequent binding of the circulating antibodies against Neu5Gc (the immune response), could contribute to the inflammatory processes involved in various diseases."
He added that another potential medical barrier related to Neu5Gc might occur in organ transplantation.
"Over the past decade, the number of patients waiting for organ transplantation has more than tripled, with little increase in the number of donor organs. This has led to an exploration of using animal organs for transplantation into humans, a process called xenotransplantation," Varki said. "However, the leading donor candidate is the pig, an animal in which Neu5Gc happens to be very common. The current study raises the possibility that human antibodies against Neu5Gc might recognize the Neu5Gc in the pig organ and facilitate its rejection."
In describing the research approach taken by his team, Varki explained that humans do not produce Neu5Gc because they lack the gene responsible for its production.** And yet, other researchers have reported small amounts of Neu5Gc in human cancer tissues.
To verify the existence of Neu5Gc in human cancers, Varki's collaborator, Elaine Muchmore, M.D., UCSD professor of medicine and associate chief of staff for education at the San Diego VA Healthcare System, developed an antibody that would be attracted by, and bind to Neu5Gc on tissue samples. The antibody was purified by Pam Tangvoranuntakul, B.S., the study's first author and a Ph.D. student in Varki's lab.
Working with Nissi Varki, M.D., UCSD professor of pathology and medicine, Tangvoranuntakul found that the antibody stained not only human cancers, but also some healthy human tissues. They found that small amounts of Neu5Gc were present in blood vessels and secretory cells, such as the mucous membranes. A further chemical analysis by Sandra Diaz, a Varki research associate, confirmed the presence of Neu5Gc in human tissue.
Meanwhile, an analysis of healthy human tissue by postdoctoral fellow Pascal Gagneux, Ph.D., and Tangvoranuntakul determined that most people had circulating antibodies in the blood that recognized Neu5Gc, and thus could potentially initiate an inflammatory immune response.
In the absence of any known molecular mechanism that would produce Neu5Gc in humans, the group reasoned that the small amounts of Neu5Gc found in human tissue could arise from human ingestion of Neu5Gc in dietary sources. Postdoctoral fellow Muriel Bardor, Ph.D., showed that when human cells in culture were exposed to Neu5Gc, they easily absorbed and incorporated it onto their own surfaces.
However, to study the possibility of dietary absorption, it was necessary to carry out an ingestion study in healthy people. Because the researchers were hesitant to give a potentially harmful substance to humans, Ajit Varki volunteered to be the first subject, followed by Muchmore and Gagneux.
When the three volunteers drank Neu5Gc purified from pork sources and dissolved in water, there were no immediate ill effects. An analysis of the volunteers' urine, blood, serum (the clear liquid that can be separated from clotted blood), hair and saliva, both before ingestion and regularly for several days after, determined that the human body eliminates most of the Neu5Gc, but retains and metabolically absorbs small amounts of the foreign sugar. At approximately two days following ingestion, the Neu5Gc levels were two to three times the baseline level prior to ingestion. By four to eight days following ingestion, the levels had dropped nearly to baseline.
The authors cautioned that a causal relationship between Neu5Gc expression in human tissues with any human disease would be premature and scientifically speculative at best. Instead, they said their findings point to the need for population-level analyses of the presence of Neu5Gc in human tissues in relationship to disease incidence, and the mechanisms of human incorporation and antibody response against this sugar.
The study was supported by grants to Varki from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Charitable Foundation. Some human studies were done in the UCSD General Clinical Research Center, which is also supported by the NIH.

I've switched back to all live vegan foods for the spring and I am enjoying quick results in my weight loss. I just read a blog by Dr. Mirkin from his ezine today, which I posted as a Blog on my page. He talks about the need to "Restrict Protein, Not Just Calories to Prolong Life." The research has shown that Protein Restriction may be more important to long life than Calorie Restriction. It appears that even fat vegans have better blood lipid health than thin protein eaters. It is an interesting article. One doesn't have to give up protein, it is just not as important as we have been lead to believe and it can come from all vegetable sources. If you eat fish, mammal, or poultry sources, it is good to limit the amounts if you wish to have a long healthy life.

When making a change to a new lifestyle, it is often easier to approach it incrementally until it becomes natural. If you live dense carbs like I do, make foods that give you the spices and flavors, but are less dense. Whole wheat pasta with lots of vegetables in the sauce is a way of fulfilling the carb desire, but cutting the fat promoting empty calories of white flour noodles. Then the next phase might be using spaghetti squash with a vegetable based pasta sauce. I discovered raw sea weed noodles this summer and made raw salads with sea weed noodles and enjoyed a live food feast, with a minimum carb load. The Hippocrates Health Institute has books with gourmet recipes that satisfy our cravings and are healthy too. It requires some research and patience, but you can move from the Standard American Diet to a healthy model and enjoy life just as much. There are even recipes for "breads" that are live, because they are dried, not baked. I prefer simpler food preparation, but for bakers, who want to spend the time, my friends tell me that these are incredible and satisfy that desire for carbs, but with healthy results.

Dr. Gabe Mirkin's Fitness and Health E-Zine
January 23, 2011

Heart Attacks and Strokes Caused by Full Fat Cells

A diet of fruits, vegetables and nuts lowers the bad
LDL cholesterol in two weeks by 33 percent, far more than the same diet with added grains and low fat diary (23 percent), and even more than by the National Cholesterol Therapeutic Step-2 diet recommended by doctors for people with high cholesterol (7 percent). Even more important, the ratios of LDL/HDL cholesterol are reduced by 24 percent, 12 percent, and 5 percent respectively
(Epidemiology, March 2006).

This study by David Jenkins and many other studies
show that the most effective way to lower high cholesterol and blood pressure, prevent heart attacks and prolong life is to avoid taking in more calories than you burn. Limiting food intake to just fruits, vegetables and nuts makes it very difficult to meet your needs for calories. You have to eat all day long to get
enough calories just to maintain your weight. This diet is almost the same as what human ancestors ate 4 to 7 million years ago before they split off in development from apes, who eat almost the same way in the wild today.

Further evidence that extra calories cause heart attacks
comes from the fact that reducing your intake of calories by one third and eating nothing but fatty meats and diary products will cause your blood cholesterol level to go down (European Heart Journal Supplements, 1999;1(S):S19-S23). Saturated fats are broken down in your liver to two-carbon acetone units. If you take in more calories than you need, the acetone units are used as building blocks to make cholesterol and your blood cholesterol
level rises. On the other hand, if you are not taking in extra calories, the acetone units are burned for energy and do not raise cholesterol.

The fruit-vegetable-nut diet is extremely low in significant amounts of starch because humans did not eat large amounts of grains until the agricultural revolution about 10,000 years ago.

By adding whole grains and animal products to the fruit-vegetable-nut diet, humans suddenly increased their caloric intake dramatically. Their bodies were used to trying to get every calorie they could possibly get from the food that they eat. Now they could get all the calories they needed. As long as they were very
active physically, they could compensate for the extra calories that they could take in and use. However, as soon as humans stop being physically active, they start to store extra calories as fat and it is the extra fat that causes much of modern day
disease.

Adding low-fat dairy products, whole grains and dried
beans to a fruit-vegetable-nut diet creates a diet that is low in saturated fat and low in cholesterol. This is the basis of the therapeutic diets recommended by most physicians to help prevent heart attacks today, yet these diets are significantly less effective than the fruit-vegetable-nut diet that forces severe calorie restriction.

The most unhealthful diet is one that allows you to take
in more calories than you need *so you store more fat in your muscles, *fat in cells blocks insulin receptors, *your cells stop responding to insulin, *your blood sugar rises, *sugar sticks to cell membranes to damage cells and cause *diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, cancers, and premature death.

If you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart
disease or diabetes, try limiting your diet to fruits, vegetables and nuts for just two weeks. It is likely that your cholesterol and blood pressure will drop significantly in that short time, and you will have identified the source of your problem. www.DrMirkin.com

I went to my Doctor yesterday and he was pleased with all of my numbers: Cholesterol down, Triglycerides down, HDL up, Blood Sugar within control, weight down, and blood pressure down. As a diabetic, he has prescribed Metformin for me, but I never took it and based on my control through diet and exercise (lifestyle changes), he took it off of my chart. The same with the Lovastatin, that he had prescribed, but I never took, he took that off of my chart. He liked my dietary choices (mostly vegetarian live food) and my daily exercise routine (one hour plus a day of aerobics with strength training once a week).

My new routine is to squeeze lemon or lime into a glass, add cinnamon, and sweeten with stevia. I then make a Super Green Drink and have a piece of fruit. I exercise and my first meal is after 12:00 noon. This morning, my wife made a cooked breakfast which smelled so good. It was an omelette and sprouted bread toast. I put it into a container and I will have it after my salad for lunch as my protein source. As the egg and the bread both will acidify my body, I want to make sure that I eat plenty of alkinizing vegetables before I eat the bread and egges. It is important to establish a plan and then to follow the plan, even when it smells good. If you have a successful plan, then it will help you achieve your health goals and exceptions won't.

I just finished lesson 3 from Lessons for Healthy Living and learned a lot more about food combining in a way that made a lot of sense. I like the approach that Drs. Jeff and Andrea Hazim take, he is very strict and she allows celebrations, which makes their dietary approach more accessible. I recommend that you go to their website: www.WellWithU.com and learn more.

I've recently subscribed to an excellent series of online lectures called "Lessons for Healthy Living" that you can read more about at www.WellWithU.com. It is a presentation by Chiropractors Drs. Jeff and Andrea Hazim. Today, I learned something new which surprised me, but made perfect sense when it was explained. The percentages of foods that we need are: Carbohydrates--90%, Protein--5%, Fats--2%, Minerals--2%, and Vitamins--1%. I recommend that you go to their website and check out their information. It is quite informative.

Acid vs. Alkaline
Balance for Weight Loss

Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Are you frustrated with carrying extra
weight? Well these are sure signs that you have had enough of living with an acidic
condition in the body. Just as our body works to maintain a body temperature of 98.6, it
is also striving to achieve a blood pH balance of 7.365. This can only be achieved
directly by what we eat and what we feel. When we consume foods on the acidic side,
such as, coffee, meat, dairy, processed food, refined sugar, and if we feel stress our
blood becomes acidic and our body naturally adds fat to protect the organs from the
acidic condition. This acidic condition is a breeding ground for a number of diseases
such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and many others. They all stem from acidic blood.

When we consume foods of an alkaline nature, such as, green leaves, vegetables, fresh
filtered water, coconut water, almonds, etc. our blood then begins to become alkaline,
ridding the body of excess protective weight. You begin to feel lighter and have more
energy; after, first passing through a stage of detoxification which may involve lethargy,
fatigue, headaches, and flu-like symptoms.

Blood pH is not the only important factor in weight loss, it is also aided by the enzymes
that are found in raw plant foods. Enzymes are responsible for every function of the
body and work hard to keep you healthy and rejuvenating. As you begin to clean your
blood you will begin to notice your appearance becoming more youthful. You body is
like an energy bank. When you are eating or drinking you are either making a deposit
(health, vitality, and energy) or a withdrawal (sickness, tiredness, weight gain). So next
time you go to eat or drink you have the choice to feel better. Don’t you want to choose
alkalinizing and healthy food and feel better today?

To make a shift from being sick (or having illness-producing thoughts) to become healthy requires adoption positive beliefs. Healing requires mental toughness and an outright refusal to remain trapped in negative thought patterns that undermine us. Our thoughts do indeed create our reality, or our experience of reality. From many years of working with people who are right on the edge of giving up, we have concluded that the primary element of healing is self responsibility. When we proceed with positive intention, we reconstitute our resources from within, tapping that deep well of healing wisdom to forge a brighter future.

Since healing begins with our beliefs, here are eight life-affirming beliefs that have become a cornerstone of the Hippocrates Program based on decades of trial and error experimentation in the field of nutrition.

Belief 1: We are solar cells. The sun provides the wide spectrum of nutrients necessary for our health. Directly or indirectly, the sun provides us with vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, oxygen, chlorophyll, photochemical, enzymes, and hormones, thus giving us the elements for good health.

Belief 2: The three most critical foods to achieve good health are sprouts, sea vegetables, and freshwater algae. They contain the highest solar energy in the most easily digestible form available. All of the necessary building blocks for health are in these foods, in the appropriate balance.

Belief 3: A diet high in raw chlorophyll delivers a continuous energy transfusion into our bloodstream, strengthening out immune system and enhancing the ability of our red blood cells to carry oxygen. The chlorophyll of a plant and the hemoglobin of a red blood cell are virtually identical in structure, making this transfusion possible.

Belief 4: In the contemporary science of nutrition, the most overlooked and underrated elements have been photochemical, oxygen, enzymes, trace minerals, and hormones. Nutrition scientists are awakening to the importance of these factors, which are a mainstay of the Life-force Program.

Belief 5: A primary cause of death by degenerative disease is excess protein in the modern diet. Many forms of cancer as well as heart disease, diabetes, and liver and kidney dysfunction have been linked to the overconsumption of protein. Mother’s milk supports a rapidly growing baby with no more than 3 percent protein.

Belief 6: Excess fat reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen to the cells. Too often people forget that oils are a liquid form of fat.

Belief 7: Much of what is available in natural foods stores is not actually health promoting. This includes many of the supplements and herbal mixtures that have been touted for their healing qualities but which contain synthetic chemicals. The Hippocrates Health Institute can recommend the nutritional value of only about 10 percent of what is sold in conventional natural food stores.

Belief 8: Cooking kills any life force left in food. The immune system responds immediately when this lifeless food is consumed by quickly and sharply raising the white blood cell count, just as if a poison or an infection had entered your system.

You may feel some initial resistance to accepting these eight beliefs, which are the core dietary principles at the Hippocrates Health Institute. Once you embrace these beliefs, and once you understand the logic behind them and you begin to experience their effectiveness first-hand, you will have taken a big step in reorienting your mind to assist you in achieving your wellness goals.

Illness is an option. We make the choices, even if we are not aware of it, to be ill by the way we live our life. Our lifestyle choices in food and exercise determine our state of health. Genes can tell us what our potential may be if we live a "normal" lifestyle, but our choice can maximize our health or minimize it.

Eating a whole, live food diet will give your body everything it needs to stay healthy and to repair itself if it becomes injured. Eating a processed food diet will lower our immune response and leave us vulnerable to opportunistic diseases.

Exercise, particularly intelligent weight training will strengthen our bodies and our coordination to prevent, so called, accidents that occur when we stumble but don't have the ability to regain our balance and just collapse on the ground. This inability is not a natural process of aging, it is a result of lack of physical fitness.

Eat and exercise well, live long, and prosper!

My morning blood sugar went from around 150 to around 100 by switching to Living Food and continuing to exercise 6-7 days a week by rowing. This is why Living Food makes sense to me.

“Food sustains us,… Yet what we eat may affect our risk for several of the leading causes of death for Americans, notably, coronary heart disease, stroke, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, and some types of cancer. These disorders together now account for more than two-thirds of all deaths in the United States.” -former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop

It is estimated that 60% of disease is caused by the SAD diet (Standard American Diet). If food is the culprit, I believe that food can be the answer. As we become mindful about what we eat, we can start to make choices that promote our health over illness. Food is consumed for nutrition but it is also consumed for pleasure. What happens if we learn how to satisfy our pleasure receptors with healthy food? Our lives improve.
