Going to sign up for a 5K in NYC on July 20th to raise money to HLH research, a rare illness that took the life of my dear high school friend a few weeks ago. This gives me enough time to go through the 5K your way running program and then 2 more extra weeks of training to improve my time. I'd like to beat my time from my first 5K race and I think I can.

If I get motivated, I haven't done a loop at Graham Hills Park this season yet. I'm curious to see how it looks now, the long blue loop around the park, it's about 4 miles. I'll probably go around 5pm today (it's June 7th). So if you want to loop I should be in the parking lot by then with hiking boots and a water bottle. Wish I had my fanny pack, I didn't think to grab it. My clothes have no pockets. I'll carry my little purse with me then.

Great first ride on Saturday. Weather should be perfect for a ride today. 16 Miles, starting in Pleasantville. Ride to Reservoir in Yorktown and back. Beautiful marsh land and wooded areas to ride through. A few sections along the road, cars relatively used to it. Careful at exit/entrance ramps for Taconic. People making right on red almost never look to their right before turning into your bike and roll through intersection without looking for bike traffic coming in.

Follow all traffic rules on road section, wear a helmet, stay to the right on the trail, announce passing "On Your Left" to all persons you pass. Ride single file when 2 way traffic is ahead. Respect these rules to make the trail a safe, comfortable place to enjoy an amazing work out.

In a few more weekends I'll be out on the North County Trailway again! I can't wait for the 2014 cycling season, it's going to be the best one I've had in a long time. I have 4 of the Nike 'pro-warm' long sleeve shirts for early season riding. It'll keep me warm on a fast ride through the wooded areas with shade and that cool breeze from the stream. Maybe I'll look for new gloves this season, I've never found them before. Mine are 20 years old and a bit worn if you can imagine. I love them, they're molded to my hands but the cushioning is gone and I need more support in my upper body to keep my arms from going numb on long rides. I put on bar ends a few seasons ago so I can shift my hand position on the rides to keep from going numb but it still happens. I don't really want to sacrifice seat height either. I like an almost straight leg one the down pedal for maximum efficiency...I take a heavy mountain bike on road rides and love the extra effort for the workout.

Believe me the first nice day I know the temperature isn't crazy and the North County Trail isn't covered in 2 feet of snow I'll be out on my bike! I'll make the announcement in my news feed, my blog and here and see if anyone joins me. I always put in on 117 in Pleasantville and ride North from there.

No big outdoor workouts for me for a while, this cold is just too much. I do need to do something though, even if I can sneak in a walk after work that's quick and bundled up. I'll be glad I did in 3 weeks when the miles start to add up!

As soon as that weather starts getting nice I'll be doing weekend rides on the North County Trail. I park in the small lot in Pleasantville just off the route 9 exit. I like to start the season with an easy 20 mile ride.

North County Trail tomorrow April 9th around 4:30 pm, riding from Pleasantville up to the reservoir bridge and back. 16 mile round trip. Parking lot on south side of route 117 near the 9A entrance. Ride take about an hour and a half. Bring refreshments.

If nice Wednesday, same ride, same time. Meet me in parking lot, let's ride.

Get out with your kids, teach them to ride a bike. If they're little, jog along side them when they ride. Find a paved trail nearby to take them to ride their bikes. If they're older, ride together. Family fun and fitness. Bring good snacks, carrots, grapes, apples, peanut butter.

At some point tomorrow I plan to ride the North County trail and put in on rt 117. I'd like to go early, the parking lot is on the south side of 117 just east of the rt9A entrance ramps. I ride north from there 10 miles up and back in about 2 hours.

Cold snap over us for a while. Warm days brought storms. Keep working out indoors until Mother Nature sorts herself out and warms up. Not too far now. We are in February, everyday creeping toward more daylight and Phil didn't see is shadow.

Bitter cold this week, waiting for it to warm up and then I'm back out there. Got the bike fixed for the season, first nice day and I'll be on the North County Trail. I put in at the parking lot on 117 in Pleasantville right off the route 9 exit. The Pace University exit.

I want to get in a bike ride on the North County Trail some time tomorrow. I only need two hours. I put in on 117, there's a parking lot off route 9 in Pleasantville. I ride north from there for 10 miles, take a Gatorade break and ride back.

Love the north county trail. Ride my bike there. I put in on 117 in Pleasantville and ride north. Normally a 20mile round trip. There's a parking area right off the trail.

Seven Lakes Drive to Bear Mountain Inn

Palisades North to exit 18, go around traffic circle to 3rd exit, Seven Lakes Drive. Proceed to SilverMine Picnic Area. Walk west on road to AT crossing, take trail on south east side of road.

I know it's very far away, but there is a Breast Cancer walk every October in Orchard Beach. We could organize a NY Spark team for that event and all walk it together!

Most of us are members of other Spark Teams so it's easy to spread the word.
