Thanks, Lisa! Yes, I kept to just one plate and didn't take too much of the evil sauces so I call it a win. Also, had heartburn and a lot of gas (sorry if that's TMI) so I ended up not having any dinner. Nice ride!! Sorry your knee is sore...I'm sure it will be fine for your run tomorrow. Enjoy your chores emoticon
The San Jose 408K is in the bag....58:53. Too crowded, too many elbows...BOOO!! I think I just don't like racing so much. I'll do what I have scheduled and want to actually run a HM but I think that might be it for me.

Donna: No, don't get rid of your Fitbit! I know it is motivating you and you have been really rockin' it lately. I was only saying that, for me, it didn't do what I needed. So I traded it in for a Garmin with HR. It was very helpful when I first got it because I learned how little I burned while sitting at my desk job. For regular machine weight ST, I burn about 4 cals per minute. For bootcamp style (body weight, lunges, squats, etc) I burn about 7 cal per min. Make a manual adjustment to your Fitbit recording to keep it accurate.

Nat: Good luck today! How did you do at the Indian buffet? One plate? I'm not good at buffets. But I do a pretty good job of choosing the "best" choices.

Corrine: SFF! Thinking about what you said "wish I could maintain this speed for a much longer distance"... what is your heart rate for that speed? Are you breathing heavy?

Jean: I like the longer runs, too. Getting in the zone and just staying there. My brain is clear and I can think. But usually my mind just wanders over different things and time flies. It's that euphoria! I don't get that on short runs. I get that feel good feeling, but not the same as during a long run. Glad your arch is healing!

Crissy: Have a nice run!

Amy: Did you get that rain break?

I got my 3 hr ride in. At the park. The hilly, hilly park. That wasn't my first choice. I was hoping to do the group ride with my cycling group, but I was the only "B" rider going. It was a low attendance day for some reason. Only 3 others (all A's) and my sweet friend that is a C/D. Last week I promised to ride with her so she could go. Another man that is a B stayed with us because he hadn't ridden in 2 months and just wanted an easy ride. That's fine to do once in awhile, but today I had to get 3 solid hours in at a good effort and she can't do that. So she went shopping and I rode by myself. At the park. Ugh. My DH reminded me that the park will make me stronger. I kept telling myself that as I hammered up those hills. 2400' of climbing for 42 miles in 3:15. I finished with a quick 1 mile run. I had a 6 mi run on my schedule for today, but my left knee is a little sore so I think I will swap rest days and have a nice run tomorrow. Lots to do today... laundry, bathrooms, dusting and mopping. Wheeee!!

How about...

FABULOUS and FIT FEMALES
FABULOUS FIT FEMALES

If we think of a better name sometime in the future.... we can change it.

For me... the toughest part of setting up a team is.... finding a good picture to represent "us."

I did a google image search and put in a variety of words....
Running produced the best images in my opinion....

Hope we find a good one.

emoticon Hi team!

Hi Crissy....

Natalie: Thanks....

Corrine: I think what is helping my arch the most is that I've cut the mileage down quit a bit. The last 3 months of 2012 my mileage was 95, 83, and 103. In January I was doing good until my arch started to hurt and mileage dropped after that. February was only 53 miles. I miss the longer mileage. Hopefully I will be able to build it back up once I am pain free again.

***

I am sore today...
Yesterday... ran 2 miles; biked 15 miles; painted for 2 1/2 hours....

Today's plan....
Hopefully will finish painting the laundry room (so much big stuff in there).
ST for runners
Going to a surprise birthday party this evening. Very new friends.

Have a beautiful day team!

I like the idea of a private team as well. It has just been the seven of us for awhile now. I really like chatting with this team the best. I also ignore all of the team digests I get. I consider you guys my SFFs (Spark Friends Forever). I never use any of the other threads in my other teams except for chat threads so that's all I need! How about The Fabulous Fitness Females?

Donna - good job on shaking things up. I hate running in the wind and don't envy you having to run in it.

Jean - I'm glad your arch is finally starting to feel better. What do you think has helped it the most?

Lisa - good luck on that three hour ride!

Amy - I hope the rain quits and you can get your 12 miles in! Amy I noticed you have been posting more - are you able to get more computer time now?

Nat - thanks for being willing to set us up a new team. Good luck tomorrow!

Today I ran 5 miles - in the wind - and it was another really good run. I didn't feel like it at the time, I felt like I was hardly moving - but my time was even shorter than the last five miles I ran. Oh how I wish I could maintain this speed for a much longer distance!

Hmmmm...Famous Fitness Females...might work :-)
I think it will mostly be chat and we could put our own threads up.
No team goals.
I will wait to hear what people think about a name and get it going...probably Sunday.

The purpose of a private team...

What should it be?

It could be called - SERIOUS about FITNESS
or FAMOUS FITNESS FEMALES

I don't know how famous we are, but......

Format?

It could simply be a chat thread...

And each of us could have a thread where we post and track our own goals - whatever they may be. We could each then support each other on an individual's thread. But even if no one supported anyone.... it would still be a place to be accountable to oneself and have it "out there."

TEAM GOAL?

I forget to do these......

Just some thoughts.....

Just checked....teams need to either be public or private. That's it. So private it will be.
Do you have a suggestion for the name?
Running Chat?

I will be unconnecting my FitBit from SP. I use it more for tracking sleep hours and total steps but I can enter those manually.

Donna...pizza and candy!! Yikes!! Getting a calorie burn for ST is hard. You can input to the FitBit tracker and call it ST vigorous...for an hour it tells me I will burn 262 calories. I always input the things that aren't running/walking type to the FitBit tracker. Have a good run!!
Jean, variety is the spice of life....or something. It's fun try try new things :-) Glad your arch is healing!! Painting....good luck! Enjoy your biking :-)
Amy, have a good 12 miles!!
Lisa, I've never actually formed a team so I don't know what the options are. I will set one up sometime today and if it has to be private, I'll just invite you guys. I'll get back to you.
I ended up doing 2 of the 3 workouts on the Kathy Smith DVD yesterday....circuit training and balance. This morning I did the 3rd, yoga-ish one. They're not bad. I will do PT exercises this afternoon. Need to get the youngest cat to the vet emoticon this morning. Meeting friends for lunch at the Indian buffet....ONLY ONE PLATE, NATALIE!!!! And pick up packets for the race tomorrow. And figure out how to set up a team.

Donna, I forgot to give you a big emoticon for signing up for your next HM. Go for it!
And calorie burn for ST is weird. When my HR monitor shows a low burn I remind myself that ST will keep the calories burning long after I turn it off.

It has been raining all morning so I'm still waiting to do my run. The radar is starting to clear so I'm going to get ready to go - again.

Lisa, If I remember correctly, with a private team the leader has to send you an invite for anyone to join. That would be the good thing about it, no yay-hoos jumping in.

I just finished my ST and again 78 calories for 60 min. I can't breathe and my arms are still shaking. I'm going to eat a banana and wait 30 min or a potty break and then run at least miles. It sunny and still cool 40 degrees but the wind is still pretty intense but it will be until June so I'd better get used to it.

I like the idea of the private group with the request thing option. I'm not sure I am ready to give up the fitbit, it is a motivator and I do push myself to get the steps in and stairs climbed. It has been the added push for me and also I got the Slim in 6 so I am really working on getting the 6 workouts each week...although I only will get in 5 of those this week as I took yesterday off. Fridays are so hard to work out.

Donna: That's why I got rid of my Bodybugg... it is misleading. It counts steps while you grocery shop and gives you fitness credit for that. But a hard ST session, Bootcamp DVD or spin class give you about the same calorie burn as watching TV. The reason being that it relies on an accelerometer to determine your activity. If it doesn't know what you are doing, then you must be standing still. It works great for walking or running, Zumba, elliptical... those activities that have rhythmic movement. I have no idea how the 120 minute max works. I have noticed that while my minutes in excess of 120 will not show on the right column weekly or monthly total, I will receive monthly min awards that include those minutes.

Amy: I completely agree -I come to this group because we are all dedicated. Yes, there are other running groups. But it's the same topic threads over and over and people come and go. I enjoy that we have all been here and we have come to "know" each other in our supportive little group.

Jean: I don't need team challenges either. I forget to mark the team goals as it is! Forming a new private team is interesting. Is it possible to create an open team where people "request" membership, not that they can automatically add themselves? I would like our team to be open to new members, but only members that would be of the same mindset. I haven't set up a team before so I don't know the options.

Waiting a bit for the threat of rain to pass then I'm out for a 3 hr ride -or- wear out and fall over, whever occurs first.

Jean is on to something about starting a private team! I'm like Nat, several months ago I quit checking my weekly Team Digests because I knew most of those minutes had to be fake. I didn't realize there are so many was to double or triple dip. It is such a rip!
If we had a private team...the competition would be fierce for the top fitness minutes spot! I think that's one of the reasons this is my favorite group; we are pretty serious about our fitness.
I was on a private team before that was started for that reason. The leader was tired of people coming & going on her teams so she created a private one for dedicated people. Then she decided to leave Spark, LOL!

Ok, it looks like the rain is gone. I'd better get dressed & hit the pavement for 12 miles.

NATALIE: You have such work out variety. I do the same thing over and over.

PINK: I'd go with 9 also. You will be ready!!

CRISSY: That sure is a full day with your family. I bet the boys have so much fun!

LISA: You are so funny!

DONNA: You are so busy... I don't know how you get everything done!

***
AFM...

ARCH: I can tell it is healing. I have been doing some stretches for it and trying not to aggravate it by running too far or too fast. I am in the maintenance and healing mode right now. No aggressive workouts (except jumping on and off a treadmill).

Biking today.

Am "thinking" about painting the laundry room. I got some paint in December and it still is sitting in there. I have been too busy with company. But I think I have some extra time now.

***

TEAM POSSIBILITIES:

What are they?
I know team members cannot be kicked off.

For me, I don't need team challenges on this team. I have enough challenges from other teams.

I just enjoy the chat thread.

Options:
Start a private team just for chatting and maybe tracking information - personal goals etc.....
Start a new open team - sending out a message to all current members that a new team is started with " this " focus. Whatever we determine "this" is.... We would lose a lot of the current members by doing this.

I don't know if Spark needs another running team.

What could we name a new PRIVATE TEAM? Hmmmm.

Of course with a private team there is no chance of new people joining the chat thread - unless they are invited.

Amy-I have to laugh at the planning to paint thing. Too funny as I'm about to redo my daughter's bathroom now and yep...the planning. To be honest though I want to pull the floor and put new down, I've got to learn how to do that and what I want. emoticon
I think I'd love to have a 4 day work week. We used to have a shorter day on Thursdays but the parents complained so much to the school board we had to go back to a regular schedule. It's a commuting nightmare around here for parents and school schedules so the parent always win.

Lisa-I'm a fitbit user now and I did notice my time increased but also I've increased my workouts so not really sure how much it added. I do know that my calorie burn for ST sucks. Really, I'm dripping and I get a whooping 73 calories and 45 steps for 55 min workout? I am now making sure I get the 10 flights of stairs and at least 5 miles in each day...except Sunday...that one sucked for sure. LOL I have no idea what quicktrack is so I don't double dip that way but I thought you could only get 120 min a day no matter what? I remember when I was doing long runs of more than 2 hours I felt cheated that it didn't count. I feel your pain though. I do know that on the fitbit page last week when I thought I was doing soo good as I was doing 2 a days and I still ranked 600th on the list it really burst my bubble. LOL

Jean-thanks for the reminder about the eye appt...I really need to get one and I'm sure new glasses too. No headaches yet but I've noticed my eyes tire easily and get a bit blurry late at night.

I've got a major temptation happening on Sunday. Pizza and candy! My Sunday School class is stuffing Easter eggs after church and ordering pizza. Won't that be great...I'd better pray extra hard for some strength!. Acutally I think I'll bring a salad over so if I eat that I can still have 1 piece of pizza or hopefully they will order something I don't like or from someone that has lousy pizza.

I've got to create a schedule as I'm going to do the local HM on May 19th. My long last week was 5 and there is 9 weeks to go. I've got to get some hills in as this one is tough. And of course by then the weather will probably be in the low 80's. We have such extremes around here.

Amy, taper....but please don't wear a biking helmet when you're out running. ;-)
Crissy, I thought Chuck E Cheese was on crack....this place must be something else. Yay for an easy run with your friend....that is nice :-)
Lisa, I just checked....no, I cannot delete people from the team. I totally feel you on the leaderboards. Honestly, I've started just deleting the weekly digest email because I get so pissed off with people double dipping. Now that you can link your FitBit and Bodymedia or bugg or whatever, people are doing even more double dipping.
I do have my FitBit linked but I don't add any extra myself and when I log my minutes in our team goal of 1500 minutes per month, I do put my actual intentional minutes...but not the many (or not so many depending on the day) trips up and down the stairs at work.

Nat: As Administrator for this group, can you delete people? I'm just curious. You know we have a bunch of members and our little chat group is all that participates. It's not that I want to kick everyone out. (Really I wish more would join in). Just some people, lol. Hear me out! I'm not trying to be a jerk. Every week I get the leaderboard standings for this group and every week it is full of people I've never heard of. I've commented before that it's such a pet peeve to see people counting fitness minutes for grocery shopping. Then SP added the Quicktrack feature and I noticed that people would use QT then also add their minutes on the fitness page -doubling their minutes. Now all of the people with FitBit have an autotrack for their minutes. So they get fitness credit for every move they make all day -not just intentional fitness. Anyway... now I see people with FitBit minutes tracked, plus they use the QT and/or the Fitness track. Some people are tripling their minutes! I don't know why that really gets under my skin, but it really irks me to see the top people on the leaderboard are cheaters! I've been ignoring the Leaderboard for so long -basically since the QT started. But I decided to look at it last weekend and it made me mad all over again, lol. So I decided that I would rant about it and maybe we can delete the cheaters since they aren't participating members anyway.

Stepping off my soapbox and getting over my fitness minute self-righteous rant now.

Ok, you guys convinced me to just do 9 the week before.
Good thing I trust you guys not to give bad advice. And with Lisa being my hero, she could tell me to shave my head & tattoo DORK across my face & I'd probably do it.

Amy, I typically follow a plan like Lisa's when it comes to tapering. The week before my HM, I did a long run of 9 or 10 miles, then 3 4-mile runs. I ALWAYS rest 2 days before a race so if the race is on Saturday, I will rest completely on Thursday and Friday. Good luck!! Yuck on the weight gain. I'm there, too. :/

Lisa, yeah, what Amy said about IPC! The pizza really isn't that good but there is soft serve ice cream, cobbler, cinnamon rolls, and cookies, so it's not all about the pizza. ;) It's like Chuck E Cheese on crack. The boys LOVE it, so we usually go and spend the entire day there, eating lunch and supper. ;)

Nat, way to go on being a good girl! :)

Jean, are you going to get some cool shades? ;)

I always eat before a run. Even if it's just 4 miles, I eat a banana beforehand. Anything over 10 miles, I eat a PowerBar Performance Energy bar. Speaking of running, I had a nice, easy 6 mile run with a friend who just got back into running. She's a friend I have been running with off and on for 2 years and is the one who talked me into doing my first marathon. Anyway, we plan to run together on Fridays. I then went to the gym for boot camp. Now for a day of rest tomorrow. :)

Amy: Yes, you still need to taper to be at your best on race day. Do 12 tomorrow if it will make you feel more "current" on your mileage. I usually make my training plan to do 12 two weeks out then 8 the weekend before. I would not do 12 the weekend before simply because the farther you go the more risk you take for injury and longer recovery. I would do an easy long run next weekend then two mid-week runs of 6 & 4 and you're ready to go on race day.

Donna, I have probably mentioned this before, but our school is off on Mondays. We go Tues-Fri 8a-4p. The teachers & the kids love it.
Next month I'm using a week's vacation to paint & every time I start thinking about planning what I'm doing I think of you, LOL.

Lisa - 4 lbs! emoticon
Getting mentally tough is the hardest part for me. 80 minutes is a long time to do anything, let alone that trainer. My money would have been on you to be able to get through. Nice work!
I love dark chocolate & can have a square every day to make a candy bar last me 2 weeks. Wouldn't it be nice if I could resist the other junk I put in my mouth during those 2 weeks. Sheesh! I have no self control.

Crissy, there is an Incredible Pizza in St Louis. I wasn't too impressed with the food. Maybe I hit it on a bad day.
Lisa, it is buffet that has mini golf, arcade games, go-karts, & that kind of stuff for kids. Sort of like Chucky Cheese.

Nat, "new to me" items. Those are the best kind.

Lisa, you think I should only do 9 next weekend? I usually do 9 the week before but since I've been short on my long runs I thought I'd do 12. Then again, I do want to be fully rested & ready to go for race day.

Today was weigh in day. I'm up 3 lbs for the month. Ouch! I knew I gained so I started tracking this week. Not trying to stay in range, just seeing how many calories I've been eating. It looks like I've been eating about 300 extra calories a day. Multiply that by 30 days & you get a 2.57 lb gain. I must have had some days where I was more than 300 over.

When hubby decided to do a HM, just like everyone else, thought it would help him lose weight. The other day he was complaining about how he's gained & how can that be. Well now he knows!

Amy, yay for a great run!! Yes, I had noticed that Garmin Connect gives you the weather.
Crissy, I hope you can kick that cold.....messed up sleep will definitely make for poor eating choices.....ghrelin will do that to you. You did excellent at the shower!!
Donna, that is weird weather. Glad you had a good day.
Lisa, yay for 4 pounds down!!! Awesome job on the trainer!! I've started taking a dark chocolate calcium supplement after dinner...Adora. It is dark chocolate but has calcium and vitamin D3. Great stuff. Enjoy your rest day :-)
Corrine, glad you had a fab run!! I know I'm good about the exercise...it's the eating that needs to be reigned in.
Jean, glad you had a good run. Ooohhh....new glasses. I kind of like to pick out new frames :-)
I was a good girl and did 3 miles and PT exercises yesterday. This afternoon I'm going to try out a new to me Kathy Smith exercise DVD and do my PT exercises.

Corrine: June 2010 I weighed 242. Sept 2012 my low was 165. Then I had a bad case of post tri-season blues. I had a training plan ready to go because I know I need structure. But that dissolved into just running and rarely swimming. That, coupled with holidays and an ongoing diet that wasn't working for me (Paleo) added up to a whopping 9 pound gain by end of Jan. I tried to get back on my old diet from the sports dietitian, but after three weeks of flailing around, I tucked my tail between my legs and called her. She only charged me $50 to completely rebuild my plan. So worth it! Even though I had to tell her I had strayed, lol.

Crissy: You did great at the shower! What is Incredible Pizza? Have you been to Lost Pizza? When we went to Greenville HM we drove to Cleveland to eat dinner at Lost Pizza and I saw one was opening in Tupelo. It was soooo good. DH said we need to find more races in that area, lol.

Jean: I always run in the morning and for 2 yrs I have rolled out of bed and headed out the door. Even for LSR. I rarely pre-fuel. It goes back to habits. I got into the habit of doing fasted workouts because your body has to burn fat for fuel when you don't have any glucose in your bloodstream. That works in theory, but is dependant upon activity level by what I have learned. A run less than 5 miles I need 100 cal carb snack like a piece of fruit. 7+ miles requires a carb/protein of 200 cals. Then refuel with carb as mileage dictates. Good that you are having some nice runs. How is your arch feeling?

Ahhh rest day!

CRISSY: Hope you feel better soon!

DONNA: Every teacher should have Wednesday's off or Friday's for planning.... what is wrong with school systems that they do not realize this....

LISA: Good job with your training and new nutrition plan. I should consider always eating before running. I usually only eat on long run days.

CORRINE: Awesome runs are great!

****

Yesterday's run was another good run. 3 miles easy 1 mile closer to HM race pace.

I am not scheduled for another run until Monday..... maybe I'll go out Saturday for a couple of miles.

Today is an ST day....
And an eye appt. Time for new glasses....

Donna, yuck, I hate snow. Glad you got a day off, though! For some reason, Thursdays always feel like Fridays to me. :/

Lisa, congrats on the 4lb loss!! I found those 4lbs. ;) Sounds like your workouts are going well. I'm like you with the mental thing.

Corrine, yay for a good run!

I did okay at the baby shower last night. I had a salad, a few pretzels, one cupcake, and half of a cookie. I wanted so much more but I limited myself. I need to do well the next few days because we're taking the boys to Incredible Pizza Company on Monday and I KNOW I won't be able to exercise self-control there. I'll try but it won't happen. ;)

Lisa - you say you were once "obese" how much weight have you lost? That is awesome you've finally got your nutrition figured out! Way to go with 4 pounds! That's great you had such an awesome workout! I love Dove's Dark Chocolate. I should try what you are doing - because they really are satisfying.

Jean - your treadmill workout sounds very scary and really not very safe. Please be careful, the last thing you want to do is fall and twist an ankle (or worse).

Donna - a day off in the middle of the week does sound like a really good idea. I will have to try it one of these days.

Amy - I'm glad you got a good run in. Our snow mounds are almost gone! It is so nice!

Nat - you set such a good example - I wish I would just follow your lead! I'm glad you like your haircut. Good luck at your 8K this weekend!

Crissy - Bummer about those sluggish miles. I hope the baby shower doesn't do you in! Dig down deep and pull out some of that will power that I know you have. You didn't get where you are today without it!

Today I had a totally awesome run. I didn't have a lot of time for it so I only ran 3 miles. But it went really, really well. My speed was up a little bit and my heel isn't killing me anymore than it would if I had run slower! Sometimes these shorter runs are just really rewarding!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Nat: Yay for a haircut!

Amy: That's interesting that you do your ST barefoot. I bet that would strengthen your arches and calves as your feet balance you. I'm not worried about you being short on LSR's. Get that 11 mi in this weekend, do 9 next weekend and you'll be good to go. I did notice the weather a few weeks ago. Love it!

Donna: Doing two-a-days definitely takes some getting used to and planning your day so that you are committed to doing it. It's easy to talk yourself out of it. You are doing great! Glad you found a bottle of wine and enjoyed that snow day.

Corrine: Nice that you had a great run!

Jean: I broke my sugar habit by switching to dark chocolate. I have a bag of Dove and I eat one square as my treat after dinner. It's so good and chocolately that it satisfies my need and the fact that I know I am getting it, I don't think about it all day. If I get a bag of milk chocolate or M&Ms or especially Reese's... I will eat the entire bag. I don't know what it is. That sweeter candy makes me keep eating it but I'm satisfied with a small piece of the dark chocolate.

Crissy: Your jump off the wagon sounds pretty yummy! Once in a while is ok. Clean it up and stay in your goal range so your shorts fit!

Nutritionist update... so far so good! I'm down 4 with 5 more to go to get back to my low of 165. I'm finally in the groove with pre-workout eating and I think that is a big part of the trick for me. Fasted workouts are no longer in my game plan. It's really hard letting go of habits! I'm still under the target calories and short on carbs. I struggle to NOT choose the lowest calorie/fat choices. I'll keep working on that. Sometimes the habits we change for the better we take too stringent. It's hard for me to believe that I went from being obese to now "trying" to not undereat. That seems ridiculous.

This morning I had a swim set of 100s on the 1:50 and I giggled thinking of Amy saying I was swimming a football field. Tonight I did 80 min on the trainer. That was my longest. I fight the urge to stop for breaks while I'm pedaling. But after I had counted down my time to 60 min (my bargained time) and gave my self permission to stop, I continued pedaling. I would have kept going but it was getting late and I was really hungry for dinner. It was kind of an important realization. The length of time is a mental barrier. Not so much a physical one. Just like the dreadmill. I'm capable of running for 3 hours, but put me on that treadmill and I have a million excuses to stop. I need water, I'm too hot, I'm bored. Or my favorite... I'm just not feeling it today. It's a mental battle! And today I scored a point.

The snow was very thick and mostly wet. It really varied by the area you were in. I got about 7 inches and still have about 3 inches left, where I work they got very wet snow and it wasn't good for anything and it's all gone today. My daughter lives closer to the District and she got about 1 inch and it was gone before the sunset. We have our weird weather patterns here with mountains to the west that usually get the most weather of course but storms that come from the south are usually our snow makers, this one actually came from the south and east straight off the coast so they didn't know what to make of it, normally the cold northern air chills it down and we get dumped on but this time the cold air held off for a few hours and we didn't get the 3ft the thought was a potential at the beginning of the week. The main issue is the weather men hype it all up and people panic and we don't have enough plows and spreaders to handle anything and of course our area is very hilly so that is a nightmare with icy conditions. The county I teach in is split into 2 the westend got about 14inches and have very little services out there as it's less populated but the eastend got 3 inches. They had to close school today because the westend is snowed in still, kids loved it until they found out they lost a day of spring break. LOL

Off to workout, I was required to go to school today but it was a good day. I got a lot done. Picked up a ton of fresh food at the store on my way home so I don't have that chore this weekend too. I'm ready for the weekend. I think we all need Wednesday's off. I feel so much better about the second half of the week. LOL

Hi everyone!!

Last night's eating was awful as well. I just made a whole day out of it. :/ I'm doing well today, but I'm going to a baby shower tonight which means good food. Ugh. I got in a 6 mile run today but my legs felt like lead. I don't know if it was the awful day of eating I had yesterday, the bad night of sleep last night or a combination of both. :/ I have a cold and it's messing with my sleep!!

Garmin Connect users: I just noticed they show what the weather was on your run. How cool! I don't know when this started but I looked as far back as 12/29 & it showed the weather. It was wrong about Saturday's run - it said cloudy but nothing about how heavy the snow was coming down.

Jean, are you nuts? You are lucky you didn't get thrown across the room, lol.

Donna, on the news they were describing DC's snow as wallpaper paste. Was it that thick?

The snow mounds I have to get around are shrinking. There is still one about 4' tall that will take awhile to melt but we've got temps near 60 coming so I'm happy.

Crissy, you just got back to your goal weight. Remember how hard you had to work to get there? Stay away from the Rice Krispies!

Corrine, I'm glad you got us straightened out. I'd been saying Cor-reen.

My run this morning was GREAT. That makes 2 in a row : )
I got started later than I wanted & only got 4.82 of 5 done but I was going fast - for me. I was huffing & puffing pretty good but I couldn't make my legs slow down. To put the icing on the cake, since I started a little late it was almost daylight. I loved it!

Yippee for snow days! Darn neighborhood kids woke me up though! I was up at 4am when hubby was supposed to leave for work but when we looked out the window I promptly turned my alarm off. Then work called at 5:30 to say we were closed and then the kids started sledding down my backyard hill at 7. I teased the mom about letting school teachers sleep in. I can't blame the kids this is our first snow that caused a snow day, we've only had flurries this winter. I got up and did the workout this morning. I was still sore from last nights workout. I painted the trim on my guest bedroom. I swear that project is never going to end. I still have the doors to finish.
No snow day tomorrow for me...kids do though. This is a strange snow, parts of us got dumped on and a few miles away just a rain event. I got about 7 inches.
And yes, I found a bottle of wine so I didn't have to go out and get any. :)

Nat, you're so faithful with your PT exercises! Good job!

Jean, that does sound dangerous but I'm glad it worked for you! I need to get up the gumption to throw away all of the candy in the house as well. :/

Corrine, in my head I pronounce your name as Cor-in. I have a friend who has a little girl named Corrine and that's how she pronounces it, so that's how it is stuck in my head. I love your name, though. :) Yay for 4 good miles! How is your foot?

Donna, did you get your snow day?? Not many people do 2 workouts in one day. I do, but that's because I have the time and energy for it. ;) Did you get your wine? ;)

Amy!! So glad you checked in!! I've been missing you!! Sorry about the snow. :( That's one reason why I don't live up there. I hate snow. ;) I'm sure you are no fatty patty!!

I went to the gym today and got in an interval treadmill workout. Then I proceeded to "eat" it all at my friend's house. :/ I had lasagna, enchiladas, M&M's, chips & dip, and rice krispie treats. Oh and a couple of cups of caramel cafe. *sigh* Back on the bandwagon. . .

Amy, you're right....I do like to try out new things.Yay for ST working it's magic!! IT was the right thing not to continue with your run. Fingers crossed you can get your 11 miles in on Saturday.
Donna, the concept of a snow day is foreign to me growing up in Southern California. I did always wish we would get one, though. Fingers crossed for you!!
Corrine, I guess I have been pronouncing it in my head correctly :-) Corn.....that's just wrong!!! My stepmother calls me, Natlie.....thanks....just drop a syllable. I am so happy I got my hair cut....it really needed it. Yay for a great run!!!!
Jean, the exercise part of the equation is the easy one for me.....the eating is the crappy one. Wow...those hill sprints do sound dangerous!! I think I would have a hard time jumping off.
I did get in my PT exercises after I got home from my hair appointment. I'll get some elliptical this afternoon...and PT exercises...I'm supposed to do those every day and I do pretty much.

emoticon Morning!

CRISSY: A windy run and IronStrength - good job!

NATALIE: I've said this before but I am continually impressed on how much ST and cardio you fit in almost every day.

AMY: Hi! I'd be "sick" of snow too. Good job trying to get your miles in. You won't have any problem with the HM.

DONNA: Here's wishing you some snow. I remember teaching and WANTING a snow day so badly.

CORRINE: Glad you had such a good run!!!

*****

Eating: Last night after munching on candy all day I took the remainder of the bag and threw it in the trash. I definitely need to break this sugar habit.

I was happy with yesterday's run. 4 easy miles plus I stopped and did about 6 - 8 second hill sprints on the treadmill. If anyone would have seen me they would have warned me against what I was doing. When I told DH how I did them he said it was too dangerous.

But it worked....

The kind of hill sprints I am doing are supposed to be fast (3K to 5K pace) and short (8-10 seconds). I stood on the edges of the treadmill, started it, set the incline at 10, got the belt moving to a fast speed. I would hang on and jump on - let go - run for 8 seconds - hang on again - step off to the edge of the treadmill without changing the speed of the belt or the incline.

It was scary. I really needed to stay focused so I didn't trip or go flying off the back of the treadmill.

But it seemed to work. My HR soared in the 8 seconds and I felt like I was running faster than I possibly can.

Amy - I think it is so funny you would ask how I pronounce my name. I always wonder how you guys say it in your heads. If you are familiar with the Bible it is pronounced like Corinthians but without the "thians". So I guess Cur-in. I get called all kinds of things though! One time I was even called "Corn" on the phone. I'm going really? You really think a persons name is "Corn"?! I feel your pain about the snow and missing work outs. I just hate it! It seems like it is never going to end! We will have a couple of nice days and then here comes another storm - its getting really old! Good luck getting in an 11 mile run this week.

Jean - I'm so proud of you and DH! I bet he is glad you guys stayed even if it was cold!

Lisa - Congrats on another PR!

Donna - emoticon did you get some wine?

Nat - you sure are busy, busy, busy! How did your haircut go? You may be right about me not eating enough before my run Saturday. I really need to be more aware of what I am eating the days leading up to a long run.

Me - I had a good 4 mile run this afternoon. When I first started I thought it was going to be a repeat of Saturday - but once I got in the groove it went really well. I thought about going more than 4 but then decided I wanted to end on a high note so I stuck with the original plan.

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Bring me some snow! I told my students today if there was any snow on the ground they better not show up or I was giving them a test. I just want 1 snow day this year. Is that too much to ask? They are calling for it but often they are wrong. So I'd like to get dumped on and perhaps get 2 day out of it. A teacher can hope can't she?

I'm off to hit the trails for a quick 3 before I do my slim in 6 which I don't like by the way. :) I do but I don't if you know what I mean. It's hard to get the runs in and still do that too. I just can't do 2 workouts a day. I know that Lisa and Nat are wonderwomen but I'm just little ole me and it's hard and yes, I wanna whine a bit. Speaking of wine, I wonder if I have enough for the snowstorm...might have to make a pitstop for some, forget the milk, bread and tp there are more important things.

Hello Everyone!

Jean, is this your first medal for placing?

Crissy, melatonin worked for me after years of waking up in the middle of the night.

Lisa, how's it going with the nutritionist?

Nat, you are our Gadget Guru. Seems like you have or have tried just about everything out there!

Corrine, how's the PF? I've always wondered...is your name pronounced Cor-in or Cor-reen?

As you may have expected, things are not going great for me. Actually, one thing has been going well - my ST. It has been 2 weeks since I decided that my lack of it was causing the pains here & there. Since then I've been working on it almost every day & it was just what I needed. No more shin splints, no more pain on the sides of my shins. No more arch pain! For the ones who do ST at home, do you do it barefoot? I do & I wonder if that has helped strengthen my arches?
The bad part? Not running! Sat 2/23 I only got in 7 miles for my long run (Which I had to do on a 1.25 mile stretch of road because the sidewalks were snow covered. Yes, I ran back & forth to make 7 miles. Not fun.) My day was way too packed to be able to do any more than 7. Then the following week (which was last week) we had rain every morning, then Thursday it turned into snow. SO I didn't get to run Thurs or Fri. So by the time Sat came around again I hadn't run for a whole week! SO I got ready to do my long run Sat of 11 miles. But guess what...it was snowing again! emoticon I tried it anyways & am lucky I didn't hurt myself. It got really slick. I only made it 4 miles before deciding the smart thing to do was give up. It was so cold & windy, & the snow hitting my face that it was a pretty easy decision. I went out about noon to do my grocery shopping. The snow had stopped & the sun had come out enough for the sidewalks to be clear. emoticon If I had know that I would have switched my schedule around to get that stupid long run in. I still get mad when I think about it.
Oh, and guess what old man winter had for us this morning? SNOW. Today wasn't a run day so it hasn't messed me up - yet. It had better be ok to run tomorrow or I'm going to have to throw a big fit. Yes, I do have a HM in just 2 1/2 weeks & yes, my longest run has only been 10 miles & that was on 2/16.
But all this snow has meant lots of ST days & I think that is why I had a good run yesterday.
Ok, so I'm planning on 11 miles for this Saturday's long run. The 10 day forecast is looking good. The mounds of snow at the ends of sidewalks where I have to maneuver around where the snow plows push it might be molehills by Saturday.
If you are wondering if I'm sick of the snow...I AM. emoticon
Also, you can call me Fatty Patty. I am huge!

Crissy, glad you got in 10 miles....I might have just rolled over myself :-) Good job on the Iron Strength and another 6 miles in the wind!! Yay for little man feeling better :-)
Thanks, Lisa :-)
Jean, eating too much junk is my middle name lately. I had waaaaay too many of my snickerdoodles yesterday...good thing they are leaving the house today. Good bike and ST is very nice. I hope your 4 miles goes well.
Yesterday I had my PT appointment which included some biking and plenty of balancing and ST for my hips/butt. Then I went home and did the SP Bodyweight Burn from the Total Body Scuplting DVD and walked 3 miles with Leslie Sansone.
This morning I ran 2.86 miles on the treadmill...no time for more. I have a haircut appointment this afternoon and then I'll do my PT exercises.

Jean, you and me both! I splurged the entire weekend and a little bit yesterday. I'm hoping to stay on track today! How is your foot?

Hi Lisa!!

I miss Amy! :(

I had to skip the gym yesterday since my little one was sick. I did a modified Iron Strength workout at home. I got up this morning and ran 6 miles in the wind! Oh it's wild out, gusts up to 24 mph. I ran in it, though. It wasn't too bad, mainly when I ran North. Little man feels better so we're going to the gym in a bit. :) Have a great day!

I have been eating junk way too much again. Gotta start tracking so that I have some concept of what I am doing.

Yesterday.... a good bike ride and some ST

Today.... 4 very easy miles.

I feel like I'm behind!!

Congrats to Jean, her DH and Lisa! Sounds like you all had great races!!

Donna and Corrine, way to go on your runs!!

Nat, I bet I ate way more than you did! LOL! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Well I went way overboard on the eating last night, like HUGE!! Then I barely slept last night. My little one is sick :( so I was up with him a little bit. When my alarm went off at 4:15, I wanted to roll over and go back to sleep, but I was meeting a friend and didn't want to stand her up, especially for a 10 miler. I went but it was somewhat of a struggle. Thank goodness she wasn't at the top of her game, either, or I would've been in trouble!! I did get a 2 hour nap in after church. ;)

Good Morning...

Only 10:30 and I am already home from the race.

It was about 45 degrees, sunny, a little windy. I ran with DH. We did good. I came in 2nd out of 2 in my age group. DH came in 3rd out of 3 in his age group. So funny, cause we were nearly last overall (only 2 or 3 people were behind us). Our average pace was 14:02.... run 21 seconds walk 60 seconds. My foot did hurt by mile 5, but not terribly. Still, I would like to get it so that it does not hurt at all.

After the race my husband wanted to leave 'cause it was cold. I wanted to stay because when I looked up last year's results there was NO ONE in my age group. We stayed. We both got medals. Somehow coming in nearly last and getting a medal does not go hand in hand.

An 82 year old ran the 5K today in 36 something. I thought that was great!

****

LISA: emoticon on your PR!!!

CRISSY: Hope you had a good time at the social and slept better last night.

NATALIE: Good luck on the 8K next weekend. You have been doing so good with running!

CORRINE: So were you running too fast for those 10 miles?

Donna, I'm sorry you couldn't have Mexican for dinner....what did you have? Yay for SI6 and doing 5 miles!!!
Corrine, you know we sometimes have crappy runs....maybe you just need a little more food??
Lisa, Yay for a great haircut!!! Yay for a PR!!!!! My hair looks pretty awful now, too. My hairdresser was off for 2 months doing rehab on his shoulder....I get it cut on Tuesday. I like to try out new workouts...I hope your Mom enjoys the walking...definitely easy to do.
We ended up having dim sum for lunch...we haven't done that for a while. Then a nice walk. Dinner was good...good food and good friends....but I ate toooooooooo much emoticon (or too many beans, at least ;-) Waiting for my husband to get up so we can go run. Then groceries...yuck!

Corrine: A trainer is a machine that connects to the rear axle of the bike and allows it to be used stationary. The resistance is adjustable so you can mimic riding hills or wind or just high RPM pedaling. The benefit of the trainer over an actual stationary bike is that you are using your true riding position on your actual bike. Glad the massage helped your foot feel better! Don't worry about your 10 miler. You know some days are just cruddy.

Jean: Good luck tomorrow! I have a pair of green Superfeet. My favorite insoles are Road Runner Sports.

Crissy: So sorry you are not sleeping! I wish I knew something that would help. My DH tried melatonin and didn't like it. He just started taking valerian root and said it seems to help.

Nat: My haircut looks great! (Thank goodness!) You know how you just keeping putting it off and then one day you think "OMG my hair looks awful!"? That's where I was. I love hearing your daily workouts because you always have something new. I think I am going to get a Lesley Sansone DVD for my mom because she hasn't been walking since it is dark by the time she gets is ready to walk.

Donna: Nice job on a workout and a 5 miler!

Today was the coldest day of the year. Crazy cold! It was 36* with 10-15 mph winds and "real feel" of 28*. We even had snow flurries during the post race party! I did get a PR, but it was a push in the final stretch to get it and only by a few seconds. BUT a PR is a PR!!

Jean - be sure to report back on those inserts if you wear them tomorrow. Have fun at your race!

Nat - enjoy your yoga and PT and have fun eating Mexican!

Crissy - I bet your 10 miles went better than mine. Being the speed demon that you are you can probably run 10 miles in an hour!

Donna - I know what you are saying about the wind! It is so miserable to run in! It sounds like you have the weather we had last week. If so, the weather I'm sending your way for next week is beautiful! Blue skies and a toasty 46!

My run was very disappointing today. I was able to go the full 10 miles - but barely. I was just tired most of the time. I have a 10 mile race on April 6th and I'm starting to worry about it.

Jean-glad to hear that your husband is back running again. Enjoy the race, not every race has to be a "race".
Crissy-enjoy the rest day. I need to "plan" one, mine normally happen cause I'm too tired to workout...like this past Monday.
Nat-Mexican for dinner...oh I wish! Mike just said I could pick my dinner choice but I know that doesn't include that option. LOL
Corrine-hope you 10 miler is good today.
Lisa-can't wait to hear your race report too.

AFM- I did Slim in 6 and then went for a freezing and windy 5 miler. I can't stand the wind and it's here for 3 months now. Welcome spring! At least the snow flurries held off til I got home.

Corrine, my short run was nice :-) Have a great 10 miler today!!
Jean, your husband is doing great!! I hope the superfeet work out for you. I actually have two pairs, berry and blue. The berry is nice that it cushions the toes but it definitely provides too much support for me....I can fell myself walking on the outsides of my feet. The blue are lower..maybe I should walk around in them today to see how they feel..I haven't done that in a while.
Crissy, my back is fine...just a little sore yesterday morning, but actually was better later in the morning. Maybe I slept weird?? You definitely need a rest day. Glad you slept better. Hope you can fight that cold off. Enjoy the social :-)
I'm heading down in a couple of minutes to do some runner's yoga and my PT exercises. Then we meet my brother and his girlfriend for lunch. Tonight we're going out for Mexican with friends. It's a good thing we are doing a "long" run tomorrow...4 miles....tapering for the 8K next weekend.

Jean, so glad your husband is hanging in there! I hope the new inserts work for you!

Corrine, enjoy that 10 miler! I'm running a 10 miler tomorrow. :)

Nat, hope your back feels better soon!!

Not much going on my way. Today is rest day and I needed it. I'm so tired and feel blah. I slept better last night. I still woke up a few times and was awake at 4:45 (ARGH!!) but was able to go back to sleep. I dozed off and on from 5:30 until 6:30 when I pulled myself out of bed. I'm fighting a cold so that's one reason why I don't feel good. :( Tonight we have a Sunday School social and while I plan to indulge, I hope not to go completely overboard. ;)

Hi team!

CRISSY: Hope you slept better last night. I know I have nights like that too.

Hi Natalie!

CORRINE: Have a "fun" 10 miler. In answer to your question.... I don't know why my foot started getting bothered again. I am not ruling out over-training. But also I use 2 pairs of shoes and one of them had over 400 miles. So that could also be it. It is the same issue I had last spring with both feet. So it could just be weak arches and arch support.

My husband has been doing good. When he started back running he was running 5 seconds and walking 60 seconds. He would increase it a second every one or two weeks. Now he is at 20 or maybe 21. He has perseverance.

****

I found this dealer (LOL) on-line. The business is called Foot Care Depot. It is mostly mail order, but does have a small walk-in customer area. On-line, I saw that they sold not only Superfeet, but also a variety of well known brands of inserts and shoes. I tried out some different inserts with my running shoes - went outside and ran up and down the sidewalk with them. I ended up buying one pair with arch support (Superfeet - the berry one) - which is also guaranteed for 2 months.

I will wear them around the house today and maybe go out and run 1 mile with them. If they work I sure would like to use them tomorrow.

Today is house cleaning day and race packet pickup day.

Jean - I'm glad to hear your DH is out there trying to run again. I remember is was so hard for him when he wasn't able to. I guess that means his health is getting better? Do you think maybe your arch has started to hurt because you made your running interval longer? Have fun at the 10K even if it is just a casual race!

Crissy - that sucks about not being able to sleep. But I do admire you for getting out and running 5 miles! Enjoy your rest day tomorrow.

Nat - I have some Leslie Sansone DVDs. I used to really like them - I used them when I was recovering from my hysterectomy - then I started running and never went back to the DVDs. How was your short run?

Tomorrow I'll be doing a 10 miler. Long, slow and easy! The weather is supposed to be gorgeous! I'm excited to get out in it!

Lisa, yes the exercise bike does have something to look at but I still need the TV on. emoticon TOM will definitely make you lethargic. I hope the haircut turned out nicely...you want to look fab for the pics from the race tomorrow!!
Corrine, it can take a very very very very long time to kick the PF. Yay for a great run!!
Jean, I totally get your frustration...I would be, too!! Hopefully the running store insoles will do the trick. Are they the ones that they custom mold to your feet? Yay for biking and ST. Just enjoy the race with your husband...they don't all have to be about racing....actually mine are all about enjoying it which is why I'm not that fast, I guess.
Crissy, I'm sorry you are having such a hard time sleeping...not good. I know that I'm am up a number of times during the night but can usually fall back to sleep pretty quickly. Yay for 5 miles!! Hope you can enjoy your rest day tomorrow....and get a good night's sleep.
I did my PT exercises, SP Sizzle-Sculpt workout and then walked 2 miles with Leslie Sansone yesterday. Woke up with a little arthritis soreness in my back...boo!! I'm still going to try for a short run this afternoon....it doesn't usually bother my back.

Jean and Lisa, good luck at your 10k's!!

Corrine, yay for no pain!! Good run. :)

Hi Nat!

Another night of no sleep. :( I don't know what's wrong. I'm falling asleep fine, just having a hard time staying asleep. I woke up around 3am so hungry that I felt sick and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and ate some peanut butter and raisins. :/ I turned my alarm clock off, fully intent on sleeping in and skipping my run. However, I was awake at 4:45 and couldn't go back to sleep, so I forced myself out of bed and ran 5 miles. I am so looking forward to my rest day tomorrow!!!!

Hi team!

Yes, I am a bit frustrated....
Thanks for the suggestions on using the inserts more gradually.

Actually.... I am going to return them and go to the running store and purchase the ones they suggested last spring - a year ago.

I do have a 10K on Sunday. I will participate with my husband. He is running 20 seconds, walking 60 seconds now. I think my foot can handle that without any additional issues. DH and I have never run a race at the same pace. This will be a first.

It is so tough to be in a race and not try my hardest.

Yesterday - biked and about 15 minutes of ST (which is good for me).
Today is a running day, but I am skipping it. Will bike again instead.

Lisa - when you say you do some time on the "trainer" what are you referring to? I love Matthew McConaughey! Good luck at your 10K this weekend.

Jean - I agree with Nat and Lisa - ease into the inserts. I hope you can get your arch figured out. I know how frustrated you feel! Are you running a 10K this weekend?

Crissy - how was your day off?

Nat - were you able to get a short run in?

Donna - I'm just proud of you for even trying STing!

Today I ran an easy 4.28 miles. Getting ready for 10 miles on Saturday. I massaged my foot before I got out of bed this morning and it really made a difference! I'm just going to have to be patient with this PF!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Corrine: Yay for a good run! I didn't follow the links posted, but stretching before I get out of bed was a big help when I had PF. Flex the foot as hard as you can and hold. Then point as hard as you can and hold. Do that a few times and you can step out of bed without pain. (At least that worked for me).

Crissy: I remember how much I treasured those days my twins went to MDO!

Donna: You will get there. Just stick with it and you will be doing more reps, more easily before you know it.

Jean: Nat is right... ease into those inserts. It's just like making a serious shoe change. You have to start with a mile and build.

Nat: Glad your shin is feeling better. I prefer the exercise bike over the trainer (except it doesn't help with real application on the road). At least there are flashing lights and a digital counter to distract/count down the end!

Well I ditched my ride last night. TOM came a day early and I am suddenly so lethargic. Swam this morning, but skipped the ST which is ok because it was going to be light anyway. I have a 10k on Sat. Getting my hair cut this afternoon because it looks a mess, or as my DD prefers to say "that only looks good on Matthew McConaughey in a surfer movie". If I can muster a little energy after that I may do some time on the trainer before dinner.

Crissy, awesome job on the workout!! Have a good run!
Lisa, I much prefer the treadmill to the exercise bike so I know how you feel. You are our ironwoman already!!! People in running races are pretty much never friendly....almost makes me want to do a tri....almost ;-)
Corrine, yay for a great run!! Boo for PF!!
Donna, you are getting stronger. I know how you feel about trying to run and do ST...takes so much time. Post-massage pain I think depends on how knotted the muscles are and how deep they go. I get clinical massages.....very deep to break up scar tissue...so painful during and after.
Jean, I'm glad the company is gone and you can get back to normal. I think you need to ease into those inserts...your feet are not used to the support.
Shin is fine today and was yesterday after those couple of weird hours. I do think it was the after effect of the massage and the muscles just needed to settle down. I'm going to do ST and PT exercises today and wait until tomorrow for a short run.

Hi team....

NATPLUMMER: How does your shin feel today?

LISA: I think what I wanted most is some kind of format. I will be starting with much less swimming than is recommended. This area will be my biggest challenge.

DONNA: You are doing great - given all you have been doing lately. Teaching always wore me out.

CRISSY: Maybe take a nap!!

*****

I think we are done with company for awhile..... it will feel really good to get back to healthier eating choices and also back to a regular routine.

INSERTS: I tried the new inserts yesterday and they put undo strain on the outside of my left knee. I am not sure what I am going to do about this. They did prevent my foot from hurting for about 3 miles though - then it started.

Maybe I just need some time off.

Donna, I hurt only a bit in my shoulders after my last massage. I think Nat gets sports massages and those are different from a "regular" one. Yes, stick with the workouts and you WILL get stronger!! I can't do all of the Iron Strength work outs but I do what I can while pushing myself.

Corrine, good job on the run but it stinks that your foot is still hurting. :( Way to hang in there, though!!

Lisa, I bet 90 minutes on the trainer is tough but you are Wonder Woman so you can handle it! How is your new "diet" going?

I couldn't sleep last night so here I am, up way too early. :/ Oh well, I plan to run in a bit, then come home and get ready for the day. Thursdays are "no gym days" for me since little man goes to day school and I use this day for errands, grocery shopping, etc.

Ya'll are killing me with this Iron Strength workout. I'm such a weakling that the Slim in 6 that Nat did last year is killing me. The first 2 weeks wasn't so bad..although at first I didn't think I would ever be able to use my arms again. My legs are strong so it didn't impact them at all. Then on Sunday I switched to section 2. I thought (foolishly) this isn't so bad...then the torture started. I will trust the process that in 2 weeks I'll be stronger. The time issue is my weakness. I want to run but I don't want to do a 45 min run and an hour workout. I just don't have that many hours in my day yet but I do know that time changes soon so I will gain some daylight and that will help a ton.

Lisa, as for the dessert party...the desserts weren't the best so that helped. I caught a kid take a bit of fruit and then put it back into the chocolate fountain so that ruined that for me. It was great to see so many of my former students..the ones I liked too...so conversations were good so that helped a lot.

Nat, I'm supposed to get a massage for my Valentine's present but I'm a bit apprehensive since you always hurt after yours. I've had 1 before and it was awesome but now I'm wondering if it was a fluke.

Jean - thank you, thank you for those links. That article was very helpful. I really like the idea of massaging my foot BEFORE I get out of bed. That just makes so much sense! I liked the video as well. I have been rolling on a frozen water bottle but I haven't been flexing my foot like the video showed. I watched a couple of other videos while I was on there. I already have one of those PF sleeves that Monty has. I feel like it helps - but by itself it won't fix my problem.

I went for a run yesterday afternoon. I was planning to run 4 miles and then once I got started I thought I would shoot for 4.5. When I reached 4.5 I was feeling really good so I went another 1/2 mile. It was a really, really good run. I guess taking 5 days off makes a difference. In fact it was 2 minutes faster than my last 5 mile run. My foot did pay for it last night but today it is back to it's normal pain. I WILL NOT let this PF stop me from running!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Sorry I'm 4 days behind!

Jean: The Olympic distance training plan may give you more swim and bike time than you want, but a Sprint training plan probably wouldn't challenge you enough in the first half. It's really good that your Dr is at least informed and helpful even if she isn't a runner. Taco Tuesday is our standard dinner, but at home. My DH actually pouts if I change it up.

Donna: Good job on limiting your indulgence at the dessert party! One cheesecake bite and small cookie? Such restraint! I never make comments to another runner. We are all so different in our form. Except there is a lady I see occasionally and I want so badly to tell her to loosen her arms, lol. She runs with both fists held up to her shoulders and rotates her torso so bad while her legs flail out to the sides. It's really funny to see her coming, but I imagine that causes her some problems. As for encouragement... that was an interesting discovery in triathlon. When other triathletes pass you, most will say something positive. That never happens in a running race.

Crissy: Big woo-hoo to you for getting back to your goal. AWESOME!

Nat: I ended up with a 9 mi Sat and brick on Sunday. It's hard to choose which group to pick over the other, but I ended up with a couple of people joining me on Sunday so that was good.

Corrine: Your poor baby with his wisdom teeth extraction! Last year I wished I had a video camera handy when my son was in recovery. So funny. Hope you are able to get in a run soon.

Nothing new here. Got through my weekend workouts, ran 7 Mon, Swam & ST yesterday, but skipped the bike last night. Ran 5 this morning. Coming up... 90 min ride to make up. It was supposed to be 64*, but doesn't look like it. I may have to bundle up. Really don't want to do 90 min on the trainer. You think the treadmill is bad? LOL. I think I will add some more of the Ironstrength into my ST time so I can keep up with you tough ladies!

Jean, good job on the butt strengthening!! Fingers crossed on your run!!!
I did 2.8 miles yesterday and then my PT exercises. Felt fab!!! This morning, however, my right shin was throbbing....weird. It was on and off for a few hours but is gone now. Yes, I took an ibuprofen about 45 minutes ago but it had actually stopped before. I'm thinking it's from the sports massage on Monday?? I'll be taking it easy today.

Hi team!

NATALIE: How was yesterday's run?

CRISSY: Good job on the IronStrength moves. I do bits and pieces of the Iron Strength workout. After doing it one time.... I finished the Anatomy for Runners book and decided to do the specific exercises suggested in the book for my "weak" running links. Lots of foam rolling; clamshells, pigeon hip extensions, donkey kicks, bridges with knee to chest. The author also suggests doing a bridge movement and then marching. I have a hard time getting each foot off the ground for the march in the bridge position. Shows I am weak.

***

Looking forward to my run this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed that the inserts help and also that my heals don't come out of my shoes.

Have an awesome day!

Jean, sounds like a helpful doctor!! I hope the arch supports help your feet. And $1 taco night sounds awesome!! :D

Nat, have a nice short run. :)

I ran 6 miles this morning then went to boot camp at the gym. My instructor and I are conspiring to include some of the IronStrength workout into the class so we did burpees and the row from plank moves. ;) She always has us doing push ups and squats, though. I'm planning to do the full IronStrength workout tomorrow morning since I'm not running.

Crissy, I bet it was as sight. Nice workout!!
Jean, I hope the arch support helps. She is right the the zero drop shoes work your calf a lot but that's not necessarily a bad thing...just something you need to ease into. Those shoes should help strengthen your feet and help your feet support your arches themselves...you may not need those arch supports for long. Sounds like a fun day to me..maybe you'll win enough at bridge for a couple of tacos ;-)
No workout this morning...resting my sore post-massage muscles. I will do a short run this afternoon and my pt exercises.

MY FOOT.....
My doctor thinks that I do not have enough arch support in the running shoes that I am using. She suggested getting a Dr. Scholl's insert (which I have done - $50.00). They are guaranteed and so I can try it out and see how it feels and how it makes my foot feel when running.

I had worn my new Merrell zero drop shoes to the appointmnet and she said - are you running in those. I said no, but was thinking about it. She said they are very hard on the calf.

It was good to realize she had some understanding of running even though she is not a runner. Her nurse is though......

Corrine, it looks like Jean gave you some good info. Hope you can get out for a run soon.
Jean, very productive day!! Yay for 7 miles running and 2 walking!!! I hope the doc has some good info for you.
My run went well...shins a tad sore later but I think that is from all the balancing I have been doing with the PT exercises. Brunch was nice...we walked there and back and I did well.
This morning I was going to get up and do some ST because I have my sports massage this afternoon but I was too tired...and a little dizzy...darn allergies. I brought the SP Total Body Sculpting DVD to work and did the Bodyweight Blast in my office....it definitely got me sweating. I'm glad nobody walked in on me emoticon

Lisa and Crissy - I don't think I would mind at all if somebody at the gym gave me pointers on how to do a machine or other move right. I'm pretty sure I do some things wrong (when I do go to the gym). I would probably take advantage of you and use you as a personal trainer.

Crissy - yay for reaching goal weight and for a slow 10 miles!

Donna - when I run on the trail we all wave hi to each other and sometimes give each other thumbs up. There are some very fast runners on the trail and I'm sure they would like to give me pointers - but they are in too big of a hurry. I feel the same way about having just taught myself to run. When I look at myself in a reflection while running - or in pictures from races I'm 100% sure my form totally sucks!

Jean - be sure to report how the tri-training program is working for you. I don't swim at all and don't have real easy access to a pool so swimming motivation is very low for me.

Nat - how did your 6ish miles go and how was brunch?

I haven't run since Wednesday!! My 18 year old DS got his wisdom teeth out Thursday - and it was like when he was 8 - he wanted his mommy with him. I took Friday off work and stayed home with him. Friday afternoon was beautiful and I really, really should have gone for a run - but I didn't. I was totally lazy! Saturday was a blizzard so I totally blew it! I've tried to convince myself that I'm giving my heel a good long rest - which is true - but it doesn't seem to have helped much. I don't know what more I can do to get rid of this thing!!

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Jean, I feel you on the taxes but it has to get done. Luckily, I don't have to do them. Ever since my parents died and we have the trust to deal with, it's better to have somebody who knows what they're doing deal with them. Yay for the zero drop shoes!! Even just walking in them will be helpful, I think. Good luck with the run and the doc!!
I'll be heading out for 6ish miles today and then brunch with friends...will try not to eat back everything I burned off ;-)

emoticon Hi Team!

DONNA: Actually, I usually give runners a "thumbs up" when I pass them whether I know them or not.

CRISSY: Congratulations! Back at your goal weight! WooHoo!!

NATALIE: You reminded me.... taxes....:(

****

Tried out some zero drop shoes yesterday. They sure feel different than my regular Brooks. I don't know if I will ever switch completely to zero drop, but I love the feel while walking in them.

Had a very relaxing day yesterday.

Today is suppose to be 13 LSR. Well, with this left foot - that will not happen. I'll just run till I think I should stop today. Going to my regular doctor tomorrow morning. Maybe she will have some insight.

Lisa, I'm doing my best to be strong for running and life in general. Did you do 8 miles or brick today? I will change my workouts around to suit the time or weather constraints.
Crissy, I'm with you....if I'm doing something wrong at the gym, I want to know. My back is still occasionally sore but it's down very low which makes me think it's really my butt. I will do more foam rolling. Wow!! Great job on the workout! Yay for goal weight!!! That is awesome! Saturday is usually my yoga day....it's nice to do the day before the long run.
Jean, dinner was very nice...thank you! Happy Birthday to your husband. Have a good time!! I hope the new shoes worked out well :-)
Donna, I'd be happy to have form corrections. Good for you getting out for a chilly and wet run!! You did great at the party!! Good luck with lunch. Yes, I think the remark from the endo is good.
I did my PT stuff....I even did 5 minutes of single leg hops with no rest (2.5 min/leg)...that's the max I'm supposed to do. Did some vinyasa yoga for runners....about 30 minutes, rather than the 80 minute intermediate yoga I usually do. Nice to change it up and I had to meet my brother for breakfast. Walked about 3 miles and saw the tax lady. Pretty good day "off."

Jean, that's why I weigh myself every day. I don't want any surprises!! I count my official weight on Saturdays, though. ;) Hang in there!!

Donna, I only give pointers about running to people who ask. April will be 3 years that I've been a runner, and I'm self-taught. Never ran before April 2010. :) I'm not good in the pep talk department, never was a cheerleader either. LOL! Good job on getting out there and getting that run done. :)

Today is my rest day. I'm thinking of doing yoga on Saturday mornings, though. I'm such a grumpy butt on Saturdays. Good news, though: as of this morning's weigh in, I'm officially back at my goal weight! I don't know how long it will last but as long as I stay within the 4lb range I set for myself, I should be fine. I let myself gain too much in December and don't need to do that again!! It's too dang hard to get off. :/ I plan to do 8 to 10 miles tomorrow.

I think it's funny reading these messages on telling what people to do while working out. I wish someone would run with me to give me pointers on what to do better. I feel I'm a terrible runner and have just taught myself. I never ran in school so didn't have any experience prior to 2 years ago. I only give encouraging comments if I see someone having a hard time on a hill around here. I love it if someone says something like that to me as I struggle up them. I live in a pretty hilly area. I went out for a chilly misty run this morning. It's drizzling and 35 degrees. Hubby tried to stop me but I had a dessert party last night which I only ate one cheesecake bite and 1 little cookie. So I was pleased, it's lunch out with the ladies today that will do me in though. Ugh! On a positive note...my endo doctor didn't chew me out about my 7 lb weight gain. He said he is surprised with everything that has happened in the last 7 months he is surprised it wasn't higher. I'm taking that as a good thing. LOL So I will keep plugging away. I go to the mean GP in June so those 7 and then some had better be gone or she will ream me a new one. LOL

Have a great day team!

Donna

emoticon Drinking some water today!

TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO: I cannot tell you the number of times I pass runners (even if I am not running) and want to shout things like - keep your elbows in - stop bouncing - your posture needs help - etc...., but I rarely say anything.

NATALIE: Hope you had a nice dinner with your BF!

LISA: It is called - 16 week Olympic - run focused. It is the structure that I need for non running days.

CRISSY: I agree - that IronStrength workout is very difficult.

****

I got weighed this morning and it was a shocker! I am sitting here (4:22 A.M.) with water and determination!

Today is my husband's 68th birthday. We are having friends over and then going out for a nice dinner.

I am going to take my new shoes for a short run this morning just to see how they feel and burn some needed calories.

Have a great day!

Back to day # emoticon

Lisa, if I'm doing something incorrectly at the gym, I'd LOVE it if someone told me the correct way so I wouldn't be wasting my time doing it wrong!! I will change my workouts up when I need to. The only thing I don't like to change up is my long run day because I like to rest the day beforehand. But yes, I do change my workouts in order to fit everything in.

Jean, I think that's a great idea to use a tri program! I never thought of doing that but then again, I don't bike or swim. LOL

Nat, way to go on another good workout! How does your back feel?

I got in a 5 mile run this morning, then went to the gym and did the IronStrength workout. Wow, it sure is tough! I rested a little bit more between my sets than I should've, and I wasn't able to do everything but I got most of it done. I suspect I will be sore tomorrow. ;) Thank goodness for a rest day!!

Crissy: I'm so glad you feel the same way because sometimes I feel like such a bossy know-it-all sticking my nose where it doesn't belong with people I don't really know. So often I want to point out proper use or form and I just bite my tongue. Except I finally couldn't take it anymore and had to correct a woman last week on her walking lunges. She looked like she was doing the wedding aisle march. There was no bend in her back leg. Just a step, stop. Step, stop. It was comical, but after watching her for weeks I was about to burst. I don't think she was very appreciative of my instruction. She said "like this?", made the correction to finish that length of the floor then walked away. Oh well.

Jean: Sounds like you had a well deserved day of fun after the visit with BIL & wife. Which tri training plan do you have? I bet you will really enjoy it. Even though it is structured, it gives you a plan for something every day so you are more obligated to do your crosstraining.

Nat: You are really good about varying your workouts. You get a lot of work done on different muscles which is so good for you.

I haven't decided which day I will do which workout, but I have an 8 mile run for one day and a brick day (bike/run consecutive) of 2 hr bike + 4mi run. Tomorrow will be kind of cold in the morning for the bike whereas Sunday will be much nicer. I really prefer to do my hard workout first. But if I run tomorrow I can run with the group instead of both days being solo. Do y'all change your workouts around?

Amy, I think we all do fall into a time pattern of logging in. :-) Yay for ST!!!!!
Lisa, I do like the BOSU. It's really good for balance. There was a time when I was doing step aerobics a lot and used to use it (flat side down) instead of a regular step. I should start doing some of that again. When I went to the gym, I noticed that most ladies didn't really do much of a workout.
Corrine, I went 3.5 miles using the 1:1 podcast (and a tad extra to make it to 3.5 miles). See...you are not a slug.
Crissy, you are lucky you don't sweat much....I get soaked!!
Jean, it does sound like a nice day. I hope your foot cooperates on your run. I don't want to have to BOO!
My stabilizer muscles are pretty sore: calves, peroneals, tibialis.....those squats on BOSU are no joke and neither is all that hopping. I was going to get up early and do some elliptical (and sweat for sure) but I was tired so I slept in. I do have go offsite to visit a study subject and when I come back I'll have to park about a mile away, so at least I'll get some walking in. I'm meeting my BFF for dinner and shopping at the mall, so more walking there.
