SKY - I don't think it is cheap to think you can make the same thing or better. I think it is often something that creative folks do. It can't be cheap since I am always buying the materials to do the same thing except better or slightly different -- and then not doing it.

Hello all - just went to Junk Bonanza again and saw some wonderfully inspired and quite Steamy home decor and jewelry. I must be pretty cheap because most of the time I end of seeing something that I like and think "I can make that" but of course I never do. Hope everyone is well and has fun plans for Spring. emoticon

That's what I get for not checking out the site before I recommend it. The timeline-thegame.com domain name is up for sale! If I find it anywhere else I will let you know! emoticon

OK, if you go to Amazon and look for Timeline game you will see the wonderful box art! I promise! I went there and did it!

The family and I were at the mall last week and I found a set of games called Timeline. What caught my eye was the lovely steampunk art on the boxes! I ended up buying the "Inventions" one. I was curious about the artist who designed the box and game cards and inside it said: Nicolas Fructus & Xavier Collette. It's a very simple game of trying to place the times inventions happened in chronological order. If you want to check them out the website is :www.timeline-thegame.com.

I'm afraid I don't know of any fantastic books aimed at the steam punk gent. The Victorian Tailor by Jason Maclochlainn is an interesting reference book, it isn't steampunk but it might give some ideas for things you can do to modern clothing to shift it's look a bit. Otherwise I'd turn to the usual online resources- Steampunk emporium is decent for clothing, and etsy might be a good choice for accessories. If you want him to get involved I'd look up some simple DIY projects (pardon me while I imagine your whole family sitting around the table crafting goggles or altering vests together! aww!)
My costuming is going well. I'm just about done with Baba Yaga I would post pictures,.. but I've misplaced the camera cord in our move so it will have to wait. I ended up dropping the Raven costume (for this year) because there was too much left to do on it. Instead I'm putting together a quick Fly costume- bloomers, wings and over-sized goggles with mesh lenses. It is close to being ready to go also and will be good silly fun and a lot more comfortable for walking around in. We are getting pretty darn excited!

I'm happy you got the book. That was definitely one I was desiring. I wasn't able to get to the link at Amazon - said it was unavailable or something but I have looked through it on Amazon before. I was wondering if any of the other steampunk books you mentioned or others out there have more "male" projects. Since my husband has taken more of an interest in steampunk - he is on the look out for wardrobe accessories and props. I don't know how much interest he has in creating his own though. He doesn't have a problem buying what others have made. emoticon I do hope you are able to make use of the techniques the book explains though. Have you done anymore on Baba or the Raven costume?

So I finaly got my hands on this book and I rather like it. It has a decent overveiw of steampunk and solid instructions on a handful of projects. It would be fantastic for a steampunk newbie or a beginer sewer to use as a starting off point for their wardrobe as most of it's projects use modern clothing as a base. My main crtiticism is that there was only one project really aimed at the gents, and then only loosly (embelish a flask). We are resoursful folks and can apply the tequniques in diffrent ways but it annoys me slightly since I feel steampunk encourages male participation in the more "domestic" arts.

Too cool Sky blue! I didn't know about this bar, possibly because I have a bit of an aversion to big cities, but it looks facinating! My someday travel list just added LA, I'd never have expected that!
I've heard of face off but havent seen it.. I'll have to see if I can watch it off the internet.

So many great steamy books - so little time/money emoticon . Thanks STELLAR!

I was watching FACE OFF the other night. (In case you don't know what FACE OFF is it's a reality show about make-up artists competing for a $) and one of the challenges was to create a character from the video game "Dishonored". The video game is set in a steampunk world. The character creations were very cool. I really like the show especially when it involves steampunk. The contestants all met at a club called The Edison before they began the challenge. I would love to go there sometime. I originally thought that The Edison was in NY but I guess it's LA. If you want to see this place: www.edisondowntown.com/main.htm Lots of steamy fun !

Wonderful! Although I may be pretty easy to please in the movie department. I love action and of course steam so the combo seems great! Hopefully it will be released around here. My dearest likes the look of it as well. Thanks for sharing STELLAR!
