Hang in there David...it will get better. I went from about 6 Mt. Dews a day to 0...it was tough. I found some pain relievers (bulk ordered here at work) with caffeine in them...what a lifesaver. I rarely drink dews at all anymore. I have an occassional iced coffe or frappachino, but very limited. I am not even close to thinking of giving up all sugar...that's not even a long term plan right now. Good luck to you.

Tammy - yep, actually two fairly decent headaches, two different evenings. Then today I caved and drank some coffee in the morning. I was so tired!

Giving up sweets altogether is a good idea. I had a friend who quit sugar and lost a lot of weight. It's definitely something to consider.

Last night when my husband was at work I wanted salted peanuts and I know he keeps a can in the garage. I took the garage APART and couldn't find the can and I was with him when he bought it yesterday! By the time my search was over I didn't want peanuts any more! I lost my craving for "something". I called him at work and he told me he had hidden the can. I thanked him for hiding it so well I never found it! Hurrah!

Good for you AUDRAVAN! We have a candy jar at our office too. I finally taped the lid shut, covered it with a peice of contruction paper and drew a skull & cross bones on it. All 3 of us in the office have written messages on the paper and now NONE of us get into the jar and we have all started losing weight again. Sounds like drastic measure, I know, but something had to give. haha

I think that the "Monday's" should become an official name and diagnosis. HA! I know I suffer from it!

I have been on this roller coaster for so long. It's amazing how in your head, you can convince yourself of so many things.

I've been trying to get back on track since May. I've only gained. I work in a medical office and we have this candy jar. If we take the candy jar over to the pharmacy next door, they will fill it up with candy. It has been impossible to keep myself out of that jar. It was getting to the point where I would eat out of it, using up all my calories. So, I'd take away my afternoon snack. Then it was just "one more," and I'd end up losing my afternoon snack and then something out of my dinner. I just had to give it up cold turkey.

So, on WEDNESDAY (not Monday emoticon ) I gave up sweets. And, I've started losing again. First time I've seen the scale move down in a long time!!

DAVID how are you doing without the caffeine? Any headaches?

I can relate to a lot of what has been said on this thread. I am having a terrible time and I weigh more now than when I first joined the site in frustration and shame.

I know how to "eat right" only I know like a million ways and I'm not sure which one to do. Quit sweets altogether? Try moderation? I have no idea where to start.

Good advice was given earlier in the thread about taking one step at a time, developing one habit at a time. I just have so many bad habits it's hard to know where to start. For example, I just quit caffeine because I haven't been sleeping well and I know that's bad for me.

I can relate to your 'Monday is the day....' cycle. I truly don't know why I did that either. I guess I figure I bombed on Thursday or Friday and why mess up the weekend by getting back on track, so I'll just wait until Monday. I try to think about it differently, instead of thinking of getting back on track and being healthy as a task that I have to do, I try to make myself see that it's a good thing that I get to do, that I want to do. I suppose because it's hard to start new habits I get into the mindset that its a task. I am trying to change my way of thinking as I change my eating/exercise habits. It's all mind games so to speak.

This is my first time writing on the message boards, but I felt somewhat motivated by this topic and decided to contribute.

I am not sure if others experience this same, awful phenomenon, but it's a crazy form of perfectionism - where you start each day as a brand new one, knowing what to do, how to eat, when to exercise, etc. As the day goes on, because you are human, you may eat something you should not. And then... THE DAY IS RUINED! It's over! I may as well eat more. I have messed up the day, there is no going back. I will start fresh tomorrow. Or even better...

MONDAY!

I have the absolute worst case of the Mondays. Depending upon the day in the week when I commit crimes against food, I will either try to get back on track the next day (Monday or Tuesday), or if it is the end of the week and I have "messed up" I will continue to commit offenses and start again on Monday. That Monday is always THE day. It is the day to start over; to be fresh; to be perfect... It is the day that I will tell people about when they ask me months/years from now how I lost all of the weight.

I picture myself saying, "My journey to weight loss began on a Monday in October..."

If anyone else has such catastrophic behaviors, please tell me what you do to maintain the course and get out of the mentality that one mistake does not mean hours or days more of mistakes...

I need to get back on track too. I've lost about 35 lbs. in the past year, but need to lose about 100 more. We have a weight loss contest at work, and you would think that would keep me motivated, but it doesn't. I start out good but lose it by the end of the day - and then weekends are awful. We do Wednesday morning weigh-ins, and I gained 2 lbs. this week. I went to the beach over the weekend with friends and really overdid it, and I know that's why. But I am frustrated and unhappy with myself. I know, stop beating myself up and just start over and focus. So that's why I'm here. I've never joined a team before, nor posted to any of these forums so I thought maybe that would help. Any other suggestions?

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Randy Pausch

I'm with you on getting back on track. The last week for me hasn't been stellar. Then this weekend was our (canadian) thanksgiving. I had 2 dinners. Went way over my calories and had dessert. So I'm starting again today too. It sucks & I feel guilty and bloated, but I know if I don't get back on track I'm only going to feel more discouraged and guilty. Keep at it, even if it takes you twice as long to get to your goal you'll still get there eventually. And you have the rest of your life to be healthier.

I can't agree more. I have bad days and good. I recognize the bad & shoot for the good the next day. The more we beat ourselves up, the worse we feel, the more we fall off the path. You have the support here - use it!
Good luck!

Hey! don't beat yourself up, it does no good. You know what you did to go off track and you know what you need to do to get back to that happy place! I went over my calories all last week but managed to stay within the limits on my fats ect. We are all here to encourage not judge. So get up, yes, get up and get going again!

Well, remember in the western days that if you fell off a horse you had to get back on it? Consider Team EE your horse! Just jump back on - the "horse" doesn't mind"!

I recommend challenges - about 1 a week. It will help keep you motivated. And don't try to do everything at once! Schedule & master 1 thing at a time, about 1 every 3 weeks or so.

Good luck & welcome back! There's no judgments here!

Every day is a new day!!! You came to the right place for support...give yourself credit for knowing when you need to talk about it and where to go...it's much easier just to say "the heck with it" than it is to say "I need help"...ya know what I mean??? Good for you for being honest with yourself!!!!

I went back to old eating habits for the last couple weeks or so. I have so many reasons to start eating better.

Anyway I'm kind of frustrated with myself now but I really just wanted to communicate with the group again since I had only posted once before.
