So I had a few stressful days...I talked about it on my blog yesterday and today...yesterday was really hard, as were the few days before that. But I made it through with no set backs..NONE. I am so thankful for that.

Soobies, the day has come and gone. How do you feel? Funny how we anticipate feeling different but don't. It's a relief and a let-down at the same time, I think.

That you connect this round-numbered birthday to your mother isn't at all surprising. Thirty is one of the wake-up-call birthdays for most people, it seems, so a little extra celebration and reassurance is in order. A year and a half is a short time when it comes to the Big Lady in our lives. You're alright.

Yay, so happy for you! My birthday is tomorrow and I'm turning the big 30, without my mom around as she passed away 1.5 years ago, didn't realize how this milestone would affect me especially not having her here to talk to me, seems so petty to me now, but I've been emotional eating the past few days, it does affect us, thinking about missing them on special days, but your post made me smile, I'll keep trying.

Nancy, thank you for sharing that. I'm glad we were both able to have healthy days. I think it shows real progress!

Nancy, I didn't know about your son. You, too, had a bitter-sweet day and triumphed.

That is truly a victory - yesterday would have been my son's 43rd birthday had he lived - I too made healthier choices throughout the day and did not succumb to the temptations of emotions. We are both to be congratulated for understanding that FOOD and ALCOHOL do NOT equal comfort or erase the pain of missing those who have gone on to their reward.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

So proud of you. And you honored your grandmother by taking care of your body - it's what I'm sure she would have wanted.

Well done! Some traditions should be broken and it did not mean you couldn't keep the tradition of celebrating her birthday. You just realised you didn't have to binge to do it! emoticon

And well you should be. The combination of your grandmother's birthday and the family practice of eating to beat the band holds power. You've shown yourself to be more powerful. Your grandmother would be proud of you, too.

Had she lived, today would have been my grandmother's birthday. It is a very tense time for my family. My mother does not handle it well at all. We all had dinner as a family this evening. Everyone else did the customary overeating and drinking that we seem to do in both good times and bad. But I made good choices, avoided the junk, did not consume alcohol. All of these things are ways that we have historically dealt with pain and joy in my family. But today, I was able to be physically and emotionally present without engaging in the food/alcohol free for all. I am very proud.
