We had about a foot and while Ed told me it has cleared up, it was still snowing/sleeting/raining about 8 p.m. so who knows if we will have a delay or snow day or full day of school tomorrow? If it warms up instead of cooling off, we will be okay, but again there is the whole night ahead to make up its mind.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

I spent a lot of today getting vitamin S (sleep) and after yesterday's vitamin R infusion, by tomorrow I should be feeling a LOT better. Thanks for your concern. I hate being under the weather especially when it is time for the weather to get HEALTHY and warm up some - these cold days are killers. It is snowing again tonight.

You're a wonderful doctor, Faith! Thanks so much - and this evening, I'm just about back to normal (well, as "normal" as I get! emoticon ) Here's wishing you a restful, happy weekend! I might make the DH some pizza tomorrow. I make the crust, sauce, and sausage - but I don't know how to make mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, and I imagine they are WAAAAAY over my head! I even have the sauce and sausage all pre-made and frozen, so there'll be little to no work involved - just making the crusts.

Oh, yes - I don't know how to make pepperoni, either. Glad I have some of that in the freezer! My husband lost around 70 lbs. a few years back, and we figured that he could still have his pizza (and eat it, too!) provided I got these neat little 6" pizza pans! They have holes in the bottom so the air circulates, and the crusts stay nice and firm without ever getting soggy (I also pre-bake 'em).

So I think I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow... emoticon

Faith, a terrific sense of humor is a fantastic gift to have in life - and you've got it in abundance emoticon emoticon

I woke up this morning with some sort of nasty "bug"...so any burrowing dust bunnies were more than safe! emoticon

The good news is, no appetite. And the bad news is...no appetite! I've felt sore, queasy, and dizzy all day - logged lots of time sleeping and popped a little Tylenol. Can't wait for it to depart! Am I angry at this bug?? You BET!! emoticon

Faith, Spark has a housecleaning "calories burned" calculator, though it's not specific according to type of housework: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calorie
s_
burned.asp?exercise=86

My own calculator is one I got from the FitDay software, which I imagine you could still find via www.fitday.com. (Edited to add: I just took at look at their site, and it looks like you can get a free version which includes the activities calculator, so I imagine if you signed on for that (no cost), you could have access to their calculator without having to pay extra...)

But there are a few more calculators, so you might not even need that one at all:

I'd be interested in knowing what you thought of these. Good luck!

Where do I find the house cleaning fitness tracker I miss out on so much fitness tracking cause I clean for days on end on a lot of days and laundry and all that stuff?

CIRANDELLA you are so right it is a human emotion, the thing I have been working on for the most part of my life is learning to deal with my anger the "right way". Anger is a form of courage if it is dealt with we need to stand up for ourselves or others if it is unacceptable behavior from other's, but for me there is a right and a wrong way. I would love to be able to take some anger management classes gonna look into that at the college for a start to try and find one. Like I said I have worked on it a lot in my life and years ago I had some aggression verse assertiveness training, but would love to do it again since I started my journey I am working on it more than ever.

MRSKATEDUVALL writing is the best I am starting that today so thank you.

Kate, I read somewhere, "Write before you bite," and it's a strategy that's pretty powerful...as you've told us here! Anger's just a normal emotion. I've even heard it described as a form of courage...that ultimately, we reach for that courage. It's not easy to find the right avenues for expressing anger, but writing is such a good, strong, and safe one! emoticon

I had an aha moment, and figured out the anger behind my last binge. What really helped was writing about it. Now I am going to try and blog first, instead of standing in front of the fridge. Anger is scaring to me, all my life I have been told that I have a sarcastic temper and that it wasn't ladylike. Growing up, anger was a taboo emotion. Lots of learning here.

Faith, please don't ever beat yourself up for *anything* you do,don't do, or eat. You don't deserve to punish yourself for making an occasional slip-up - gee, we all do that now and then! It's just part of being human. As soon as you can, try to put the stress you're feeling from the slip-up aside and just forge ahead, doing the best you can in the present. Stress itself can lead to overeating (I wrote the book on that one :)

The more we build on mindfulness and consistency, the smoother will be our progress. By that I mean, it's helpful to stay mindful of that calorie intake and to track what we eat - it's a great habit to try to permanently cement in place, especially for those of us who have a past of compulsive or binge-eating (that would DEFINITELY be me!). I *have* to write down what I eat because I don't have anything close to a normal appetite, or a "normal" sense of how full I am - because I never seem to feel full. I'm either hungry or stuffed, and I don't really detect or sense all those levels in between. But if I track what I eat, I can make up for that problem of mine, I've found. The more consistently I can do that, the better my results are.

I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably always have to track what I eat, but it's a small price to pay for staying at my desired weight, I figure - especially since I'm not able to do much in the way of calorie-burning exercise.

There are some fitness trackers which give you a "calories burned" count for housework. I have the FitDay software, and it does, I know. FitDay tells me that if I vacuum for 15 minutes, I burn 39 calories. I'm not sure if they automatically calibrate that taking my weight into consideration... I'd burn 67 calories in 15 minutes of moving furniture. I used to try to analyze all this, but it was too much of a headache. Now, I've just come to the realization that the more I move around in the course of a day, the more calories I'm bound to expend. It's interesting to see it in black and white, though!

Thanks Chulavista. Yes, I know I have others, but the anger really made me feel truly like super out of control. Good to hear you are working on yours and that this group exists to help. I just finished a book called - "Crave why Why you Binge Eat and how to stop by Cynthia M. Bulik" and it gives a great number of things that clicked for me.

I'm just hoping I can keep it under control the next time. I'm implementing some of the things she suggests so one step at a time

Thanks Cirandella. I'm starting cross-fit on Thursday. I think I'm finally ready for the challenge of those work outs :) I've moved past training independently and now need coaching to kick me into high gear. 2 weeks till hopefully I can get my bike out on the road!

This weekend was a good weekend. I managed to get back on track and gain some control. I journal ed my feelings and it made a big difference.

Gypsy, excellent job on identifying your anger trigger. That's only one of the many triggers I've discovered I have. I'm working on it as well, and like you said - we are all a work in progress. Keep up the good work!

I think it's great that you have pin pointed what triggers your emotional eating so you can work on it. Sometimes there are so many emotions and past events that we don't always know what led to it. You have a great start to work from. emoticon emoticon

You are making progress and getting two days a week is MUCH better than NO days a week and look at yesterday - double your planned minutes. Stay positive and you will see that the other days start to fall in place for you.

Yes it does!!!! Most mornings I have a hard time getting the coffee on emoticon that is why if I have my veggies all chopped I can through it all in the pan, and have it all done at the same time emoticon emoticon emoticon Another thing I don't know if I posted this here before, but here I go.

I was always panicing about going over my calorie intake and all for the day. I had been logging my food everyday so that day that I thought I had really blew it I went ahead and logged everything I had ate. As it turned out it wasn't really that bad. Plus I had read a SP article about cheating and it said if you had a day now and then that you really wanted to eat something not in your food plan you could cause as long as you did not triple your intake for a day that in the end it averaged out as long as you got right back on the plan. That has helped me so much to because now I am not afraid to log it I actually want to see a lot less beating myself up with guilt if you actually know how much and find out its really ok sometimes.

The biggest hill I have to get over right now is getting that 10 minutes of exercise in a day I got it down to like 2 a week but not near enough today I got double that in.

How do you track fitness when you cleaned and moved furniture around and vaccumed? emoticon emoticon

Congratulations on developing a really great new behavior that'll serve you well, Faith - chopping up those veggies and meat ahead of time! We're all groggy enough when we first get up that all that prep work can seem a little overwhelming first thing. I even put out our vitamins for the next day the night before, when I set the table for breakfast, because I've got just enough awakeness and awareness - LOL! - in the morning to plug in the coffee and make breakfast. Plus, my husband and I eat completely different foods, too.

That advance planning really helps, doesn't it? emoticon

Thanks CIRANDELLA the online spice company will help I can find most, but we do live in a rural area and do have to drive to even a good price on them. what I pay 99 cents for a big bottle here in town it would cost you 3.00. I took one more small step today that is big progress for me, when I first started SP I ate breakfast that was a big problem for me well I stopped again and seen my progress slow down because of it, so today when I made my breakfast I chopped up the veggies and meat that I add to my eggs preparing ahead of time that was one I never did either. I intead to keep that up for breakfast at this time since that is the hardest meal for me to eat and the most important. Faith

You're welcome, Faith, and your idea of taking what so often looks like an overwhelming, daunting tak by taking babysteps is so very wise! Plus, congratulations on fortifying your cupboards with a good collection of spices - good for you, for getting them on sale, too.

There's an online store called the Great American Spice Company which sells an amazing assortment of spices, seasonings, and extracts. I've often ordered from them and have been really pleased...because I like all kinds of flavors in everything from Greek yogurt to baby carrots. I get my huge containers of spices from Costco, and I try to get many of the McCormick spices from Walmart, where they're a good deal cheaper than at our local chain groceries.

Where there's a will, there's a way...good for you!!

It's a little hard to get in the habit of interrupting feelings by writing them down, but it really has helped me. And I can't wait 'til we get to cheer you for a TRIATHLON!! emoticon

Thank you for the tip! Yes, I think I need to start writing down my anger in a safe setting. I think that's why I started to 'eat' it. Because when I expressed in when I was in the rage it was bad bad bad. If I can drop the rage on a piece of paper and then speak normally about whatever was bothering me, perhaps I will do that! I suppose that would work for most emotions.

Life is a work in progress no doubt! Thanks for all the support!

First and foremost, let me congratulate you on a really dramatic success! Well DONE!!

I think that whether we've had weight-loss surgery or not (I hadn't), it's pretty common for us to have a history of overeating when we've been very angry...mostly because it was inappropriate or difficult to express that anger in a given situation. Sometimes, it's helped me to sit down at the computer and bang out an angry, caustic, usually very sarcastic letter (always written on Note Pad, or so that's the way I've done it out of habit) to the person or people who provoked my wrath. I really give 'em hell, Harry! :) The great thing about doing it on Note Pad is that you really can pull out ALL the stops. Then I reread it, because for some reason, that gives me a great deal of satisfaction. I like to see the anger up there in lights, as it were, because that's the only time I'll get to completely and thoroughly vent it.

Then I resolve to be reasonably assertive with the source and to be firm in whatever resolution that means. Fairness is important..

If I do this, I'm always able to avoid binge-eating over the anger. It can work on those other emotions, too...

All the best to you!

Thanks everyone. It is a difficult process. I wish there was a switch in my brain to say "stop doing that!" lol I guess that's why we need to work on these things. Baby steps. Hopefully during the next big binge I can get a handle on it. Having talked about it definitely helps!

emoticon job of fiquring out your triggers. I am a slow learner to say the least I always heard them say find out why you eat? Well I would just thing every emotion makes me eat, but now that I am serious about loosing this weight for good I am learning that not only did I eat happy, sad, angry, ect. I always thought besides emotional eating that that thing they kept wanting me to find was one thing that made me binge eat, not I am finding that it is not just one thing it is a whole lot of things and it is making eating right so much easier, that's another thing I am making it simpler this time I always made it to hard by trying to do it all at once starting with stocking the kitchen now I am doing all that in small babysteps I just bought spices to keep around that is a big step for me by browsing the recipes I bought the common spices in a lot of them to have around and did find them all on sale. I hope this made some kind of sense. Faith

You are doing great and recognizing the triggers allows you to PLAN for them and find other ways to deal with them. Good for you and keep working at it - remember you have a whole lifetime to find solutions for ALL of them.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Good catch! I've updated it, cause yes that would be a bit misleading :) That would be an extreme amount to lose in a short period! Very unhealthy

Before more newcomers' jaws drop, you might want to correct the date of your surgery. Your page shows December 2012, a couple of months ago. No one loses 100 pounds in two or three months. Too bad, but it's the sad truth.

Yes, the surgeries are tools, but our heads rule above all. That's one of the many reasons we roll our eyes when people with a bias against surgery say, "Oh, you took the easy way..."

I had lost 30 pounds before surgery and have lost just over 100 since surgery a year ago in December.

I'm worried because I know this is starting on the time frame where people can possibly start to gain the weight back.

I can see why, because the restriction is not as restrictive (I know how to eat around it if I choose too) And the surgery didn't fix my brain..which in regards to eating and why I eat is still broken. So now I'm trying to work on that. I know its related to emotions and boredom. The second one is easier..the first is a struggle.

You've done such good work on analyzing the anger/food connection.

Is it really only a couple of months since you had bypass? If so, I'm curious to know why you had the surgery after having lost most of the weight prior. I had lapband surgery in October, 2009, and did very well for the first 15 months, but then ran into snags and have regained a lot. Struggling to pull the reins in.

So I've been dealing with some heavy emotional triggers this past while. I couldn't really pinpoint it, or rather I was so wrapped up in the binge that I couldn't see past it to what was happening.

I've moved away from the binge and started examining what I was feeling and why. It really came down to anger and suppressing it. For a long time I was told that I had such a temper, so I think I worked on it, but probably not in the most positive way. I worked on it by 'eating my anger' I see it now (there is other emotions that I 'eat' as well but that's another issue LOL) I was anger, and instead of just saying to the person "I feel 'pissed off' when you do this" I went out of control, binging like crazy. I don't remember the last time I felt this truly out of control.

I still struggle with just saying what is bugging me, I don't want to see whiny and needy, but I have to get this under control, cause it's sabotaging all my hard work.

Anyways I had to get this off my mind, cause now I have to work at implementing a solution..of some kind...that works for me

Thanks for listening
