The "not too" philosophy was originally given to me when I was in counseling for depression. I later was told the same thing by a doctor in dealing with some of my physical health issues. It REALLY has helped and I have been really lucky and BLESSED that it has helped me avoid the need for antidepressants and also to avoid a lot of my binging.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Similar to HALT, a phrase I use is: Don't get TOO . . . too full, too tired, too hungry, too lonely, too stressed, too busy, too lazy, etc.

Basically I try not to let myself get TOO anything - and remember that moderation really helps a lot.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

tiffany-"every thing in moderation' it always works. if u don't allow yourself to eat what you want every once in a while you'll go crazy binge eating but when you allow yourself a little bit it helps kill the craving. lol. then the following day you wont be upset because you didn't over do it. when I do this people always tell me thst little bit is all u r going to eat? I reply with yes I have to leave room for other good food.lol.its better to leave room for more rather than make room. at least that's how I see it! good luck.ttyl.

Thanks Kathy391, I do know all those things and their very good Idea's. I just have to think about that list , instead of going straight for the candy..I also think pumpkin makes you lose weight , it seems to for me anyway. I guess we all have a problem or else we wouldn't be here ! But were all trying to help each other and thats the way its done....

I was so focused on staying on track that I forgot to do the math and today realized that I had lost over 50 pounds.
Wow! Guess that IS taking it one day at a time and not focusing upon the final tally.
It was a really wonderful surprise for me.

Kathy- my goal is the same as yours, enjoy in moderation. I am going to allow myself a bit of anything I want but eat lots of the healthy things I like. If I am already nearly full, I will be satisfied with a bite or two of the less healthy choices.

I plan to continue with my healthy lifestyle program. I am only 2 lbs from my goal and do not intend to blow it now. I know I will indulge on Thanksgiving day, but I will watch my portions. I will make every effort to stay away from overeating or eating sugary foods through the Christmas holidays. I have managed to get through the holidays without gaining weight previously and hope to add this year to this record.

Chikawanna- I too know how it is to have to stay away from sugar. Plain and simple it Sucks! Especially during TOM when i crave chocolate..OMG . i feel your pain, however there are healthy alternatives...can you eat fruits? if your a chocolate lover like me you might try a dark chocolate dip for some strawberries? or Maybe try some tea with some honey, i personally like a vanilla honey chamomile tea. it is so good and not many calories ..or you might want to make some jello with your favorite fruit inside. or how about apples you can make so many things, like grill them and sprikle a liitle cinamon and huala it taste just like apple pie except you avoid all the starch from the pie crust. How about a homemade smoothie...so delicious and fresh you get in your fruits and its low calorie and only natural sugar ( from the fruits). Just some suggestions.. Good Luck!

Chickywanna- I love this and feel that it is soooo true, thats why ive started a new rutine for myself. Every day i've decided to choose one thing that i will focus on that will help me lead a healthier lifestyle, this way i wont say "i want to do this" "i need to do that" , instead i say "i will do this" and because it is my focus i will in deed do it !

Very motivating comment, thank you

Mitchdy- family time is what the holidays are all about especially thanks giving, at least thats my perspective. Im glad that was the first thing you said on your mesage,Its time to be thankfull for what we have, i myself will also be enjoying being around my family. Its going to be tricky staying away from carbs though, since my family cooks alot of rice, pastas and sweets however im with you on this one, i will be controling my portions as well, and eating mindfully. Mind over body right? I will be visiting alot of my families houses for the holidays so it will be kind of hard to say no..what i will do on the other hand is say okay but just a little. hahaha . Good luck to you.

Got a tip for you, but I'm guilty of saying this myself..Don't say I'm gonna try; always say I am going to_____________.. If it Quit then you must say , I am going to quit _____.. I know this from a book on psychology because if you say I'm gonna try and quit ____..Then thats what you'll do , You'll "try"then go right back to smoking or whatever...I think its Yoda "there is no "try" either "do" or "do not" (LOL) ( thats close to what she said )...You listen to what you say ( no body else does , right ?)

My plan is to focus on family time, not overeating time... I am going to try to watch my portions, and be careful with white carbs.

As the holidays approach, I want to challenge myself to be mndful of choices. I only have one body...the food i choose to consume should be healthy for it..not junk!

Thanksgiving..what are you plans/resolutions this year? What are your holiday food triggers...let's start discussing them before they are here!
