I think you are right. I need to be positive and focus on where I am headed. I can't be dragging myself down. Good comment!

I agree with the person that suggested you drink water if you wake up. You might be thirsty instead of hungry.

If you're truly physically hungry and feel so ravenous that you can't go back to sleep, you could eat a slice of whole wheat toast or a couple of crackers or something small to stave off the hunger. (I don't like to eat after I've brushed my teeth because I feel I have to brush them again before going back to sleep or I'll get cavities.) I think carbs cause sleepiness more than protein - I think protein wakes people up - so that's why I suggested the toast & crackers. I no expert, though! You'd have to add what you ate to your nutrition tracker.

When you get a chance, you might want to set up your own Spark Page. That way other members can "friend" you, leave encouraging comments on your page, and send you a Spark Goodie now and then. It's a good way to connect with others.

Good luck! emoticon

PS - in response to the suggestion that you change your Spark name, you could just call yourself RIGHTONGIRL!

This may be a little off topic, but may I respectfully suggest that you change your name. It is not good for your self-esteem and thus your efforts to have 'fat girl' as part of your online name. Your weight does not define you. Focusing on thinking of yourself as a fat girl is not helpful. They say that we are products of out thoughts and how we see ourselves. I hope this comes across in the right way, it is meant to be a kind and helpful comment, not a criticism.

I learned in school that if you eat something, that it does help you to fall sleep..The blood is in your head when you can't sleep but when you eat something it rushes to the tummy to digest food..It takes a lot of energy to digest food ..Then,at that moment you can fall asleep. (make sure you relax )..Anything will work --, so make it something that won't mess with your morning cals, like some fiber..So have one serving of benefiber and one serving of emergen-c , its about 36 cal and will fill you up and you can sleep...

Sleep is very very important. You can't cheat on it.

If you wake up to habitually eat pop a lifesaver or a piece of sugar free gum in your mouth and read a book? that would work for me

And welcome aboard!

Waking up in the middle of the night is tough. Are you eating out of habit, do you believe that it will help you to get back to sleep, or are you honestly hungry? Research shows that carbs do help release serotonin, which helps people relax, so something like a small potato (with the skin) would help with that. If it's habit or needing help getting back to sleep, meditation can do wonders. A guided meditation would really be nice, or listening to the most relaxing music you can think of. Good luck!

Getting on a sleep schedule has helped me with the emotional eating.
Also, doing an emotional check in before wanting to eat and over eat.
The main question I will ask myself: am I hungry or just thirsty.
First thought is to reach for water or other low calorie beverage.
It usually is that it was thirst gone unrecognized.

Ok, I am new to all of this. But, very happy to find this page. After reading all of your posts, I will attempt night #1 tonight. I can't remember a night when I didn't wake up. The question is what should I do in place of eating at that time?
