Actually Oprah is a brilliant role model for us all. Here is a woman who has achieved the unimaginable in her life. She has amassed an amazing fortune and used it to help millions of people in many different ways.
An interview she did a few years ago is often quoted to demonstrate the importance of inspiration. It was at one of the times when she was struggling with her weight again.
The interviewer asked how she had managed to come from where she came from to be where she was. And she talked about how she was inspired to help others and how her show and her charities were her way of doing that. And how hard she worked at it because it inspired her and that the money came in as a result.
Then he asked her about her struggle with weight and what was her motivation there. She replied. 'Cause I dont want to have a big butt.
The problem with that kind of motivation is that once you get there the motivation disapears. As soon as she didn't have a big butt then her motivation to control her eating and to exercise disappeared and the typical creaping on of kilos began all over again. Till she saw herself in a magazine or something and realised that she had a big butt again. Then back on the tread mill. Sound familiar?
So getting to your target weight can not be your motivation. Or at least it can be a mile post but it can't be the finish line. If it is then you are virtually guaranteed that in a year or so you will be back here repeating the same old cycle again.
So what does that mean? No finish line or at least not one that you will ever reach. Oprah didnt decide to make x amount of money or to help x amount of people. She dedicated her life to helping as many as she can in various ways.
What's the purpose of your life? And how can you, (unlike Oprah did in the past) link in the importance of being fit, and healthy and in your ideal weight range to that?
Big questions I know but what if there is something really important that only you can do and you eat yourself out of existence before you have a chance to do it?
It's your life. Live it. Love it!
