I gained alot of weight when I was my mother's caregiver. She died from breast cancer ten years ago.

I ballooned up to 310 pounds. Not only was I mourning the death of my mother...but I was exhausted...mentally drained and a emotional wreck.

That was 1997...by 1999 I had managed to lose on and off 50 pounds. It sure helped. By 2001 I was back at square one and decided to really push myself.

Let me tell you....FAMILY support ! boy does that help. Also for me was having friends that were non judgemental and have been there for me through thick and thin.

Find your rock...

Sharon, boy u definitely have ur plate full!! no wonder u battle depression. and yes, i live in texas, on the gulf coast, think lots of mexican food and lots of fried sea food!!! emoticon both my favorite!
just wondering, is there no one that can help u out with the care of ur husband and father? a friend or family member that can give u time to get out of the house and have some time to pamper u (even if pampering entails just taking a walk for 30 minutes to clear ur mind and recharge)? it sure sounds like u need some "me" time. Maybe, if u have a church family, expressing to them the need for a break would get u a little bit of help. There is nothing wrong with asking for it! we all try to be super women and forget that to keep up our super powers we need to pamper and take care of ourselves some time.
and don't worry about learning the computer, it will come to u. my mom fights with her silly 'puter all the time, but she can find her way around SP easily!

PS: if u look at the bottom of ur profile, it says something about a sparks page. if u set one up then we can email u! u don't have to put pictures or anything like that on it if u don't want to. I think it just makes it easier to communicate with ur SP brother and sisters! emoticon

no it is not easy. tonight i am also struggling with wanting to eat, but i know why. i am bored and lonely tonight. bf is on the road working. it is raining and cold and likely to have bad thunderstorms tonight. just the perfect night to cuddle up with bf and he is not here. so i am going to post everywhere i can- encourage others and myself- have already journaled about why i want to binge and i am going to crochet like crazy if this has not passed when all the posts are done. and drink lots of fluids tonight too. which will keep me running to the bathroon- more exercise!!. so if anyone is out there who needs to talk- spark mail me and keep me out of the kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! andra

I love your picture with the big smile. I smile at people all the time just to see if they will smile back. It makes me feel good when they smile back.

I battle depression and I am the caregiver of my husband. He is on kidney dialysis and in very poor health. My Mother passed away 03/14/06 and my Dad has had two major surgeries with his health going down hill, I have to take care of my Dad too. He lives down the street from me. This has been a very hard year for me.

I was a fat little girl and I have always had a battle with weight. I live in South Carolina where food is fried a lot. I am trying to read and find the best way to change my way of planning and cooking.

I'm learning how to operate this computer. I'm not very good yet, it takes me forever to find what I'm looking for. Thanks for the encouragement, Sharon

mzcoffey, good job so far!! like myra said, make ur starting goals small. if u haven't been exercising, start smaller. make ur goal to walk 15 minutes. u will find that at a 15 minute goal, when u get to 12 minutes u will look a that time and decide that u can stand 3 more minutes to meet ur goal. then, like myra said u will feel empowered!! the joy u will feel at ur accomplishment will spur u on to do the same the next day and the next. then the next week, up that time by 5 minutes, the next week 5 more minutes. baby steps will keep u on track and not let u burn out and get discouraged.

This has made my day. To get on line and find all of the positive encouragement. I had a hard first day. I am addicted to Coke-a-cola. I had 1 cup of coke. I was drinking them all day so this was a good day for me. I have had a headache all day and no energy. My plan was to walk for 30 minutes, I walked for 12. I day at a time - writing down what I eat is a big help. Having things planned is the best, I'm praying I keep this going.

break it down.

make your first goal=== 5 pounds...
it is more managable and when that goal is met...it becomes UPLIFTING!

One day at a time...
make conscious choices...ONE DAY AT A TIME....

remove, remove! all unhealthy foods from your home...
plan your meals....COOK your meals....portion size them....eat on a small plate...
buy a good water filter and drink water...


it took me about 16 months to lose 107 pounds....from July 2001 to November of 2002...

I maintained that weightloss up until last year...an emotional relationship breakup...was one of the reasons I LOST my FOCUS....and I turned to food and over ate.
I gained 35 pounds....
It has taken me months to find my FOCUS....
This NEW YEAR feels good....
I am FOCUSED !

DID not GAIN during the HOLIDAYS ! whew !

My first goal is to lose 5 pounds and to exercise 2 times this week

next week, my goal is to exercise 3 days.


Break it down....the goals are more attainable and less likely to stress you out....

Everytime you reach that small goal...it EMPOWERS you ! You grow stronger ! your mind races with joy that you are accomplishing your goals !

Journal ! and log in what you eat !

THIS IS the MAIN thing that helped me FOCUS and lose those 107 pounds....every single day log in what you eat....even the the piece of gum ! sounds silly....BUT you will realize how we tend to eat mindlessly at times and this form of habittrains your mind to choose the right foods ! IT WORKS !

you can do it

write your goals....post them, where you can see them...
press on ~ !!!

Every day is a conscious choice to stay on plan and choose the foods that will help you to lose weight.

we're here !

stick with us and lets watch those weight tickers go down, down, down, down !

mzcoffey, u've come to the right place. u will find lots and lots of friends here. some of us, like me, ultimately want to lose 100 lbs, others have already lost that much, and others don't need to lose quite so much to reach their goals. but regarless of how much we each need to lose, we all have a common bond, food is a drug to us that we r trying to quit. we are all trying, as one person put it, to eat to live, not live to eat! so welcome friend! lean on us, as we will lean on u! emoticon

Hang out with us sweetie. We all can encourage you and give you support, all you have to do is reach out like you are now.

I have been having trouble lately myself. I have been batteling depression and trying to get medication regulated so it has been hard for me. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out.

Mz. Coffey-Welcome to our group! It took me a long time to accept that I was going to have to watch what I ate the rest of my life and at first that thought left me feeling kind of depressed. But over the last few months I realized that God wants me to honor Him with my body, and that includes with the types of foods I am eating. Welcome mzcoffey! I think most of us know how to lose the weight, but it's very difficult when we eat to comfort ourselves.I just try to take 1 day at a time. Good luck!

Mz coffey- i am glad you are here. Someone said awhile back that we should view this as not losing something as weight, but that we are gaining a heathier life,etc . That this mentality creates a positive mental picture. I have tried to adapt this concept into my thinking. It has taken some time, but it is starting to get in my head!

you are definately not alone. all of us here have similar problems. take it slow- baby steps. dont make too many changes all at once. this will burn you out. read the articles sp sends you. journal- journal journal either handwritten or on the computer. get in touch with the emotions. find strategies to fight back. keep your hands and mind busy with whatever you can. believe it or not i am putting together a family cookbook- all the fantastic recipes from my childhood and then trying to lighten them up so they are more healthy. and no- it does not make me want to eat- just the opposite. my dad is my taste tester. i also work full time- take care of 1 dog 1 cat crochet like crazy and watch the food network all the time. sounds crazy i know, but i am so busy writing down ideas and it keeps my mind off feeding myself. weird huh? if you need anything just holler. find yourself a diet buddy you can relate to and burn up the keyboards when you are in the mood to binge. that helps so much. i have someone i can write to any time of the day or night and she responds back quick. in fact i just adopted her as my sister- hi anne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MzCoffee just take it one day a time. Read the sp articles they are very helpful. The real trick to try to keep your emotions in check. I have prayed and asked the Lord to help me over come emotional eating. Faith without work is dead so I try to exercise everyday and keep a watch on what I put in my mouth. Try not to get ahead of yourself, compare yourself to others. Keep posting it really helps.

I get bored and I eat, I get happy I eat, I get sad I eat and if the weather changes I eat. So basicly, I eat all the time. I try not to and when I do I will stop eating all together and I get tired. So my biggest problem is trying to fiqure out if I am hungry and not to get discourage about my weight coming off.

This is great that you sent me a post so fast. I feel so along with this weight. I am learning how to get around this board and it's taking a a little time. I'm kinda new with the computer. This is difficult for me, I have always had a weight problem. I have lost hundreds of pounds over my 55 years. I know what to do - I just will not apply the healty lifestyle. I deal with emotional eating and live with high stress daily problems. I'm praying for a friend who understands and will give me encouragement. I need to lose 100 pounds.
