Just do whatever works for you.

Remember the slogan "this is the first day of the rest of your life?"
Actually it would be wiser to live each day as if it were the last day of your life.

Wow, you guys all gave such great advice! I have tried the 10% goal, and i just wasnt succesful. I may do the 5 pound goal unitl I get to my half way mark, and then step up to 10% goals.....I would like to think of some kind of a reward, other than food, as I dont think food is a good reward for me, im overweight from my choices with food, so it makes more sense to pick something else. I may pick something little like a new, inexpensive book. or something like that. I think I might also set a large goal for the 1/4 1/2 3/4 and goal marks.

Thanks for all your advice!! Although I started at the beginning of the year, I am struggling with finding what really works for me, so thanks for the ideas!

I'm a fan of small attainable goals...my problem is that I never follow through with the reward, so then it loses its value and motivation. So my only recommendation would be this: do what works for you and do what you will stick with. Stay true to you.

I like to make small goals that aren't related to the number on the scale. I especially like to challenge myself with fitness minutes, because I LOVE to see that number go UP. I find that really motivating, because the more active I am, the more healthy my body will be.

as Jak said, everyone is different. Trust me I have sought answers to many questions high and low from people, books, the internet. I keep searching and searching when really all I needed to do was ask myself. No one can tell you whats best for you. I think we, well I have a deep seeded need for someone to tell me the answer because I feel I cannot do it myself.

So spread your wings and figure it out for yourself :) experiment till you find whats works for YOU!!! I could give you my advice and it might work for a while but usually we evolve and change as people so our goals need to change as well. Its a personal thing. I don't know if this was helpful or not, but its what I believe.

Don't be afraid to fail, some of the greatest people in history failed there way to success. One of my favorite stories is about Thomas Edison

The story goes that "Thomas Edison failed more than 1,000 times when trying to create the light bulb". (The story is often told as 5,000 or 10,000 times depending on the version.) When asked about it,

Edison allegedly said, "I have not failed 1,000 times. I have successfully discovered 1,000 ways to NOT make a light bulb."

PS: I find that so AWESOME "I succesfully discovered 1000 ways NOT to make a light bulb" thats a real gem right there :)

Good luck, you can do it, there is no right and wrong way simply the way that works for you

Small attainable goals have been working very well for me, but everyone is different. Setting a bigger goal might be very doable for you.

Hello. I am wondering, do you all think it works better to set very small attainable goals, around 5-10 pounds each time,. or do you feel its more acceptable to set something like a 10% loss goal?
