JennyB, I think you're right to enjoy every bite! If you know what you're eating and why, you're on the right track. (Maybe I think this because I ate cake Sunday for my great-uncle's 98th birthday party and enjoyed each and every bit!) And I lost 2 pounds on my first week!
I have to brag today too. I am SO proud of myself. I've been following an eating plan, reading SparkPeople a lot, and exercising a lot too since July 16th. Since the first of the month is the day I weigh and measure, I did that yesterday. I have lost 5 lbs. and 8 inches in two weeks. At the age of 63, I did not believe I would see such good results so soon. More important, the cravings at night are much less intense. Most nights I don't even think about it, and don't eat after dinner.
I agree that we sometimes focus too much on the negative. Maybe because it's a negative problem that we are working on. But it's the little triumphs that we must look at. After all it's the tiny moments that create the big picture...Right?
Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally.
Congratulations on not letting negative thoughts enter your mind--that's great! I know alot of times I beat myself up over something that is "bad" and end up giving up on myself. Negative thoughts lead to negative actions. That is such a wonderful point that you made--and many of us don't even think about how negativity can effect us!

We spend a good deal of time worrying about the negativity so I just had to brag tonight.
I started this "diet" Monday morning and I just haven't exercised yet. Tonight I went to yoga, which I love, and did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I used to walk all the time and I just got out of the habit.
I ate a good size piece of birthday cake at yoga too (our instructor's b.day) but I enjoyed every bite and refuse to worry that it put me over my calories for the day.
How did you all get the icon on the bottom that shows your weight loss progress?
