My kids have slammed there fingers in the door of the car. I would take her to the doctors, but most likely it isn't broke. I can't remeber exactly what they said now. I think it is more difficult to break fingers at that age from what they told me. But I would still get it checked. It still hurts though.

I fractured my index finger years ago. I didn't know there was anything wrong. (there had been a dog fight here where one almost got killed.) It happened while splitting them up. I was running back and forth to the vets . When a vet was examining on of the dogs on the table I hit, or moved my finger. It hurt. It was low near the knuckle. It was very swollen but the lower half only. The vet said I should get it xrayed. the pain had kicked in by then. That night my husband brought me to e.r. The tech said she saw nothing but I would have to wait till a radiologist came in. I SAW the line duh. Yes I had a hairline fracture. Because it was so low on my finger they put a cast on it. Unreal. But it really hurt if it was moved. I slept for a little off/on until I moved it........all night.
3 weeks later when they removed everything my palm and top of my hand was still bruised.
Either way your little one will be okay. I think I was a big baby lol. I had never broken anything before that.
Give her a kiss for me.
Do you know how many needless x-rays our son has had lol, better safe then sorry!!! and he is 17.
hugs,
Robin

Me? I'd get her in to see her Dr. You never know with toddlers. They can't tell you.

But you might ice it.

Two general rules of thumb that I've always followed: If you can bend it, it isn't broken. If you can't sleep through the pain, it's time to go to the hospital. But with a two-year-old I think I'd call the pediatrician. Does your health insurance have a phone number you can call? If so, I'd call it. The swelling is bothersome. Did you ice it?

Poor thing! My Mum (a nurse) says that the only way you can tell if it's fractured is with an x-ray. She suggests taking her to the doctor in the morning. Let us know what happens whether or not you take her. Thank goodness for Rudolph!

Tape it to the middle finger. If you are insured, take her to the doctor. If not, call Ask A Nurse.

Bless her heart! Yours too. Being a mom is the hardest job on earth.

I would take them to the hospital if I thought it was broken. Definitely take her to the doctor in the morning if you don't go now.

How do you know if a finger is broken on a 2 year old? Her sister slammed it in a door & instantly it had a purple streak on the skin & then it swelled to twice it's size? It's not out of line & she can bend the joint. How would I know if it's fractured? She's stopped screaming thanks to Tylenol, icing it, & Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer coming on tv. Should I take her to her pediatrician for x-rays in the morning? Should I tape it to her middle finger beside it to splint it? Anyone ever have this happen to someone who can't talk much yet? We have a major communication problem--she's just quietly crying tears & watching her show. What would you do?
