Hello Everyone:
So nice to have new people join us, and marvelous to see familiar faces too. All of you encourage me, it makes me realize that I am not alone in this struggle. I have been reading your messages;but haven't been replying for two reasons.

(1) I feel I have let you down - I started this thread Nov. 2009, two years ago and I still haven't overcome eating during the night. I feel like I should have been a better example to you.
Having said that, "I will never give up trying." I will conqueror this or die trying.

(2) I am working and just don't have the time to answer each person individually.

I hear what each of you are saying, because in listening to you, I see myself, over and over again.
Many people have come to this thread and it has helped them overcome the Night Eating Syndrome, and I firmly believe that we will too.

Let's start again tonight ladies and see if we can have ONE good night and post this icon tomorrow: emoticon - Don't think about the nights to come, for now all you have to be concerned with is TONIGHT. If you are late reading this, then let tomorrow night be your ONE night to not mess up.

How many are with me?

BIG hugs to all,
Auntbee

It has been seven days since my last Night Time Binge Eating (NTBE). It was an upsetting slip because I had been doing well (no NTBE for 60 days). The expression "one bite from insanity" really rings true and is very humbling. I journaled about the incident (mistakes made and lessons learned) and I am moving forward. This is a battle I must win as NTBE robs me of my joy and leads to self loathing. Moving on to day eight!

Lord, what you are commanding me today is not too difficult for me or beyond my reach.

Hi OSEGUEDA,

Welcome back! I am new to this thread since you were here. Not new to night eating though.

Yay you for declaring enough!!!! What is your plan to move forward with healthier choices?

I have been sick the past month and not been to the gym. So, my plan is to slowly move towards going to the gym 5 days a week again. Also, I want to resume eating 3 meals a day and one snack. If I do more, whoo hoo. This is the basic core of my goals for now.

Solid resolve to us all! Solid choices! Right thinking! We can do this!

Each day we begin again.

Glad I found this thread...as night time, binge, mindless eating is a problem. I sleep so much better when I stay food sober. The last two nights have been good, so I'm looking forward to building on that. I'm a widow of three years and the house gets too quiet at night. My activities and grandchildren keep me occupied during the day. Sometimes I eat because I'm tired and didn't plan properly, so I grab something easy and fast, something "comforting". I leave the house at 1:30 and return at 6:30 on school days. My roast is done, I've planned my cauliflower dish, and chicken breast are roasted for the week's salads. Nothing "bad" is in the house...now to keep it that way!

Good Morning! Happy Halloween or Happy Samhain, depending upon your belief system! emoticon

Bre, I feel for you with the night eating. I hated it when I did it. The cycle of self loathing every morning and the promises made to not do it again. Loving yourself and being kind to yourself is important.

DIAHANBC, menopause was the death to life as I knew it and I gained 50 pounds in one year and am still struggling to lose it. I was always slim til menopause and am 5'3 so know what you mean about every pound counting. No, you do NOT have to accept this weight. It is important to figure out how you need to eat now as your body changes. I found I needed more protein and this has helped me. I know what you mean about people not taking a 10# concern seriously. Maybe a menopause support group might be more helpful for you. Yay you for doing something about it now though!

Each day we begin again.

emoticon DIAHANBC! We ALL have different stories but we focus on our similarities. Emotional eating, overeating, or eating out of boredom is a major problem for US. For ME, this is a day by day process. I have those days where I make it through the day on track and then when night come around, I blow it. I walk and eat all night. Then there's those days that it switches. I'm over calories and I sleep the whole night through. What I'm hoping for is, finding the balance. Until then, I choose to handle myself with love and care. I will NOT beat ME down any further. I AM human, therefore, I WILL make mistakes. LOVE changes things! emoticon LETS emoticon

I walked and ate granola bars all night and I don't remember how many because I was half asleep. Today WILL be a better day! I/ emoticon

Thank you NESARIAN for your warm reception. Yes, I can see that others have the same issue. But I am desperate to change this quickly before it gets too much out of control. I will check into other professional groups, but they may not take me seriously as I am not a big girl. But I am 48 years old with 10 stubborn pounds that won't leave me. I am 5'1' and every pound lost or gained is dramatic on a little woman like myself. Here is the thing. I lost my job, my father, my best friend, and I can't change my mother's behavior. On top of everything I can't seem to control my body either. It is a horrible feeling to be out of control (or feel like you are). I should be able to control what I do with my fitness and eating but my aging and hormonal body betrays me every time. Can you tell I am frustrated??? I am starting to believe that I will not have any control over my body and will have to accept being overweight. I hope it is not the case. :(

Bre, emoticon Thank you so much. You are right, of course!

Auntbee, SO good to have you back!

Hi DIAHANBC! Welcome! As you can see, we are all in the same boat here so you are in good company. We all struggle and have our challenges. If you scroll down and read through the past posts, you will be able to read what others do.
I am glad to hear you are in therapy with so much going on. One idea is to contact your local hospital and see if they have any eating disorder groups. A friend runs them at a local hospital here and says people find them helpful. I think it is a matter of learning how to manage emotions and stress and coping skills. That said, I still work on it also. I am convinced coping skills has a lot to do with our EE.
Anyway, welcome! I look forward to traveling this journey with you!

Each day we begin again.

Hello. I am new to this spark team message thread. I joined because I am desperate for some help. I believe I am a food addict but night time eating/emotional eating is probably more accurate. I lost my job this year and it is my fourth go around with no permanent teaching position (within a six year period). My father passed away last summer and I have a very poor relationship with my mother. I am in a very bad place (emotionally). While I am working on other issues in my life, my eating and fitness are getting out of control. Like so many others, I am super disciplined during the day but I fall apart at night. I believe my daily medication (various for maintenance) may be responsible for some of my eating issues (food cravings). But I know that it isn't the real cause (or the only one). I see a therapist but I am a big ball of issues and she can't seem to help me with this one. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't been around. There has been a lot going on in my life and I haven't been doing so well with my eating. When there's stress it keeps me awake. When I am awake I become a ravenous bear. Thus I have put on pounds plus.

I had a good day today, which is normal for me, and I'm expecting a good night. I walked a long walk today, and did lots of work too. I must have burned a lot of calories emoticon

So sorry that you haven't been feeling well, NESARIAN. You'll get back on track, because that's the kind of person you are. I am rooting for you!

Nice to see you back here BRE....It's a struggle for all of us; but God, time and discipline will get us there! Rooting for you and everyone else in this thread.

Hope you all have a WONDERFUL evening!

Hugsssss Auntbee

I think raisin bran is far less a threat to your health than cookies! Seems as if you go for carbs. Is this right? I did and do also. I find if I do not eat enough protein that I end up craving carbs. Raisin bran has fiber though so the fiber helps to block the carbs. Cool thing about fiber is you look at the table of contents and see the carb total. Then, find the fiber total. Now, you get to subtract the fiber from the carb total! The higher the fiber content the better.!!!
I think if you need that something at night, a fiber cereal is a great choice. Yay you!

I didn't think to get a recipe from SP. They were oatmeal and raisins with chocolate chips. SP probably has a healthier version too. Thanks for the suggestion. emoticon

Last night was good. I kept it under 200 calories. I made some homemade cookies the other day telling myself they were for the kids and hubby. I know it was a set up. So I ended the last cookie last night around 3am. Hopefully tonight I can sleep through the night without any interruptions. emoticon

How's it going all? It is rainy here and I just want to curl up and read. What? I HAVE to get out and exercise? grumble grumble, where is my get up and go? Never mind. I'll just do it and think about it later!
Have a sweet day all!

Sheriann, night is the worst for most people. The day is over, we think we have earned a reward or we are not being busy so emotions flood us. We all have to find our awareness about what prompts us to eat, what else we could do instead ( knit, crochet, play cards, foot massages, etc). The use of distraction is great but only after we have done the work of figuring out why we are eating in the first place. It does not have to be heavy emotions. It can just be a bad habit. All bad habits can be replaced by good habits. One of the reason I enjoy this thread is to read how others deal with this challenge.
So, why are you eating at night?
What can you do instead? I promise you can live through the process of developing new habits!

Hugs to you.

Each day we begin again.

One step in the right direction, one REALLY Bad night, followed by a really good day. My new job assignment is doing a number on my stress, energy and motivation level. Last night was good, and I didn't eat. Woke up to a great reward of a blood sugar of 70! Cant beat that!

Wow- I'm not about negative posts so I'm going to make this part of short but BOY DID I MESS UP LAST NIGHT!!!!! What in the world was I thinking!!?!?!? My downfall is always at night.

Okay- on a positive note- I've asked everyone on the home to keep me accountable in the evenings. I do SO well during the day and sabotage myself AT NIGHT......STOP THE INSANITY! lol

I have control over this and NEED to make better choices. Stop and think about what I'm doing before DOING it. emoticon emoticon

Hi FLYING PIGS,

I was thinking of you this morning. A binge buddy is an awesome idea. Glad you have a working plan. Please do keep checking in and sharing your journey. You never know when what you say will be a light for someone else.

Hugs to you and your binge buddy!

I am so glad to be back! I have been away for a few days and really need to check in. Welcome to new members and take heart. This is a tough battle we are fighting. I found a binge buddy who I have been keeping in contact with. We text or call, depending on the hour, and just knowing there is someone there who can kick my butt if I need it or calm me down and remind me not to eat at night is a huge help.

God is in control

hi All, Just checking in. Since I have been sick, my eating is all off. Exercise is out the window too. I just want to feel better and be over this already. emoticon
Being sick is no excuse to not eat right though. I do well at lunch and dinner but breakfast is not happening. Oh well, This Too Shall Pass. Nothing stays the same forever. I hope you all are doing well. stop by and say hi!

Each day we begin again.
