emoticon ladies! emoticon job!

I made it through my second night without eating. emoticon emoticon for me. emoticon

I understand eating more than enough at night. Trying to FILL UP so you don't have to GET UP. I've proved myself wrong last night because I didn't eat anything after 8:00 pm. That's another VICTORY for me. I did however go up 3 pounds on the scale this morning. I don't know what that's about but I KNOW I have been making some good choices and changes so I'm NOT tripping. It could be muscle because I've started strength training again last week. I had stopped but decided I wanted to do ALL that I could do to help me on this journey. Anyway, all will be well.

Have A Happy Thanksgiving! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

YES!!!! I did it!! Four night straight without getting up in the night to eat. I'm finding that each night is easier. The first night, I wasn't hungry; but, my mind was saying, "I just have to have food." That didn't surprise me because I have had this addiction for years and so does several of my siblings, and my mother and father. I have tried many, many times to give it up; but the most I would do without would be two nights in a row; then it would be back to the dirty habit again. I was actually sick the first night and suffered withdrawal and I wondered if I would survive without eating. That is how addicted I was. I saw every hour on the clock until four o'clock in the morning. The second night was hard but not nearly as hard as the first. The next night I was again awake all night; but I was able to resist the temptation. Last night, I had a bad night in terms of not sleeping,(my mind just wouldn't relax),and I would like to have had a snack; but, going to get food wasn't even an option last night.
I still have to work on another problem though. I find i'm eating too much before bedtime because I have this fear that I might get hungry during the night. I'm still within my calorie, carb allowance; but, I've been trying to stick to the lower end of the scale rather than the higher.
Oh well, as you said Sabrina, "One day at a time". We need to look at all the good we did do and not the bad. Work out one thing at a time. Happy ThnaksGiving to all you lovely Americans!

I can't believe I made it to Day 2.. Yes, I filled my tummy with water last night. Another plus was that last night I got about 8 hours of sleep which I haven't gotten in months.

Here is another suggestion and may be extra motivation for us. Why don't we post the emotion with day 1 on it, every time we do so many nights in a row. I'll make the next post to show you what I mean, okay?

Day: 1

Thankfully I made it through last night without a snack.. I kept telling myself that I am not going to eat anything and then when I was done with my work, I went right to bed. I did have that inner voice screaming for food, but by GOD's grace I was able to overcome it yesterday.

I hope to be able to do the same today as well. One day at a time..

Thanks for your support again guys.. together we can do it !!

I made it through another night last night without eating, and I must say it is getting easier. Still wasn't a good night and I was awake a nice bit; but, it was sooo much easier than the first two nights. How did you do everyone?

Hey Ms. Sabrina (Bre), first of I am so sorry to hear that your precious child was sick. That must have been very scary when she had a high temperature like that. Secondly, I am proud of you...You did 6 nights in a row...COOOOL! So you made one mistake; but, look at all the good you did. Just consider it a well earned treat night and do like you said you were going to do:
"Today is a NEW day and I will move forward in my journey to better health and weight. I will continue to make good choices and stay within my calorie range. That means NOT eating after I go to bed at night! I CAN DO IT!!!"

You SURE can do it, and you WILL do it. Seeing the determination in you has put me back on track, that is why I started in the first place.I'll give you another reason, a fun reason to get back on track, you have to catch up with me and pass me..LOL..I have 2 nights ahead of you....

Here is what I would like us all to do:
1.Let's pretend we are a runners group and we are running away from Night Time eating
2. Let's all start, (if you haven't already), and let tonight be the first night of not eating. If you have already started, then let us know what day you are on. For me, I have gotten through 2 nights and will be working on my third tonight.
3.Let's make our posts here under this thread. Let's be very honest with ourselves and others and tell it just as it is. If we had a night of failure, then so be it. Tomorrow is a new day and we'll start all over again. We didn't go into this overnight and we probably won't come out overnight; but, (LISTEN TO ME), WE WILL DO it.
I found the first night was horrible. I wasn't hungry, but it was like my body was screaming out for food. And I honestly didn't know if I would make it through the night. My stomach was killing me, like I said, not hungry pains; but, I guess it was like anyone addicted to drugs or whatever, I felt like I just had to have FOOD. Last night that bad stomach was gone and I found it just a little bit easier to say no.I was awake all night again; but, I was able to occupy myself and block food out of my mind. I knew if I gave in and ate, I would disppoint my buddy on here, "Sabrina", and I knew I would be feeling guilty all over again, and miserable.
So if you are reading this thread and you have the same weakness as we do for Night Time Eating, join in and help support us and we'll be there for you too. Think of it as a new day and another chance for you to get back on track and start feeling better about yourself. I'm a firm believer in prayer. I know it works because I have had so many answered. I will be praying for each one of you. Knowing that God is on our side and helping us, makes it another plus..a BIG plus. Can't wait to hear from you all again.
Hugs Auntbee

Well my streak has been broken. When I got back from Walmart around 8:15 last night, my daughter was hot so I took temp and it was 102. I paged the Doctor and she told me to bring her, in the morning. I gave her some tylenol and an hour later she felt hotter so I checked her temp again and it was 103.9. Immediately panic set in so I called my cousin and she told me to give her a cold bath. She cried while I did it but a hour later her temp was down to 100.5.

I didn't get my snack in until (late)10:30 pm. After that I went to sleep. My baby woke me up to show me something on tv. I felt her, she wasn't hot so I went back to sleep. She was in the bed with me all night so I could keep an eye on her. Somewhere after 12:00 am I got up and headed straight for the kitchen. I grabbed some baked lays and granola clusters. I layed back down and ate more than my share. I'm not even tripping about either because I wont beat myself up over it. Today is a NEW day and I will move forward in my journey to better health and weight. I will continue to make good choices and stay within my calorie range. That means NOT eating after I go to bed at night! I CAN DO IT!!!

Thanks for the support Auntbee. I think I am going to be tossing and turning tonight in the bed :) I work with the computer all day and hence I don't do very well the next day if I don't get enough sleep. But I hope to tame this animal some day and get out of this addiction and get some peaceful sleep soon. I'll let you know how I did tonight.

Night time is when things slow down and our mind takes off. Often people want to distract using food. Most use junk food.

This is a major stumbling block to success for many reasons.

It's good to get this managed quickly. Some helpful things to do instead:

Dance or exercise
Knit or crochet
Write it instead of biting it
Put a lock on your kitchen door-yes people do this.
Take a hot shower or bath. Bubble baths are great
Go to bed early
Talk with friends
Come to SparkPeople and ask for support or give it.

Stop talking and do! Stop complaining and act! Stop blaming and start owning your life.

Hello FITITGIRL,
Thank you fo coming forward and admitting that you are struggling with night time eating too. That is the first step of you being able to take control of your situation. I too would hide the food. I would wait until I could hear hubby's breathing and know that he was asleep, then the eating would begin.I would like to invite you to join us here and together we'll support each other through this dirty habit (If I may call it that). You said you were going to take it one day at a time and that's a GREAT plan to start with. This is my second night not eating during the night. Last night was VERY hard; but, not quite as hard as the first night. I went to bed and tossed and turned, and tossed and turned and tried so hard to block out every thought of food. No, I wasn't hungry because I had a good lunch before I went to bed. It was just my body crying out for FOOD,FOOD, FOOD because of my addiction, (obsession) to it. Anyways, I thought i'm not staying here; so, I got up and peeled and cut up a couple bowls of veggies for my pot of soup that I was going to make the next day. I then went on the computer for a while....Still not eating, I went back to bed around 1AM; but sleep still didn't come. I saw every hour on the clock until after 4AM, then I slept for about three hours. But you know what, despite the bad night I feel so much better this morning. Cover your ears, because what I am going to say is going to be extra loud..LOL.."YOU DID IT AGAIN AUNTBEE, 2 NIGHTS IN A ROW."
I am down on the scales this morning lower than i've been since I started Sparkpeople. I have struggled with this Night Time eating for years and now i'm determined to kick the habit, even if I have to kick myself to do so..LOL...I'm here for you and so are others. Have a GREAT day!
Hugs Auntbee

I don't wake up from bed to eat after I sleep.. but I eat lots of junk in the bed before I sleep.. I have dinner in the night and then this craving begins and my mind is full of food.. I used to hide and eat previously, but now I openly began eating in front of my dh.. he laughs at me at times.. he encourages me to sleep soon so that I don't fall into the craving.. But the past few days, I could not overcome that temptation and I yielded to it.. So I have been struggling with this night time eating also.. and these past weeks it has become more imminent... and I have been grazing every single day... But the best thing about eating infront of my dh is that I don't graze mindlessly, I stop somewhere.. If I'd hide and eat, I'd really do worse.. (But anyways, this is no excuse for night time eating).. I just need that dessert or snack in the night before I go to bed... May be I should try something to see if I can overcome it tonight.. I am planning to take one day at a time..

Good morning Sabrina,
You have moved me to tears this morning, with your caring and support. I know it's something that only I can take control of; and I WILL; but it is so difficult. You are making it so much easier for me. I'm so proud of you and excited that you went yet another night. Take care my friend. I'm off to church! It's a GREAT comfort to know that God is on my side too.

emoticon AUNTBEE06 for your struggle. I do understand because I don't sleep well myself. I wake up at least 2 or 3 times during the night. I try not to think about food and it's working because every time the thought come, I block it out. Before I eat my snack at 9:00 pm I'm telling myself,"Self you will eat no more after this." I have to be firm with SELF and don't allow NO room for excuses because this habit WONT break itself. I want even have a peppermint because I don't want to give my stomach any ammunition to work against me. Anyway today is a NEW day so give it another shot tonight. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Day 5-got through another night without eating!

Thanks Momma for your comment. I wish that would work for me. I guess a big part of my problem is not sleeping.I'm a person that don't need very much sleep to start with. Give me three hours, that is wonderful, I can easily survive on that. Four hours is fantastic. Someone would say, get up and read or watch tv; but I hate tv and my eyes won't open enough to read..LOL..I have tried going on the computer but that doesn't work either. My problem is not eating too much before I go to bed; but getting up and snacking all night long. I had a stressful night at work last night and couldn't sleep because of it. And I'm sad (VERY sad) to report that I ate last night BIG time. I'm ashamed to tell you what I put in me last night but here goes: Before I went to bed I had a nice bowl of peaches and I was going to stop there. I took a small glass of tomato juice to bed, planning on sipping on it when I got the urge to go eat. I was in bed thinking, thinking about work and couldn't sleep so I went out to the fridge and decided I would have just a tiny piece of cold chicken. Well, when I ate that, I was like a starving wolf..I ate more chicken, had a dessert dish filled with leftover stuffing. Then I started in on the crackers, I had seven or eight Breton crackers with butter and fat free cheese and a glass of milk and took it back to bed with me. For some reason, it tastes so much better in bed. After a while I was up again and had another kind of cracker, bigger ones, I ate four of those and a small sugar free rice pudding. The next time I got up, I went down to my deep freeze and got four cookies and brought them and a glass of milk back to bed. I wasn't hungry and I was full, so full in fact that I only ate two of the cookie. Now don't tell me that I don't have an addiction. I need help BIG time. I am feeling low this morning; but, i'm not going to quit. This is a new day and I'll begin again. For those of you who believe in prayer would you please pray for me. I know there are probably many of you out there having the same struggle as I am. I need your support and you need mine, right? I am very fortunate that i'm only up one pound this morning; but,if I hadn't pigged out, I would have probably been down a pound or two. See what I was talking about in my first post. I walk/jog so much, and then blow it all with my eating throughout the night.I'm beginning to think that I do need that set of handcuffs. Anyways that's my story. emoticon

I did the same thing the other night after a super stressful day -- instead of crunching -- the sleep did me more good than that crunch and the body loves it too!

Marty-that's exactly what I've been doing the past 4 nights, going straight to bed.

Hi Finita and welcome to Spark people, you will find lots of good support here. Well first of all, we sometimes think it's wrong to eat after a certain time in the evening. This isn't exactly true. If you do your Nutrition Tracker that Spark People has so generously provided for us, you will see just how many calories, carbs, fats and proteins you are allowed per day. If you find that your hungriest time, or the time you are bored and want to eat, is in the evening; then save some of your daily allowed food for that time. I read somewhere in Spark people and I knew it anyways that is doesn't matter what time you eat your daily allowance of food, what matters is that you stick to the suggested amount of calories, Carbs, etc.....My problem has been that I eat what I am allowed during the day and eat another meal or two when I should be sleeping. That is not good and as a result I put on pounds. I am not one of the group leaders here; but, if I can help you in any way, I would be very happy to do so.

Thanks Deb! I wouldn't recommend hand cuffs either.

emoticon Finita! emoticon What's working for me is, going to bed. When I stay up watching tv or whatever, I almost always, eat. I think it's best to go to bed at a decent hour so that you can have a fresh start the next day. Just a suggestion.

Great job, Bre!!!

Auntiebee, When I first started SP after a t ragic wake up call and a fall down the stairs from a diabetic blackout and i began my serious journey, My B/f and I were trying to come up with a plan to keep me from my night time eating. Just joking around he got out an old pair of handcuffs and of course he ahd the keys, too. (was part of an old haloween costume) Sure enough I couldn't eat or anything with them on but couldn't go potty either. It worked wonders but I don't recomment it. LOL

I made it through another night without eating! YippEE!
It goes to show that we can do anything we put our minds to.

AUNTBEE06-a glass of milk shouldn't hurt any. I think you did a emoticon job.

Trish-I would wake up with the taste of the food I've eaten during the night still in my mouth. On top of that, indigestion.

Here is a suggestion that was made to me by a weight loss group, and it did work for me for a while until temptation overruled. She told me to put an elastic band on my wrist, and when I wake up and want food just pull on it enough to lightly hurt my wrist. This would be a reminder that no I can't get up and eat.

Hi Trish,
You said "Sometimes I wake up so sick from a food hangover"....Wow can I ever relate to this. Even waking with that horrible feeling, I would still continue to stuff myself.I'm so proud of you for staying out of the kitchen. You'll make it, we'll do this together. yes, we may even slip up once in a while; but we WILL do it. I find taking a glass of water, juice or diet pop and putting it on my night stand is really helpful. When I wake up and want food I sip water. Of course I have to clear my kitchen of everything that would tempt me. Hubby teasing offered to put a lock on the fridge; maybe we should do this..LOL..Have a GREAT day!

Yes Debbie, i'm sure there are many others in the same situation as you,Sabrina & I. It is now 4:AM here and I am up because my body and mind has been crying out for food all night. No, i'm not hungry; but I feel I MUST have it. I did give in and have a glass of milk; but, I guess that isn't too bad. We'll do it...Just look at Sabrina, she's working on her fourth night. AWESOME in my opinion!

Debbie-I know what you mean, because I've done the same thing.

I'm going for 4 in a row. I CAN and WILL do it and so can you!!! I'll be back in the morning to check in. See you all then!

Have a eat-free night!

I am most positive I am not the only one raising my hand here.

Night time eating got me in big trouble. i remember the night I kicked an empty box of Sara Lee outta the kitchen for good. After consuming a whole cherry cheese cake.

I feel a great need to start this thread after being so inspired by Bre2003SBís post that she made yesterday to one of her friendís. When I read it, I couldnít believe my eyes, and I had to read it over and over again, because you see, what she had to say described me perfectly. If I didnít know the difference, I would have said that I wrote it. Before I go any further, let me let you read what she posted:

ďI've always had a snack at 9:00 pm, so that's not the problem. The problem is me getting up between 12:00-2:00 am, eating in my sleep. Most of the time when I'm eating, I'm laying down with it.

I don't count any of the calories I consume at night because I tell my self the next morning,"Today is a new day, start fresh." and it's okay sometimes but after a while in turns into excuses.

I know, the calories I consume at night, is holding me back from dropping more weight. I've been losing and regaining the same few pounds for a month and it's about time for a change. I know I can do MUCH better than I'm doing. So I'm going to give it everything I got.

I'm grateful to have loss 29 pounds thus far, but I've struggled with night time eating for many years, it's time to take a stand and take the necessary steps to do something about it. So, here's to another, eat-free night!Ē

I have the same identical problem as BRE2003SB, even down to having lost 29 pounds and am at a standstill because of my night time eating; or should I say eating throughout the entire night. I almost walk myself to death during the day, eat really well and then comes the night and I pig out BIG time. I even eat things during the night that I wouldnít even consider eating during the day. It tastes so much better when I can bring it back to bed with me. Itís as addiction, an obsession; but I WILL OVERCOME IT!
I was wondering if there are others here like this? The first step in solving a problem, is admitting that we have one, that is why I admit to it today, and like I said, because BRE2003SB has inspired me to do so. She has now gone three nights without getting up and eating and I did my first night last night. I have found such love and caring here at Spark People and I believe together we can overcome this.
Can we come together on this thread and make suggestions that will help us overcome? How many of you are with BRE2003SB and myself?

We haven't failed until we fail to try again!
