For those of you who are interested, I found a book, "Overcoming Night Eating Syndrome."
A step-by-step guide to breaking the cycle.
I have just started to read it; but, seems like a good book that will help me a lot.
The authors are:
Kelly C. Allison, PH.D.
Albert J. Stunkard, MD
Sara L. Thier

I first ordered it online from Amazon three months ago. And I am still waiting for that one.
I then ordered it through Coles Book store and it came in 3 days.

We haven't failed until we fail to try again!

Hi T21MELISSA,
Nice to see you here!!
You/we can do it. It's not always overnight but our time will come. I have had a really good week, the first time in months. I didn't eat during the night for 5 nights out of 6. That's a record for me!!

We haven't failed until we fail to try again!

Ugh... It's the one thing I just can't seem to change!!! The worst part is that I snack soo badly at night. It's like that is when my appetite kicks itself into high gear! :-(

Here's a challenge for those of you who are struggling with night time eating. It has worked for me and it can work for you:

1. For the next week, starting today, Saturday, March 2, until next Saturday, March 9th, I want you to NOT aim for perfection because it's too hard on yourself an you will end up being totally defeated all over again. I know because I have been there a thousand times over.
All I am asking is that for the next 7 nights, you have 3 good ones. That is no night time eating for at least three nights. (You can chew gum; but no swallowing it!!)

2. As well, for the next 7 days, I want you to get in 10 minutes of exercise every day. Even if you have to walk around in your home. Believe me, I have done this too.

I can't wait to hear your report!! You can do it; I know you can!! Walk, walk, walk around your home or whereever, until that urge for food goes.

Big hugssssssssssss,
Auntbee

Of course, you have support here! Good for you to come here for help. You kicked the habit once and I know you can do it again. What might be the support you need?

Lucky ~ awesome job to leave those cereal bars in the cupboard and go to bed! Great choice.

I am getting ready to make my evening tea and will be in bed soon myself.

Tomorrow is another day to be successful with our choices! Night all! hugs!

Hi everyone- I've been doing well with saying "no" to night-time eating and I think it's making a big difference. Actually I've got a feeling like a want to put a hurting on a couple of cereal bars in my cupboard but I'm just going to bed. Hope everybody is doing well this week. ((hugs))

NESARIAN- Thank for the welcome! I'll have to post some new pictures of my babycakes. He's such a sweet little boy. Being a stay-at-home mom, I'm always in the kitchen, cooking, feeding my baby, etc. So many of my activities revolve around food and I'm thinking that maybe I need to "close up" the kitchen at night, know what I mean? The funny thing is that my little guy has been getting into everything now that he's walking and my hubby and I discussed the need o get a safety gate to keep him out of the kitchen. So I'm thinking once I'm done in the kitchen after dinner I'll put the gate up for the baby and it'll keep me out of the kitchen too. LOL. And I think just being able to check-in with you all every night will really help with accountability too. Do you all do a "close down the kitchen" kind of thing at night?

MELMOMOF4- I totally hear what you're saying about eating too many "healthy foods". I've realized that all of those 100 calorie snack packs and Weight Watchers cupcakes and things of that ilk do me no good whatsoever. I'll eat something like that and then want more....and then I get into trouble. I think unless it's a fruit or vegetable, I simply can't handle snacking. But I think realizing our limitations and weaknesses is really important.

I am still struggling with the eating at night after work. although I am eating healthier foods. but I find myself justifying it because it is healthier. but I really need to stop doing this.

Just wanted to say hello.....I'm trying to stop night-time eating and emotional eating of course too but it seems like night-time eating is a good place to start. I'm happy to see this thread and be a part of this team. Things have been stressful in my home because my husband has been working a lot lately and our son who is now 16 months just started walking this week. It's been fun, but always have to be on my toes. Good night to you all....I'm heading to bed.

We have been having almost 70* weather so naturally thoughts turn to gardening. The garden space is being doubled so lots of clearing and soil prep. Last year was such a bizarre weather year that garden produce was dismal. We decided to try some new veggies this year. Eggplant! The Japanese style as they are smaller and will mature more quickly. I have primroses to plant today and onions and garlic. Several seed packets also but I may wait a bit for them.
I am starting to feel better so doing more but still not back to full exercise. Sense of smell and taste are coming back finally. I found I was eating more just trying to taste the food. I never realized how much sense of taste has to do with feeling sated.

Auntbee, as always, you are the real power behind any of your successes. I appreciate your gratitude though but feel you deserve all the credit.

Where is everyone?

Thanks so much NESARIAN for all your patience and caring. You have been a MARVELOUS help to me. It was steps, and I give you credit for getting me to many of those steps!!! I so appreciate you!

OCEANLUVR, I am so sorry to hear you had surgery, my thoughts and prayers are with you. The doctor did the cutting; but, God does the healing!!
As for Income Tax, the best part of it is the refund....LOL...Hubby and I take ours every year and go on a vacation, somewhere where's it's warm.

CALLABLOSSOM, that's awesome the way you are handling things. Not eating after dinner is GREAT!!! I find if I don't eat after dinner; then I can better handle not eating during the night.

We have quite the storm here today, we could get up to 40 - 50 cm's of snow. The winds are high too. Guess it's a PJ day for me...Not going to venture out. I would love to have gone to church; but even that is closed today!! We have lots to eat, electric heat plus a wood stove. Thank you Lord for all your blessings!!

Have a GREAT day yourself!

Big hugsssssssssss,
Auntbee

I too have said goodbye to nighttime noshing. I made a rule that I don't eat after 6 p.m. and it works.

Hi ladies!
Great job Aunt bee...you are kicking things up!

I have been "deep in the heart of TAX RETURNS"!

Yesterday had eye surgery to further remove melanoma. I have four stitches right under eye on left side...not a good time for it being tax season..but at least I have that task knocked off the list.
Have a great weekend!

Hello my dear friend, NESARIAN and all you other dear ladies!

Sorry I haven't been around much, life is so busy :-) But GOOD!!

I have finally broken the Night Time Eating Syndrome, thanks to a dear friend and the good Lord!! She was very honest with me and it hurt big time; but it hurt enough for me to change my mind set and get rid of the sameo sameo...It was time after four plus years of bloating, guilt and every other negative thing that went with it.

She simply asked me, "What's stopping you from breaking the habit." I told her I couldn't stop it, and she asked, "What's stopping you?" She said, "You are the only one that can stop you." With tears in my eyes, I thought, why doesn't this woman understand that I have tried and tried and tried; but can't do it. She said, "God is willing to help you; but you are the one who has to go the first night." Then it hit me what she was trying to tell me, "I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN STOP IT?" The truth hit me like a ton of bricks and I knew she was right and that I had to do this. Okay I told her, I will answer to you. Tonight I will not eat, even it means staying awake all night. I will tell you in the morning that I did not get up and eat. And I WAS awake all night; but I DID NOT EAT emoticon ..I have now gone 7 nights and tonight will be night 8. I can't thank my good friend enough and the good Lord. I have taken my Bible to bed with me every night and hold it tightly too me until the urge for food passes! It's different this time round, I know I will do it; Eating all night long isn't an option anymore. In one week I have loss 5.2 pounds and feel so good..No bloating, no guilt..Just peace and lots of it!!

Don't give up ladies, your time is coming too, perhaps even today. My prayers are with you!

Big Hugssssssssssss,
Auntbee

Hi All, Auntbee, thank you for posting daily encouragements. I so hope God has a plan for me to overcome this viral condition as I am at a loss with it. Hubby brewed up a concoction last night that I could only swallow a few sips of as it had toooooo much cayenne in it. I was afraid of heartburn all night. I plan to sip on it all day.

How has everyone been doing? Where is Miss Bree? Hugs to all.

Say “I Can” to the Mountain
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“And Jesus answered them, Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done.”
(Matthew 21:21, AMP)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

We’ve all had seasons when the challenges of life feel overwhelming. During those times, it’s easy to be tempted to talk about how bad things are. Maybe you received a bad medical report, or maybe you’re facing a financial obstacle. The more you talk about something, the bigger it becomes in your mind. Instead, you’ve got to dig your heels in and say, “No, I am not going to give life to that defeat. I am not going to speak sickness over myself. I’m not going to speak lack. I’m not going to speak fear. I’m choosing a different report. I believe the report of the Lord which says, ‘I can do all things through Christ. I can defeat this sickness. I can break this addiction. I can have peace in my home. I can see restoration in my relationships.’ ”

Remember, even if you don’t see how things could ever work out, God does. You’ve got to speak His Word over those mountains in your life and declare favor over those situations. Instead of talking to God about how big your problems are, talk to your problems about how big your God is! As you speak to your mountains, they will be moved, and you will walk forward into the victory God has prepared for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, I declare that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. I speak to the mountains in my life and say, “Be moved!” I declare blessings, favor and victory over my future in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Give Your Faith a Voice
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak.”
(2 Corinthians 4:13, NKJV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Every believer has been given a measure of faith. In order to see the promises of God come to pass in your life, you have to give your faith a voice. You must declare what God says about you in His Word. Those seeds of faith inside you are activated when you speak them out into the atmosphere. That’s why the scripture tells us, “Let the weak say I am strong. Let the poor say I am rich.” When you give your faith a voice and send forth the Word of God, the Bible says that He watches over His Word to bring it to pass in your life.

Every word you speak is a seed. Don’t dig up your seed by speaking against your faith! Don’t allow words of defeat or negativity come out of your mouth. Instead, water your seed by continuing to declare the Word of God. When you wake up every morning, thank Him that His promises are coming to pass in your life. As you do, you will see those things come to pass and live the life of victory God has prepared for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, today I humbly come before You giving You my thoughts, my actions, and my words. Help me to give my faith a voice by speaking Your Word daily. May my words and my thoughts be pleasing to You always in Jesus’ name. Amen.
— Joel & Victoria Osteen

We all can! Makes a catchy chant. I can, you can, we all can! Thanks for posting such an inspirational reminder, Auntbee. There is a reinforcement that occurs when we state out loud our intention. Wonderful post, Auntbee!

I think I am winning over this crud now. Still feeling weak so being cautious about energy expenditure. I have a tendency to jump instead of ease back into routines. So, I CAN be mindful of gradual strengthening and honoring my needs as they are vs what I want them to be.

Make it a great day all!

Each day we begin again.

I CAN......I REALLY CAN

I Can
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
(Philippians 4:13, NKJV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

When was the last time you declared “I can” out loud? It’s not something people think to do every day. In fact, most people tend to magnify their limitations. They focus on their shortcomings. But scripture makes it plain: all things are possible to those who believe. That’s right! It is possible to see your dreams fulfilled. It is possible to overcome that obstacle. It is possible to climb to new heights. It is possible to embrace your destiny. You may not know how it will all take place. You may not have a plan, but all you have to know is that if God said you can...you can!

Today, why don’t you begin to open yourself up to possibilities in your future by simply declaring this verse, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength?” At the stoplight, when you’re waiting in line, any time you have a second just quote this verse to yourself again. Let it sink down deeply into your heart. As you do, His word will transform you. Faith will rise up in your heart and will boldly embrace the blessings that He has in store for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for empowering me by Your spirit to do everything that I'm called to do. Thank You for Your hand of blessing on me as I submit my ways to You. I declare “I can” do all things in Jesus’ name! Amen.
— Joel & Victoria Osteen

yay for not eating after 7! I think it a grand plan. The whole night time eating issue is a slippery slope. One bite can turn into an avalanche! I stick to herbal tea. I have several boxes to choose from. Having choices offers me the feeling of abundance vs deprivation. Just my own peculiarity.

I made myself a challenge to not eat after 7:00pm. So far so good !!! I can do good all day and at the end of the day go on a binge and ruin it all. By setting this challenge, I cut that out.

I really watch my late night eating....99.999 percent of the time..it is not true hunger..

Tired hunger
Stressed hunger
Bored hunger

..and if I turn to carbs and sugars..off the wagon totally..my body just wants more..like an addict..never been a druggie or drunk..but junk food has been a lifelong battle...we can do this...greater is he that is in me...!!!

i know this sounds funny but i dont think my night time eating is totally because of the taste but a stress thing of moving my mouth, like smoking. Hard to explain. So each week Im going to give up something that I like after 7. Its hard for me to quit cold turkey.

Vicki, I cannot sleep if I eat late either. Going to sleep with a full belly just seems so hard on the body. I am trying to be a better friend to my body. After all, I ask a lot of it!

The reason I try to cut off eating by a certain time of evening is I rest better that way. If I go to bed with a full stomach, I can't sleep worth a darn.

Yesterday I got in 3 hours of walking ( 9 miles) so I'm pretty sore today. Tomorrow we'll be going to the fitness center and I'll do 45 minutes of water aerobics. That should loosen up all the sore muscles. Hope everyone has a good day today.

Vikki, I just took a SP Quiz today to earn some points. It was titled "How quickly does your food turn to fat?" One of the answers was that your body doesn't KNOW it's night and and metabolizes your food the same regardless of the time of day!

Feel better soon NESARIAN.

I'm not one to snack after around 8pm, but from 6-8pm it's sometimes difficult to say no. Especially the first day after grocery shopping, which was today for us. I tried to pick a few healthy snacks but I still feel I shouldn't be snacking past a certain time each evening. How do ya'll feel about a time cut off for eating?

Bre ~ how very awesome! You sound so enthused and relieved. emoticon

Auntbee, you are always so cheerful and willing to share a daily message to lift us all up. It is always exciting to come here to see what you have shared.

I am still tackling this virus and planning on winning but just have not done so yet. My dr says it will take time. Okay. But I have things to do that do not include being sick and weak and sleepy! All in good time....

I just got back from church and what a great service it was. The sermon was about commitment. "Taking your commitment through the roof". Gossiping about Jesus and exercising your faith in Him. He talked about the paraplegic(paralytic)and how his friends carried him to Jesus each of them carrying their own corner of the bed. Because there wasn't any room through the door(so many people gathered there)they took him through the roof. They wasn't concern with what the cost would be to fix the roof they just knew Jesus was there and their friend needed Him. Impressed by their belief, Jesus said to the paraplegic,"Son, your sins are forgiven". That's the type of faith I want. I AM, refreshed and refocused. Thank You Lord!

I hope Everyone is having a great day! Love you ALL and praying for you. Continue to support and encourage each other whenever you can. emoticon

I received something form SPARKPEOPLE this morning that I thought was quite informative, and it backs up what I have been saying! Let's have some input here!

"How can I prevent late night eating that seems to get me off track?

Do you allow yourself room for the foods you enjoy (in moderation) in your eating plan? Is it possible that you are too strict with yourself throughout the day and that's why you tend to get off track in the evening? It's totally okay to plan for an evening snack if you think that might work well for you. I would have a very hard time having my last meal at 5 pm and then nothing until the next morning. Contrary to popular myth, there's no reason to cut off eating at a specific time of day. What matters most is how many calories you're taking in over the total day, not when you're eating them.

Do you think it also might help to plan some activities for that time of day, so you don't have a chance to get bored and then start snacking? Maybe you decide to do your exercise at that time, or even just go for an easy walk after dinner. Maybe you plan other activities out of the house where you're not tempted by food.

Hopefully that gives you a few things to think about. Here's an article I'd also suggest reading:

Keep on Sparking! "

You are who you are, don't try to be someone else. You are the way God created you, in His image. He loves you just as you are and wants you to know that there is nothing you could change about you that would make Him love you anymore or any less. He wants you to love yourself too. Not in pride; but in acceptance of the beautiful person He has made of you.

We haven't failed until we fail to try again!

Good morning ladies! Auntbee, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better. This crud likes to linger. I like your plan very much. You are recognizing what works for you and adjusting accordingly. Having ONE night time snack seems to be needed for sleep. So, adjusting caloric intake to allow a snack is brilliant! I like the exercise also. Sounds like a great plan!

Each day we begin again.

Good morning everyone. I am feeling a bit better today; but, weak from all the coughing. Thanks for the well wishes NESARIAN.

Bre, those are really great words of advice that NESARIAN has given you!

I want to give you something to think about too. Of course everybody is different and what's working for me, might not work for you. You have to find out what works best for you. I'll tell you in just a minute what I am doing; but first I want to say this, "You said you wanted to get your focus of Night Time eating, and that's GREAT advice for both you and I .

I have decided to go with the flow, and it's really working for me. I am one of those who just has to have something to eat during the night. I am not a good sleeper as is, and if I don't have a snack, then it keeps me awake ALL night. So I thought, oh well, I'll have something to eat when I can't sleep.
The secret is this,
(1) I leave a lot of my daily allowance calories for when I can't sleep. If I understand correctly, SparkPeople doesn't care when you eat your calorie allowance, just as long as you don't go over that amount.

(2) I don't eat anymore than once during the night.

(3) I am exercising more.

It's working for me, I am coming down on the scales, plus I'm not obsessed with the Night Time eating thing anymore.

Let me know what you all think, okay?

Have a blessed day!
Auntbee
