Grab a glass of water. Then think, am I hungry or is it something else?

Wow...the idea of being bored at work is completely foreign to me! lol It just doesn't happen. One thing I did think of is maybe offering assistance to other departments...eg.filing, assisting, reconciling, photocopying, scanning, creating? Obviously you have some time on your hands so why not let the powers that be know you could use some new challenges...bosses love that and I would think appreciate you for your honesty. I dunno, I could be way off but this is what I'd rather see as a manager. emoticon

My work IS food - running company cafes. I have temptation issues, and running AWAY from my duties - boring or stressful as they might be - is when I end up with garbage in my mouth. I am trying to spark more. I love all the ideas posted - they might also help keep me out of the food! Good luck!

I am an appointment coordinater, so on the phones all day in a clinic. I have one co-worker who talks about FOOD all the time!!! Drives me crazy when I have to work with her. (she is not thin either).
At work I have music playing softly for a distraction. I never dwell on food. Bad idea for me.
Evenings are always a challenge, after supper time.
It is like I get hyper and want to eat and eat and eat. The work place: always have water available. I sometimes chew gum too.

One thing I hate to do at work is fill in for the receptionist. I have to do that at least 2 hours during the day. When I'm there I make sure I do some pacing to at least burn a couple of calories because I sit at a desk most of the rest of the time. People look at me funny but I don't care. I tell them its better than just sitting there more. I don't know if this suggestion will help you. If pacing doesn't work maybe the Spark People Office Workout Video is doable.

Another idea is to take up knitting, crocheting or another craft to make Christmas gifts, etc.

Have a TERRIFIC day!

These are good suggestions. But don't forget to considder job expansion. first. Get all your work done immediately. Do it perfectly, you've got the time. Then look around for things that need doing and start doing them. Take them on. Faxes in the out box? Deliver them, Coffee area not perfect. Clean it up! Something look disorganized, organize it. Then find out everyone's birthdays and make a list and send out virtual cards.

If that's not enough (with everything below) Start a SparkTeam and try to build it up, That's a huge time sucker and you will be looking very busy...

AND I'm going to invite you to a team that talks about your issue and other work issues. Another Team might keep you even busier!

Emma

Glad to help. I don't have a boring job, but occasionally have time to internet search. I find good buys on overstock.com and amazon.com. I keep my checkbook in a spreadsheet and I color code everything in it. That way I just copy and paste repeat things and click and drag and know what money I will or won't have when. Pink is pending transactions for future months, yellow is items already cleared, no color means it's been written or sent but not yet posted, blue is for deposits, green is for tax write offs. I even put a line in the checkbook deduction that says "rainy day fund" and when that date rolls around, i get on the internet and transfer it over to savings. You could also look for new recipes to try that are healthy options. If nobody is around, how about bringing in a walk away the pounds DVD and play it on your computer? If you have kids, start planning their birthday party, pick a theme, games, work on hand made invitations. Get all of your filing done at the desk and ask others if they have any filing they need done? Get out the disinfectant wipes and give your desk a thorough pass through, including your phone. Decorate your cube/office with seasonal decorations...download the clipart and cut them out with scissors and pin up around everywhere. Plan an office potluck...theme fit for summer! Healthy foods...you get it :)

Great ideas Kate! I too know what it's like to have a very boring job. After you go through all those great ideas like Kate's you still are faced with the job.

Can you write out lists of things you need to do at home? Things you want to get organized? Online shop for things to help that process? Balance your checkbook. Project it out for the next few months with repeat things you pay every month. Catch up on personal notes to friends instead of just emails. Make a list of all the birthdays in your family and think about what if anything you want to do or make for them. Project out a Christmas savings account and what you could do with it. Go on cat or dog.com and buy your babies something. Plan your goal outfit. Find some accessories/shoes for it. Shop on travelzoo.com for a mini vacation or weekend away to surprise your honey.

I have an amazingly BORING job. I am an assistant with pretty much no work to do. I sit in a quiet office all by myself with nothing to do but be on spark and stare at my blank computer all day! I feel totally trapped. Yes I have stuff I could do, but the amount of work I have totals about 90 minutes and I still have about 4 more hours of work - plus all day tomorrow. I just sit here thinking about food all day long. Seriously I think I'm going to go crazy!
I do a great job at exercising and outside of work I have a good attitude, but work has become tourture!
