You are not alone so don't beat yourself up about it. Whatever you do, don't give up this journey. I used to talk to a therapist about my weight and her comment helped a little but I did not start really getting serious until after I stopped seeing her. You must write down what might be causing these binges. emoticon

Find something positive to do when you want to binge. Call a friend. Exercise. Go window shopping for skinny clothes. Be encouraged and don't let this get you down.

Keep food in your house that will not have so many calories like veggies and low sugar fruits. You can do it. Be blessed!

My advice is: if you binge one day, just try to do something positive the next. Don't look back so much-- it'll only lead you to more anxiety; (hence, MORE overeating)

A vicious cycle, I know... it has trapped me countless times

I'd just exercise a little while after an eating binge, it makes you feel so much better...

i'm SURE you'll overcome this! just keep trying and know that we're all here for you

Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain.

I'm wondering if procastination and boredom are a factor in your binging. I have been home 4 days out of the last two weeks due to extreme weather conditions in my area. As a result, my daily routine has been disrupted, and I'm stuck at home where I have access to any food in this house. I have all of this free time I wouldn't ordinarily have, so I've put it to good use, right? Read on...

I'm a type A personality. I like to stay busy. Yet, that seems to go out the window whenever I have downtime at home. I go to the opposite extreme and turn into a couch potato, because what I really want is to have have a little fun in my life. But I'm struggling financially right now and there's no flexibility for "luxuries." As a result, I'm feeling frustrated and a little deprived. I love to read, but I can't make myself pick up a book or magazine. I work hard at work, and I work hard at home. Where does pleasure and fun come in?

When my thinking goes into that mode, I start to feel nervous and edgy. Since I can't do the things I'd like to do...like go to a movie, or shopping, I start thinking about my old friend...food. Do you see how this cycle of thinking and behaviors begins?
For folks like us, food has nothing to do with hunger, and everything to do with making ourselves feel better. When we are "BAD" by overeating, then we use that to justify feeling sorry for ourselves, and eating even more to feel better again. I guess that's a case of setting very low expectations for ourselves. We tell ourselves we couldn't do it anyway, so why try?

I think the only way to break that cycle is recognize those initial thoughts and feelings in the early stages. It's all about what's eating us, not what we're eating, that's the problem. If you defuse those initial, intense feelings, then you'll be able to change your focus and the urge to binge.

There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't struggle with the same issue. But I have gotten stronger over time. When I do "binge" today, it's maybe one bite of a food, instead of a whole package. I think I will always be a work in progress, but I can still enjoy successes along my journey!

Please don't give up on yourself. Perhaps you can reevaluate your goals and develop a menu plan that will allow you to have some of the things you enjoy. Changing your lifestyle doesn't mean you have to give up everything, it just means you have to modify what you have been doing. First and foremost, prioritize your issues. Work on the things that are bothering you most at this time, and the food issues will probably fall into place, too.

Don't be afraid to talk about your feelings or ask for help. That's why we're all here at SP, to help each other! We can help each other figure out how to plan for a special meal or evening. And, we can be good listeners if you just need to share.

Chin up sweetie. We're here for you!

Didn't do so good last night. My friends and I went out and I drank too much and binged on an entire pint of ice cream and butter popcorn.

Sigh. back one day 1. Today i will not binge

Good for you! 100 calories over is a major improvement in just one day. I'm proud of you!

Although I didn't binge today, I still ate over my calorie range and to many carbs...I even bailed out on the gym because I was so tired after work...

Oh well It was only 100 calories over...tomorrow will be better.

I have tried the eating small meals throughout the day plan, and it doesn't seem to work for me. I think I am not planning it right. I am trying to get in to see a dietitian to plan out my meals for me since I do not think I am doing it right. I think I am not getting the right nutrients in my plan because I am so focused on keeping within the calorie range. With a dietitian planning out my meals, hopefully it will curb my binge tendencies.

I'm not sure if this is helpful or not...

My SO used to be very overweight. And he has zero willpower if there is "bad food" in the house. He can sniff it out and eat it. But we got rid of things in the house that weren't healthy. He wrote out a meal plan - 7 days a week, 6 meals a day. He prepped all of his foods for the week ahead of time. And he knew what he could eat, when. And he stuck with it.

He lost well over 100 lbs. And he is now a bodybuilder. The trick for him was to get the food that was bad out of the house. To only have the food he needed for the week in our house. And to have it written down on paper what he could eat that week.

I didn't lose the weight with him. In part because I didn't eat enough. I ate maybe 2 meals a day. My metabolism is so slow I think it goes backwards. His ? 6 meals a day sped his metabolism up so fast I think he could eat 3 meals at McDonalds and not gain an ounce. (well, I know he can since that's what he does when he goes nuts LOL).

And by eating 6 times a day, he was constantly full - and literally had meals to eat whenever the mood struck, even at night when he was bored.

My food doc says I need to eat even more. I'm up to 4 meals a day. I'm noticing my metabolism is faster. And I too now write down everything I should eat during the week. In fact I often come to SP and plug in my daily meal plan to see if it will work out calorie/nutrient wise. And that includes the 4 meals, plus one extra meal (snack) a day that I can eat if I NEED to eat something (i.e. emotional eating) - and still stay within my range.

I'm now upping it to between 5 and 6 meals a day. Smaller meals. I feel like I'm eating non-stop. But I'm getting used to it. And the weight is finally coming off.

The trick for me is having something that I CAN eat if I need to at night. And getting rid of everything else that I can't have, that I know I'll binge on. It's not possible for everyone, I know. And also, I think for me to have it written down helps alot. I keep the list in my kitchen, and it's like a guide for the week.

Hi Lisa! I don't mean to be extremely nosey, but what plan are you following, exactly? I just noticed that you mentioned a lot of carbs when you binged the other night. I'm only asking because if I go through the day and I am short on them, it is all I crave, and it is uncontrollable when it happens.

You need to eat within a hr of getting up, this revs up your metabolism. Also, when you go more that 4 hours without eating your body thinks it's starving and starts storing fat. Got this info. from Bob Greene 'The Best Life Diet' on the Oprah show.

Before you eat that first thing, ask yourself if you are really hungry. Try to figure out what is triggering that first impulse. Just because you eat one thing wrong don't think, well that's it! If it's just boredom, talk to someone or find something to keep your mind busy. Being on Sparks really helps. It's amazing how times flies when you are on here. Good luck, I know it's hard and frightening to feel out of control, but we're all cheering for you. We've been there don't despair.

Everyday we wake up to a new slate...tonite plan your meals and snacks...get them ready for tomorrow and you will be surprised...go on with life and think like the thin person you are inside...don't think about diets ..or food... just what youcan do for fun after work...when the meals are planned you don't have to think about food that often...it seems to be helping me ...one day at a time...Dee

Should I eat breakfast or lunch? Would skipping be better? What should I plan to eat?

Would everyone be okay with me pestering them with how my day goes tomorrow and trying to get motivation for staying away from the binge?

Tomorrow when your night begins, you grab a hot cup of tea and you come right here to spark and you surf and read and blog and comment and post your little heart out! I'm always amazed at how long I end up spending LOL Don't be in a rush or a hurry to get to your goal. It doesn't do anything but stress you out. You're absolutely beautiful now, and I would LOVE to be your size! Love yourself, you are worthy. Say that outloud, I am worthy and capable to love myself.

The funny thing is that I am NOT even hungry when I eat. Because of all the bingeing I have been so bloated and feeling sick every day. But that doesn't seem to stop me from still bingeing the next night. I think that I need to turn to sparkpeople more often. I have been using it for almost a year but only to track my calories and fitness. I only sporadically turned to posts and sparkpages.

I know I am angry because of the pressure I feel to keep the weight off. I hate having to work so hard and worry about every calorie. Of course I don't feel better after bingeing so it seems stupid to keep turning to it when I feel down.

So what do I do tomorrow?

You can and will lose the weight! Here's something that I read from another post, hope it helps!

The next time you want to binge:

1. If I could have something OTHER than food right now, what would it be? If you can do that instead of eat, well than do it! If it's a long term goal, journal about it or come here and post about it rather than eat.

2. Do I love myself more than _______? (insert name of food you are reaching for.

I hope you will say you love yourself more than the food because I can tell from the great posts and support you all offer, that you are all wonderful and you all deserve to love and respect yourselves as much, if not more than I love and respect you all.
(by Neekibear)

Stay positive and don't beat yourself up. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start over again.

When I've eaten something I shouldn't have I usually start posting and read peoples blogs, which distracts me. Also, I thought about making myself exercise for a few minutes if I caught myself going for the food, give it a try and let me know!

Good Luck on your journey!
Angie

I think I am just getting so angry that I have to work so hard. I do great during the day., eat right, feel good.

Then I get home after work, try to have a sensible dinner, then I tell myself, just one treat, and then I just can't stop. I went through 4 bowls of cereal, entire bag of buttered popcorn, 2 nutri-grain bars, and a pria bar.

I try to distract myself then I just get so angry that it is so hard and just keep gorging. This sucks. Now what if I can't lose back the 10 pounds?

LISAMN1 - Is there some way you can try to keep busy so you won't be busy. Think hard, what do you enjoy doing? Anything to get you out of the house and away from food. Link up with friends. Walk, bike, run, go to a gym, to s movie. to a museum, anything!

Hello Lisa - it's okay if you have to post a million times. The important thing is you obviously haven't given up, good for you! I wish I could tell you something magic that you don't already know, but the truth is, it's really just hard sometimes and this is one of those times. Have you tried to do things to keep yourself busy and out of the kitchen? Is there an underlying issue you're trying not to deal with? Have you been hurt before and are afraid to get to your goal weight so you self sabotage? I'm listening sweetiepie...

I feel like this is my billion post about failing to avoid bingeing. I am trying to get in to talk to a professional about this but it has been successful so far because they do not have any openings.

For the past 3 weeks i have been consuming over 3,00 calories daily. I have gained most of the weight that I had lost back.

I see myself eating and telling myself to stop. I just feel so out of control. I don't know what to do.

Please I need something.. someone...help
