Hey all! I'm new but thought I would weigh in on this one...

This week I quit smoking! I'm on day 3 and couldn't be happier! I am drinking tons of water and feeling wonderful!

My goals all surround getting out and hitting the field playing softball this spring/summer. I used to play a lot and I would love to be back in shape so that I can play and run the bases with ease!

Laters, Bex

I swam some laps in the pool, push mowed a section of the yard, and worked in the garden.

Had a consultation with a doctor suggested by a friend who has expereinced some of the weight loss (or lack thereof) issues. Turns out, no matter how hard I try, I will not lose the weight until my hormones are back to normal levels. What a relief to know it wasn't all just me!

We've been working in the yard the last few weeks. Yesterday I moved a ton (literally) of rubber mulch. And felt pretty good after!

Looking for the sun and temperature to get about 65 or higher. My bones hurt to much during these cold temps to do much more than that its great to get old. Doing mental exercises.

Recovered and starting to build mileage back up-yay! We've had some really warm days-looks like Cincy has too. Starting to get that baseball bug! I follow Brandon Phillips on Twitter and the Red's Caravan has been on the road!

Congrats on your new, soon to be grandson!

Been making a comeback from a nasty bout of the flu-been walking 3 miles (in the freezing cold!) every morning this week. Is it spring YET?!

Started marathon training this weekend, worked up to it with a couple of runs this past week and had a really good (almost 5 miles!) run Saturday. Going to be a super busy week! Boot camp Mon, Wed, Fri, runs on Tues, Thurs...then off to Memphis. I cannot wait for a couple of days of R&R!!

Over the weekend, my wife and I took to doing some heavy chore work in the house. We purchased some uber-study shelves for the basement and to fill them with things that were cluttering the rest of the house. The shelves were on sale at Costco(still are, $40 for 5 shelves that hold 1000 lbs each shelf!) and weigh about 115 lbs per box. Luckily my wife didn't have to carry them or they'd still be at Costco. After lugging them into the house and down to the basement I got the task of putting them all together which involved banging bits of metal together with a rubber mallet for a few hours. Then I got to lift boxes weighing 40 - 100+ lbs to put on the shelves. Then I got to carry assorted awkward armfuls of kitchen tools and gadgets and other assorted sundries up and down the stairs a few dozen times. Then I got to help scrub and wipe and sweep and shine and clean clean clean the kitchen and dining room as well as clearing mold from the basement floor.

Needless to say, I'm ready for the weekend now that the week has restarted. But not because I'm exhausted(only a bit) but because next weekend we're going to finish cleaning the basement floor and work on the garage as well(shelves are perfect for out there too!). To top it all off, we made homemade Cuban-style arroz con pollo(yes, chicken and rice) and it was amazing Sunday night. Maybe not the healthiest, but we were exercising all weekend, so we earned it.

Qunoa! I've always eaten it like I would oatmeal, in the morning with a little honey or cinnamon and a Splenda packet. Never occured to me to eat as a side with dinner! I'll have to dig around for some recipes :)

I ran twice this week, early morning since it's so riduculously hot and humid here after sun up! Going for a 20 mile bike ride early tomorrow morning-give those legs a bit of a break!

I've been monitoring my calorie intake closely this week and have lost 2 pounds in 5 days, excited about that since my weight fluctuates so much!

Keep up the positive attitude-it's all those small things like lots of walking while shopping emoticon that add up! When you look back at what you thought were just "small choices" they add up to measureable results!!

Stay cool out and hydrated out there!

Today I tried a new healthy food that I've been hearing a lot about - Quinoa. We cooked it for dinner as a side dish and after having a few zucchini wraps, we tried it. Ugh - Terrible! But, that won't stop me - I just need to find a good recipe. I like trying new items just plain - the way they recommend cooking it and then looking for ways to fix it to my tastes. Anyone eat this stuff and have a good healthy recipe???

Well so far today I haven't done anything(just woke up).

Yesterday my wife and I reorganized and cleaned up most of the kitchen, set up a dehumidifier in the basement, hit the produce store and then Costco(lots of walking there!), and also cooked some ropa vieja. It was some good stuff.

Today, despite being tired (late night for hubby's bday) my girlfriend and I went for our 7 AM walk (instead of being bad and bailing out because of the heat!) and actually went farther than either of us realized. Thank goodness for friends that keep me accountable!!

Following the lead of SparkGuy, I thought it might be a good idea to have a place for us to be accountable for our actions-what did you do today to continue on your path to a healthier you? Pack your lunches for the week? Go for a walk? Run for the first time? Make healthy choices when faced with adversity?

Sharing those sometimes small but postivie steps may be what encourages someone else today or could be just the inspiration you need to make your own building blocks to success!! I know, I've come here often in search of an attitude check emoticon
