Plan ahead. Know going into it what you're going to do. For example, I might eat a healthy salad chalked full of veggies earlier in the day & make a decision to try a small portion of a couple snacks. I look for fruit & veggie trays to take up the bulk of my plate & I enjoy the people & conversation. I'm always conscious of balance, looking for both protein & carb options & sticking with portion control.
I usually decide ahead of time if I'm going to afford myself a small piece of dessert. Filling up on healthier fare ahead of time & not denying myself an occasional indulgence works for me; satisfies my sweet tooth and I know I'm going to return to my fitness routine & my healthy lifestyle the next day :)
And, I'll add I try to get in an exercise session that morning or sometimes walk with family following a Holiday dinner.

“Life shouldn’t be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly shouting…”Wow! What a ride! Thank You Lord!”
