Hi, as a former culinary professional, I am an avid cook, foodie and gardener. While I am trying to embrace a healthier lifestyle, I am confident that I can continue to eat amazing food. I am a firm believer in the philosophy that life is too short to eat bad food, even if it's healthy.

Hey, everybody!

Old member starting anew :) Just joining the team. I'm Ashley, and I love to cook, bake, and (my downfall) EAT! Trying to cut down on portion size, carbs and fats without skimping on amazing flavor. What is life if you can't enjoy what you eat?!

This morning I made an egg white omelet with some fresh spinach and tomato, and a little bit of goat cheese. Hoping with a little bit of prepwork, I can eat better, lose weight, and enjoy it!

Hey there, I am new to sparkpeople and the group. I am really big into gourmet cooking, I am/was learning how to use gourmet ingredients like oils, artisan cheeses, heirloom vegetables and so on. I am hoping I can still use some of these ingredients while losing weight. I just had gall bladder removal surgery yesterday, and it kind of opened my eyes to what was going on with my body. I guess I focused on intellectual things and just pushed anything physical to the side. When I did think about it, I did crazy fad diets the whole 'low card grapefruit hoodia GHB drops' thing. I lost the weight but it was temporary. I am more worried about being able to see past my 40th birthday, not having a hear attack and experiencing all the things I want to like sky diving and getting into a martial art. Looks/vanity is secondary.

Totally agree with you. I just got Scott Conant's new cookbook, and next month it's going to be the new one from John Besh.

Hello all! I am also in the unfortunate position of having no kitchen. I have set up a hot plate and toaster oven which are helping me crank out delicious meals for my small family. I have had a lot of truly tragic moments in my life, and I am convinced that the creative outlet of cooking good food got me through it. I can't afford all the fancy ingredients, so I play with whatever is cheap and fresh. I love to experiment. Lately the healthy recipes I have created for my family have been a huge hit and I am on a foodie high from it all. I hope to find some tips and advice from the pro's here to keep the creative juices flowing.

Hi! I am currently a foodie without a kitchen - which is a bit of a challenge. I have limited access to a kitchen at the moment due to my current temporary (lasting longer than we thought it would!) situation. I love flavor, spice, trying new recipes and unusual combinations of foods... I love dinners, homemade or out, fresh food and local food! Basically I guess I love food :P And I am trying to do that with a little more moderation :) Seemed like this was a good team for me to join :)

A dream without a plan is just a wish!

I just joined SP a couple weeks ago and am trying to figure everything out and trying to find some active boards where I can make some friends who understand my struggles! I like to cook (although I sometimes struggle with juggling working late, weightloss efforts, spending time with my husband and cats, fixing up our house, and the time it takes to cook awesome things).

I'm currently trying to find a balance between losing weight, eating enjoyable things, and keeping my doctor from having a nutty over the knowledge that I made a cream sauce for my grilled chicken and veggies.

I started losing weight for the first time in a long time when I began making more decadent items because I started enjoying smaller amounts of my meals instead of stuffing my face with two servings of food I wish tasted as amazing as a tenderloin topped with a red wine reduction and blue cheese crumbles.

I've never been one to blindly accept information given to me (like my doctor's "eat this/avoid that" sheet) and so I'm not willing to accept that my life has to be all about steamed broccoli, plain baked tilapia, fear of any starches (including corn and carrots), and avoidance of all saturated fats. Maybe I'll lose weight fast with that but I'll be miserable!

So for now, until I'm convinced otherwise by my reasearch, I'll stick with losing a pound or so a week while enjoying (less of) my food and will make alterations that I can live with where I can.

Hello Fellow Foodies,
I would like to formally blame my bro, the executive chef, for my weight problems. There- it is on the internet so it exists forever. jk! Unfortunately they pre-date his career choice. However, I do not believe having been spoiled at his restaurants have helped me.
Thankfully, as an awesome supportive older bro, he is supportive as he can be from NYC (I live in Michigan). He gives great advice and suggestions. I love to cook. I love to bake. I love to grocery shop and buy the freshest seasonal produce. I love it all. I used to hate when my mom would tweak a recipe the first go-around, but now I do it all the time. I welcome ideas and suggestions!

I Love butter. My family took a very long walk this evening and ate at a new and healthy little Mediterranean restaurant. When we left the restaurant, we passed a little place called "The Butter Café". Oh thank goodness they are only open for breakfast and lunch because I'm sure we would have established a fabulous relationship just based on their name.
I Love Butter and all other things that dazzle the taste buds. Sure, there are some healthy things that excite me and I probably would not be over weight if I practiced moderation a little more successfully!!!
I'm hoping to stir up some amazing ideas and encouragement through this group!!

Hello all! I've been using SparkPeople off & on for a few years, I tend to go out to eat with my fellow foodie husband & am so disappointed by all the calories that I've eaten at fabulous restaurants that I stop tracking. The goal this time around is simple - don't go out to eat or avoid gorging myself when I do go out to eat. :) And cut back on the red wine. We love to eat fabulous food (just returned from Italy a few weeks ago) and watching Anthony Bourdain. I also love to cook when I am excited about the delicious end result instead of another ho-hum healthy meal. I need some healthy cooking inspiration!

Hi all,

I've been reading the posts down the list here...interesting reading. I love to cook in my little kitchen, which I have mostly stocked with good cookware. I also watch Food Network and like some of their recipes. I add my own little touch to it, like fennel on top of potato frittata.
Since I love good food, I suppose that I'm looking for a way to incorporate these into a healthy lifestyle

Hi everyone! emoticon I'm Paige, a preschool teacher for kids with special needs. I'm currently recovering from foot surgery for the next month and a half. Hi I'm Andrea/Adarkara,

I was once told I'm a picky eater because I don't like some 'normal' things like mustard, horseradish, mayonnaise based salads, or spearmint flavored chewing gum, but I also love a lot of things that other people won't try!

I love watching No Reservations and Bizarre Foods on Travel Channel, and there are a bunch of thing I don't think I would try, but there are things I DO want to try!

I recently discovered foie gras (YUM) and in the future I want to try uni (the foie gras of the sea). I love octopus in all ways, especially sashimi, and I would say my fave cuisine right now is Greek.

My husband and I don't have a ton of money, but we usually go out to eat at a really nice place for our anniversary and just explore food.

Btw, if anyone lives in Philadelphia I highly recommend the Farmer's Cabinet. Morimoto's was okay, but wasn't worth paying $250 for a meal.

My dream: to sample the bits from a roasted pig's face. (Saw it on tv and it looks delish.)

Hi, I'm lauren, or lulu. I'm a high school English teacher who lives in Africa. I used to be a pretty serious cook/baker of the "there can never be too much butter or cheese" school of cooking, but am trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and cook things that are healthier for me. I love to bake for people, and have had the opportunity to take cooking lessons in both Thailand and India, so those are my go-to cuisines for impressive cooking.

Hi, my name is Marc, and I also love to cook. My passion for cooking was revived by SparkPeople and the Food Network, after years of depending on the microwave for everything. I've invested in a lot of cooking equipment and am now equipped like a chef even in my dinky little kitchen. And I'm anxious to try out the recipes in the Spark People cookbook.

Don't give up!

Hello! I joined Sparkpeople last month and I feel that this will be a great experience. I have a small amount of weight to loose to be at my goal.I am stuggling with be stuck. My weight loss has been slow and it is frustrating. I and my husband are foodies and that doesn't always fit into a diet. I am looking forward to see how others make it work!

Hi I'm Melissa. I signed up on this site last year and didn't really use it. But recently at work we have began to get things ready for a Biggest Loser contest and we needed to have a place were we could all get together online. So our HR told me about this and it all started then and there. We have been going crazy getting all of this together and we are all so excited about it. We are going to have our first weigh in on the 6th of February and I can't wait for it all to come together!!

As I'm trying to reinvigorate my weight-loss and healthy-living goals, I thought I'd try using Spark to keep me motivated. I love cooking, but I don't do it enough. Hoping to get some great ideas and motivation from this team :)

Hi, My name is Janet and I love to cook, bake and watch the Food Network and other cooking shows. The first one I remember is the Galloping Gourmet back in the 60's /70's. I have always thought that it was my mom and my Nana's influance on me (being 1/2 Italian) emoticon .But I love it. So here I am and I hope to add to your discussions.

Hi All ...
Although I've always loved the eating experience, good food, and I could chop veggies all day, I used lots of butter and sugar in my cooking. I use to bake a loaf of bread every other day. Egads, is no wonder I had 50lbs to loose. (Almost 25 gone!) I'm now learning to cook with more health in mind and with less calories on the stovetop and in the oven.

Thanks for being there.

Hi everyone! I am her because I emoticon good food (maybe a little too much!). I even read cookbooks for fun! I recently bought the Weight Watchers Fruits and Veggies A to Z and am loving it! Its not the fatty, delicious food that I love, but it is helping me stay creative while sticking to my goal!!

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

Hello all. I love cooking & trying new things with cooking. Unfortunantly, most of the things I know how to cook are not the healthiest for you. So I'm trying to focus on making some of our favs healthier.

I love cooking, and eating as well.I have worked in Italian restaurant and now I am exploring other cuisines as well.
If I can get my portions under control, then would not have to spent so much time at gym:)

I grow a lot of our veggies and herbs in our garden and also buy lot of it on farmers market.

In dreams and in life, nothing is impossible.

I love food. I grew up in the f&b industry and have always adored food - that just put me over the edge! I'm focusing on simple foods now with fresh ingredients - but my goal is to make food taste better than eating out (where I live it's not hard to do!). My kids are adventurous gourmands trying everything and anything. For them nothing is as soothing as a meal out somewhere new, I'd like to have that experience at home. :D

Hello everyone, I love food. It makes my heart soar and soul smile. Since I've been out of work I've been using cooking to keep my mind off the things I can't control. I've made my own pasta and caramel for the first time. I also have stuck to my classics like a deliciously seasoned moist chicken breast. I love trying new recipes and I love changing them to suit my own needs.

I have a couple of "big" problems when it comes to trying to lose weight. 1) my portion size. I started using a smaller plate to help control the size of things. 2) My husband. It's not that he doesn't want to loose weight, he does. It's that he doesn't like the texture of chicken, or pork, or beef that tastes like beef, or potatoes, or zucchini, or carrots or peas, or a million other things. Whelp, I guess he'll have to start putting up with it, won't he? emoticon

I look forward to being involved with everyone because I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to cook for him and the diet at the same time, and I'm sure y'all will have some great ideas.

I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE! My boyfriend and I love food-He thought he was foodie until he met me. He turned from a slightly picky eater to looking at food for the journey it can be. I'm not trying to brag or toot my own horn, but my dad was a chef, so ever since I was a young child I was eating most things kids would freak about about-whole artichokes, calamari, anchovies etc. When I first told my boyfriend our eating habits need to change, he turned his nose up. I made him a healthy dish (can't remember it was a WHILE ago) and I told him how many calories it was and that it wasn't even beef. He said "if you wouldn't have told me I would of never guess" Eating healthier doesn't have to be bland and boring. NOW like you said IT IS a challenge, but all in moderation and control. I'm really excited to be apart of this team, I am always looking for new fresh recipes and tips!

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.

Hello all Foodies, I am a Family and Consumer Science teacher whose favorite class to teach is Culinary Arts to high school students. While my children were growing up I spent my time between work and the children and spent very little time on myself. The kids moved out, I got my Masters Degree in Leadership, earn my administration certification and now I really need to spend some time on me getting healthier. I am 5'2'' and have 170 pounds to lose which really overwhelms me when I think that is another overweight person that I am carrying around every day. I join Sparks earlier in the week with the thought that I wasn't going to make any changes just log the food in and see where I am and then next week start making changes. But already I am adjusting what I have for dinner or snack based on how I have done during the day. So I am hopeful this program will work for me. One question, does anyone know how I can put a personal recipe into the recipe box so that I can use it? Since I really enjoy cooking.

Hi all! Been here about a week. I've lost 80 lbs over the last year and am work on the next pile of them. Among my arsenal of tricks has been playing with flavors and getting down to "real food" vs processed. So far my favorite dessert, when I have it, is blackberries and dark chocolate. really decadent.

Enjoy and good luck on your journey

Lil

Hi, I'm new to SparkPeople as of yesterday. Hoping to lose about 15 lb before a ball I have to attend at the end of September, then another 10-15 after that.

I really like to cook and love to eat (durh), and am trying to do both these things now with a healthy spin. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say on the topic. I have a lot to learn.

Hello there...I got a call yesterday from the doctor stating that I needed to lower my cholesterol and loose weight. So, I have three months to get the numbers down or they will put me on medicine. I am not new to sparkpeople I just have a hard time with following through. I love to cook, I love to eat, I love to do both with others.. as good food, and good friends.. makes me very happy. So, now I am on a journey to cook more healthy and yes... losing the weight would be wonderful too. It seems difficult at times as I have two young boys and a bf who is not very supportive in the eating right department. So, hopefully this 37 year old can get the motivation and support she needs this time to do it right and keep it off..!!

Hi there! I'm joining this team because like you, I love food. I especially enjoy cooking. I really like healthy food that is prepared well... so hopefully I will get some fresh ideas from you all, and be able to offer some in return! I'm definitely not a professional though, cooking is just a passion of mine. Hopefully that's ok! Good luck, everyone!

Hi! I'm new to this whole website and the whole dieting thing in general. I'm a wife, mom, and a foodie! I have two kids, ages 5 and 1 1/2. After my last one I had to go on an anti-depressant and that has contributed to my weight gain. I've never really had issues with my weight until recently and it's very depressing. It's also very depressing because I LOVE good food! I am not one to brag about my cooking, however I have always had a natural ability to make good food. If I'm going to put in the effort to cook for me and my family then I'm going to make sure it tastes amazing! I'm obsessed with any kind of cooking shows that involve competition. Currently my favorite is Masterchef Australia, which i watch on Youtube. It's way better than the American version, at least I think so. Anyway, that's a little bit about me.

Hi everyone! I am a natural born foodie. Raised in the late 60's and 70's by a "granola" mom, she introduced a variety of produce, some from our garden and homemade pastas. I am from a large family and sometimes we were poor but dad worked in gourmet markets as a butcher and so we enjoyed very good meat when we had it. I've also worked in fine dining for many years, including a high end spanish/euro restaraunt (love paella!)
So now I am 46 and after a traumatic couple of years, I have gained 30 pounds in the last 6 months. While I am still a foodie and concentrate on creating wonderful meals, my biggest downfall? My newly found addiction to icecream late at night. I never had sweets in my home on a regular basis, now? I have ice cream in my freezer or I feel like I can't go to bed!
I have a huge fear that I am going to keep getting bigger and bigger and also that because of my age, losing the weight will be impossible.
I am going to pray about my addiction and really give sp a chance.

Hello, my name is Liana, and I too am a foodie. I have been a full fledged foodie for about 10 years, but had almost as much training before that. Prior to starting a path to become an engineer, I worked in the restaurant industry in a few small, privately owned restaurants. I've done everything there is to do in a restaurant, including being a pastry chef, and cooking food at an Italian fine dinging and Thai restaurant. As fun as it was to experiment with food and prefect my recipes on someone else's dime, it is much less stressful to cook for friends and family. At my years at the restaurants I learned how to cook good food, now I am learning to make healthy food taste equally amazing. I love food, it is one of my great joys in life.

Hi everyone! My name is Hillery, and I am a foodie. I am not a full blown food snob yet, but I'm working on it. I love junk food as much as I love good food. I love watching food TV and looking at recipes, and cooking. I don't cook anything extravagant, but I love feeding people yummy food! I made cupcakes for a girls' night, and I should have sent them home with my friends, because my husband and I devoured them all! Not good! Having junk food and sweets in the house is a terrible temptation for me, so I try to not have it around because I won't go out of my way to get it.

I am not new to SP, but I'm back to lose this icky fat, and to tone up, and look like the girl who can eat anything she wants, without gaining an ounce! I need to start eating better food, especially when my husband and I go out, but there are a lack of non-chain restaurants in Fargo, ND. We are like chain central! Crappy! OK for tracking, but not so fun for adventure!

Anyway... Hi!

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!
I love to cook! (and eat, hence I am overweight). I also like to grow vegetables and herbs in my garden. I used to not believe it when people said fresh tastes so much better, but it does! I was so happy to find this team as I am sure there will be lots of things I can learn on this group!

Hi,

I joined SP on April 1 and got myself back to my goal weight. Now facing the hard part--staying there. We love good food. Love to eat. Love to cook. Love to go to special wine & food events. You get the picture.

I work pretty hard to convert recipes over to more healthy versions but I refuse to give up good taste. Always looking for good ideas.

Hi there. I've become a bit of a foodie because I've had to travel quite a bit for my job and I've had some fabulous food all over the world. I also live in Houston where there are a ton of phenomenal restaurants. I'm accustomed to eating out most of the time, and now I'm trying to eat at home more to reach my weight loss goals. I thought it would be fun to see what others were eating.

Hi! I just got the dreaded (but not altogether surprising) news that I'm "Borderline 2" - and that I MUST lose weight - NOW! I love to cook - and eat GOOD food - and unfortunately, don't have many really health conscious recipes in my repertoire. I am determined to severely limit white carbs - and replace them with whole grains which I love, being more aware of the fats in my diet, and well - you all know the drill! I look forward to meeting and friending other foodies and exchanging delicious and healthy recipe ideas.
