I use mine about once or twice a week. Soups, spaghetti sauce, chix and dumplings, spicy chicken for taco's is what you'll usually find in my crockpot.

On average, once a week. I work days, my DH works nights, and we usually don't see each other from Sun PM until Thurs PM. I'm also a midwife, and I'm on call crazy hours. It's nice to throw some stuff in the crock pot, and know when I eventually get home it'll be done! Keeps me from eating PB&J every night emoticon

Summertime - usually a couple times per month, in the winter, though, usually at least once a week.

I go through phases of using it 4 or so times a week to using it once a month only - depends on what I am in the mood for food wise really. I seem to use it more in the winter than the summer though.

I use mine at least once a week - it's so awsome to come home from work and have something healthy and smelling good going. My grandkids always tell me my house smells like "home" to them because there is always something cooking. I have a breadmaker, too. Long as I am careful about how much bread I eat, I'm fine.

I have only used mine a few times this summer, but during fall/winter I like to use it more. I am looking for some new recipes to try. My faves are: beef roast, pork roast, chicken noodle soup, chili...and I am sure there are more...but that is what we make most!

During the summer, I don't use mine much at all. But the rest of the year, I use it at least 2-4 times a week. Just not in the mood for hot foods when it's hot outside. But with school and work and everything else, the CP is a godsend.

Only action it sees in the summer is the making of homemade stocks. Better in there than simmering on the stove when it's 90+ outside.

I do have a large cp (6qts). 3 cups of dried beans soaked for 8 hours. Rinse and boil for 10 minutes then transfer to CP with the boiling water and cook on low overnight. I have never had trouble with beans jumping out. This method has been successful with pintos, broad beans, garbenzos, cannelini and red and white kidney beans. I have also done Boston baked beans in the CP where the beans are cooked in the sauce.

Just do the next right Thing.

Twice or three times a week. Since I'm working long days, it's easy for my husband to toss stuff in the crockpot and have dinner ready when I get home. We have lots of chicken, bbq pork, sloppy joes and beef stew

Hey Robyn, can I have a question? How do you cook the beans? My cookbook says that they need a large pot? (Mine is 4 quart). Are the beans going to "jump" out? Is there some trick?
Thanks

I don't use mine as often as I should... usually when I make BBQ, I love a roast in the CP but hubby prefers it grilled, and I do chili, bean soup, and stew in it in the winter months... I also use it to make a big batch of spaghetti sauce or sloppy joe mix to freeze in individual meal portions for DD and I while hubby is deployed...

I use mine at least 2-3 times per week year round ! I have two crock-pots and have been known to use both at the same time (meat in one and potatoes in another.) They are by far my favorite appliance !
I have managed to cook almost all our family favorites in the crock-pot. (meat loaf, breaded pork chops, cube steak, beef stew, scallop potatoes and ham, chicken . . .) I even make the "guts" for my chicken pot pie in the crock-pot and then just transfer them over to the pie shell and finish up in the oven.

I use my cp 2-3 most weeks.

It is good for cooking beans before using them. Also great for chilli, soup and rice pudding.

I use my crockpot about once a month... I'd like to get into using it more... I'm sure during the winter I'll use it more to make yummy stews. I'm usually cooking for 2 or 4 people, and I love having leftovers for lunch the next day, so there's one less meal to plan out!

I use my Crockpot at least once a week. I like trying new recipes in it. Have really no favs. Kitt, your receipes sound good, I'll have to try that out. Never did like the way my rice turns out, so I'll have to try that receipe for brown rice.

In the summer I use it only once a week, sometimes just to keep left overs warm, and people are eating at different times.
I mostly use it for Dinner, its so easy to toss everythin in and then go about my day.
In the winter months when we eat more stew, soup and things like that I use it at least 2-3 a week. I feed 3 of use and so sometimes there is left overs for my lunch the next day.

There are so many great recipes to use so goos luck,

I'll have to try making my rice in there, I do have a rice cooker that I like too.

One of my favorite things is to just slice potatoes very thin and onions, layer them in the crock pot and add a can of healthy request celery soup with about 1/2 can of water or more if you like it thinner. add salt and pepper if you use it, maybe a bit of garlic let it cook on low for 6-8 hours and they are the best creamiest potatoes ever.
I some times add ham or left over meat at the last hour and make it a full meal.
My sister adds peas or broccoli the last hour too.
I think the fun of the crockpot is you can do so many things to make it different with very litte effort.

Good luck, there are a lot of good recipes here on sparkpeople to try too.

Hi Leslie,
I've found on the internet this recipe:
2 cups brown rice
5 cups water
salt to taste
Cook on high for 3 hours.
Works for me:-)

I don't use mine much in the summer, although I should since it doesn't heat up the whole kitchen! Starting around September, I use it about 2-4 times a month, and I also live alone, so a meal can last me a few days!
How do you do your rice? I never thought of that, but, I agree, brown rice can be hard to get just right.

I cook majority of my foods in crock pot, because it is soo easy. I live alone though, so I cook only maybe 1x week (and eat it 5 days). I also cook all my rice in CP, I think it really helps with brown rice, which is otherwise somewhat difficult to cook. I was thinking few times about making breakfasts, but always gave up.
Recently I became vegetarian so I am trying to find as many veg'n recipes for CP as possible.

Pardon me if this is so elementary, and if this was asked before.

I'm curious as to the average use of our crock-pots?? It's been a few months for me, but I was averaging at least twice a week.I'm now looking into getting back to my "normal" at least if not more.

How often are you all using your crock-pots? What meals do you use them the most?
