Thanks for the info! I never put frozen meat even in the oven. My sister is a nurse and she FREAKS if i even let meat thaw out on the counter. She has me well trained.I take out meat the morning before and let it defrost in the fridge.I always taught she was over reacting. Now i guess i owe her an apoligy. Just what she needs...to be right about something els!!LOL! thanks again.

I can not tell a lie.. I too put frozen meat in the crockpot or partially frozen meat.

I still felt I needed to put that disclaimer in as it is an FDA required statement in the crockpot paperwork.

**disclaimer**

It is not recommended to put frozen meat into the CP for 2 reasons.

1. The meat may not reach a high enough temp to kill bacteria that may be lurking, and you run the risk of food poisoning.

2. It can crack the crock pot.

This message is posted so that I don't get sued if anyone does experience food poisoning from doing this method. Cook at your own risk.

Hi, I have found that I never just cook meat/chicken plain. I always use 1 cup wine or sherry in most of my recipes (alcohol cooks out)..this gives it such a good taste and I almost always use cream of something soup or broth. This just gives "pizazz" to the dish. I also put my meat in frozen and then leave on low, this way does not dry out. Yesterday I put olive oil on my frozen chicken breast and then put a packet of dried Italian dressing (Zesty Good Seasons) and then added my usual stuff(garlic, onion soup, wine) and right before (1 hour) I added a bar of cream cheese and stirred and a jar of mushrooms, served over egg noodles. I combined some recipes I had and it was incredible......anyway do try to do your meat frozen and add spice......

Marinating helps. and I have found the same thing, a bland taste. So I season last but I do put in the garlic and everything except salt. Pot roasts are better in the crock pot and soups are good, recipezaar.com has some wonderful crock pot recipes and I think I looked up the How to use the crock pot the best way... all kinds of tricks concerning how much liquid and where to place the meat and veggies. Experiment.... chillie works great and tomato sauce.
go for it , beth

are you not cooking from a recipe? if you spend some time browsing through the team boards, you should find lots of great tried and true recipes. maybe you can post an example of what you did that did not turn out well.

If you are using meats, marinading them before cooking helps, too. They will aready have some of the flavours inside when they start cooking.

I guess you can marinade veggies too...I've never tried!

Hi Beth,
Try adding your spices just before serving instead of at the beginning of cooking.
I too have that problem, but doing the above seems to help.

When I use my slow cooker or the crock pot the food taste blan. Am I doing something wrong or is it just getting use to the taste. Of course the texture is not the same as when you use the oven. I would love to use the crock pot more but I want us to eat what I fix. Any suggestions? Thanks Beth
