I used to live in a twon that had a very small center (no real library but very helpful staff with the information they did have). I loved trying to get time to get there and research things but I now live in an area that does not allow me the opportunity that much. Hopefully in time.

Good luck to all in their goals.

Been there, done that, worked there!! Actually, I worked at the one in Hacienda Heights CA but have lived in Utah for 13 years so I've been able to make several trips to the FH Library in Salt Lake. We do have one here in Brigham City that I go to quite often.
If anyone is having trouble finding a center, just go to familysearch.org and you can do a search for the center nearest you.

They certainly do keep adding and updating. I'm due to go again myself.

We've got a FHC near us, but I haven't been there in quite a few years. Guess I should go check it out and see what they have (again).

I use the FHC here in SLC, Utah. I try to make it there at least once a week. I am still waiting for them to get every thing on the computer so I won't have to make the trip down town. Slowly but surely it is on their website. I can spend hours on my computer working but yes going to the library you can find more at this time.

Yes, quite a few years ago. I had in my possession a deed to a cemetery plot in Philadelphia (my great-great-greatgrandmother was buried there)and I wanted to find out more about the cemetery. I found out at the LDS center that this particular cemetery had been relocated!
Actually the next meeting (this coming Tuesday) at our local historical society will have the Director of the local Family History Center as guest speaker. emoticon

Hi,I have been to a LDS Family History Library and Center(small as it was),at my previous LDS Madison,Wi,
First Ward.It was at that time, that with assistance,I was able to prepare the floppy disks for doing the Ordinances in the LDS Chicago Temple for my older Son,and my Biological Mother. What a Blessing this was,not only to be able to prepare the discs, but to participate at the Temple to do the Baptism and Confirmation for my Son,but to have a Ward Sister do
the ordinances for my Biological Mother.
Now that my Wife and I are living in Germany-it is more difficult, because the Ward Family History Center, where we attend Church(in Darmstadt)is set up
primarily for the German-speaking people in the German Ward.Of course, peoples of different backgrounds, and speaking different languages can use this facility, but it is not as easy as it was in the U.S.There is a Family History Center at the Frankfurt
International Ward-but that is only open mostly in the evening hours, and is farther away from where we live.
As it is now, though one can prepare the information ,to be used for doing the Ordinances by easier means, such as using a CD or adapter(forget what is is
called) to transfer the information from your own computer to the CD or ?-and take it to the Temple, and they will transfer your information to their facilities there,so the Ordinances can be done.

Have Faith in Christ!All Truth
comes from Him.

Happiness comes from and
through Christ-as provided

Very True NITEMAN, and I get my yearly free copy of Family Tree Maker religiously lol Only because I get my wallet sucked dry at every annual renewal for Ancestry and Genealogy.com's. I don't know what the heck is going on with GenCircles lately, but it seems like a ghostship!

We have one nearby that is very helpful and they also participate in our local genealogy fests that last for three days every three years and is one of the most wonderful resources you can imagine. Various historic societies and church genealogy groups set up three days of displays, lectures and seminars which are free and more than a little interesting to novice and expert alike. It wouldn't happen without the help of the LDS, or at least not on it's present scale. Their software is also great (and free) as well. If you're not Mormon, you can turn of the Church features and it's a very thorough and complete genealogy program.

That's cool for those of you that have gone and had a good experience. I would really like to "go with a friend" my first time lol (feel like an insecure teenager again) I am just going to have to kick myself in the rear and DO IT!

I've been to a local one where I live, and the folks there are always so helpful.

Someday, I hope to make a pilgrimage to the one in Salt Lake City, but I want to get super prepared before I do! :)

I used to live in Utah and the one in Salt Lake is overwhelming. Almost to much information to know where to start. But the people that work there are really nice and really want to be helpful. I assume the smaller ones would be the same although I have never been to one other than to buy forms I couldn't find anywhere else (15 generation pedigree charts). Give it a try though. Never know. I haven't found one near me here in Tennessee
