Good morning all.

MYODIE - according to my father, our relation met the boat when it arrived on these shores. The one thing he failed to state was what relations were meeting and which shore the boat landed on.

My in-laws are more apt to be Cherokee but no one can remember the names. Probably would not do any good anyway.

Now go and enjoy your day.

I do have the Cherokee Roots roll books. If you have a name that you think might be Cherokee, I can look it up, but please give me dates, birth & death) and if you can, a few names in the family.

Good morning all. If any one ever travels to Mt. Rushmore, there is there a Lakota museum near there where they are sculpting Chief Crazy Horse out of the mountain. The Lakota have some planes for the area and the tourist will help pay for it. Now go and enjoy your day. Larry

If you are ever going to Glacier make plans to stop at the Museum of the Plains Indians in Browning. Its collection was fantastic.

Found the information I was talking about in Columbus, OH, about the Indian research. Check out these links for more information.

Here is the information that was posted in 2005: They used to be on S High St but apparently moved around the corner ~ believe the old building caught on fire a few years ago if I remember right.

Below is a link on the Ohio history site and there is a long list of Indian names on one side that might help some of you in some way.

And you can never beat Wikipedia :) There are lots of links at the bottom of the page where you can read and research. Good luck

Good morning all. Somewhere along the line in my wife ancestry there is native american blood. It is not BlackFoot more likly it is Creek or Cherokee but have not been able to confirm it yet. My son would like to be able to confirm it though. There are benefits that Oklahoma gives if you can prove native american ancestry. At any rate, go and enjoy yur day. Larry

www.rootsweb.com

This link is free, unlike ancestry.com, and alot of the information here is the same as what ancestry has.

Enter a name in the Roots Web side and click on Enter and when it brings up the next page, click on WorldConnect.

When the next page comes up, go to the bottom of the page and narrow your search but only by entering a year of birth with the option of 5 years either way or by listing the name of the spouse. Too much information and it's harder to find someone.

You can also go to the message boards and read queries from others and if you sign up, you can post and answer queries.

Also, check with your genealogical society and historical society for guidance on researching Indian lines. I'm originally from Columbus, OH and there was a group there (don't remember the tribe name) that helped others with their research so you might find societies where you live that can help guide you in some way and put you in touch with others.

Good luck

I do know that near East Glacier, Montana, home of Glacier National Park, there are lots of Blackfoot Indians. The reservation is quite near there -- and so if you check Montana history you likely will find more details. Many Indians have worked at the park.

Most of the info and links I have is for the Odawa/Ottawa tribes or Ojibwe tribe. But here is a link I have and maybe you can find something on. There are alot of native sites but pinpointing a certain tribe and then the band within the tribe can be hard if you're starting from scratch. Here's the link

www.accessgenealogy.com/native/

You can also post a message on some of the genealogy message boards to see if you get any response. That helps sometimes too. Oh and also Yahoo Groups. See if they have a Blackfood one. I belong to several Nishnawbe groups.

Good luck!

Do you have any access to Ancestry.com. They have Indian histories and things. Also do you know where they come from. I would also go to google and type in Blackfoot Indians and see what you come up with. Indian research is so hard to do normally.

I discovered last year that I am part Blackfoot Indian. I've been trying to research more about the tribe, but haven't gotten very far. (There's only a few thousand full-blooded Blackfoot Indians alive today.) I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is also BF and can tell me a bit more about it.
